Chapter - 27
"Jaemin-ssi? So... you are the killer?" Y/N asked, her voice trembling in disbelief as she struggled to come to terms with the shocking truth.
"Yes, it was me, Y/N-ssi," he replied with a calm smile, his eyes holding a glint of mischief that sent shivers down her spine.
"I have to admit, you are much cleverer than those investigation officers. Sadly, you never doubted me... even after seeing me at the library," he said, his words echoing in Y/N's mind as a flood of memories rushed back to her. She remembered the times she had crossed paths with Jaemin, the encounters that she had dismissed as mere coincidence. Now, it was clear that he had been hiding in plain sight all along.
FLASHBACK
As Y/N turned around, she came face to face with Jungkook, a puzzled expression etched on his face. His quickened breath indicated that he had hurried to reach her.
"Um... Jungkook ssi?" Y/N responded, still trying to process the encounter with Sehun and the questions lingering in her mind.
"What are you doing here?" Jungkook asked, his brows furrowing with genuine curiosity and concern.
"I..." Y/N hesitated, uncertain of how much to reveal.
"Who is there?" A voice interrupted them, drawing their attention to the side. They turned to see Jaemin, one of their classmates, looking at them with a mix of surprise and curiosity.
"Ah, you two? What are you doing here during class time?" Jaemin questioned, a slight tilt of confusion in his voice.
Y/N quickly composed herself, holding up the book in her hand. "Ah, Jaemin ssi, Mrs. Park asked me to bring this book back to the library. Do you happen to know where Jin ssi is?"
"Give it to me, I will tell him when he comes back," he spoke with a warm smile, his eyes reflecting a glimmer of excitement.
"Oh, ok. Here," she responded, handing over the book before gracefully departing from the scene, showing little interest in engaging with Jungkook.
~
"Why?" Y/N asked, her voice filled with a mix of fear and confusion.
"I wa-" Jaemin began to explain, but their conversation was abruptly interrupted by the sound of approaching footsteps.
Panic surged through Y/N's veins, and she instinctively tried to flee. However, Jaemin swiftly caught her, his hand firmly covering her mouth as he pulled her behind a nearby bookshelf, hiding them from view.
"Not that fast," he whispered, his tone ominously calm.
On the other side of the library, Taehyung and Jungkook entered, their voices echoing through the empty space.
"Y/N? Where did this girl go?" Taehyung asked anxiously.
"Call her," Jungkook suggested, and Taehyung immediately pulled out his phone, urgently dialing Y/N's number.
As Jaemin took Y/N's phone from her pocket, he realized it was on silent, rendering Taehyung's attempts to reach her futile. A sinister chuckle escaped his lips, relishing in the irony of the situation.
Panicking, Y/N attempted to make a sound, to alert Taehyung and Jungkook of her distress, but before she could utter a word, Jaemin swiftly pulled out a syringe, his actions swift and cold. With a chilling calmness, he injected her with the unknown substance, causing Y/N's vision to blur and her consciousness to fade away, succumbing to the darkness of unconsciousness.
-
Y/N's eyes fluttered open only to be met with the oppressive darkness of the room. As her vision adjusted, she realized she was bound to a chair, her hands and legs tightly secured. Panic surged through her as she struggled against her restraints.
"Oh, you woke up?" Jaemin's voice echoed in the darkness as he approached her, his presence sending a shiver down her spine.
"Why? Why did you do this? Why?" Y/N screamed, her voice filled with fear and anguish as she desperately sought answers from the person who had betrayed her trust.
"Calm down. I am going to tell you. Don't worry," Jaemin murmured, his voice oddly composed as he dragged a chair in front of Y/N and took a seat.
"You already know that Sooya is my sister. Then, of course, you should know she is dead," he stated matter-of-factly.
"She jumped fr-" Y/N began, but Jaemin interrupted her, his words chillingly correcting her assumption.
"Nah, they pushed her from the building," he clarified, his voice laced with a mixture of grief and anger.
