Avalanche

"Okay, guys, say hello to my latest invention the Cryo-Blaster!" Davenport announced, holding a device that looked like a handheld vacuum. "This thing can freeze anything in a nanosecond.

Freya clapped, pretending to be shocked. "Bravo! You made ice!"

Davenport rolled his eyes. "No, I invented a way for astronauts to travel to distant galaxies while frozen in suspended animation."

"Which is a fancy way of saying 'ice.'" Leo remarked and Freya raised her eyebrows with smirk, leaning on the cyber desk next to Leo.

Davenport grunted and took Adam's drink out of his hand. "All right, here, let me demonstrate."

Leo and Freya moved away as Davenport put the cup on the cyber desk.

"You guys might want to step back because the rag from the Cryo-Blaster freezes everything it touches." Davenport explained and Adam, Bree, and Chase moved away from the cyber desk.

Davenport pointed the Cryo-Blaster at the cup and blasted it. Rays of ice hit the cup and it froze completely.

Leo walked to the cyber desk. "Can someone please tell this man that he's making ice?"

Davenport sighed and walked over to the cyber desk. "Look, every space program in the world is gonna want one of these. I just need the elements to fuel them: Cytanium." Davenport piled up a digital map of Antarctica. "And it's only found here. I'm sending you on a mission to the most remote part of Antarctica."

"As opposed to bustling downtown Antarctica?" Bree questioned.

"No worries, Mr. Davenport. We've been to way worse places than Antarctica," Chase mentioned.

"Oh, yeah, remember Bakersfield?" Adam chuckled and they groaned, minus Freya.

"Do I even want to know?" Freya asked Leo, who shook his head.

"You do not."

"Look with your bionics you should be able to swoop in and-"

Davenport got cut off by the cyber desk beeping and on the digital map showed a major storm was being detected. A category five storm.

"There's a massive storm headed there," Davenport informed.

"So, who cares? We just dealt with a storm," Chase shrugged.

"No. This is a category five. It's much more dangerous," Davenport protested and shook his head. "I can't believe I'm saying this. I'm gonna have to call off the mission."

"What? No!" Chase protested. "There's plenty of time before the center of the storm hits."

Freya folded her arms, confused as to why Chase was so against canceling the mission. Of all people, Chase would agree that it would be too dangerous. Freya wasn't understanding.

"It's just not worth the risk," Davenport reasoned and walked around the cyber desk. "I just hope the storm doesn't collapse the glacier."

"But if that happens, you'll lose the Cytanium forever," Chase protested.

Davenport nodded sadly. "I know."

Davenport began to leave, but Chase continued to object.

"But we can do this!"

Davenport was already out the door and Bree scoffed to her brother.

"Stand down, Flash Glue! You heard the man. No one is going. Not even hustle and muscle!"

"Yeah!" Adam mumbled with his tongue stuck on the ice that incased his cup. "And muscle could use some help."

Freya rolled her eyes and went up to Adam. She ripped the ice off his tongue and he groaned in pain.

"AHH! Ah, that hurt!" Adam frowned. "Great, now I need some ice."

Adam stuck his tongue out and put the ice block back on his tongue. "That's so much better."

Freya rolled her eyes, rubbing her forehead. At this point, Freya isn't surprised by what Adam does.

Adam, Bree, and Leo walked out. Freya went to follow, but stopped she saw Chase still standing there. She folded her arms and gave Chase a look.

"Whatever you are thinking, you better stop." Freya told him. "Don't go doing anything stupid. Okay?"

Chase looked at her and sighed with a small nod.

"I won't."

Freya was hesitant on leaving. She didn't believe him.

"Alright." Freya walked out of the lab after that and Chase pressed his lips together, feeling guilt in his body.

"Sorry, Freya."

——

Time had passed and Freya was getting worried. Chase and her were supposed to play a video game together, but he hasn't been answering his calls or texts. It is never like Chase to not respond.

She was scared Chase went to Antarctica alone when he was specifically told not to.

Freya ran into the lab frantically and saw Davenport there.

"Mr. Davenport! Have you seen Chase? We were supposed to play a video game together, but he hasn't answered any of my calls or texts? I'm getting worried!" Freya was freaking out and Davenport got worried.

"What?" He asked her and Freya shrugged, fiddling with her bracelet.

Bree and Adam walked in from the back.

