7.) Avatar?

Maki knew that after the sports festival that those two recuperating days, the school gave them, would be hell for Shoto. She knew that his father would be pushing him to his limits for losing.

So, she decided that he was gonna come hang out with her for the day.

Maki was already at the Todoroki residence, knocking on the door. She knows Fuyumi is coming to answer before she even opens the door.

"Ah, Maki-chan! Now isn't really the best time!" Fuyumi worriedly says.

Maki can hear the yells from here and grins. "It's the perfect time." Her face becomes serious. "Or are you gonna try to stop me?"

Fuyumi gulps, putting her hands up. "No!"

Maki smiles, skipping past her eventual sister-in-law and going straight to the training room where she knows the two men are located.

She traps and pulls Endeavour into the ground even before she enters the room. Only his head remains shown, enraged.

"Ohayo, otousan!" Maki grins as she flings open the door to the training room.

Enji's right eye twitches in annoyance as he sighs. "Maki, what are you doing here?"

"I'm here to take Sho! What else?"

"We're busy if you can't tell."

"Too bad! Come on, Sho! Go get cleaned and changed then we'll head out!"

"He's to remain here to train today!" Enji shouts, head bursting into flames.

Maki thinks. "Alright, how about this, if you can get out of the floor by the time Sho finishes freshening up, he stays." She viciously grins. "But I won't make it easy for you."

He doesn't get out, and the two leave behind a ball of enraged fire.

"Thank you."

"Anything for you!" she smiles, hooking her arm around his to lean on his shoulder. "We're going to a cat cafe!"

"Cat cafe?"

"Yeah! It's a cafe full of kitties!"

"Oh."

"Then we can get soba after!"

"Okay."

She gives him a big smile before leaning on him as they're taken by Tadao to the cat cafe.

~~~
They don't make it to the cat cafe.
Traffic is piled back because of a villain attack.
"Sho, how about we go ahead and see if they need any help?"
"We can't. We aren't licensed yet."
"So? Doesn't mean we can't help," she says, grabbing his wrist and pulling him out the limo. "Let's go!"
He doesn't pull away and lets her lead them to the main fight.
"You kids shouldn't be here! Get to safety!" a galaxy hero shouts as she blasts a beam from her hands. She then does a double take at the two. "Wait a minute, you two are students from UA. I watched you guys during the sports festival! Great! That means you can help. I'll just say you were interning under me for the day if something happens. Help get all these people to safety!"
(The galaxy flows like Luna's hair from mlp. Yes this is my oc Galaxy. Has no relation to my other story with her. Another reality. As you'll notice she has a different personality.)
Maki salutes and the two go to help people trapped under rubble and in buildings.
"This is so cool! Galaxy is like the 2nd most popular female hero! She's so cool!" Maki squeaks as they help people.
"Cool."
"She can create portals and fire off beams and lots of other badass cosmic stuff!"
"Kids watch out!" Galaxy shouts, shoving her way in front of the kids to block a car from smashing them.
Maki grins. "Don't worry, I was gonna crush it, but thanks for protecting us anyway."
Galaxy grits her teeth. "There should be other heroes to help me out by now. Where are they!?"
Maki stops a car in midair to their left from being thrown into them. "I sense 20 villains out here." She makes a fist which crushes the car into a small ball then drops it.
"20?" Galaxy groans. "Today is just not my day." Her shield gets shattered, and she's blasted back into the two teens who then vanish. "Ah, shit. It really isn't my day. Endeavor, Tornado, and Earthquake are gonna kill me when I tell them I sent their kids to another universe."
~~~

One moment they're on a road fighting a villain and the next they're falling through the air straight into what looks like a giant ravine.

Shoto is the one awake, yelling to try and wake up Maki who seems to be asleep. "Maki!! MAKI!!" He pushes himself closer to her with his fire side. "MAKI!" He grabs her and shakes her as they fall past the ledge to the ravine.

She stirs awake, quickly realizing the situation and sending a large gust of air to slow their fall into floating.

"Where are we? What happened? And are those upside down buildings built into a cliff?"

Shoto begins to answer but stops at her last question. "What?" He turns to look where she points out and leads them over to it.

They land on the edge of it and look around.

"Whoa, this is amazing!" Maki shouts, looking up at the giant statues. "Where are we? Sho!" She whirls to look at him. "Did we just find an unknown temple?! This is so cool!"

Sho takes a few breaths, still trying to recover from almost dying. "I... don't know."

"Wow, I wonder who they are." She looks up at the giant statues. "Sho, let's go explore!" Maki squeals.

"Maki, aren't you worried? We were just in Japan, and now I don't even know where we are."

Maki shrugs. "As long as you're here, I'm okay. We'll figure it out. Come on, let's go see if we can find someone to ask."

"Fine."

The two begin to walk around, taking their time as they look around at everything.

"I sense people this way. Let's see if they can help us." She begins to lead them to the people, but Shoto pulls her back.

"What if they're villains? We could be walking right into a trap. We don't even know how we got here."

"Obviously because of Galaxy's powers. I'm sure we'll be back home soon. Let's go say hel–" She pauses, sensing a vibration coming towards them in the ground. She stomps to stop the ground from emerging beneath them. "Sho, move!" She grabs him as she uses her earth quirk to stop what she can.

The two end up in the area with the other people.

A group of 8, teens and kids, are in defensive positions at their appearance. A giant white creature with six legs and a flying lemur like animal are also near them.

