UNKNOWN POV
Running from the SWAT team and police force. It was just my luck.
I look to my sides, looking at the bystanders who are screaming at my presence passing them, glaring at me in fear, but I couldn't care for their stares right now.
My chest heaved as the slit on my hip poured with blood, soaking my clothes but it wasn't important right now.
I ran to the bottom of a skyscraper, smashing a window to get inside quickly and sped to the top, leaping from staircase to staircase, all the way to the roof. When I'm finally alone, I sat on the edge of the building, swinging my legs off to the side, and watching the mayhem I had caused below unravel.
My breaths were slow and when I was finally fit to move again, I stood; but there was the deafening sound of a gun being cocked behind me. My teeth grind against each other, and I tensed my body to keep as still as possible
"D-don't move," the police officer said behind me.
Her voice was weak, coated in fear. She knew what I could do and what I had done.
I cackled loudly as I turned to face her, making our eyes connect and shivers crawl through her body as I stare longer, the coldness in my eyes staring her over. It was unnerving for me as we continued our contact until my lips finally tilted upward.
"Not a chance" I laughed as I swung my body back and fell off the building. The officer now stood in my old position, gaping down at me as gravity pushed me downward. The air was good and cold at this time of night and the harsh sounds filled my ears. I let a deep breath out before finally releasing my full self to let everyone experience it.
I spread my wings and propelled myself from the fast-approaching ground, the wind catching me and swinging me back into the sky. It was the best feeling ever. I glided through the vast wind, fleeing from the scene of chaos I had created behind me. My wings slid through the thick wind, and I went past the crowds in a flash. At any moment I could've escaped.
But as I was, there was an agonizing pain in my left wing, but it couldn't be more than the size of a dot. It weighed me down as my body became heavy. Something had been injected into me and made me lose focus. Daring to look at my side, there was a green dart in the sea of my dark feathers and whilst trying to get it off of me. My mind became adrift as my eyelids began to get heavier and my body started to decline towards the hard ground
Landing on my head, my vision immediately blurred, and I felt my consciousness slipping away from me. I still tried to get up, pushing myself off the ground with one arm- the one that hadn't already lost its feeling. But it was all useless as the SWAT team started to close in on me in a circle, their shields guarding their bodies so it was no use to even try to escape.
I hissed at the pain as another pain shot through my body, and this time, it was no use avoiding the fast-approaching darkness.
Y/N'S POV
I bolted down the old apartment stairs as fast as I could, not caring that I nearly lost my balance and nearly tripped down them multiple times.
Running out of the crumbling complex that I called my home, I ran down the busy streets. It was filled with a litter of people running to get to their workplace, much like I am. It was a struggle at first to push and shove through others but as the rush thins out, I got there in no time.
My building comes into view after 5 minutes. My work was on the outskirts of the city, mostly for the safety of others. It's a tall brick building and takes up nearly a whole block. And arriving at the front, I see my best friend running towards me, with excitement dancing in her eyes.
I raise my hand to wave at her. "Hey Lisa," I said as she charged toward me and gave me a tight hug, squeezing the air out of me.
"Y/n! Guess what!" she yelled into my ear making me wince. She finally calmed down, "Sorry," she giggled, and I just shook my head with a smile.
"What is it, Lisa?" I questioned.
"Well," she said, and turned to look into our building, quietening her voice. "During the night, a criminal was shot down and brought to be held here. And that criminal is Jeon Jungkook," she said with a serious tone. What she said sent shivers down my spine. The Jeon Jungkook.
It was to be expected that he would come here because of the high-security system in place, but the nerves in my body didn't even begin to calm at the thought of a criminal such as him being placed at my work.
Lisa shrugged her shoulders casually, "I guess it is pretty secure here, now let's go to work! I have a client!" She pushed me by the shoulders into the building and we started to walk into the psychologist block, where our desks were stationed.
It was a bland place but half of the time, we wouldn't be there and be busy in another room with patients.
Being criminal psychologists, our work is to talk to criminals and understand their minds. See what the root of their troubled path was and work off of that. I usually see each prisoner assigned to me, 1-3 times a week and I would talk to them about their motives, and try to get them to come and understand the negative things they did. I love my job; I love helping people and I've never done any of it for the money.
As Lisa and I were about to part with each other, there was a commotion from the prison block, where the criminals were usually held. I usually tried to stay away from there, but something pushed me to go. My curiosity got the best of me.
Leaving Lisa behind, I briskly walked to the cells but when I saw where the sound was coming from, I retreated when I saw the block it was coming from. Solitary Confinement.
Only the worst criminals that were sent to stay there, their crimes would have to be intense. I stared at the door that was the entrance to the cells, the small window with bars allowing me to see inside only a little as screams and threats rang in my ear. My body was frozen as I continued to stare but it worsened as a body flashes past the window. There were black feathers that brushed the bars, and they were streaked with blood.
After that, I forced myself to look away, not being able to stare any longer at the gruesome scene.
My body shivered as I turned to walk back to my desk and thoughts danced around my head, only one staying permanently.
He's probably extremely misunderstood...
-
I was sitting at my desk and studying my clients' papers until I got a call on my work phone and picked it up.
"Hello, this is Dr Lee speaking, how can I help you?" I answered without even looking at the caller ID, too engrossed in my work.
"Hi Dr Lee, it's me," said Mrs Min, my boss "I was just wondering if you are free to come by my office for a small meeting discussing some business" It was a short call as she hung up straight after, probably knowing my answer was a yes; but I was stunned and held the phone for a few seconds longer.
Mrs Min was never the type of person to make sudden appointments and would plan them at least the day before so I knew I had to go if it was unorganized.
