"You're hiding, that's supposed to be my thing."

"I think it's best if I hide for a while."

"Scott, it's been over a week since the incident." I sighed, closing the bedroom door. "Nobody blames you for what happened."

"You were never scared of me." Scott said and I nodded. "Why?"

"You were never scared of me. Why would I be scared of you?"

"Because I can't control it."

"Scott... You have a brain injury that makes you not have control of your abilities. It genuinely doesn't matter to me."

"Alex could control it."

"Havok was tethering on the line of control up until he died. There was a reason he put himself in isolation before Charles found him."

"But he could still control it."

"Scott..." I sighed, sitting next to him. "You can't control every aspect of your life. At some point, you're going to lose control."

"But whenever I do, people get hurt... You could get hurt." He whispered and shakily held one of my hands. "I don't want you to get hurt."

"You know better than anyone that I'm not afraid of a little risk. You don't have to protect me from yourself."

"I feel like I do."

"Well, you don't. If anything, I have to protect you from me whenever I lose my mind... But you're still there to anchor me. Let me do the same for you."

"Lyla, I lead this team. I can't-"

"Even leaders can have their moments. Doesn't make you any less, Scott. It actually makes us admire you more." I smiled softly as he pulled me to straddle his lap.

"I don't know how to do this sometimes." Scott admitted and rested his head on my shoulder. "I don't know how to do this without feeling like I'm failing everyone... failing you."

"You're not failing anyone, Scott. Especially me... You don't have to have all the answers all the time."

"Then why does it feel like I have to?"

"Because you're drowning right now and won't let me pull you out."

"I don't know how to." He whispered and I pulled his head back to remove the glasses. "Lyla-"

"It's okay." I assured and removed them only to place one of my hands over his eyes. "The most dangerous part of you is covered by the most dangerous part of me and nothing has happened, has it?"

"Nothing happened." He whispered, clearly trying to assure himself and I pressed a kiss to his forehead. "Nothing happened... I have control."

"You have control." I repeated and helped him put on his glasses. "And there he is."

"There I am."

"There's the fearless Cyclops I know and love." I cooed as Scott laid down with a small smile. "And there's Scott Summers, the one I love even more."

"Sometimes I forget how much you believe in me."

"Guess I'll just have to keep reminding you."

"You somehow always do, especially when I'm stuck in my head." He hummed and pulled me down to kiss me. "I don't say it as much as I'd like, but thank you."

"You don't have to thank me. Not dumping my ass is more than enough for me."

"Now why would I do that?"

"Because I drive you up the wall most days and I steal your clothes."

"And motorcycle."

"And motorcycle." I grumbled and he laughed.

"Small price to pay to have you in my life... But I'd like my favorite jacket back at least."

"Fine. Only because it doesn't smell like you anymore." I rolled my eyes and rested my head on his chest. "And your shirts, but I draw the line at my favorite one. That one stays with me and you can pry it from my cold and dead hands."

"Deal." Scott laughed and pressed a kiss to the top of my head. "But y'know that means that you're stuck with me forever."

"I kinda figured that out when I took your bike and found a picture of us in it." I teased and lifted my head. "Plus that means that you're just as stuck with me."

"Then marry me." He blurted out and my eyes widened.

"Just like that?"

"Just like that." Scott nodded and sat up, pulling me even closer to him. "I want it all with you, Lyla. I want a family, little versions of us running around... A little house on the grounds. Maybe next to the Mansion so it'll be just us, but still close so our kids will always be with their grandfather, aunts and uncles. I want to see you painting in the art room I'll make for you, looking over the lake so you'll always have the perfect view. I'll even make a white picket fence for you... I want all of it as long as it's with you."

"How... How long have you thought about all this?" I asked in shock.

"A while." He hummed. "I never told you because I didn't want to overwhelm you. But I want a life with you, beyond the X-Men. I want a life where it's just us. Lyla and Scott, not Cyclops and Ravager."

"I want that too, I really do... But what if it falls apart?"

"We'll work it through, just like with everything else. It's not gonna be perfect and I don't have much to offer, but I promise to give you all I can."

"Then it's a yes." I laughed and blinked back my tears. "It's a yes to all of it."

"You mean that?"

"Yes, you big idiot! I want all of it... Everything you just described, I want it."

"God, you have no idea how much this means to me." Scott sighed in relief and pulled me into a tight hug. "I was terrified you were gonna say no."

"Why would I? You're everything I ever wanted, Scott... Everything I ever dreamed of when I was a kid and watched how much my dad loved Kayla. And I finally found a love like that."

"Summers! You're late for training!" Dad pounded at the door and I stifled a laugh. "And you better not be corrupting my kid."

"I'm not on the board, Logan! I scheduled you with Beast and Rogue!" Scott called out. "And we're just talking, for the love of God!"

"You better be." He grumbled and walked away.

"Aww, he's warming up to you!" I cooed and pinched his cheeks.

"That's warming up? I felt threatened."

"You're gonna have to ask Pietro a favor once we tell him we're getting married."

"I'll tell him from the top of the Everest and then run in the other direction."

"He was in a good mood this morning, so I'd tell him as soon as possible before someone pisses him off."

"Can't you tell him?"

"I could... but that wouldn't be as fun."

