Ch 12: The Bomb

No One's POV

"Jinnie..."

And Han couldn't even bring himself to say anything else. Hyunjin was here, the same Hyunjin he'd known since he was little was here of all places. There were too many emotions, he was ecstatic that he wasn't alone and could share his pain with someone but...how was he here?

Hyunjin himself wasn't faring much better, he hadn't seen Han in years, let alone anyone else that familiar.

Time froze between them, mouths open, words yearning to be spoken, but neither had it in them to bring out anything. They couldn't even move.

Tears had begun to streak down Hyunjin's face and it caused Han to snap out of their little slow-motion bubble and shatter back into reality. He ran at Hyunjin, crushing him. All he wanted to envelope him. Hyunjin was everything. Hyunjin was home, Hyunjin was family, Hyunjin was familiar.

Hyunjin held Han with the same ferocity, after making sure he didn't tip over. Hyunjin hugged Han because home had come back to him when he didn't even think it was possible. He was confused beyond his mind, but there wasn't time to be confused when his best friend was here with him after eons. A small part of him wondered if maybe, just maybe Han was here to take him back home where he belonged. That maybe he wasn't so alone and forgotten after all. So he hugged tighter, even after Han stopped squeezing him, he hugged.

The rest of the living room froze too because no one could understand what was just happening. Of course, Hyunjin and Han knew each other but it was obvious that this was more than just a reunion of tears after years of being apart. There was something extra in the hug that Hyunjin and Han shared that had the whole room thinking of their own explanations.

Hyunjin and Han separated eventually and there was so much they both wanted to ask each other, but instantly both of their eyes wandered around the room and they knew that this wasn't the right place to ask those questions.

The rest of the gang realized that Hyunjin and Han weren't going to have any more of a moment in front of them and reluctantly didn't ask any questions. Chan, ever the one to take the fall, broke the silence after clearing his throat.

"Wow! It's a small world isn't it! I can't believe you two know each other from before."

Chan beckoned Felix, Hyunjin, and Han to find a seat, as Hyunjin and Han stumbled to reply to Chan. After similar forced chuckles, Hyunjin was able to reply, "Yeah. Me and Hannie go way back. I can't actually believe that I was able to see him again."

The first thing Han processed was how weird it was for Hyunjin to not be speaking Patherion's language. Earth language did seem to fit him well, but it would definitely take a while to get used to.

After the three sat down, an awkward silence filled the room. Lee Know, Seungmin, and IN did not know if they should ask what they wanted to. IN mouthed words to Hyunjin as inconspicuously as possible (it was obvious) What was that?

Hyunjin, even in his frazzled state, put up with his antics and mouthed back Tell you later. He answered Seungmin's raised brow with a tired look and the three stayed silent.

Changbin, however, was not going to let this one go. Changbin remembered the incident with Minho but despite himself, he wanted to push boundaries right now. He didn't know why he was feeling so irritable all of a sudden. He had told himself he wanted to give Han space, but if Hyunjin knew everything about Han then there was nothing to hide anymore right? Han and Hyunjin could both share their stories freely.

So he asked, "Speaking of, how do you guys know each other?"

Han instantly looked nervous all of a sudden, what to say? He let Hyunjin take the lead on this one.

"We were family friends. My dad was like best friends with his dad and we hung out a lot because of it."

Changbin wanted more, and Hyunjin could tell that too, but he was confused. Why was changing acting so intrusive all of a sudden.

Hyunjin wasn't the only one who noticed Changbin's off target behavior, Chan leveled a glare at Changbin's head making sure he felt it. Changbin was not the kind of person that had trouble reading the room, this was on purpose.

Frankly, Chan thought it was none of their business and he trusted that Hyunjin would deal with whatever caused them to crush each other while hugging. Plus, from the beginning, Han seemed a little wary of everybody and knowing someone previously might help him open up to them more. Wasn't that what Changbin wanted?

Felix was very confused. All he'd been told was that they'd be meeting someone knew today so he baked some cookies for everyone, but how did a get together turn from yearnful hugs to controlled glares and tight-lipped conversations. Then he realized.