"Hey, Mr Davenport. Have you seen Chase? He's not answering his phone and his mission suit and gear are gone."

Freya's face turned pale at Bree's words and fear filled her body.

"Freya can't find him either." Davenport replied.

"Yeah, I'm worried he was carried away by a small predatory bird," Adam mentioned and Freya rolled her eyes at his lame joke.

"Get him on the comm set now," Davenport ordered and Bree typed on the desk, getting Chase on the comm set as Davenport, Freya, and Adam put in a comm piece to talk to Chase.

"Got him!" Bree said and put on a comm piece.

"Chase, where are you?" Davenport asked.

Chase was standing in the middle of a blizzard in Antarctic with his snowsuit on.

"I'm at the Cytanium site!"

"He's alive," Freya softly sighed with relief.

"What? I told you it was too dangerous. What are you doing?" Davenport asked him and pulled up the map of Antarctica to get Chase's coordinates.

"I'm proving that even without super strength and super speed I can still get the job done!" Chase explained and Freya sighed, shaking her head.

Freya couldn't believe what she was hearing. This was all about Chase proving himself. She wanted to punch Chase for being stupid and also hug him tightly because she knows he feels useless compared to Adam and Bree. Now, she isn't sure she can do either because he might not make it back.

An alarm beeped on the cyber desk. A massive storm was about to trap Chase.

"You're about to be trapped by a major storm!" Davenport exclaimed. "Get out of there now!"

"It's okay, Mr. Davenport! I'm almost done!" Chase protested and Freya groaned. "I just have to get the last of the samples!"

"Chase get out of there!" Freya cried with worry and Adam rubbed her back.

"No! Abort and seek shelter! That's an order!" Davenport ordered his son firmly. "That storm-"

Freya panicked as she heard rumbling on her comm set. "What is that?"

Chase turned around and saw an avalanche approaching him at a rapid speed. He screamed as he was hit with the avalanche and after that there was no communication from him.

"Chase!" Freya yelled, panicking.

"Chase!" Mr. Davenport called.

Bree looked at the cyber desk. "There was a major avalanche at Chase's coordinates."

"Oh my gosh," Freya muttered with fear, holding her hands to her chest.

"He may still be alive, but we don't have much time!" Davenport told them and lowered the map down.

"Adam, let's go!" Bree called and her and Adam rushed out the door to save their brother.

Freya went up to a worried Davenport.

"Is he going to make it?" She asked him and Davenport's eyes found a very scared Freya.

He barely ever sees her like this and it made him sad.

"I don't know." He admitted and Freya started to bite her nails, her whole body shaking. "Adam and Bree will do everything they can to get him back."

Davenport pulled her in for a hug and Freya leaned into his embrace. She let out a shaky breath and a small tear slipped from her eye.

"I hope so."

——

Adam and Bree were in Antarctica, standing right where Chase's coordinates were. Bree had binoculars and Adam was trying to track Chase's heat signature.

"Any sign of him?" Davenport asked from inside the Lab with Freya next to him.

"Nothing!" Bree replied.

"I can't find the heat signature anywhere," Adam told them.

"Well, how could he not be here?" Bree asked. "This was Chase's exact location!"

"There's only one explanation! He met a family who took him in as their pet because he's the exact same size as a penguin." Adam told her and Freya rolled her eyes, tired of Adam's jokes.

"He's not here. Let's move south," Bree suggested.

"No, guys, that's it. There could be another avalanche any minute." Davenport protested and sighed. "I'm calling off the rescue."

Freya stared at Davenport with disbelief. "What?"

"What?" Bree asked.

"No way! I'm not leaving with my brother!" Adam exclaimed.

"You can't do this," Freya told Davenport. "You can't-"

"Freya," Davenport stopped a panicking Freya. "I can't lose all three of them."

Bree saw something in the snow. "Wait! That's Chase's comm set!" Adam picked it up. "He was here! We have to keep looking!"

"Guys, I'm serious! Get out of there!" Davenport ordered them.

Rumbling and cracking was heard, similar to the previous avalanche.

"Hey, there's that sound again!" Adam chuckled and Freya gasped.

"It's an Avalanche!" Freya said.

"Avalanche! Move!" Bree supersped her and Adam out of the incoming Avalanche.

Freya covered her face, feeling worry and panic.

"Please be okay, Chase..."

