Arya felt terrible, she believed that something between Fred and her was different, but she was wrong.
For Fred there wasn't anything in a romantic way, so of course he didn't want a relationship with her, but would continue as usual, without commitment.
Arya had only deluded herself in front of all those moments spent together in which he was sweet and acted like a real boyfriend.

At the beginning, after the argument they had in the common room, Arya tried to avoid him, but then she realized it was stupid, she wasn't a child anymore, she had to continue her life like nothing happened.
Fred, on the other hand, looked normal as usual, he didn't bring up the conversation and didn't talk to her at all.
It looked like it was as if they had become strangers and didn't know each other. They didn't speak to each other and everything that existed before was as if it never happened.
Arya was hurt, but was good at hiding it in public. When she was with Hermione she let her out all the frustration and tears.

"Maybe he was really in love with you, but was scared about his feelings and wanted a break, so to not feel anything anymore and continue situationships with all the girls without commitment, as he wants" Said Hermione, trying to figure it out.
"I don't care, he threw away everything we've been through, he played with my feelings and I feel used" Said Arya.
"I don't think so, I mean... He didn't behaved nice, but he gave you attention that you only give to someone you really care about, also, if you do certain things with a person, it's obvious that a deep bond is established, it can't be ignored"
"Well... I'll ignore it as he is doing. Maybe he wasn't the right person for me and I'll find someone better"
"That's the spirit!"
"I was kidding Herm, I won't fall in love anymore. I want to stay alone" Said Arya covering her face with a pillow.
And that was a usual conversation between Hermione and Arya.

Arya finished her lunch when the twins joined the table, she only greeted George and both Fred and Arya avoided each other. Then she stood up and headed to the library to do some researches before afternoon classes.
She was in the courtyard, even if was very cold and the sky was grey, it looked like was going to snow soon.
"Hey Ary. What are you doing out here all alone? You don't like cold"
She ignored the voice and heard a sigh.
"Don't tell me you are hiding from me because of last night... It's been almost two weeks now..."
"So what? It's not like you tried to talk to me, you just avoided me" Said Arya looking at Fred, who was standing behind her with hands in his pockets.
"I'm sorry, I felt terrible and I didn't know what to do. I was just playing around with Angelina... We had a thing once... But I didn't mean anything by it"
She felt her heart sink. She didn't want to know about Fred and Angelina kissing and doing stuff.
"Come on, let's go for a walk and talk" Continued the boy holding out his hand.
Arya ignored it.
"No"
"Okay so... I'll tell you here... I'm sorry for what I did, I felt guilty all the time... I'm not good in relationships and I don't look for one because I can't give you what you deserve. But I felt good with you, I can't deny it. These two weeks let me realize that I am afraid to lose you, you mean a lot to me but... I think we shouldn't continue our situationship"
She blinked, hurt by his words.
"So, since you are not honest with your feelings, you want to stop everything? Why are you so afraid to be in a relationship?! I'm not someone that could hurt you, I was always kind and by your side when things were tough"
"I know but... I think we are different, I can't love you as you want and I don't want to lose you again. If we keep a normal friendship, no one will get hurt"
"I'll be hurt anyway, because I now you go to other girls and do things with them"
"That's why we shouldn't continue, it hurts you, let's just be friends, nothing more"
Arya was hurt and mad at him.
"You don't deserve my friendship" Said the girl walking away to her class.

Ron and Harry were playing during transfiguration. Arya and Hermione looked at them, rolling their eyes. Also Professor McGonagall noticed and glared at them.
"Now, if Potter and Weasley are kind enough to behave as befits their age... I'd like to say something"
The students looked at her.
"The Yule Ball is near, it's a traditional event as part of the Triwizard Tournament and an opportunity for us to get to know each other by chatting with our foreign guests. Now, the dance will only be open to fourth years and above, although you can invite a younger student if you want..."
Lavender Brown gave a high-pitched laugh. Cali Patil elbowed her hard in the ribs, her face scrunching up as she tried not to burst out laughing too. Professor McGonagall ignored them and continued.
"The ball will begin at eight on Christmas evening and end at midnight, in the great hall" Professor McGonagall surveyed the class meaningfully.
"Of course at the Yule Ball we can all dress up as we want, but this does NOT mean that exceptions about a good behaviour to the rules will be allowed. I would be deeply disappointed if a Gryffindor student will embarrass the school in some way"
Arya giggled and Hermione rolled her eyes.
The bell rang but Professor McGonagall said over the noise.
"Potter... I need to talk to you, if you don't mind"
He would later tell his friends that since he was a champion he had to look for a lady and open the dances.

A week ago, Harry would have declared that finding a lady for the ball was nothing compared to the idea of challenging dragon, but now that he was faced with the prospect of asking a girl to the dance, you felt that he would rather have another challenge with a dragon.
Harry and Ron never saw so many people who decide to stay at Hogwarts for Christmas. Arya and Harry always did it, of course, since they didn't have a family.

