CHAPTER FIVE;
our last summer
"SHE WAS SPECIAL, one of a kind you would say." issac began sitting down next to her. "and she was irresistible." both scott and stiles hummed in agreement.
"and we had a deep love for each other, we went to paris together you know?" betty smiled. "well i sort of followed her to paris..." betty giggled.
"she loved it! we walked along the seine, laughing in the rain, our last summer, memories that remain."
"we took a tour of the whole city, stopped in every cafe possible to try the french cuisine, it was the best summer of my life." he spoke smiling happily.
issac took her hand and slowly guided her to the other side of the boat. "see that there." he pointed to an old lighthouse. she nodded looking up at him.
"that's where me and your mother met." betty smiled happily.
"it used to be a hotel." betty looked at him in surprise. "that's where i first stayed, your mother walked in and i thought she worked there, i asked her for the room key considering i left mine in the room."
"that's not that bad." she spoke.
"wearing only just a towel." betty burst into laughter.
"i thought she spoke greek and didn't understand english, so there's me the idiot trying to speak to her in greek." issac chuckled quietly to himself.
"i made a promise that i would take your mother out to apologise as such, and that's where we first fell in love... well at least i did..." betty looked at him sympathetically.
"she was seeing someone else before we official started dating... but i don't regret a single moment because i fell head over heels for lydia martin." betty smiled at him.
"we sat right in front of the eiffel tower, you should've seen your mothers face she was in love." issac was in awe "she was so happy we had met! it was the age of no regrets." issac spoke and smile never fading from his face.
"land ahoy!!" scott shouted causing elizabeth to laugh. he pulled up the boat and dropped the anchor. scott carefully got off the boat and helped betty off it.
she smiled and followed them walking. "i've never seen this side of the island before."
"it's beautiful isn't it." scott smiled taking her hand.
"it is." she looked around the island in admiration.
"i took your mother here." scott smiled. "our first date, we had a bottle of whiskey and the view of the sea." betty smiled listening to him.
"come on." he shrugged his head in the direction he wanted them to follow in. once arriving they sat out a huge blanket and emptied a basket that was full of food.
"so elizabeth..." issac began. "tell us about you.."
"my life is not exciting." she spoke a small smile on her face.
"i'm sure it is." issac smiled.
"only child, grew up on the island and helped my mom with the hotel." she smiled.
"what about school and what do you want to do with your future?" stiles asked.
"i don't think i could leave my mom..." she spoke. "but i'd like to travel the world one day... maybe with jughead... i just want to see it all."
"you should do it betty, you'll always regret the chances you didn't take..." stiles spoke.
"now come on, let's go for a swim." she changed the subject getting up and heading for the edge of the cliff. she waited for them to catch up, "ready." she took issac's and stiles' hand, scott standing next to stiles.
they ran up and jumped off, screaming. all of them flying through the air landing with a huge splash. when they all surfaced betty smiled happily. "that was so much fun!" she giggled.
"don't think i can do that again." stiles groaned stretching his back making her giggle.
"shut up grandpa." she splashed him, this made him gasp and splash her back, she quickly ducked making him accidentally splash issac, who splashed him back which resulted in all four of them joining in and splashing each other.
after a while of swimming they decided to get out and headed back to the picnic that scott had kindly made for them. betty shivered slightly, stiles immediately noticing and passing her his blue and red flannel.
she took it with a kind smile, not needing to say anything but give him a warm smile. she immediately put it on, the soft and gentle fabric heaven to her skin.
stiles couldn't help but picture lydia. he had let her borrow the exact same one, on the day they met. he smiled remembering how perfect it fit her, a warm blanket for her; but a magnificent view for him.
once cuddling into the flannel betty joined scott under a tree. "you didn't finish the story of how you met my mom."
"well we first met only the main island, she was singing in a bar and i heard her, her voice was very very beautiful i'll tell you that." he smiled remembering her.
"she sings?" betty asked making him nod happily.
"the most angelic voice i've ever heard." he smiled "after that it all just seemed to click, i took her on my boat and i sailed her round the island and we fell in love."
"sounds wonderful." she admired him.
"it was, and it was very crazy the era of the flower power." scott stuck up peace signs making elizabeth burst out giggling. "it's a real shame it never worked out for me and her, but let me tell you betts, she's a magnificent woman your mom." he smiled and kissed her head.
after a while they all headed back to the boat, betty headed over to stiles and took and seat next to him.
"so stiles... i've heard there story... what's yours?"
he sighed. "i don't think you really want to know..."
"i do..." she smiled hopeful.
"it was pouring with rain and i was driving along on in my jeep-" betty almost immediately interrupted him.
"a blue jeep?" she asked making him nod. "you gave it to her?" he nodded again. "she still has it..." this made him look at her with soft eyes.
"really?" he asked full of hope, she nodded.
"she could never get rid of it."
"anyway there she is, she ran out straight in front of my jeep, i nearly killed her." he chuckled softly.
"the storm was brutal, let me tell you, i asked her why she hadn't taken shelter... and do you know why she hadn't taken shelter?" she shook her head.
"because she was saving a horse that was trapped in a broken stable." he had a smile on his face. "after that we clicked, we got to know each other a lot more."
"you stayed on the island?" she asked making him nod.
"a little shack on the hill, everything a home was chaotic, it was all lined up for me... my future... but i wanted to see the world travel..."
"so what happened?"
"oh betts, we had a fear of flying, of growing old, of slowly dying. your mother wasn't one to stand still and because of my family nor could i." he wrapped and around her.
"are you the hero of my dreams?" she asked him, he gave her a sympathetic smile and stroked her cheek.
"i can still recall our last summer..." he looked at her. "memories that remain."
"ELIZABETH!!!" someone shouted rather loud causing her to look toward land.
"oh shoot!" she got up abruptly. "it's jughead..." she headed over the edge of the boat and took off stiles flannel that he kindly gave to her. "thank you for a wonderful, amazing day! but please come, please come tomorrow? promise me."
"it's a promise darling." scott spoke.
"you go it." issac spoke.
"i'll be there." stiles smiled before she dived off the boat and sawm to shore.
