Chapter Two
Jaemin stares at the wall of his room, disassociating from reality, as he heard his parents fighting again in the living room. His eyes darken as their screams fade away in his mind until he couldn't think anymore, until he couldn't hear his own thoughts anymore.
He just wants to disappear into thin air and not come back. He honestly doesn't know what to do in his life. Almost everyday his parents fight and he pretends he doesn't see or hear anything they are fighting about.
He couldn't believe they were once in love with each other, had experienced the feeling of having butterflies in their stomachs, the feeling of their hearts combusting due to the fact that they love each other. He couldn't believe they are destined for each other, yet they got to this point of situation.
It's funny how things don't work the way you expected them to work. Life really is unexpected.
He jolts back to reality when he hears a slightly loud knock on his door. He glances at it and blinks his eyes several times.
He gets off his bed and opens the door to reveal his mom. She smiles sweetly, "I thought you're going to Renjun's?"
He lightly nods, "Well, yes."
She gently kisses his forehead and smiles, "Please come back safely, okay?" He nods again.
He exits his room and his mom closes the door. They both go downstairs where they meet his dad sitting on the couch, looking at him with sharp stare.
"Where are you going?" His dad asks, sounding like he's about to scold him.
He sighs and gulps. "I'm going to Renjun's, and we're going to his friend's birthday."
Mr. Na soften his look and nods, "Okay. Be safe." he lowly says, and Jaemin relaxes a bit knowing that he didn't get scolded.
His mom walks him to the door and they stop outside. Jaemin smiles and waves at her. "See you later, Mom."
"See you, son."
He finally steps out, walking across the street to the next one until he reaches his bestfriend's house.
He knocks and he's answered by Renjun's mom who has a grin on her lips. He bows at her slightly and she lets him come inside their house.
He sits on the sofa and takes a deep sigh.
"Renjun! Jaemin's here!" Renjun's mom yells as she sits next to him.
"Tell him to wait!" His bestfriend's yell can be heard from inside the bathroom.
"He's just taking a bath, Jaemin-ah." Mrs. Huang tells him.
"Auntie, I don't understand Chinese." He says with a slight curve in his lips. She must have forgotten he's Korean.
She laughs, almost slapping Jaemin's arm but backs out when she realized. "Oh, sorry. Renjun's taking a bath." she says in broken Korean.
Jaemin nods and sits comfortably on the couch, his hands grasping together on his slightly spread legs. He's earlier than the time Renjun told him to come. He wants to be away from his house for a while.
When Renjun finishes, he gets out of the bathroom and greets him. He smiles at Jaemin and sits next to him on the couch. "You're so early." he says.
"Yeah." He looks down, frowning to himself. His heart is so heavy right now, he wants to cry.
Renjun worriedly looks at him, "Did something happen at your house?"
Jaemin sighs and looks at his bestfriend. He needs to let it out to ease his pain even slightly.
"My parents are fighting again." he begins, "I can't stand it anymore. Honestly, I don't care if they get divorce or decide to go separate ways. If that will make them stop fighting, then go ahead. It's been affecting me, I pretend like I don't hear them cursing at each other. I'd be talking with my dad like he didn't just got a fight with Mom. I just want to have a happy family... like yours." He suddenly hugs Renjun and his tears start to burst out of his eyes.
"Oh my God, Jaemin, I'm so sorry." The older hugs him and gently rubs his back. "I honestly don't know what to say to you, but always remember that I'm here for you."
He felt a comforting feeling by that. "Thank you, Renjun-ah. It's okay, though, just wanna hug you because I really need it."
They hug for few minutes before Jaemin pulls away. He wipes his tears off and smiles at Renjun slightly.
The latter smiles back at him, "Are you ready to go now?"
He nods, "Yes. I can't wait to see Jeno!" His expression suddenly changed and turns into excitement, as if he didn't just break down in front of him.
"Well, I'm not ready yet." Renjun chuckles. "Wait here, I still need to get ready. Need to be pretty for my soulmate."
He laughs, "Alright, Renjunnie!"
Renjun gets off the couch and goes upstairs to go to his bedroom.
In his peripheral view, he sees Renjun's mom looking at him. He shrinks and grins awkwardly at himself.
"Jaemin-ah," Mrs. Huang calls him.
He turns to him and gives him a slight bow, "Yes, auntie?"
"I hope everything's fine soon for you." she manages to say in a broken Korean.
He nods, smiling, "I hope so, too. Thank you, auntie."