As I gathered up my papers, I paced to her office across the hallway and knocked before entering. She was sitting at her desk, her red hair dropped over her shoulder in a neat braid. I seated myself in one of the two seats in front of her desk and waited for the meeting to start.
"Okay. So, Dr Lee, I have a very important job to ask. You don't have to do it if you don't want to, but it would mean the world to me" she started with a sincere smile. My face twisted into suspicion since she was never one to be overly nice. What did she want from me?
Mrs Min let out a deep sigh before making her request.
"Y/n. Will you be the psychologist-" she paused in hesitation "for Jeon Jungkook?" she asked, her happy tone dropping into a serious one.
I froze in my position. Jeon Jungkook.
The famous criminal, a supernatural experiment gone wrong, and America's most dangerous gang leader.
But why me? I had only been here for 3 years and that's hardly any experience compared to other people that work here. And as if reading my mind, my boss answers my lingering question.
"I think you are one of the most sensible and successful people here, experience or not, Y/n. I have seen you get through to many criminals here and turn them onto the good side," she said, making me smile in and out.
"So, what do you say? Are you up for the job? I'll even pay you-"
I hold up my hand to her. "That won't be necessary, You know I don't do this for the money, the money is simply a small bonus for helping others," I explained, making her sigh. Mrs Min was a very wealthy woman and I know that she valued her money, so she couldn't understand why I did it for the good of all.
And before she could retaliate, I said goodbye and with that, I left with the files on Jeon.
-
Getting back to my desk, I flicked through the file and read up on his information and past. There weren't any known relatives of his and he surfaced at the age of 17, now 21.
He, allegedly, had escaped an illegal lab that had been holding him captive and doing tests on the poor boy since he was a baby.
I let out a long sigh and slouched in my chair. I felt a figure shadowing over and behind me, but I wasn't fazed until I heard a deep voice making me jump.
"Jeon Jungkook?!" the deep voice boomed, and I knew who it was in an instant.
"Jimin!" I laughed nervously, straightening my posture, and trying to hide the paper from him.
Jimin was one of the guards that moved criminals to and from their psychology sessions and guarded some cell blocks. I had gotten to know him since I usually ask him for the keys to some of my clients' chains. It was a little something I did to earn their trust, and it had worked many times, but it did come across as strange with Taehyung.
I turned around to face Jimin and saw his face covered in shock, making me laugh nervously. He raised an eyebrow waiting for me to explain.
"It's really fine, Jimin. I accepted the job; Mrs. Min gave me the choice," but that only made him frown more.
"Exactly. You don't need to do this Y/n," he scoffs and crosses his arms making him more intimidating. "Jungkook is a stone-hearted murderer that kills without a second thought and for all we know, he could do the same to you. The whole of the Korea has been preparing for the day we caught him. The government even made special cuffs that chained Jungkook's wings together so that he can't fly. He's a real threat." he warned, and I could feel my consciousness spike.
"Jim, it's fine, you know I just want to help him" I breathed out, trying to reassure him but still looked unsure and agitated. I smiled and waved him off as he stormed away.
I turned and picked up my file again, only to feel another presence behind me, but I knew who it was once her hand was placed on my shoulder.
"What do you want, Lisa?" I sighed with a grin, placing my file down, which unfortunately made her eyes follow.
"So, you accepted Jeon as a patient?" she uttered, raising one eyebrow.
"Yes.. and?" I question wearily, raising my eyebrow back at her.
Lisa just stood up and searched my eyes for any fear or regret, which I didn't have nor show. As I was about to speak she just pulled me into a tight embrace.
"Just stay safe with him" she whispered. I know she just wanted to keep me safe. I nod.
I embraced her hug and patted her on the back before releasing myself. "I've got to go, I have an appointment with Yeonjun" I said before moving away from her and running to my designated room with a notebook and pen.
I sat at the table of two chairs and waited for Yeonjun. I heard a beep echo around the room and the door opened and I saw Yeonjun's happy face, making me smile. As Jimin walked in with Yeonjun in front of him, he undid the handcuffs and walked out leaving me and the man alone. His shoulders were relaxed and had a ghostly smile.
"So, this is a happy day I see?" I said with a grin and Yeonjun nodded.
Yeonjun was a child with trauma. He had abusive parents causing him to follow their path and gain anger issues. It means that he's prone to having random outbursts of anger, which have thankfully decreased lately.
But his anger issues are what lead him here. He had had a fight with a policeman and after that, when he and his car were searched, they found illegal drugs in his car, earning him 2 year's sentence.
Looking over my paper, I scanned my sheet before placing it down and turning to him. "Okay, so yesterday you had an outburst, correct?" I questioned trying not to go into depth with it. Yeonjun nodded slowly, looking anxious.
"That's fine," I reassured. "So I brought some paper and I've drawn two columns. One labeled likes and the other, dislikes. You'll give me some things in each column and then we can work on them. Want to fill it out for me?" I ask, handing him the sheet of paper to him. After a while, he seemed to be struggling so I stopped it there.
"So, here's why we got it!" I read out loud "So you like, silence, daydreaming, calming sounds. And for bad, yelling, uncontrolled anger, loud noises, blood." Yeonjun nodded; he didn't talk much.
"Okay, so today we are going to try and focus on the happy things and how we can expand on that. Okay?" I smiled at him, and a little grin played on his lips, which just widened mine.
As we were finishing up the list, the room's alarm beeped, signaling that the session was over. Jimin came in and handcuffed Yeonjun . We said our goodbyes and he closed the door behind him. Leaving me alone once again. But then I was soon greeted by another patient.
-
For the rest of the day, I was talking with others and tried to help them improve. But all that day, I couldn't wait to go home because I needed to do research.
So, when I got home I typed up the name that was playing on everyone's lips.
'Jeon Jungkook'
