~Bugs (Part two)~

August babbled quietly as she kicked her feet, Dean kept his hand in her grasp to keep her calm.

"So you two are students?" The professor asked as he walked towards them.

"Yeah. Yeah, uh, we're in your class. Anthro 101." Sam said as they got up and came over to him.

"Oh, yeah." The man nodded.

"So what about the bones, professor?" Dean asked.

"This is quite an interesting find you've made. I'd say they're 170 years old, give or take. The timeframe and the geography heavily suggest Native American." The professor told them.

"Were there any tribes or reservations on that land?" Sam asked.

"Not according to the historical record but the, uh, relocation of Native peoples was quite common at that time." He said.

"Right." Sam nodded. "Well, are there any local legends oral histories about the area?" He asked.

"Well, you know, there's a...there's Euchee tribe in Sapulpa. It's about 60 miles from here. Someone out there might know the truth." The professor stated.

"Alright." Dean said as he and sam looked at each other.

~~~
Dean pulled the impala into the parking lot of a small diner. He had to stop and get directions on where to go.
Dean carried August in the harness as they walked into the diner. The brothers looked around, and spotted the man they had come to speak with.
They started towards him.
"Joe Whitetree?" Sam asked making the man look up at him and nod. "We'd like to ask you a few questions if that's alright?"
"We're students from the university." Dean told him.
"No, you're not. You're lying." Joe stated.
Sam and Dean looked at each other.
"Um, well, truth is—"
"You know who starts sentence with truth is? Liars." The man said, cutting Dean off.
Dean looked over at Sam.
"Have you heard of Oasis Plains?" Sam asked the man. "It's a housing development near the Atoka Valley."
Joe looked up at Dean.
"I like him. He's not a liar." He stated.
Dean looked down at August who was grinning.
"I know the area." Joe nodded.
"What can you tell us about the history there?" Sam asked.
"Why do you wanna know?" Joe questioned them.
"Something, something bad...is happening in Oasis Plains. We think it might have something to do with some old bones we found down there." Sam told him. "Native American bones."
"I'll tell you what my grandfather told me, what his grandfather told him." Joe said. "Two hundred years ago a band of my ancestors lived in that valley. One day, the American Calvary came to relocate them. They were resistant. Calvary, impatient. As my grandfather put it on a night of the moon and the sun shared the sky as equals the Calvary first raided our village. They murdered, raped. The next day, the Calvary came again and the next and the next." He told them.
The brothers glanced at each other.
"And on the sixth night, the Calvary came one last time and by the time the sun rose every man, woman and child still in the village was dead."
Deans arms tightened around his daughter a little.
"They say on the sixth night as the chief of the village lay dying he whispered to the heavens that no white man would ever tarnish this land again. Nature would rise up and protect the valley and it would bring as many days of misery and death to the white man as the Calvary had brought upon his people." Joe said.
"Insects. Sounds like nature to me." Dean stated to his brother. "Six days?" He asked the man.
"And on the night of the sixth day none would survive." He said.
Dean slightly furrowed his brows.
After thanking Joe for his time, the Winchesters headed out of the small diner.
"When did the gas company man die?" Sam asked.
"Uh, let's see. We got here Tuesday, so Friday the 20th." Dean told him.
"That's the spring equinox." Sam stated.
"The night the sun and the moon share the sky as equals." Dean said, letting August smack her hands against his.
"So every year about this time anybody in Oasis Plains is in danger." Sam stated. "Larry built this neighborhood on cursed land."
"And on the sixth night, that's tonight." Dean said.
"If we don't do something Larry's family will be dead by sunrise." Sam stated as he walked to the passenger side of the impala. "So how do we break a curse?"
"You don't break a curse. You get out of its way. We got to get those people out now." Dean said, opening the back car door.
~~~

Dean sped down the road as August quietly whined in the backseat.

"Yes, Mr. Pike, there's a main line gas leak in your neighborhood." Dean said on the phone with Larry.

"God, really? And how big?" Larry asked.

"Well, it's fairly extensive." Dean stated. "I don't wanna alarm you, but, uh, we need your family out of the vicinity for at least 12 hours or so just to be safe."

Sam looked over at Dean.

"And who is this again?" Larry asked.

"Travis Weaver." Dean told him. "I work for Oklahoma Gas and Power."

"Uh-huh. Well, the problem is, I know Travis. He's worked with us for a year. So who is this?" Larry said.

"Uh..." Dean trailed off and quickly flipped his phone shut, hanging up on the man.

"Give me the phone." Sam said as he took the phone out of Deans hand.

Sam opened it and began dialing a number.

He put it to his ear and waited until someone picked up.

"Hello?" Matt answered.

"Matt, its Sam." Sam said making Dean look over at him.

"Sam, my backyards crawling with cockroaches." Matt told him.

"Matt, just listen, you have to get your family out of that house right now, okay?" Sam said.

"What? Why?" Matt questioned him.

"Because somethings coming." Sam stated.

"More bugs."

"Yeah, a lot more."