"Who are you?" the boy dressed in blue shouts with a sword out.

A large burst of fire is sent their way. Shoto moves in front of Maki, blasting through it with his own flames.

"Zuko, wait," baldy tries to stop the older boy.

"They're firebenders, likely sent here by my sister," the black haired boy, Zuko, growls, sending another blast at them.

"What's with the weird clothes and hair colors?" blue boy asks, protecting the boy in the wheelchairlike thing and a smaller boy.

Maki quickly deduces that the little green girl and boy with the mustache have earth quirks. She continuously counteracts their attacks from the ground.

"Our earthbending isn't working!" green girl huffs.

"They should be sunken in the ground by now," mustache says.

They try a different tactic and lift boulders from the ground to fling at the heroes in training. Maki moves forward and punches them into dust, eyes narrowing. "If you want to play then we can play." Maki shifts her stance.

"They have earth quirks like you," Shoto says. "Are they related to you?"

"Not everyone who has similar quirks are always related Sho."

"She's an earthbender!" green girl shouts.

"She's scary!" blue boy gulps.

"Scary or not, we need to take them down," blue girl says, swirling water around her.

Zuko moves closer with flames swirling around him, eyes widening in shock once he sees the scar upon Shoto's face. "You're scar..."

Shoto blinks in shock from seeing Zuko's, gently touching his own scar. "Same scar."

Water girl heads to join the two, whipping water at Shoto and breaking the two out of their trance. "Zuko, pay attention!"

Maki feels the air shift and lifts a rock wall from behind her to block it. "Nice try. Gotta be quicker than that."

The two earthbenders and baldy advance on Maki. She's quick to realize the the bald kid is the one with the air manipulating quirk.

She smirks. "This'll be like fighting my family all at the same time. Alright." She swirls air around her, blasting it towards the earth users and snagging the baldy in a rock cage.

The two earthbenders are thrown back but the baldy somehow breaks the walls down. His eyes are blown wide as he exits.

At the same time, Shoto grabs one of the water whips and completely freezes it over. Zuko and the water girl both stop for a moment.

"You're also a waterbender?!" she shouts.

"YOU'RE AN AIRBENDER!" baldy shouts with the biggest eyes the two UA students have ever seen.

Everyone whirls around to look at the bald one then to Maki who's now in the air. "What?!"

Maki drops out of her deadly self for a second. "Huh? Why's that so surprising?"

"Because... I'm the only remaining airbender," baldy sadly says then perks up. "But I guess we were wrong!"

"It still doesn't explain how they both can bend two elements!" blue boy shouts.

"What do you mean you're the last one?" Maki deems it safe to land and does so. "Yeah, my mom, brother, uncle, and cousin can too."

"There must be a secret society of airbenders," water girl gasps.

"Are we forgetting something?! Two elements?!!!" blue boy shouts.

Shoto moves closer to Maki, seeing as the fighting is likely over. "You have an air quirk?" Shoto says. "Is he–"

"No, Sho, he's not related to me either," Maki chuckles.

"Who cares if they have two elements?" the girl in green huffs still annoyed at being knocked down. "Let's take them down!" She stomps on the ground.

"Toph, stop!" the bald boy shouts.

Maki immediately negates the attack with her own quirk, resulting the ground to split between the two groups. Maki then fixes it.

"I'm Iwase Maki and this is Todoroki Shoto," Maki introduces. "We aren't here to fight."

"How did you get here?" the girl in blue asks with a firm glare.

"We don't really know ourselves," Maki answers.

"How do you not know?" blue boy asks.

"We aren't from around here," Shoto answers. "We just kinda dropped in."

"Okay, okay. If we're gonna be all buddy buddy, I gotta ask why your hair colors are all weird," blue boy asks. "And what's with the weird clothes?"

Maki laughs. "Well my dad has green hair and mom has blue. I got a mix of both. Same with him. Dad has red and mom has white along with the eye color of each. These are normal clothes. You guys are the ones dressed weird."

"Zuko!" blue boy shouts upon getting a good look at Shoto. "You have a scar twin!"

"I noticed."

Maki chuckles, nudging Shoto. "You guys have the same scar. Are you related?"

Shoto's eyes widen. "Do you think that's possible?"

She snorts.

"I'm Aang! It's so cool to meet another airbender!" he zips up to Maki and shakes her hand repeatedly and fast.

"Uh, yeah..."

"I'm Katara, this is Teo, Haru, and the Duke. That's Zuko, my brother Sokka, Appa, and Momo."

Zuko and Shoto just continue to stare at each other.

"Momo," Maki says. "My best friend is named Momo!"

"I'm Toph," the smallest girl says. "And how can you bend two elements?"

"Yeah!" Sokka shouts in agreement.

"Only the Avatar can control more than one element!" Katara shouts.

"Avatar?" the two question.

"You don't know about the Avatar!?" Sokka shouts.

Maki looks at Shoto. "I don't think we're in Japan anymore."

"Japan?" Sokka voices confused. "I don't know anywhere called that."

"Does Galaxy have the ability to cross universes?" Shoto asks, breaking his staring contest with Zuko to look at her.

"If she can, I've never heard about it. You think we're in a different universe?"

"Hello, we're still here!" Sokka huffs.

"Oh, sorry. We think we come from another world," Maki says.

"Another world?!"

Maki pulls out her phone from her pocket to find no bars. "I didn't think we'd have service here."

"Ooo, what's that?" Teo asks, rolling up to her.