"Hey guys! I made some cookies for everyone once I knew we were meeting someone knew. So how about we enjoy them?"

Chan made an affirmative happy noise and lets Felix distribute them.

As Felix reaches Han, he also introduces himself. "Oh also, my name is Felix but you can call me lix!" Felix rested the cookie in Han's hands and flashed him a smile.

"I'm Han Jisung, buy you can call me Hannie too. Nice to meet you," he said a little shyly and Felix beamed in response.

Han took this as permission to eat the "cookie" the Felix had brought. It was a patterned food, which surprised Han. A brown circle with black uneven dots. Before he had taken bites of Earth food slowly, but since the size of the cookie was small, Han bit it in half instead.

The taste reminded him a little of the cheesecake he had with Minho, though that was still better. It was definitely dryer than the cheesecake and a lot less cold, but Han wolfed it down the same.

"This is so good Felix!" Han exclaimed to the baker. Felix flushed, rubbing his nape shyly,
"it's no biggie..."

Felix gave Han another cookie to enjoy and took one for himself. The rest of the room was also enjoying their cookies. Seungmin, Innie, and Changbin were getting thirds as well. The tension in the room decreased greatly after Felix gave everybody cookies and it was lot easier to speak.

"Hey Hannie, do you like this more than cheesecake?" asked Minho teasingly.

Han's mouthful was full so he just shook his head profusely. That go a chuckle out of everybody and then the conversation flowed more naturally. Felix began mentioning what he could make as a baker and what he couldn't and Han had learned that Minho as well was very good at making food. Of course, he didn't know how the foods they listed tasted, but his brain provided him with "useful" pictures so he was absolutely fixated on each word. He almost forgot about the tension and even Hyunjin from before.

Almost.

While eating, people moved around a lot to lay down on each other or share cookies so Han found the seat next to him empty. At least it was the last time he checked. He alerts when something pushes against at his lips, trying to focus and see what it was beyond his nose. It was a cookie. He turned next to him and it was Hyunjin holding out a chunk of his third (fourth?) cookie

He smiled and took it. He forgot Hyunjin was there and in the moment of re-realization, he leaned against Hyunjin's frame melting into it. It did not feel as familiar as before, but Han knew that this was the same Hyunjin that he knew and that made him feel a lot calmer.

Hyunjin, ever the sentimental, started tearing up already, but he leaned in as well and willed his insistent tears not to fall and make it embarrassing.

The rest of the group noticed the two boy's moment and kept the conversation going to give them privacy. Or at least tried to, with small period of silences and frantic brain searches for something to talk about.

Chan, after seeing their moment, decided that maybe it was time for everyone to home and for Hyunjin and Han to catch up with each other.

"Hey guys. I think it's getting late, isn't it? Time flies when you're having fun...how about we all go home now."

The rest nodded and Seungmin stood up to stretch, adding in a comment, "Don't say stuff like that, are you trying to make yourself sound like you're going through a mid-life crisis?"

Chan pouted, but he was a trained veteran in this war, he knew no comeback could ever prepare for whatever Seungmin would have next, so he didn't argue.

Changbin looked at Chan, and though Chan felt his glare, he didn't acknowledge it. Changbin didn't want Hyunjin and Han to catch up on their own. Weren't they all friends? Couldn't they catch up in front of them, wouldn't that be more fun as well? He made sure to do something about it.

"Hey Hannie, do you want me to drop you at the bench?"

Han thought about it. He doesn't have a problem, but he needs to be able to tall to Hyunjin alone. But if Han took Hyunjin beyond the bench and to the ship, wouldn't Changbin feel terrible? Han really didn't like choosing between people. Changbin had helped him so much but Hyunjin...

"Don't worry about it Binnie. I'll drop Sungie where he needs to be. We can also catch up while we're at it." Hyunjin had answered for them to Han's relief.

Changbin looked like he wanted to argue, but Chan came behind him and put a hand on his shoulder. "That's a great idea. Have fun you two!" Chan said as he lead the other two towards the door so that they could go.

When he came back, he asked everyone else as well, "Does anyone need me to drop them home too?"