"You're smiling. It's disturbing."

"Scott asked me to marry him." I whispered and Jean dropped the plate she was holding. "He's gonna build us a house next to the Mansion and-"

"Woah, woah, back up!" She yelled and sat across from me. "That man has been depressed for an entire week, has been hiding all day and all it took was for you to not give him a moment's peace and you walk out of that room engaged and with a house!?"

"Pretty much. So we have a wedding to plan and I want to do it because if I leave it to him, we'll all be heading to the courthouse right now dressed in our pajamas."

"Who's getting hitched?" Dad asked, walking inside the kitchen and we both tensed when Scott appeared right behind him. "Oh, look. Sleeping Beauty's awake."

"Good afternoon to you too, Logan."

"That's all you gonna say?"

"That's all I'm gonna say." Scott hummed and placed his hands on my shoulders making Jean smile.

"It's Gambit's turn to cook dinner!" Rogue announced as the rest of the team made their way inside and I glanced up at Scott.

"We have mediators." I pointed out. "And Jean already knows."

"I suddenly feel sick." He whispered and I chuckled. "Now that you're all here... I'd like to apologize for being absent this week, it won't happen again."

"It's all good, sugar! We understand you needed peace and Lyla sure worked us to the bone while you were gone." Rogue smiled. "You feeling better now?"

"Yeah... I am."

"We also have another announcement." I said and glanced at Jean who was holding onto Ororo's hands and smiling big.

"We're getting married." Scott announced and everyone froze for a few moments before they started cheering.

All except for Dad.

"This some kinda joke?" Dad asked and the room fell silent. "Married!?"

"It's not a joke, Dad. We're really getting married." I sighed.

"A week ago he couldn't even leave his room and now you both think you're ready for marriage!?" He exclaimed and stood up. "You think she's gonna wait around for you to get your head off your ass and man up? Think she's gonna wait for the next time you lose control and pray she doesn't get hurt?"

"Dad!"

"Logan, I know you're worried and want what's best for her." Scott said and held my hand tight. "But I'm not running from it anymore. I know what I did wasn't the best and I'm sorry... From the bottom of my heart, I'm sorry to you and I'm sorry to the rest of the team."

"Not good enough, Summers. This team needs stability and so does she... My little girl deserves better than someone who goes hiding when things don't go his way."

"Trust me, she deserves better than both of us."

"Does she now?"

"Yes, she does. She deserves someone who can actually control their abilities and doesn't have to depend on some fucking glasses to control it... And she deserves a dad who will actually let her be happy and support her decisions."

"Okay, that's enough out of both of you." Jean warned but I glared at her.

"Not your fight and I'm not getting involved in it." I said and moved to stand behind her. "You two work this out and don't involve me. I know what I deserve and it's certainly not the two of you being at each other's throats every waking moment!"

"Logan, I'm not gonna stand here and have everything figured out because I genuinely don't... But I'm willing to try." Scott defeatedly sighed and we all widened our eyes.

"Did he just... he gave up?" Kurt whispered and I shrugged.

"And what's gonna happen when 'trying' isn't good enough anymore?" Dad raised an eyebrow and stepped closer while crossing his arms. "You're asking for my blessing, but you don't get that by 'trying', Summers."

"I'm not here begging for an approval that I know I'll never have... I'm here to tell you that I'm marrying your daughter because I love her and I'm more than committed to being better, both for her and for this team. I'm just asking you for the chance to prove... to prove to you that I deserve her."

Dad turned to me with a slight frown and I gave him a nod.

"He makes you happy, moonlight?"

"He does, Dad." I promised and smiled softly when he turned back to Scott.

"I get it, kid... I really do. You love her and want to give her the best, that's something I can respect." He sighed and took another step. "But you gotta understand that's my whole life right there and I'd fight a hundred more wars before I see her hurt... That's my little girl and I have to protect her with all I have because that's my job."

"I understand, Logan. Believe me or not, I always understood."

"You never will until you have a kid of your own." Dad shrugged and placed his hands on Scott's shoulders making all of us tense. "I still don't think you're good enough for her and I probably never will. But if you're man enough to stand in front of me and say that you'll do right by her, I'll give you a chance to prove yourself."

"Logan, I-"

"But... you hurt her, you mess up even once, and what I everything I've ever done will pale in comparison to what I'm gonna do to you. Understood, bub?"

"I understand." Scott nodded and stepped back, making everyone sigh in relief.

"I was worried we had to pull out the knives." Jean held her chest and I rolled my eyes, following Dad when he left the kitchen.

"Daddy..." I called out and grabbed his arm. "He's gonna make me a house. Just like the one you made for me and Kayla when I was a kid... Right next to the Mansion so I'll never be away from you and my family, but a space where it's just us."

"He's really gonna do that?" His eyes widened and I nodded. "Lyla... I just don't ever want you to go what I went through. I don't hate the guy, but-"

"I understand."

"It's hard letting my little girl go."

"I know, Dad." I smiled softly and hugged him. "But I'm not going anywhere. Scott and I want to stay close and he knows how important you are to me."

"I don't have much of a choice, now do I?" He chuckled and I shook my head. "Well... If he's gonna build you that house, I better keep an eye on it and make sure it's done right."

"I honestly wouldn't expect anything less from you."