"It's called a phone. You can call people with it all across the world," Maki explains, handing it to him to observe.

"This is incredible!"

"It can take pictures too," Maki says as she takes her phone back. She angles the phone to capture everyone before taking a picture. "See?"

"That's amazing! Can I have this?" Teo asks.

"Sure just give it back to me later," Maki says. "And be careful with it. It breaks easily."

"Another world," Katara mutters. "That's incredible. I don't understand how."

"Well, we were helping people get to safety from a villain attack one moment and then we were falling from the sky after getting hit with Galaxy," Maki explains. "It was most likely her quirk."

"Quirk? What's a quirk?" Aang asks.

"Our powers," Maki responds. "Sho's half hot half cold. Mine is half air half earth." She sheepishly laughs. "We got our quirks at around the same time. Our parents are good friends."

"Does everyone have powers like yours?" Aang asks.

"Only 80 percent of our world has powers, and they're all so different. From sticking to walls to animal people to flying to making clones."

"Your world sounds incredible," the Duke says in awe.

"It can be," Shoto says.

"Sorry we came off on the wrong foot," Maki says. "Is it alright if we stay here with you guys until we figure out how to get back?"

"I don't see a problem with that," Aang says. "This'll be really fun!"

"If Aang is okay with it then I am too," Katara says. "But make one wrong move, and I'll make sure it's your last. I still don't believe your story."

Maki smirks. "You can try, little girl."

"Little?! We're like the same age!"

"Yeah, but all of you are really short," Shoto says.

"People in this world must be super short," Maki says. "My height is normal for a girl my age. Zuko you're the tallest and you can't be taller than 150cm."

"I don't even know what that means."

"Measurement must be different too," Shoto says.

"Well, I'm cool with you two," Toph says. "You two seem fun. I want a rematch later, Maki."

"Sure!"

"I don't have a say. I'm also new," Zuko says.

Sokka sighs, slumping his shoulders. "I'll show you two to your rooms."

~~~
It's now dark and everyone is gathered around a campfire after dinner. Zuko made everyone tea.
"No one can make tea like uncle," he says as he pours it into cups. "But hopefully I learned a thing or two. Would you like to hear uncle's favorite tea joke?"
"Sure," Katara says.
Everyone gives him confirmations to go for it.
"Okay. Well, I can't remember how it starts but the punch line is 'Leaf me alone, I'm bushed.'" he blinks, looking a bit embarrassed at the silence. "Well, it's funnier when uncle tells it."
"Right," Katara snickers. "Maybe that's because he remembers the whole thing."
A round of giggles go around.
"It's nice to get a chance to relax a little. It hardly ever happens," Toph says with a smile, taking the cup Zuko offers her and sipping it.
He comes up to the multihaired couple next, passing them cups.
"Thank you, Zuko," Maki smiles up at him. "It smells good."
Shoto takes his, silently sipping on it.
"Uh, you're welcome," Zuko replies with a dorky but cute smile. He then makes his way over to Sokka.
The two end up leaving to talk. Maki watches the boys go curiously.
"So, what exactly are Momo and Appa?" Maki speaks up.
"Appa is a flying bison and–"
"Wait! He can fly?!" Maki shouts, eyes shining.
"Yeah!" Aang laughs. "Do you not have flying bisons?"
"The only thing that can fly in our world are birds or people with flying quirks," Maki says. "Our number 3 hero has these big red wings. He goes by Hawks."
"Momo is a winged lemur," Katara says.
"Wow, that's so cool," Maki says. "We don't really have cool animals in our world. A few animals will have powers, but it's not common."
"That's so cool!" Aang says. "I wanna go to your world!"
~~~

Everyone ended up falling asleep around the fire. Maki is snuggled in Shoto's chest, soaking in his warmth.

She's stirred awake by movement, harshly blinking her eyes to see straight. She decides to place her palm flat on the ground to figure out who's up. "Sokka?"

Said boy freezes in his spot, slowly turning his head to look back. "Ssh, you're imagining things. This is just a dreaaam.~" he whispers, putting a finger over his lips.

Maki rolls her eyes, pulling herself out of Shoto's grip to sit up. "What're you doing?"

Sokka sighs, slumping his shoulders. "Nothiiing, just going to the bathroom."

She quirks an eyebrow with a smirk. "I can tell when you're lying. Besides, who goes to the bathroom with all that stuff?"

"Fine, you got me. It's nothing you need to concern yourself with," Sokka whispers, waving off. "Just a little family stuff."

She stretches her arms out and yawns. "Can I go?"

"No, just me."

She hums and stands up. "No, I'm coming along."

"I don't–"

Shoto groans, sitting up. "Maki? What's wrong?"

"Come on, we're gonna help Sokka with something."

"I don't need you guys to help me!" he whisper huffs.

Shoto and Maki are already by his side. "So, where to?" Shoto asks.

Sokka groans, slouching. "Fine. You two can come only if you follow my orders."

Maki shrugs. "You know your world better than we do." She salutes. "Aye. Aye, captain."

"We're taking Appa," Sokka says, pointing over to the bison. "Come on."

The three make their way over to him. Sokka climbs up first to show them how to after 'shushing' Appa.

"Not up to anything, huh?"

Sokka then yelps, falling back and to the ground. Zuko pops his head out from the top of Appa's saddle. Everything in Sokka's bag spills out underneath him.

"Fine, you caught me," Sokka huffs, sitting up and putting everything back in his bag. "I'm gonna rescue my Dad. You happy now?"