Minho was walking home, but Seungmin, Felix, and IN were all riding in Chan's car so they got their belonging and left. Before Chan left, Changbin made sure to stop Chan and question him.

"Why'd you stop me?"

Chan internally sighed. Changbin was a sweet soul, but he was really protective sometimes. "Binnie, Hyunjin and Han are friends. They should get some time to catch up with each other."

"Just because Hyunjin and Han are friends, that doesn't mean me and Han aren't. I can walk with them and listen to them too. Why can't I?"

Chan softened his tone to reason with him. "Binnie, Han's not going to stop being friends with you now that he and Hyunjin have met. You know that right? You were such a great friend for Han, there's no way he'd abandon you like that. Just let them have today and you'll see, he'll be right back with us tomorrow."

Changbin didn't say anything, but he stopped tensing his shoulders and he nodded, leaving towards his room. He probably had to work out his emotions, Changbin usually never enters his room for long. Chan sighed out loud now. He hoped Changbin would be okay. He also hoped that Hyunjin and Han would too. I mean of course they were friends so it's not like anything bad could happen right...?

"CHANNIE HYUNG HURRY UP YOU OLD MAN" Jeongin yelled from the car

Chan did not ever get a break. He sighed once again with an eye roll this time (gotta keep up the variety) and he left towards the car.

{With Hyunjin and Han}

Hyunjin and Han held hands as they walked towards Han's ship, waiting until they were a decent amount away from civilization to talk to each other.

When they arrived at a more secluded area, they turned to each other, but neither could get any words out and they both started giggling.

When they both calmed down, they tried talking. Hyunjin started "So tell my why you're here?"

"Me! Why don't you tell me why you're here?" Han argues, absolutely curious and desperate to know.

Hyunjin didn't think he could get it out of himself without hearing Han out first, this was a fight he wouldn't lose, "No I asked you first."

Han yielded at that. There was no harm in going first, as long as Hyunjin would tell his side.

So he went on, he started at when Hyunjin left. All his life, Hyunjin grew up alongside Han. Han a prince and Hyunjin his supposed future first knight, but even though Hyunjin was great at being a knight, he always wanted to follow his father's path of being a scout. Scout were a part of the king's repertoire and they traveled to different places to gain information. Sometimes it was in the same planet and sometimes it was across planets.

The adventure of it all had always called Hyunjin and Hyunjin can remember how terrible he felt when he didn't want to be Han's knight anymore. Hyunjin and Han were usually the type of friends who screamed at each other one day and suffocated each other in hugs the next, but that issue made Han and Hyunjin fight for such a long time. Han didn't want Hyunjin to leave his side, but Hyunjin was his own person with his own decisions. Han wanted to stay locked up in a castle and Hyunjin couldn't bear living a life like that.

So they fought and fought after that, small little fires spreading after an explosion. No one thought Hyunjin and Han would ever care for each other again, but the date of Hyunjin's departure was nearing and Han and Hyunjin couldn't leave each other with their mess of a friendship.

So they came with a compromise, Hyunjin could go wherever he wanted, but he'd have to come back and see Han when he could. They promised that it wasn't going to be the last time they saw each other.

After Hyunjin left, Han became pretty bored at the castle and left to his own devices, he retreated to perfecting his hobbies and other skills he needed as a prince. He wrote a lot while him and Hyunjin fought, but he tried to make up for the angry words after Hyunjin left. He also practice his weapon handling though he tried not to do it too much because he tended to leave the practice yard in too much disarray.

Hyunjin laughed at that.

Han continued, but there was a gap in his memories, He remembered going to bed one day and then he woke up on Vera and he was headed here. He told Hyunjin all of this and Hyunjin instantly paled in his human form.

"Wait, what happened?"

"Which part? The part where I woke up on the ship, the part where I crashed on this planet? The ship's broken too so I can't contact anyone or get back or anything?" Han questioned. It felt nice to finally be complaining to someone about his situation in it's entirety.

"Jisung... I need to tell you something..." Hyunjin looked very serious all of a sudden, but it was very obvious that he was on the verge of tears. That made Han worry.

"...What?" he asked wearily.

"Jisung...

Patherion is gone...we're the last ones."