"My dad doesn't listen in the best of circumstances. What am I supposed to tell him?" Matt asked.

"You gotta make him listen, okay?" Sam told him.

Dean looked over at Sam and made a face.

"Give me the phone. Give me the phone!" He said, reaching over and taking the phone from Sam.

Dean put the phone to his ear.

"Matt, under no circumstances are you to tell the truth. He'll just think you're nuts." Dean stated to him.

"But-but he's my—"

"Tell him you have a sharp pain in your right side and you gotta go to the hospital, okay?" Dean told him.

"Yeah. Yeah, okay." Matt said, then hung up.

Dean flipped his phone shut, and looked over at Sam again before looking back to the road.

"Make him listen? What are you thinking?" He questioned him.

~~~
Dean pulled the impala in front of the house only to see all the lights still on inside.
"Damn it, they're still here. Come on." He turned off the car, and got out, leaving August in the car.
Sam followed after his brother.
They started up towards the house and Larry came out before they could even reach the porch.
"Get off my property before I call the cops!" Larry told them as Matt came out behind him.
"Mr. Pike, listen." Sam started.
"Dad, they're just trying to help." Matt said to his father.
"Get in the house!" Larry yelled at his son.
"S-sorry. I told him the truth." Matt told the Winchesters.
"We had a plan, Matt. What happened to the plan?" Dean questioned the boy.
"Look, it's 12:00 am. They are coming any minute now." Sam told them. "You need to get your family and go before it's too late."
"Oh, yeah, you mean before the biblical swarm." Larry said sarcastically.
"Larry, what do you think really happened to that Realtor, huh?" Dean questioned the man. "And the gas company guy? You don't think something weirds going on around here?"
"Look, I don't know who you are, but you're crazy." Larry stated. "You come near my boy or my family again, we're gonna have a problem."
"Well, I hate to be a downer, but we got a problem right now." Dean stated.
"Dad, they're right. We're in danger." Matt told his father.
"Matt, get inside!" Larry yelled.
"No!" Matt yelled back.
"Now!"
"Why won't you listen to me?" Matt asked.
"Because this is crazy! It doesn't make any sense!" Larry stated.
"Look, this land is cursed. People have died here. Now are you really gonna take that risk with your family?" Sam questioned Larry.
"Wait." Dean said. "You hear it?"
The four looked up as they heard insects buzzing, getting closer. The bug zapper hanging up on the porch started going off repeatedly.
"What the hell?" Larry asked.
"Alright, it's time to go. Larry, get your wife. Sam." Dean started.
Larry turned and started rushing up the stairs.
"Guys." Matt stopped them.
They turned and looked to the sky where there was a massive swarm of bugs coming towards them.
"Oh, my god." Larry said.
"We'll never make it." Sam said.
"Everybody in the house. Everybody in the house. Go!" Dens yelled and rushed to the car, throwing open the back door, and quickly getting August out of her car seat.
He slammed the door back and rushed up the stairs with the baby, into the house. Sam closed the door behind his brother and niece.
"Is there anyone else in the neighborhood?" Sam asked them.
"No, it's just us." Larry said.
August started whining making Dean look down at her.
"Hey, hey, it's okay. Daddy's right here, you're okay." He gently bounced her in his arms.
"Honey, what's happened? What's that noise?" Joanie came into the room.
"Call 911." Larry told her.
Joanie just stood there, staring at the ceiling.
"Joanie!" Larry yelled.
"Okay." Joanie nodded, and went to go call 911.
"I need towels." Dean told them.
"Uh, in the closet." Larry said, walking towards the closet.
Dean followed after Larry with August still in his arms.
"Alright, we gotta lock this place up,
Come on." Sam told Matt. "Doors, windows, fireplace, everything, okay?" He said as they started rushing up the stairs.
"Phones are dead." Joanie told them.
"They must have chewed through the phone lines." Dean said as he walked towards the door, shoving a towel under the bottom of it.
The electricity started crackling and the lights turned off.
August started whining again.
"And the power lines." Dean added to his last statement.
"Maybe my cell." Larry said and rushed to get his phone.
He turned it on and shook his head.
"No signal." He stated.
"You won't get one. They're blanketing the house." Dean said, gently patting Augusts back, trying to calm her down.
Sam and Matt came back downstairs and stood beside everyone. Dean furrowed his brows, watching all the bugs fly onto the window, covering every inch of it.
"So what do we do now?" Larry asked them.
"We try to outlast it." Sam said. "Hopefully, the curse will end at sunrise."
"Here, hold her." Dean said, passing his baby to Sam.
"Where are you going?" Sam asked as Dean started into the kitchen, not answering him.
"Hopefully?" Larry questioned Sam.
After a moment, Dean came back with a can of bug spray.
"Bug spray?" Joanie questioned him.
"Trust me." Dean told her.
August whined and reached for Dean.
They all turned as they heard creaking coming from the fireplace.
"What is that?" Matt asked.
Sam furrowed his brows as he gently pushed Augusts head into his neck.
"The flue." He said making Dean glance at him.
"Alright, I think everybody needs to get upstairs." Dean said.
Joanie gasped as a loud noise came from the fire place, then a bunch of bugs came flying out of it.
"Go!" Dean yelled.
Everyone was screaming, trying to get the bugs off of them.
Dean then got out his lighter and lit it, holding it up. He put the can of bug spray behind it, and began spraying the can, making a big flame appear.
"Everybody upstairs now! Go! Go! Go! Go!" Dean yelled to them.
Everyone started rushing up the stairs and Dean stayed behind them, trying to fight off the insects.
The group ran upstairs, August had started to cry. Dean was the last to crawl up into the attic, and Sam slammed the door shut behind him.
"August." Dean breathed out, going to his baby. "It's okay, you're okay." He gently stroked her hair as she was still in Sam's arms.
"Oh, god. What's that?" Joanie asked as they heard something in the ceiling, coming through the wood.
"Somethings eating through the wood." Dean stated.
"Termites." Matt said.
Sam turned and gave August to Matt, so he and Dean could do what they needed to. It wasn't exactly easy with a baby in their arms.
"Alright, everybody, get back." Dean told them and they backed up into the corner.
Larry put himself in front of them, protecting them.
The termites ate through the wood, and made a huge hole in the ceiling. Bug then started coming in.
Sam and Dean grunted as they hit at the bugs. Dean then started using his bug spray flame on them again.
Both of them then was able to place a piece of metal up against the hole, and keep it in place with a post.
Dean furrowed his brows and looked over as the termites began chewing another hole in the ceiling. They started flying into the room again, and Dean was using his bug spray flame.
Sam made his way over to the rest of the group and started covering them.
Another hole appeared in the ceiling, and once again, more bugs, tons of bugs, started coming into the attic. Dean lit the flame, but it only lasted for a few seconds before it ran out.
"Ah, crap." Dean threw the can.
He went over to everyone else, and started doing what his brother was doing. Covering them.
They all stayed huddled up together before they noticed the bugs were beginning to fly out of the attic through the holes they had made.
"Look!" Sam said.
They all looked up as light began to shine into the room, the bugs still exiting the home.
Sam and Dean stood up as the room was no longer filled with insects. They walked towards the holes in the ceiling, looking out of them.
They saw the swarm flying away.
Dean let out a breath and looked back as he heard August crying, Matt trying to calm her down.
"Auggie." He rushed towards them, and Matt gladly gave the baby to her father. "Its okay, baby. I got you, daddy's here." He gently bounced her in his arms, kissing her head.
August finally started to calm down.
~~~

