7: He's coming home
Seventh Prompt: The letter

Peter missed Narnia. He missed its peace.
Here was war.
And nothing got better, everything just got worse.
Everything was easier since Edmund wasn't all that grumpy anymore. But it wasn't easy.
While his siblings had breakfast he got up and checked the mail. A letter to his mum, another one from Susan's friend. Peter turned the last one around and frowned when he saw his name put on it.
Who would write a letter to him?
He slowly opened it. What would stand in it?
Probably nothing good.
In the first line, only two words were written down and Peter's eyes teared up as he recognised his father's handwriting.
There stood nothing special, just Hey Peter.
But it was his father's handwriting.
Everything came up.
How he missed his parents during his reign as highking.
How he missed them during the time they spent at Professor Kirke's house.
How he missed his dad.
How Edmund fought with him for trying to help his mom.
How Edmund blamed him to act like their dad.
He blamed him to think he actually was their dad.
How Aslan told him that he had to protect his siblings.
How he fought in wars.
How he talked with himself at nights to comfort himself, thinking he would talk to his dad.
And the first sentence of the letter, in the second line, made him cry.

Helen Pevensie heard the mail coming in and Peter got up to check it.
She wondered where he was as he wasn't coming into the room after a bit of time, but she didn't want to leave the other three alone.
But as Peter didn't come in after a few minutes, she got worried and left the room in search of her eldest son.
As soon as she was in the hallway she heard him crying.
Oh no, she thought.
What happened?
„Peter?“, she asked quietly.
He looked up, his eyes red.
„He's coming home“, he whispered.
„He's coming home.“
Helen needed a moment to realise what Peter was talking about.
„What?“, Edmund asked behind her, quietly.
Helen turned around to him, not really realizing what was happening.
„He's coming home“, Peter repeated and a smile appeared under his red and wet eyes.
Edmund stared at his older brother before running up to him and pulling him in a big and tight hug while he also started to cry.
Lucy and Susan came out of the kitchen.
„What's going on?“, Lucy asked worriedly.
Helen leaned down to her and tried to not break out into tears but to smile.
„Dad's coming home“, she said.
Lucy's jaw dropped in unbelief.
„Really?“, she exclaimed.
Helen nodded quickly because she was afraid to break out into tears if she opened her mouth.
A happy grin appeared on Lucy's face and she started to laugh while tears streamed down her face.
She turned to Susan.
„Dad's coming home!“, she called and the two sisters fell into each other's arms.
And that was the final drop that made Helen cry too.
Her husband was coming home.
Lucy cried.
Susan cried.
Edmund cried.
Peter cried.
But they all cried tears of joy.
And on the same day in the evening, Peter sat alone in his room and started outside of the window and imagined that his dad walked down the road, finally coming home.
Of course, he didn't.
But Peter knew that he would.
„Thanks, Aslan“, he whispered.