"What?" Y/N gasped, her eyes widening in disbelief as the full weight of his revelation sank in.
FLASHBACK
Sooya stomped towards the group of boys, her eyes narrowed and her fists clenched at her sides. The boys exchanged nervous glances before quickly dispersing, leaving Jungkook standing awkwardly by himself. Sooya stopped in front of him, her chest heaving with anger.
Jungkook's smile faltered as Sooya's anger flared. He struggled to maintain a composed facade as he faced her fiery accusations.
"What do you think you were doing?" Sooya's voice rose in volume, the intensity of her anger evident in her tone.
Jungkook furrowed his eyebrows in confusion. "Doing what?" he asked, genuinely puzzled by her accusations.
Sooya's voice lowered, a dangerous edge creeping into her words. "Don't act innocent. You broke Sehun ssi's nose and he is in hospital now."
Jungkook's stance stiffened, his gaze meeting Sooya's unwaveringly. "Didn't he bully you? Of course, he deserved it," he responded, his voice tinged with defiance.
"Why do you care?" Sooya shot back, her eyes flashing with a mix of anger and confusion.
"Because you are my girlfriend," Jungkook stated firmly, a hint of uncertainty flickering in his eyes.
"Am I?" Sooya questioned, her voice laced with doubt as she searched his eyes for sincerity.
"Sooya-" Jungkook began, but was cut off by her abrupt interjection.
"Just because you claim that I am your girlfriend doesn't mean I really am," she shouted, her frustration and hurt palpable in her words.
"I already told you I love you," Jungkook pleaded, desperation creeping into his voice.
"And I already told you I don't," Sooya reminded, her expression hardening.
"Alright, you don't. But can't I protect the girl I love?" Jungkook pleaded, his voice tinged with desperation and longing.
"Look, I don't want your protection," Sooya asserted firmly, her voice resolute as she met his gaze with unwavering determination.
"But-" Jungkook began, only to be interrupted by Sooya's pointed question.
"You are only making it worse. Do I look like it's getting better?" she asked, gesturing down at her dress, which was completely soaked in water - an after effect of Jungkook's actions.
Jungkook's heart sank as he took in the sight before him, realizing the repercussions of his actions on the one he cared for.
"Sooya, I- I am really sorry. I just wanted to pro-" Jungkook began, cut off abruptly as Sooya grabbed him by his collar.
"Mind your own business," she said sharply, her tone final and unforgiving, before swiftly turning and rushing outside, leaving Jungkook standing there, his words of apology hanging in the air, unheard and unaccepted.
-
"Hey, noona," Jaemin said as he attended the call, concern evident in his voice.
"Hey," Sooya greeted, her tone wavering slightly.
"Are you alright? You sound sad," Jaemin observed, his worry deepening at her response.
"I- No, I'm not," Sooya replied, her voice breaking as tears welled up in her eyes.
"What happened?" Jaemin inquired, listening attentively as Sooya explained everything that had transpired.
"If you can't stay there, just come back, noona," Jaemin offered without hesitation, his concern for her well-being evident in his words. Sooya's heart swelled with gratitude at his support, finding solace in knowing she had someone who cared deeply for her. The weight of her distress slowly lifted as she held onto Jaemin's words, feeling reassured that she was not alone in facing the challenges before her.
""No, I can't. Eomma is sick. We need money. For that, I have to study," Sooya explained, her voice heavy with resignation and determination.
"But-" Jaemin started, his concern evident in his tone.
"It's okay, Jaemin ah. Everything's going to be fine," Sooya reassured him, her voice soft yet resolute in her decision.
"Hmm well, this Jungkook guy... do you like him?" Jaemin ventured, changing the subject gently.
"Huh? No," Sooya attempted to lie, but the truth slipped out in her hesitance.
"Noonaaa," Jaemin teased, sensing her hesitation.
"Um- I do," Sooya finally admitted, her voice barely above a whisper.
"Why don't you tell him?" Jaemin prodded gently, encouraging her to open up.
