Driving & Memories
Dean's eyes stayed on the road as he drove the impala, going a little over the speed limit on the back road.
He felt himself beginning to get tired, but he pushed it back. He lightly rubbed at his face before he yawned, shaking his head slightly to sort of shake it off.
Dean glanced over at Alison who was asleep with her head against the window of the passenger seat. He couldn't help but smile a little at his daughter who looked peaceful for once.
He looked back to the road before stretching in his seat as much as possible without speeding up or slowing down. He sighed when he settled back in his seat, and he continued driving.
After about thirty minutes, Dean noticed Alison raise her head, inhaling deeply as her hands immediately went to her face, rubbing her eyes.
She let her head fall back against the seat and she was quiet as her eyes watched the road ahead of them. Alison then yawned, and as she did she stretched as much as she could in the passenger seat. One she was awake, she was awake. So there was really no point in trying to fall back asleep.
She lightly sniffled as she sat up straight, looking over at her father who was driving. His eyes looked very tired, and there was no way he wasn't exhausted.
The radio was playing quietly. Dean was lightly tapping his thumb against the steering wheel to the tune of the song, but Alison knew it was his tactic to keep himself awake.
She slightly looked back over her shoulder to see Sam clunked out in the backseat, with his back against the door and his legs across the seat. His head rested against the seat.
Alison looked back to Dean.
She knew he'd been driving for hours.
"Dad, why don't you let me drive for a bit?" She finally asked him.
Dean glanced over at her then back at the road, inhaling deeply.
"It's fine, Ali." He said, switching hands on the wheel to hold his right hand out to his daughter.
"It's not fine. You're tired, I can see it. You need sleep too." She told him, grasping onto his hand and holding it.
Dean gave a small sigh, glancing over at the girl.
"I'll drive, dad." Alison stated.
Dean looked over at her then he reluctantly pulled over to the side of the road, but before he got out so they could switch spots he turned to Alison, making her look at him.
"As soon as you start getting tired, you wake me up. Do you understand me?" He told her sternly, and she nodded.
Dean hesitantly got out and Alison did the same. She sat in the drivers seat while dean sat in the passenger seat.
Alison put the car in drive and started down the road, not even two minutes later she heard dean snoring softly. She chuckled and turned the radio up just a tiny bit, not loud enough to disturb Sam or dean.
As the current song was ending, one of Alisons favorite songs came on, Bed of roses by Bon Jovi. She sang along quietly as she continued down the road.
Alison loved driving. She loved when Dean would let her take the impala out just to go for a drive. She enjoyed how calming and peaceful it was, and she normally did it to clear her head.
She felt comfortable in the impala. She had an attachment to that car.
Everyone had an attachment to the impala, and it was mostly because the whole family grew up in it. Sam, Dean, and Alison all grew up on the road, in the impala. It was the most special thing that belonged to the Winchesters, and most everyone who knew them knew that.
There were still things that hadn't been fixed in that car from back when the boys were kids. Alison grew up listening to legos rattle when the air conditioner was on.
She grew up with 'teddy bear stuffing' stuffed into one side the seat, because it was her "Bear's blood donation stash." She grew up with the backseat being uneven because of the amount of stuffing she had stuffed in through a small hole in the side of the left window seat when she was younger.
She thought it was funny now because the stuffing came from the right window seat. She had pretty much just transferred the stuffing, and now one side was a bit higher than the other.
She grew up with an army man sticking up out of the ashtray.
Or at least for a bit, she did. She remembered when Dean had tried to get it out, and he only ended up breaking the dude, so all that was left was army guy legs. But it was okay, because all three of them knew it had been there, and well, there was still some of him left.
There were too many memories in that car, it was hard not to be attached to it.
Alison would never forget the first time Dean taught her how to change a tire on Baby. Mostly because Dean said he would change it for her until he was dead, but that wasn't the most reliable nor comforting thing Dean could say, considering.
Alison had watched Dean change many tires on Baby before, but at the ripe age of five and a half, Dean actually taught her. It was one of the first times she really felt proud of herself, and Dean could tell too.
The impala was home, and so therefore it was easy to feel safe in it.
Maybe that's why Alison still spent so much time in it.
After a few hours of driving, the sun was starting to come out. Alison glanced up in the rearview mirror, then she looked over to Dean who was still snoring against the window.
She then heard a small groan from the backseat, making her glance back over her shoulder to see Sam sitting up, rubbing his neck.
"Good morning, Rupunzel." She spoke up.
Sam quietly groaned in response making Alison chuckle a little.
"Sleep good?" She asked.
"What do you think?" Sam questioned.
"From the way you were catching flies, I'd say pretty good." Alison said.
Sam playfully rolled his eyes at the girl. He leaned over the seat slightly to look at Dean who looked pretty peaceful. Sam hummed.
"What?" Alison asked.
"You know, you guys do the same thing when you sleep." Sam said. "You cross your arms like that, and you snore." He stated, looking over at her.
"I do not snore." Alison furrowed her brows.
"Yeah, you do." Sam stated, lightly scoffing as he plopped back into the seat.
"Do not." Alison argued.
"Do too."
Alison stayed quiet for a moment, Sam raised a brow at her.
"Do not."
"Do too."
