you convinced yourself you didn't really care, but just in case this was a date, you made sure to dress a little more nicely than you normally would, with your hair down instead of tied back, and you wore your new shoes that you found on sale a week ago. you even went as far as applying a little bit of mascara and lipgloss before you decided you weren't willing to put in any more effort.

you took the bus to your destination, and you had to jog to the designated spot seeing as you were a few minutes late.

"finally."

you almost jumped at tsukishima's voice, not having seen him when you arrived, which was strange since you were normally observant.

"i'm not that late." you protested.

"the three minutes you wasted could've been the different between the success and the failure of a mission." he scolded.

"geez, you sound like my high school teachers. 'one mark could be the difference between passing and failing' blah blah blah. besides, i'm not on a mission right now." you complained.

he glared at you before sighing. "don't waste my time again, in future."

"aww, have you already decided you want to go on a second date with me? am i really that attractive? thanks tsukishima!" you teased.

"this is not a stupid date." he insisted.

"oh yeah? then what is it?" you believed him when he said it wasn't a date. he didn't look like he put much effort into his appearance at all, heck the baggy pants and hoodie that he was wearing might've been what he slept in last night for all you knew.

"driving lessons." he explained, leading the way to a car. 

"you're kidding."

"you wish i was. you need to learn how to drive incase it's needed in future missions."

"but i couldn't drive last time and we all survived!" you argued.

"i was half controlling the steering wheel so that i wouldn't die." he reminded. "you're learning to drive. that's that."

since he wasn't going to take no for an answer, you supposed you had no choice and got into the drivers seat of the car and tsukishima handed you the keys. "now slowly turn on the car."

"wait, cars can get horny?"

"not that kind of turn on you imbecile, start the engine!" he groaned.

"oh!" you exclaimed. "that's what you meant." you twisted the key clockwise and the car started, and tsukishima was explaining what everything was inside the car was so that you wouldn't be driving like a lunatic.

it had been an hour into your driving lesson, and tsukishima did not trust you to turn any corners in fear that you'd crash into some other cars or drive on the wrong lane, so he handled the steering wheel when you had to go left or right and told you to focus on the brake and accelerator.

you'd been driving down an empty road for some time, and your eyes landed on something on the path. "hey, tsukishima."

"what do you want?"

"what are those wave looking things on the road called again?"

tsukishima's eyes scanned the road, trying to figure out what on earth you were talking about until he realised what you were referring to. "you mean the speed bumps?"

"fuck yeah, finally some fun in driving!" you exclaimed and stepped on the accelerator.

"no wait you're supposed to—"
a series of bumps later, tsukishima managed to finish his sentence. "—slow down."

"why the hell is it call a speed bump then?" you groaned. "plus that felt like bumper cars and it was kind of fun. i think i might've broken my back though."

that's when tsukihima finally announced that it was time for a break and you got out of the car, allowing him to park the car properly. "next time, you're learning how to park. your parking sucks."

"i've never parked a car before, considering that it's my first time doing this, i'd say i'm doing a great job thanks."

"l/n, you used two parking slots for this one car."

"at least i didn't use three."

"you can't use thr—"

"wanna bet?"

he sighed and gave up. "there's no point arguing with someone as thick headed as you." he mumbled.

"rude, but whatever. i know you secretly have a huge crush on me." you sneered.

he scoffed. "like i'd ever drop my standards that low."

"ouch tsukishima, you almost hurt my feelings for a minute."

"damn, and here i thought i'd broken your heart."

"nah, you're mean to those you like." you pointed out.

"as if."

"you're mean to kageyama, and he's your best friend. and you're mean to yamaguchi sometimes, and he's also your best friend. and now you're mean to me, so now i'm your best fr—"

"i met you two days ago and i really wish i hadn't." he interjected.

"you can't hurt my feelings sweetheart, you owe me your life." you teased.

"can you stop bringing that up?"

"can you stop being a salty asshole?" your question was met with my incoherent mumbling, causing you to laugh at him. "i thought as much."

after taking a break, tsukishima appeared tired and drove you home instead of staying to practice driving again. "thanks for dropping me." you said flashing him a quick smile while getting out of the car.

"i'll pick you up here tomorrow too. you've a week off at least since you hit your head but you're functioning fine so use this time to learn to drive. every day this week you'll be learning to drive better, okay?"

even though he was giving orders, he'd sounded less demanding than he did before your mission. maybe it was because he was tired, or maybe he was only that strict during missions, but you liked seeing him behave calmer and more relaxed rather than have his guard up, expecting the worst at any given moment.

"roger that, boss." you responded. "drive safe."

and you weren't sure if you heard him right, but you thought you heard him mutter a barely audible 'thank you'.

while he drove off, you couldn't keep the goofy smile off your face as you shouted 'you're welcome dino boy!"
