You carefully climbed the stairs with two steaming cups of hot chocolate, and stopped by your room to pull on a better pair of sweats, a thick hoodie and fluffy socks. You let your hair down to keep you that bit warmer.

You unlocked the terrace door with the keys in your room. You were the only one who went up here since your grandma struggled to climb stairs.

Holding the tray of two the cups of hot drinks meant for you and Kageyama in one hand, you pointed at the duvet you'd left at the bottom of the stairs to Kageyama and he picked it up on his way.

You nodded in approval and held the terrace door open for him to walk through and leaned it shut once he did. You led the way to sit on the bench in the middle of the terrace and set the tray of your drinks down.

Then, taking the duvet from Kageyama's hands, you threw it around the both of you. There was quite a bit of space between you two on the bench, but you weren't about to inch closer to him.
No, you wouldn't give him the satisfaction of doing that.

You shoved a mug of hot chocolate into his hands and out of the corner of your eye, you could make out a small smile. This made you relax. At least he wasn't mad anymore.

"So are you going to explain what the hell was up with you or will I have to waste my hot chocolate by dumping it on your head?" You asked, breaking the silence.

He had to look at your face to make sure you were joking, because knowing you, almost anything was possible. "Keep your hot chocolate -oh it tastes great by the way-" You hardened your glare when he tried changing the subject. "-but I'll explain why I was acting up."

You looked at him expectantly, waiting for him to go on. "I was upset. And I think a little offended. When you saw Oikawa-san after two whole years, you didn't seem to have trouble catching up him. But when we hadn't talked for two years and we went to the same school and saw each other every single day, you didn't make an effort to talk to me. I know it sounds stupid, (f/n) but I can't help it I-"

You covered his mouth with your hand, shaking your head. "I spoke to Tooru that easily because I hadn't seen him in so long. If I were in the same school as him and saw him every day and we'd drifted, I would never make a move to talk to him first. Even today, he approached me first. You should be feeling grateful I decided to pester you until you couldn't get rid of me this year." You said the last part playfully, punching his arm.

"(F/n)..." He trailed off, searching for words. "I want to be able to go back to how we were. From before we drifted."

"You need to stop dwelling on the past, Tobio. I quite like where our friendship is headed at the moment." You smiled. "Are we good?"

He looked at you for a moment, contemplating this, before nodding. "We're good."

You felt something small and wet drop on your nose and then your head and then all around you.

Your eyes widened when you realised it was snow. "Woah!" You exclaimed in awe, holding your hand out at first then wriggling out of the duvet to walk around in the snow.

You pulled off your fluffy socks and tucked them under the safety of the duvet before prancing around in the snow that seemed to be sticking.

"Tobio! Look! It's the first snowfall of the year!" You gasped, still not able to take your eyes off the sight you hadn't seen in so long. "It's so beautiful."

The first snowfall of the year and I was sharing this moment with Tobio. Is this some kind of sign?

He got up to stand next to you, also barefoot and nodded, holding out his hand to let little bits of snow touch him before it melted away. "It is." He agreed, and then, a moment later, "You like the snow?"

"I like almost any weather. But I haven't seen the snow in so long!" You were still trying to catch snow in your hands, even though you knew it would melt the second you touched it.
Kageyama pulled you back to the bench. "Sit down and wrap that duvet around yourself. You'll get sick." He warned.
You didn't disobey him this time, instead you followed what he'd said without much thought, both of you picking up your hot drink again, which wasn't so hot anymore.

You snuck a glance at him. He looked calm and... content? You supposed you could say that. There was bits of snow in his hair that hadn't melted away just yet and you felt a little tug at your heart at this precious sight.

The two of you sat in a comfortable silence for a minute or two before Kageyama spoke again. "I heard you on the phone today." He said, taking a large sip of the hot chocolate.

You immediately panicked, almost choking on your drink, thinking he meant your call with Yukio. "I can explain! You're not actually a confusing little cow, Yukio and I just get very dramatic over the smallest things!"

He looked concerned now. "I've no clue what you're on about (f/n). I was just about to knock on your door when I heard you talking to Oikawa-san."

Your shoulders slumped in relief. You barely just dodged a bullet. "Oh. That. I'm just going to the movies with Tooru and Hajime."

Kageyama's eyes widened upon hearing that. "I didn't stay to listen, I just heard you greet him." He muttered.

"Is there something wrong with you and Tooru?" You asked. "You always seem so bitter when his name comes up."

Kageyama set down his now empty mug and scooted a little closer to you. You finished your hot chocolate and did the same, sliding right next to him, feeling the warmth of the duvet properly now.

Kageyama gently used his hand to tip your head over to rest on his shoulder. "I just don't want him to take you away, (f/n)." You felt his large hands stroke your hair. "I can't let that happen again."

You wrapped your arms around his torso and buried your face into the nape of his neck to hide your flushed face. "You won't, Tobio." You assured him. "This time, I'm not going anywhere."

Bittersweet.
You felt happiness, with underlying pain and regret. You shouldn't have fought with him over such a tiny matter. But you knew arguments like these were unavoidable. Still, the fact that you caused him pain made you feel guilty.

So bittersweet. You sighed. Despite the happiness you felt now, you couldn't help wallowing in self pity. Not only did you make it hard for you, you made it hard for him too. Maybe he wasn't the one who was bittersweet? Perhaps, it was you.

"I promise I'm not going anywhere." You meant it, because somewhere in the embrace you shared with Kageyama, you finally figured out why you'd felt such strong emotions for this boy.

This is bad, (f/n). This is very very bad. You told yourself.

You liked Kageyama Tobio, and you couldn't even begin to understand how much.

Kageyama pulled the hood over your head when he heard you sniff a little.
"Let's head back indoors." He said softly. "If you get sick I'm going to kill you."

You nodded and collected the mugs, and Kageyama scooped the duvet up in his hands, dropping it onto your bed on the way downstairs. You locked he terrace up once you'd stepped foot in the house again and quickly washed the two mugs, Kageyama helped you dry them despite your protests.

He walked with you until the bottom of the stairs and the two of you lingered there for a few moments longer, not wanting to part so soon.

You stayed until the butterflies in your stomach wouldn't let you stand still anymore. "Good night, Tobio. Sleep well." You whispered.

"Good night, (f/n). Sweet dreams." He responded and we both went to our separate rooms.

Before you slept, you knew you had to do just one thing.

Grabbing your phone, you opened up the chat between you and Yukio and left a bundle of messages.

You:
Hey, girl.

Okay fine I'll just say it

Yukio:
Oh hun', tell me
something I don't know.

You chuckled, not too surprised your best friend had figured it out before you.

You glanced at the time on your phone.

12:49 a.m.
A yawn escaped your mouth, all the sleep that hadn't come to you in the past 24 hours was catching up, and you gave in to it, shutting your eyes and falling into a deep sleep.