"I'm never happy," Zuko responds, making Maki chuckle a little and earning his attention. "And what're they doing with you?"

"They invited themselves," Sokka grunts. "Look, I have to do this. The invasion plan was my idea. It was my decision to stay when things were going wrong." Zuko jumps down from the saddle. "It's my mistake, and it's my job to fix it. I have to regain my honor. You can't stop me Zuko." He passes Zuko and begins to climb Appa again.

"You need to regain your honor? Believe me, I get it. I'm going with you."

"No. I have to do this alone."

"Alone?" He looks to the multicolored-haired teens. "How are you going to get there? On Appa? Last time I checked prisons don't have bison daycares." Sokka sighs, knowing Zuko is right. "We'll take my war balloon."

Maki pouts. "Awww... I wanted to see the bison fly..."

~~~
"It's kinda cramped on here..." Sokka mumbles.
"Well, it's meant for two people, not four," Zuko responds.
Currently, to save room, Maki is sitting on Shoto's lap. Shoto remains quiet, hiding his pink face by looking out towards the sky. The sun has risen, letting everyone actually see where they're going.
"Sooo..." Sokka trails off, looking to the heroes in training. "Are you two... like... dating?"
"Us?" Maki questions, pointing between her and Shoto.
"No... we're... uh..."
"We've known each other since birth," Maki says. "Our parents put us in an arranged marriage once we finish school."
"Ah, did you make a betrothal necklace yet?" Sokka asks Shoto.
Shoto turns confused. "A what?"
"It's a hand-carved necklace that guys give to the women they intend to marry. It shows that she's taken to everyone else," Sokka explains. "Like the one Katara has except it was originally our grandma's."
"So kinda like a wedding ring, Sho," Maki says.
"O-Oh. No, we haven't gotten one yet."
There becomes an awkward silence, making everyone avoid eye contact with each other.
"Pretty clouds..." Sokka says, trying to start up another conversation.
"Yeah, fluffy..." Zuko awkwardly responds. Then Sokka starts to whistle, making Zuko turn to him. "What?"
"What? Oh, I didn't say anything," Sokka responds. "...You know, a friend of mine actually designed these war balloons."
"No kidding."
"Yep. A balloon. But for War.
"There's one thing my dad's good at, it's war." Zuko blasts more fire into the tank.
Maki curiously tilts her head.
"Yeah, it seems to run in the family."
"Hey, hold on. Not everyone in my family is like that."
"I know, I know, you've changed." Sokka waves off.
"I meant my uncle. He was more of a father to me, and I really let him down."
"I think your uncle would be proud of you. Leaving your home to come help us, that's hard."
"It wasn't that hard."
"Really? You didn't leave behind anyone you cared about?"
"Well, I did have a girlfriend, Mai."
"That gloomy girl who sighs a lot?" Sokka grins.
"Yeah. Everyone in the Fire Nation thinks I'm a traitor. I couldn't drag her into it."
"My first girlfriend turned into the Moon."
"That's rough buddy."
Maki cringes. "This is gonna be a long trip..."
Shoto nods beside her. He looks at Zuko, particularly his scar. "Zuko, how'd... you get your scar?"
"Sho, you shouldn't just ask people that!" she harshly whispers.
"Only if you tell me how you got yours," Zuko replies.
Shoto nods and the two share their stories with each other.
"Seems like we are very similar," Shoto says.
"Freaky," Sokka adds.
"I'd say the more I know you Zuko, the more similarities I find," Maki says.
~~~

Night falls again. Sokka falls asleep, snoring super loud. Zuko and Shoto have traded out keeping the fire going to keep the balloon afloat. It's Zuko's turn again. Maki has been keeping herself occupied by using her air quirk to move them a bit faster.

"There it is," Zuko announces.

Sokka is immediately awake. "Huh?"

"There's plenty of steam to keep us covered. As long as we're quiet we should be able to navigate through it without being caught."

"Easy enough," Maki nods, standing up.

Zuko and Shoto work together to get the balloon higher to hide in the steam. Then they immediately begin to plummet down to the island inside.

"We're going down. The balloon's not working anymore!" Zuko alarms.

"The air outside is just as hot as the air inside so we can't fly," Sokka replies.

"So what are we supposed to do?" Zuko gasps.

"Leave that to us," Maki answers. "Sho, ice please."

Shoto makes a small pillar of ice in his hands as Maki manipulates her air to hit it then surround the balloon with cool air. Zuko catches on and goes to throw more fire in the tank. They manage to land on the outskirts of the island safely. They get out of the balloon and sigh.

"Glad to have the two of you here," Sokka sighs relieved. "Now we gotta hide this balloon."

"I got it." Maki sucks the air out from the balloon, tucking it into the basket before covering it in rock. "See? Totally gone."

"Now, what's our plan?" Zuko asks.

Sokka turns to them with a grin. "Disguises. Maki, do you think you can make a path underground to inside. Preferably to a closet of uniforms."

"Easy." She stomps on the ground and shoves her hands forward towards the nearest rock. A large cave forms. "Follow me."

The four enter, and Maki closes it behind them. Zuko and Shoto make flames in their hands to light the way.

"So, can you sense things with your feet like Toph can?" Sokka asks, looking down at Maki's bare feet as she continues to make the tunnel.

"I can," she responds. "It's how I was able to stop her from earthbending us into the ground when we first met." She begins to make the tunnel go up. "Alright, we're right underneath a closet. I'm assuming they're metal uniforms?"