——

Adam and Bree returned and Davenport and Freya were relieved to know that they were okay. However, they were unsure if Chase was okay. If Freya sees Chase, she'll punch him and then hug him. Then do it over again.

Freya had never been this worried before. She didn't want to lose her best friend. Who else is she supposed to talk about biology with? Play her favorite video game with. Tease all the time.

"Don't give up guys. There's still a chance we can find him," Davenport encouraged the three as they walked back into the lab.

The four froze as they saw Chase standing there. Freya smiled brightly at the sight and felt so much relief.

"Chase!" Freya said.

"You're alive!" Bree said.

Douglas walked out from behind him and Freya's smile dropped. Her face went pale and her eyes darkened.

"What..." she frowned.

Adam gasped. "It's evil uncle daddy!"

"Back away from him, Chase," Davenport carefully instructed.

"It's too late, Donald," Douglas said and put his arm around Chase. "He's with me now."

Freya felt her heart drop. "What?"

"Chase, what's going on?" Bree asked in disbelief.

"It's true," Douglas grinned. "I've finally taken back what was stolen from me."

Leo ran in with the Cryo-Blaster. "Alright, Big D. I know I'm not supposed to touch your stuff, but you know how sometimes things happen, and sometimes things happen when you really don't want them to happen. And that just happens to be what just happened. Upstairs."

Davenport pointed at Douglas behind us hand and Leo looked at Douglas, yelling at the sight.

"Ahhh!"

"Whatever you're up to, Douglas, you're not gonna get away with it," Davenport warned.

The cyber desk beeped and Douglas walked overs, taking out the USB drive. "I just did. The download's finished. I now have the power to give Chase all three bionic abilities. And now no one will be able to stop us!"

Douglas laughed and Chase looked at him.

"Actually, they can."

Freya looked at Chase with a confused expression.

"That USB drive you're holding is completely useless." Chase confessed.

Douglas frowned. "What? Well then what just took an hour and a half to download?!"

"A list of everything Adam's ever eaten," Chase informed.

A small smile formed on Freya's face and she made eye contact with Chase. The two shared a heartfelt smile.

Adam gasped. "Not my incredible edibles!"

"You double-crossed me," Douglas pointed at Chase.

"Did you really think I would betray my own family?" Chase asked, slowly walking toward him.

"Well, it's always worked for me." Douglas remarked.

"Even if you could offer me every ability there is, I would never go to your side. We're a team." Chase told Douglas in a firm tone. "And teams never quit on each other."

Freya was now smirking at Douglas. She was still gonna hit Chase, but she will hug him even more now.

"All right!" Douglas threw his hands up and walked to the other side of the lab. "What do you say we just put all this behind us and get down to the business of healing this family? Am I right?" Douglas put his arms out. "Bring it in people! Let's hug it out!"

Adam opened his arms to hug and Davenport stopped him.

"Adam!"

Freya moved closer to Chase and put a hand on his shoulder, giving him a soft smile. He smiled back at her.

"Well, you know what they say. If you can't join em-" Douglas pulled out a weapon and Freya moved behind Chase.

"Get down!" Chase called and Freya grabbed his shoulders, crouching behind him as everyone else hit the floor. Chase grabbed the Cryo-Blaster and shot Douglas with it. Douglas turned into a block of ice.

Freya let go of Chase and smiled at what he did. Everyone else stood up and looked at a frozen Douglas.

"Wow!" Leo smiled. "You froze him!"

"Good job, Chase," Freya praised Chase and he softly blushed.

"Um..." Leo awkwardly began. "Now, exactly how would someone go about unfreezing someone? Cause it is not the button located here, here, here, here, here, or here?" Leo pointed at all the buttons on the Cryo-Blaster.

"Mr. Davenport, I'm really sorry. I know I should have warned you about Douglas." Chase apologized, going up to Davenport. "I just knew that if I could get him back here, then we could trap him for good."

"Good work, Chase. You make a great double agent," Davenport smiled at Chase.

"I agree," Freya added.

"Thank you. Oh. And I almost forgot," Chase took out a bag with Cytanium. "Here's your Cytanium."

Davenport gasped, taking the bag. "Money! Money! Money! Money! Money! Money!" He danced around the kids before stopping. "I'm sorry. I mean, 'thank you.'"

Freya chuckled and Chase's eyes found her. He softly smiled at her and she looked at him.