The boys found out that there were many more girls at school than they thought, they were everywhere.
"Since when?" Asked Ron.
"Psychology says you see something you think about a lot more often, so your brain now sees more girls because you have to look for one" Explained Arya.
"It's impossible to find one"
Hermione rolled her eyes.
"You are a champion, a lot of girls would like to go the Yule Ball with you" Said the girl looking at Harry.
"Yeah... I said no to some of them so... I don't think I'll find one soon..."
Arya giggled.
"Poor girls, why don't you ask Ginny?"
Ron glared at her.
"She's my sister"
"And Neville already asked her" Added Hermione.
"Neville?! I can't believe he has a date and we don't!"

Of course a lot of guys asked Arya for the ball, but she declined. She didn't want to go to the ball since she wasn't feeling well after what happened with Fred, and didn't want to see him dance with an another girl.

Harry was reading in the common room, Ron was playing with magic cards and Hermione and Arya were finishing some homework for the week.
Ron placed the last two cards on top of the castle, which exploded in grand style, burning his eyebrows.
"You're cute, Ron... It will match your evening dress" Said Fred and George.
They sat at the table with Hermione, Ron and Arya while the redhead touched his face to assess the damage
"Ron, can you lend us the owl?" George asked.
"It's out delivering a letter, why?" Replied Ron.
"Because George wants to ask him to the dance" Fred said sarcastically.
"Because we want to send a letter, you idiot" Said George as Ron rolled his eyes.
"So... You all already have a lady or a knight for the ball?" Asked the old twin, curious.
"No" said Ron.
"Well, you'd better hurry, boy, or the pretty ones will be all busy" Said Fred.
Arya couldn't bear this conversation anymore.
"And who are you going with?" Asked Ron.
"With Angelina" Fred replied immediately, without any trace of embarrassment.
Arya bit her lips, he was saying that in front of her for purpose.
"What? Have you invited her yet?" Said Ron, surprised.
"Oh, right"
Fred turned and shouted across the common room
"Hey! Angelina!"
Angelina, who was chatting with Alicia Spinnet by the fire, turned to look at him.
"What's going on?" She shouted back.
"Do you want to go to the Yule Ball with me?"
Angelina gave Fred an appreciative look.
"Yeah, of course" She replied, then turned back to Alicia and continued chatting with a half smile on the face.
"That's it, very simple" Fred said to Harry and Ron. He stood up yawning, looking at Arya with a smirk.
"I'm going to sleep" Arya snapped, closing her book and heading for the girls stairs without another word, followed by Hermione.

"Wow, Fred was-" Said Hermione
"An asshole" Finished Arya.
"How could he think of such a thing! Ask to Angelina?! Is he stupid or something?"
"Okay calm down"
"Okay, that's it. It's not a problem because I won't go, so I won't see him. Problem solved" Said Arya lying on her bed.
"Maybe we can try to set you up with someone else for the Yule Ball. How about that handsome ravenclaw, Roger Davies? I heard he's single and quite charming" Said winking.
"He asked Fleur"
"Oh right... Uhm... You could go with Oliver Wood but he graduated last year... Harry?"
"He's my ex and I can't do it, for Ginny, you know"
Hermione nodded.
"Well, I'm sure there are plenty of other amazing wizards at Hogwarts who would be lucky to dance with you, and besides, you don't need a date to have a good time at the Yule Ball"
"I think I'll stay here in the common room"
"Then I'll join you. We can always hang out and do something fun together. What do you say?"
Arya smiled warmly at her.
"Herm, thanks but I can't let you do this. You are going with Krum! Have fun!"
"Don't worry about me, my fun can wait, especially if it means spending time with my best friend. Maybe we can have our own little ball in our dorm! We'll just have to sneak some delicious treats from the great hall and come up with some fun dance moves"
"Herm, I want you to go and have fun. End of discussion" Said with a giggle.
"If you insist"

Days went by, the ball was near. Harry and Ron didn't find a lady.
They were sat in the great hall.
"Why are you so sad?" Asked Arya to the boys.
"Because they were both simply rejected by the girls they invited to the dance!" Said Ginny.
"Thank you so much, Ginny" Ron said harshly. "Were the good ones already taken, Ron?" Asked Herm annoyed.
"Eloise Midgen is starting to look rather nice now, huh? Well, I'm sure you'll find someone somewhere who will say yes" Added Arya.
But Ron stared at Hermione as if he suddenly saw her in a new light.
"Hermione, you're a girl..."
"Wow, you are a lightning" She replied, acidly.
"We can go together!"
"No thanks, I already have a date"
Ron was shocked.
Fred and George joined the conversation.
"Did you find a hot looking girl?" Asked the older twin with a wink.
"No, everyone has a date"
"That's not true... I heard our Heeler is still available" Added George looking at Arya.
Arya looked up at him.
"Why? No one asked you?" Asked Fred.
"Oh, a lot of boys did, actually, but I'm not so desperate that I necessarily need to have a partner"
George giggled.
"Uh, I feel a little tension. Well, Ary, why don't we go together?"
"What?" Asked Fred and Arya at the same time, surprised.
"Would you like to do me the honor of coming to the Yule Ball with me?"
Arya was speechless.
Fred's smile falters.
Please say no, don't go with him.
"Okay, yes!" Said with a smile.
Oh no.
"Great Ary, I promise you and I will have fun. See you at the Ball then!"
Fred and George stood up.
Fred turned and walked away, trying to hide the disappointment in his heart.