"Yeah," Zuko nods.

"There's nobody inside." She opens a hole in the floor above them then raises them up into it. "Let's get dressed up."

Maki goes over to the girl's side of uniforms, keeping herself turned as the boys get dressed. Zuko had to help the other two on how to properly wear the outfit. The three leave once they're done, letting Maki get dressed alone.

"I hope these disguises work," Zuko says as Maki leaves the room.

"We just need to lay low and find my dad as soon as possible," Sokka says.

Then a bunch of guards come running down the hall beside them. One pops out from the group to get their attention. "Guards! There's a scuffle in the yard, come on!"

They all look at each other.

"Just go with the flow," Maki whispers, following after the guard.

The others follow behind her. Everyone races out into the prison yard where a large circle of prisoners are surrounding two men. The guards push their way through the prisoners, spreading themselves out around inside the circle to keep them back.

"Well, I thought everyone here was gonna be short but that guy is normal height," Maki mumbles, observing the prisoner. "Sho, we found someone your height."

A 'large' man and a guard are the two in the middle.

"I didn't do anything. I'm going back to my cell."

"Stop right there, Chit Sang," the guard says.

Sokka holds Zuko back from interfering. "We can't blow our cover."

"I've had it with your unruly behavior."

"What did I do?" Chit Sang asks.

"He wants to know what he did. Isn't that cute?" the guard grins, leaning close to the four. They don't respond, making the guard flip up his helmet and glare at them.

"Uh, yeah, very cute sir," Zuko pipes up.

"Super cute," Sokka adds.

"Absolutely adorable," Maki quips.

The guard accepts it and walks back towards Chit Sang. "You didn't bow down when I walked by Chit Sang."

"What? That's not a prison rule."

The guard gets in his face with a growl. "Do it."

"Make me."

It's silent for a second before the guard smirks, walking away before turning and making a fire whip aimed directly at Chit Sang. Chit Sang senses it, moving and firebending it right back towards the guard.

The guard disperes it and shakes his head. "Tsk, tsk. Firebending is prohibited. You're going in the Cooler. You two!" he points toward Sokka and Maki. "Help me take him in."

"Meet back here in an hour," Sokka whispers before they leave.

The two plus the firebenders head off to where the cooler is located. The guard stops at a door, and Sokka opens it.

"The Warden will deal with you soon." Chit Sang is shoved inside by the guard, and Sokka shuts the door behind him. "Can you believe this guy?"

"Prisoners. Am I right?"

"Ugh. Tell me about it."

After a little while the Warden comes to talk with Chit Sang then the two are relieved of their duty.

"Alright, let's go meet back up with the scar twins," Sokka says.

They walk out to a landing overhead the prison yard that oversees the prisoners.

Zuko and Shoto walk up after a few minutes.

"Hey there, fellow guard. How goes it?" Zuko awkwardly says.

Sokka pops up his helmet. "Zuko?"

Zuko hushes him. "Shh. Listen, we asked around the lounge. There are no Water Tribe prisoners." He pops up his helmet as well. "I'm afraid your father's not here."

"What? Are you sure? Did you double check?"

"Yeah, I'm sure."

"No. No!" Sokka slams his fists against the wall.

"I'm really sorry, Sokka."

"So we came all this way for nothing. I failed. Again." He turns around and slumps back on the wall.

"Ah, what would uncle say?" Zuko brings his hand to his chin in thought. "Sometimes clouds have two sides, a dark and light. And a silver lining in between. It's like a silver sandwich. So when life seems hard take a bite out of the silver sandwich."

Sokka suddenly perks up, rushing to the edge of the landing. He wraps his hands around the rail. "Maybe we haven't failed after all!"

"That's the spirit. I can't believe that worked. I didn't even know what I was saying."

"No, what you said made no sense at all. But look, it's Suki!" He points out a short haired brunette girl sitting on a rock.

A bell begins to ring, and a guard begins to shout. "Prisoners! Back in your cells!"

Sokka rushes off. The remaining three look at each other before hurriedly following after him.