"It's dangerous for him... He is already in lot of problems because of me." Sooya's voice trailed off, her worries and fears for Jungkook tugging at her heart as she grappled with the weight of her feelings and the responsibilities resting heavily on her shoulders.
""There you are," a sudden voice interrupted, causing Sooya to tense up as she turned to see Jennie walking towards her.
Sooya held her phone tightly, her heart racing, and looked at them with a sense of apprehension.
"Were you crying? Aww, crybaby," Soobin taunted, his words cutting through the air as laughter erupted from him and his companions.
"Must be crying to her mother 'Eomma save me'," Ryujin sneered, mocking Sooya's distress with a cruel imitation, the group reveling in their hurtful remarks.
"Oh, she looks scared," Sehun remarked, a menacing glint in his eyes as he snatched Sooya's phone and flung it to the side, unaware that Jaemin was still on the call.
"Guys, let's just talk to her. Shall we?" Irene interjected, her voice calm and composed as she approached Sooya, a hint of concern flickering in her eyes.
Sooya's heart raced as she tried to maintain her composure in the face of the group's intimidating presence. Her gaze flickered between the contrasting expressions on Sehun's and Irene's faces, unsure of what their intentions were as she braced herself for what would come next.
"Sooya ssi, it's better if you don't drag that poor Jungkook into it. He is just a junior who still doesn't know anything yet. If he gets into our nerves, he will be in big trouble," Irene advised, her tone almost sympathetic as she reached out to fix Sooya's hoodie, her actions a stark contrast to the spiteful words.
Sooya's fingers curling instinctively at Irene's gesture, a mix of emotions coursing through her as she contemplated Irene's words and intentions.
"Oh? Are you getting angry?" Irene taunted, a glimmer of a challenge evident in her eyes after noticing Sooya's reaction. The air crackled with tension as Sooya struggled to mask her emotions, unsure of how to respond to Irene's provocation.
"Poor thing," Jennie chimed in, her voice laced with a mix of pity and mockery.
"Let's go," Irene declared, taking the lead, and the group began to walk away, leaving Sooya standing there, feeling a wave of exhaustion wash over her.
"No, I can't do it anymore. I am tired," Sooya's voice trembled, her words filled with a newfound firmness and resolve.
Everyone in the group abruptly stopped walking, their curiosity piqued by Sooya's unexpected statement. They turned around, their eyes fixed on her, waiting to see what she would say next.
"So? What are you going to do? Kill me?" Irene challenged, her voice dripping with sarcasm and arrogance. The tension in the air thickened as their gazes locked, a battle of wills unfolding between them.
In a sudden surge of anger and frustration, Sooya charged towards Irene, her emotions reaching a boiling point. She fiercely grabbed Irene by the neck, causing everyone around to panic and rush to separate them. But Sooya's grip remained tight, her knuckles turning white as she held on with an intense determination fueled by her pent-up emotions. Her eyes were red and teary, reflecting the pain and torment she had endured.
"Le- leave me-" Irene managed to stutter, her voice strangled by Sooya's grip, as they reached the end of the roof, teetering on the edge.
"I said- LEAVE!" Sooya yelled with all her might, her voice a mix of anguish, anger, and desperation. Summoning every ounce of strength within her, she pushed Irene with an unexpected surge of force, propelling her away from herself with a raw display of power.
From the sudden force exerted during the struggle, Sooya was propelled off the rooftop, leaving everyone in a state of shock and panic. Time seemed to slow down as they watched helplessly, their hearts pounding in their chests, unable to comprehend the gravity of the situation unfolding before their eyes.
Before they could react or rush to her aid, Sooya reached the ground, her body landing with a sickening thud. The sight caused a collective gasp to escape from those witnessing the tragic scene, as a chilling silence enveloped the area, broken only by the sounds of their pounding hearts.
"What will we do now?" Irene's voice quivered with a mix of fear and guilt as she peered down at the motionless figure lying on the ground below.
"We will find a way, come on," Sehun's voice shook with a sense of determination, though a glimmer of unease lingered in his eyes.
