chapter twenty-nine
This place was a place Regulus had never seen.
"As you can see it's a pub like the Leaky Cauldron. Except for Muggles. And not all of them should I say," he told him over the loud music.
"It's supposed to be like the Leaky Cauldron?" said back the boy, confused.
He looked around and saw nothing alike to the place they had been some minutes before. It was dark and full of flashy lights. There was loud music and people dancing wearing clothes he didn't know even existed. Muggles were weirder than he would have imagined.
"So, is this a place for eccentric Muggles?"
"Oh you could say this," chuckled Ariel as he walked to the bar. "What do you want to drink?"
"I have no idea."
"They have Firewhisky but it's less strong."
They arrived at the bar and Ariel asked for two Firewhiskies like he would usually do. Regulus didn't miss the look of confusion on the barman's face.
"Here are your two whiskies," he told them while serving the glasses.
"When you said you wanted to have fun, you meant you wanted to get drunk?"
The blond boy laughed at his words while sipping on his glass and turning around to face the dance floor.
"Not really. I just wanted to come here."
"Why here?"
"It's my favorite gay bar," just shrugged the boy.
"Gay bar? You mean this is a pub only for gay Muggles?" asked the boy looking around.
"Yeah."
"So that's how gay Muggles look like..." muttered the young boy, slightly surprised.
"Muggles have always been different, it's not new," chuckled his eldest.
"Have you shagged any of them?" curiously and more quietly asked Regulus.
Ariel looked at him surprised by his words but he wouldn't stare back. "No, never with Muggles. I only flirt with them."
"Do you come often?"
"It has been long since last time because I always spend holidays with you now," laughed the blond boy. "But I started coming when I was sixteen."
"And so you expect me do that ?" said the young boy while looking around and seeing different couples kissing and people dancing with each other, barely any space between their bodies.
Ariel just laughed as his eyes roamed the large room as well. "Reg. Don't worry. There will be no Ivanna Flint to bother us or no stupid Dale Penley to attack us. Nobody to shame us. We're free here."
No matter how comforting Ariel tried to be, Regulus couldn't help but feel uneasy. He liked intimacy, he liked his intimacy with the older boy, he liked keeping that a secret, it was their thing - something he didn't want anyone to know about.
"I'm still gonna have fun," he murmured while placing a kiss on his temple before taking a sip of his drink.
He left the boy's side to walk around in the club. Regulus watched as he stopped at the other side of the bar where he started talking to a guy, looking much older than them. He frowned at the sight. The boy, feeling a little upset, walked up to them.
"What's your name young boy?"
"Ariel. You?"
"Ariel? That's surely uncommon. I'm Johnny. Should I offer you a drink?"
"I can't refuse," said smiling kindly the boy.
"What do you want? A margarita? A mojito?"
"Uh... anything..." just answered the blond boy with a smile trying to cover up his lack of knowledge regarding the type of alcohol Muggles liked to drink.
"Two mojitos," he said to the barman. He then turned back to face Ariel, with an amused smile. "You're really cute you know."
"Yeah, I know," admitted the boy without any shame, sending him his most charming smile on the way.
They were both close had noticed Regulus. He too was close, close enough to hear everything they were talking about because of how loud they had to speak over the music, and it made him slightly angry. He walked up until standing behind Ariel's back.
"Keep flirting with that dude and I hex you," he hissed, his mouth close to the boy's ear.
Ariel turned around, trying to contain his laughter and the man by his side looked at Regulus.
"Who is he? Boyfriend?"
"No. I'm not dating anyone," told him Ariel, while facing Regulus.
They just stared at each other, more like Regulus glaring at him and Ariel having his crimson lips turned up into a smirk and his eyebrows risen up in wonder. Some tension was building up between them and the man could feel it. At some point, Regulus, sullen, decided to leave the two to wander around in the club. And Ariel went back to his conversation with the stranger.
From afar, he observed the exchange. He loathed the sight. It angered him. The man would try to touch Ariel in a way Regulus disliked very much, even though it was just brushing his hand or his waist. Regulus hated that.
After a while he saw the man leave and Ariel come back to him.
"You're still sulking?" he asked.
"And you're still bitching around?" hissed the younger boy. Ariel laughed and he continued, "He's old. Probably older than your brother..."
"There's nothing wrong with flirting with guys older than Lucius. Try to have fun too. Just relax. This is a place where you're supposed to enjoy yourself."
After that, Ariel just left him to go on the dancefloor, where the man from earlier was dancing.
And again, Regulus watched as Ariel got so close to someone else - someone that wasn't him. Their hands were touching each other's body and he felt disgusted, even sickened by the sight.
But as they were dancing, so close to each other, to the rhythm of this loud and sensual music, Regulus noticed something. Ariel was staring straight at him. No matter how dark it was even though colorful lights were shining everywhere, Ariel's blue eyes were still glistening when looking at him. He watched and felt enchanted by his intense stare, making the anger in him dissipate. His body felt hot with something else now. At this moment, he wanted to be the one so close to him. He wanted Ariel close to him. He wanted his warmth and comfort. He wanted his scent and his arms to envelop him. Maybe he just wanted him.
Like hypnotized, he walked slowly towards the dancefloor, wandering through the crowd, until finding where Ariel and the man where dancing together. And the blond boy obviously noticed him. He detached himself from the other man to face the younger boy.
"Oh the kid from earlier," said the man while smirking a little. He looked at Regulus from head to toe, then stared into his icy eyes before reaching out his hand to grab the younger boy's waist. Without hesitation Ariel slapped his hand away, confusing him.
The blond boy wrapped his arms around Regulus' waist from behind and let his chin fall on his shoulder. The raven-haired boy didn't mind the proximity anymore, he even felt better in his hold.
"I thought he wasn't your boyfriend," said the man with a frown.
The boy smirked and answered, "No. But he's mine."
He then grabbed his face so he could look at him. In the next seconds he was kissing him. Regulus, shocked at first, didn't fight against his actions.
No matter how embarrassed and how red his cheeks were, he kissed back without a second thought. His hands grabbed the blond boy's waist to have him closer. It felt delicious and addictive. Regulus felt intoxicated. The older boy smelt like a mix of cologne and sweat, and he didn't know why, it made him want to have him closer.
In the meantime, Ariel let his body move to the rhythm of the music, Regulus following his lead, almost in synch as he was holding him so close.
"You're like a child, always wanting my attention..."
"Exactly. I'm a child who hates sharing..." replied Regulus with a chuckle. "And you say I'm not your boyfriend, then you say I'm yours, hm?" he asked, arching one of his brow up.
"Exactly. Our relationship doesn't have to have a status for me to claim you're mine."
He smirked at him and it made Regulus roll his eyes and smile faintly. But he secretly enjoyed hearing this more than anything.
For the next hours, the boys stayed in each other's embrace, feeling the music and the excitation through their veins and maybe Regulus felt some adrenaline too. It was an unique moment. Everything felt different that night.
author's note: i work so much and can't find tile to work :((( like all i do is work and sleep when i just to write ugh!!!
btw i didn't want to use the cliché that queer people are eccentric or anything, it's just in this specific place at that specific time period (it's the 1970s) and also the fact that they do view muggles as eccentric people