They manage to find Suki's cell. Sokka goes inside while Zuko guards the door. Shoto and Maki just meander.

~~~
Zuko ends up getting taken for attacking a guard that was trying to get to Suki.
"Sho, you stay with Sokka," Maki says.
"Wait, where're you going?" Sokka and Sho ask.
"I'm gonna go explore," she replies, looking around the base. "Don't worry about me. I'll be fine."
"Why?" Sokka asks confused. "You should stay with us."
"I'm gonna go get some information," she answers. "I'll be good." Before they can respond to her, she's already sunk through the ground to the floor underneath.
Sokka looks at Shoto. "What was that all about?"
He only gets a shrug in response.
Maki listens with her feet, making her way to the warden's office.
"We have a new group of prisoners coming in tonight. Make the preparations," warden tells some guard.
The guard takes a list of names and looks it over. "Yes, sir. I will bring this to Hikono and help her with preparations."
"Good. See to it."
It takes a bit of stalking and planning, but Maki ends up cutting off the guard with the list of arriving criminals.
"You the one bringing me the list for the upcoming delivery?" Maki asks, looking at the man with crossed arms.
"Hikono?" the man questions unable to tell with her helmet.
"That's me," she responds with a nod. She holds out her hand for the list which he gives her. She reads over the names, stopping on one. "Our first waterbender?"
"Appears so."
She hands him the list back. "Continue to the preparations. I'll meet you there."
He nods and off he goes to wherever.
Maki smiles, skipping off to meet the others. It takes a few minutes, but she ends up finding them all together. Sokka and Shoto pretend to stand at watch as Zuko and Suki sweep nearby. Maki moves to stand beside Shoto.
"Maki."
She smiles, hugging Shoto. "I'm back."
"Where'd you go?" Zuko asks.
"And who's this?" Suki asks.
"She's Maki," Sokka says.
"Ah, your betrothed," Suki says, looking at Shoto who nods. "You're really tall."
"Yeah, she's the same height as dad," Sokka says.
"Yeah, Shoto, you're the same size as that Chit Sang dude," Suki says.
"What'd you find out?" Shoto asks, getting back on track. People here are just super short.
"Hakoda."
Sokka perks up. "That's my dad's name."
"Good because he's on the way here. I've found how they get on the island and our way of escape. He's coming at dawn tomorrow. We grab him and go," Maki says. "They come in on a cable car."
"Cable car?" Zuko questions.
"Gondola lift," Shoto suggests, getting a nod of confirmation.
"Alright. I'll show Sho and Sokka where it is. You two grab these two tomorrow and be ready at dawn," Maki says. "I need to go find someone named Hikono."
"Why?" Zuko asks.
"Cause she's one of the tickets outta here," Maki responds.
...
Last night, Maki found Hikono and followed her around to learn her rounds and mannerisms before attacking. She pulled Hikono underground, knocked her out, and left her in a hideaway prison. Maki easily takes her place.
Dawn arrives. Everyone is in position.
Maki, as Hikono, stands beside the warden. Sokka and Shoto are the first two guards standing near where the gondola will stop. Sokka will nod to Shoto when his father exits. Suki and Zuko are nearby, ready to jump from their hiding spots to get on.
The gondola begins to make its way down, placing down after a few minutes.
Turns out the last to leave is Hakoda himself.
Sokka nods and Maki makes her move. She stomps on the ground, and everyone not with them is sunk into the ground up to their necks.
"Hikono?!" the warden shouts up at her.
Maki grins, pulling off her helmet. She shakes her head to settle her unkempt helmet hair. "You thought. Time to get you roped up, warden."
The warden gulps at the look on her face.
"What's going on?" Hakoda asks.
Sokka and Shoto flip their helmets up.
"Dad," Sokka smiles.
Hakoda tears up then blinks and pulls his son into a hug. "Sokka? My son."
Maki uses her quirk to pull their belongings up that they hid away, tossing the bag towards Sokka. She also releases the real Hikono from her entrapment deep in the prison.
Zuko and Suki appear. Zuko with the rope, tying up the warden once Maki pulls him back up. Suki races over to Sokka.
"Let's hurry," Zuko says, finishing the gag over the warden's mouth. "My sister and her two friends are here. They're likely to bring more guards."
"Greaaat!" Sokka groans, throwing his hands up.
Maki scoops the warden over her shoulder. "Alright, let get on the lift."
Suki stares at the girl in awe. "Did she really just lift him with no effort?"
"I'm surprised you're not asking about her hair color," Hakoda voices.
"That was coming next," she says. "I'm still on the lifting him with one arm."
"She's always training," Shoto says. "Compared to her normal this guy is basically a feather."
"Shoto. If you don't marry her, I will," Suki admits.
"Suki!" Sokka huffs as Hakoda laughs.
"What? I'm just saying. That's impressive."
Maki throws the warden onto the lift. Everyone follows behind as Maki goes to the lever.
She gives them a wink and salute as she pulls the lever back then breaks it off.
"Who are you?"
Maki turns to the voice to find three girls.
"No one important."
"Obviously," the black haired girl says as she sends a blast of blue fire at Maki.
Maki is quick to send it back at her with her air quirk. "You must be Azula."
Three girls dodge but pause, eyes widening in shock. Each guard submerged in the ground also look surprised.
"That's impossible," bluefire growls. "How is it possible that you're an airbender?! We killed all of them!"
"Princess Azula, she also earthbended us into the ground," the nearest guard to her says.
"What?! How?!"
Maki shrugs, form shifting defensively.
"Is she going to be okay?" Zuko asks. "My sister and her friends are stronger than they look."
"You saw she just picked the warden up with no struggle, right? She can take 'em," Suki says.
"How is she gonna get on board?" Hakoda asks.
"She can fly," Shoto answers.
"How?" Suki asks.
"She can airbend and earthbend," Sokka answers. "Like he can firebend and uh ice bend."
"What?!"
The brunette girl moves in closer to Maki on her right as the black haired girl with knives creeps up the left.
Maki takes a breath as she shifts into her more sinister looking self. It makes the three girls step back and freeze.
"My my, three against one? That's hardly fair," Maki fake pouts. "Not that it'll matter though."
"Mai, cut the line," Azula orders.
"Princess, the warden is on there!" the guard from before says.
Azula sighs. "And why do I care?"
"Well for starters, he's also my uncle," Mai says.
Azula agitated sighs. "Nevermind then. We'll just go to them. Ty Lee, go ahead. We'll meet you there."
Maki smirks, whipping up her wind to bring Ty Lee back down from the wire. "If you think any of you are going to pass me. Think again."
Ty Lee lands on the ground beside Azula with a grunt of pain.
Azula growls, shifting into a bending stance. "Fine then. You can't possibly take the three of us on at once."
"Who says I can't?" Maki makes a come at me motion with her left hand.
"Fine with me."
Mai and Ty Lee begin their attack as Maki uses her air qualities to easily dodge each knife and pinpointed attack.
"Tai chi, really?" Maki says, casually blinking at Ty Lee. "Mm, not a bad idea.
"That's some girl," Hakoda says, watching as Maki swiftly dodges the attacking three girls. "Tall too."
"I know," Shoto replies.
Azula moves in with blues flames blazing on her hands. Maki puts out each attack with a blast of air, laughing as Azula gets increasingly angry.
Azula yells, running at her only to get cut off by Mai who sends a knife at her. It cuts through a piece of Azula's clothes.
Maki blinks confused.
"What are you doing?!" Azula shouts.
Mai sighs. "Saving the jerk who dumped me."
"Go, dual bender," Ty Lee says.
Maki shrugs, blasting air from beneath herself and flying up to the gondola that's now basically at the top.
"You're incredible," Suki compliments.
Maki sheepishly smiles. "Psh, stawp."
The lift stops at the top, and everyone gets off.
"Sorry warden, your record is officially broken," Hakoda says, waving him off as they leave him in the lift.
They all run up the slight hill.
"Well, we made it out. Now what?" Suki asks.
"Yeah, the balloon we came in on is back there, but it won't fit all of us," Maki says, pointing behind her with her thumb.
"That's definitely outta the plan." Sokka notices Zuko staring out. "Zuko, what are you doing?"
"My sister was on that island."
"Yeah, and she's probably right behind us. So let's not stop."
"What I mean is she must have come here somehow," Zuko says, moving to the edge. He points at a blimp. "There. That's our way out of here."
They all race down, taking out any guards and getting on the blimp. Maki takes out all the tied down ropes with her air quirk and up in the sky they easily go. She makes her way to where everyone is gathered.
"Alright, I'm gonna need to know more about the two of you," Suki smirks, crossing her arms. "Cause I am so lost."
Maki chuckles before telling the two new members their story.
Shoto sneaks off and pulls aside Sokka.
"Shoto?" Sokka questions. "What's wrong?"
"I want you to tell me how to do something."
"Sure! What is it?"
~~~