Freya's happy he's okay.

——

"So, what are we gonna do with frozen uncle Dougie?" Bree asked as the kids stared at a frozen Douglas. Davenport was making funny faces at him.

"I don't know. We could probably ship him off to one of my offshore facilities," Davenport suggested. "Or we could get some rock salt and make the evilest batch of ice cream ever!"

Freya smiled. "Anything involving food I'm here for it!"

"Speaking of the 'unfreeze' button," Leo awkwardly brought up.

"We weren't speaking of the 'unfreeze' button," Chase pointed out.

"Well, we probably should." Leo grinned sheepishly.

——

Upstairs were two frozen blocks of people. Frozen Janelle and frozen Tasha.

Freya looked at the ice blocks and nodded. "Yep! They are frozen!"

"Oh! Ice!" Adam stuck his tongue out, going up to the ice and Leo and Chase held him back.

"We have to fix this! Janelle's mom will be here any minute!" Leo exclaimed in a panic.

"Okay, I'll just use my heat vision." Adam suggested.

"No, then Janelle would see you using your bionics." Chase objected.

"Not while she's frozen in suspended animation," Davenport reasoned and Adam looked around at the others for an answer.

"You heard him! Light them up!" Freya motioned for him to go.

"Oh, wait!" Leo interrupted. "On second thought, these ladies are gonna be really upset! I need a running start!"

Leo ran out the door and Adam was about to use his heat vision, but Davenport stopped him.

"Wait! Me too!"

Davenport followed Leo out the door.

"Step back, guys." Adam told the three and they stepped out of the way of Adam's line of sight.

Adam used his heat vision on Tasha's ice block. Then on Janelle's. They both were unfrozen, but were very wet.

"What... happened?!" Janelle asked.

"Leo happened," Tasha replied.

"He Leo'd this up," Freya mentioned and they all agreed.

——

Adam and Bree helped Tasha and Janelle get cleaned up. Freya was about to head home  because she was mentally exhausted. She almost lost her best friend and then almost thought he was going to join Douglas.

She just wanted to go home.

Freya opened the door and walked out. Chase watched the blonde girl leave and hesitated on whether he should talk to her or not. He knew she was upset and wanted to make sure she was alright.

Chase quickly followed her out the door and she turned to him. Freya let out a sigh as he shut the door.

"Chase, I don't need you to walk me home. I live right across the street," Freya pointed to her house. "Thanks, but I'm okay-"

Freya went to leave, but Chase stopped her. "No, Freya."

Freya paused and turned back to him. "What?"

"I'm sorry. I didn't mean to worry you or upset you." Chase apologized. "I just wanted to prove that I can do these missions without speed or strength."

"There's a reason why you are on a team. None of you can do it alone," Freya reasoned. "Adam and Bree wouldn't know what to do without your supervision and leadership. You still have neat abilities. They can't move stuff with their mind or create forcefields. All your abilities tie together to create one great team. You don't need to prove yourself."

Chase gave her a warm smile with a faint blush. "Thanks Freya. I'm sorry I worried you. I didn't realize you cared that much."

Freya scoffed. "I don't care that much."

Chase folded his arms giving her a look and Freya rolled her eyes, averting her eyes.

"Maybe I care a little." She admitted. "I'm not really a person who talks about that stuff. So, this is a once in a lifetime thing. I care about you, Chase. I care about a lot of things. I just don't show it."

Chase smiled. "I care about you too, Freya."

Freya chuckled bashfully and Chase blushed, looking away.

"I should get home." Freya said and then remembered something. "Actually, I forgot this."

Freya punched Chase's arm and he winced, rubbing the injury.

"Ow..."

"That's for scaring me." She said and then wrapped her arms around his shoulders, holding him close. Chase stood there shocked at her hug for a moment, before wrapping his arms around her waist holding her tightly.

Freya smiled softly and Chase was enjoying the moment. They both liked the feeling.

Freya pulled away and stood there awkwardly. "That's for making it out alive."

Chase was still blushing and let out a small chuckle.

"Okay. Bye." Freya quickly left with her cheeks bright red and Chase watched her leave.

"Bye..."

Chase took a few moments to process what happened, before heading back inside the house.

Up Next: Adam Up

More Chase and Freya fluff. It's small, but it's something. It's gonna be slow but will be worth it.