The impala rolled to a stop in front of the Pike house, where everyone was packing their stuff into a moving van.

The Winchesters got out of the car, Dean getting August out of her car seat. They walked across the street towards the family.

"What? No goodbye?" Dean asked them.

"Good timing. Another hour and we'd have been gone." Larry said.

"For good?" Dean asked as he shook the man's hand.

"Yeah." Larry said, shaking Sam's hand after Deans. "The, uh, developments been put on hold while the government investigates those bones you found. But I'm gonna make damn sure no one lives here again." Larry told them.

"You don't seem too upset about it." Sam stated.

"Well, this has been the biggest financial disaster of my career, but..." he trailed off as he looked to his son. "Somehow...I really don't care."

Dean smirked a little, gently patting Augusts back as she had her pacifier in her mouth.

Sam smiled.

He then turned and walked to Matt who was throwing all of his bug stuff away.

"What's this?" Sam asked him.

"I don't know. They kind of weird me out now." Matt stated making Sam laugh.

"Yeah, I should hope so." He said.

Matt smiled and chuckled.

Dean sighed as he leaned against the impala with August. He looked down at her as she looked up at him with big blue eyes.

"I'm gonna have to get you some emotional therapy after all this, huh?" He asked her making her smile and laugh, her baby teeth peering from behind her pacifier.

Dean smiled at her and chuckled, then looking up as Sam was walking back towards them.

Sam leaned against the impala, looking back to Matt and Larry who were talking together.

"I wanna find dad." He spoke up after a moment.

"Yeah, me too." Dean nodded.

"Yeah, but I just...I wanna apologize to him." Sam said, Dean looked over at him.

"For what?" Dean asked.

"All the things I said to him. He was just doing the best he could." Sam said.

Dean nodded his head a little.

"Well, don't worry, we'll find him." He said. "And you'll apologize, and then within five minutes you guys will be at each other's throats."

Sam laughed.

"Yeah, probably." He nodded. "Let's hit the road." He leaned off the impala.

"Let's." Dean smirked and passed the baby to Sam.

Sam smiled at August as she reached up to his face, putting her tiny hands on his cheeks. Sam chuckled a little making August grin.

Sam kissed her cheek and opened her car door, putting her in her car seat and buckling her in. He closed her door back and got into the passenger seat, next to Dean who was already in the drivers seat.

Dean started up the engine as Sam closed his door.

August quietly babbled away as Dean then sped down the road.