"What are you doing in this thing? What happened to the war balloon?" Katara asks.

Zuko landed the war blimp on one of the landings of the upside down temple. The group that stayed behind immediately raced up, preparing for a fight until Sokka went out.

"It kind of got left behind," Zuko admits.

"Sounds like a crazy fishing trip," Aang grins.

"Did you at least get some good meat?" Toph asks.

"I did. The best meat of all. The meat of friendship and fatherhood," Sokka smiles.

Suki and Hakoda decide to make that their time for their appearance and walk down the ramp of the blimp.

Katara's eyes water up as she rushes forward. "Dad."

"Hi, Katara."

She hugs him. "How are you here? What is going on? Where did you go?"

"We kind of went to a Fire Nation prison," Sokka admits.

Hakoda grabs Sokka's wrist and pulls him into a family hug.

"Seriously, you guys didn't find any meat?" Toph huffs.

Everyone ends up laughing then each person heads off to do their own thing.

Shoto is the only one who doesn't laugh instead looking at his left hand in thought. Maki is immediately on top of it.

"Sho?" He looks up at Maki's voice. "You okay?"

"Yeah... just thinking. My quirk feels different here... more... controlled?"

"Really? Mine feels basically the same," Maki says. "Maybe a bit easier with my air quirk though. How about you ask Zuko to train you?"

Shoto nods, clutching his hand together and dropping it beside him. He relaxes it as he makes his way over to Zuko who's chatting with Toph. "Zuko."

Zuko looks up. "Shoto? What's up?"

"I wanted to ask if I can join you training Aang? My fire is working differently here, and I wanted to see if moving the particular way you do would make a difference."

"Uh, yeah... it's fine with me," Zuko answers, rubbing the back of his neck. "I would ask Aang too as he is the one I'm training."

Shoto nods and goes to Aang, getting an enthusiastic 'yes.'

"Toph," Maki calls out. "Haru. Rematch all out later after breakfast?"

"Yes!" Toph shouts.

"Sure," Haru nods.

~~~
Toph and Haru grunt in annoyance, falling onto their backs.
"How do you do that so easy?!" Toph shouts, slamming her fists into the ground beside her.
Maki grins, looking down at their defeated forms and putting her hands on her hips. "I've been doing this since I turned 4, and I'm also older than you."
"We're the same age!" Haru huffs.
"Yeah, but I can beat you," Toph scoffs.
Haru rolls his eyes and crosses his arms.
"How about I show you some things?" Maki suggests.
~~~

"You're only able to use fire on the left side of your body?" Zuko asks.

Shoto nods. "Half and half."

Zuko hums. "That does make things a bit more difficult, but still possible. Throw a blast at me."

Shoto doesn't hesitate and sends a flamethrower at Zuko who seemingly cuts through it with his hand, dispersing it.

Shoto's eyes widen. "How?"

"Let me teach you a few things," Zuko says. "You too Aang."

~~~
Maki is currently up in the air, dodging the boulders Haru and Toph are throwing at her.
Toph suddenly freezes, stopping her attack. "We have guests!"
"Huh?" Haru questions, stopping his attack too.
"Intruders!" Toph yells. "We need to go find the others! They're heading towards campfire area! Everyone is there but Zuko, Aang, and Shoto."
Maki lands on the ground to feel what she feels. "Oh, there's no need for alarm. It's Shoto's and my family. We should hurry still though. Don't need another fight breaking out."
"Your father is a giant," Toph says as they all start running.
Maki laughs. "Yeah, our dad's are pretty tall. Especially for your world's standards."
They make it right before anything goes down.
"Maki," her mother, Sora, sighs in relief. "You're here."
"I told you," her father, Daichi, grins. "I sensed her."
The two pull her into a quick hug and forehead kisses.
"Where's my son?!" Enji growls, his flames growing.
The twins come up and tackle their sister in a hug after their parents step back. "We were so worried."
"I can handle myself just fine," Maki manages to say.
"We know."
"Where's Shoto?!"
"He's training his quirk," Maki answers. "So leave him be."
"Uh, Maki?" Sokka calls out. "Who're they?"
"Oh, this is my mom, dad, and two brothers. This is Shoto's dad. And this is who accidentally sent us here, Galaxy."
"Heh... sorry about that kid..." Galaxy apologizes.
Maki waves her off. "I don't mind! I've made new friends!"
"It's been 5 days," Setchi says, pulling his head back to look at her.
"5? It's only been 3 here," Maki says.
"Seems time runs differently," Hayate voices.
"Oh, yeah, that happens all the time with different dimensions, worlds, realities, and parallel universes," Galaxy shrugs. "I'm just glad this wasn't one where we found them years later." She puts her hands up innocently as Endeavor glares at her. "Sorry..."
"So, who are your new friends?" the twins ask.
"Let me introduce everyone."
~~~

Endeavor was getting impatient. He wanted to grab his son and go. He didn't want to hang around in this ancient world of 4 measly element quirks. He was getting annoyed with the small children too. Why were they so small?

"I've had enough being here," Endeavor says. "I'm going to go find my son then we leave, Galaxy." He stalks off, and the three other pro adults follow.

"Your dad's are giants," Sokka whines. "And terrifying."

"Galaxy looks like a spirit with her hair flowing like that," Katara says dreamily.

"How does Shoto's dad do the flames like that on his face?" the Duke asks.

"We should probably go to the three boys," Maki says.

They all follow her.

"Is this really goodbye?" Toph asks a bit sad.

"Looks like it," Maki replies.

"Is everyone in your world that tall?" Haru asks.

"No. Though our number one hero is like three heads bigger than my dad."

"WHAT?!"

They make it to the boys before the adults do.

The three do a series of moves, blasting off fire into the air.

Maki smiles. "Looks like you're having an easier time controlling your fire now."

"Yeah." Shoto agrees once he notices her. "What's goin—when did your brothers get here?"

"It's time for us to go home," she answers. "Our parents are here."

"Hey, otouto," the twins greet with a wave.

Aang's eyes brighten, zipping up to the group. "Are they your brothers?"

"Yep, Setchi and Hayate," Maki says, pointing to each. "Hayate has the air quirk."

Aang smiles then frowns, looking up to Maki. "Does that mean you're leaving us?"

Maki watches his lip tremble and places a hand on his head. "Yeah."

"Already?" Zuko questions.

Maki nods. Aang and Hayate show each other their air elements.

"My father is here?" Shoto asks, earning another nod.

"Yeah! He has a beard made of fire!" Sokka shouts. "How could you forget to mention that?!"

"I'm used to it," Shoto answers with a shrug.

"Fire beard?" Aang and Zuko say confused.

"Shotooo!"

Everyone turns to find Endeavor and the other pros.

"You weren't kidding," Zuko says upon seeing the flaming beard.

Aang's eyes shine.

"Now that we found you, we can leave this inferior world," Enji huffs. "Let's go. Galaxy."

She salutes, snapping a portal open beside them.

"Whoa," the Gaang gasps in awe.

Toph hugs Maki's leg. "I don't want you to leave yet. I wanna fight more."

Maki laughs, gently patting the girl's head. "Maybe we can arrange something with Galaxy."

Galaxy winces. "Oo, I don't really know... My quirk is basically a constantly moving cosmos, so finding this particular universe will be a bit hard after some time. The only reason I found it is because the two of you were here. You kinda stick out like a sore thumb when you're in the wrong universe."

"Uhn..." the Gaang slumps.

"But! Now that I know of this place, it'll be a bit easier to find at least," Galaxy adds, trying to cheer them up.

"Well, that's better than nothing," Sokka says. "We'll miss you guys. Thanks for the help."

Maki goes around hugging everyone while Shoto mainly nods at everyone.

"Thanks for teaching us," Haru says as he pulls back from the hug.

"No problem," Maki smiles, heading over to the portal.

Endeavor is the first across, tired of waiting. The adult Iwase's go next with a wave. The twins go next.

Shoto gives a bow. "Goodbye." He waves before going through too.

"It was fun to meet all of you," Maki says. "Hopefully, we can see each other again someday."

"Next time, I'll beat you," Toph says.

Maki grins. "Looking forward to it." She waves then enters the portal with Galaxy following behind her.

The portal closes once Galaxy is through. They come out in the hero agency belonging to Hawks.

"Looks like the retrieval mission was a success," Hawks says, seeing everyone in one piece.

"Yes," Sora answers. "Thank you for letting us meet here."

"Well, Galaxy is my partner, so it only makes sense," Hawks replies.

"You're a day into your internships," Endeavor speaks up. "Shoto, you're interning with me."

"We set you up with Miruko," Daichi tells his daughter. "That alright with you?"

Maki nods excitedly. "Awesome!"
