The quartet was in the library, and Rosalyn had her head on a book, feeling like this was never going to happen.

Hermione was pacing, actually reading her book. "Rosie tell me again, there's got to be a way that we can do this."

Rosalyn took a deep breath, and let it out in a heavy sigh. Tapping her chin on the book as she spoke, she recited. "Come seek us where our voices sound."

"The black lake, that's obvious," Hermione said immediately. Ron, who was snoring and not even attempting to hid the fact that he was sleeping, was soon shook by Hermione, who was agitated.

"An hour long you'll have to look," Rosalyn quoted again.

"Again, obvious," Hermione said. "Though, admittedly potentially problematic-"

Rosalyn looked up. "Potentially problematic? When was the last bloody time you held your breath underwater for an hour, Hermione?"

Hermione looked slightly bad, and knelt down beside Rosalyn's chair. "Rosie- Rosie we can do this, the four of us can figure it out."

"Hate to break up the little scholarship session," said a growl. Mad-Eye Moody appeared from behind a bookshelf. "But Professor McGonagall would like to see you in her office."

It was funny how Rosalyn and Ron moved first, but Moody said. "Not you two, Mr Potter and Miss Granger."

"But Sir, the second task is only hours away and-" Hermione started to protest.

"Exactly," Moody said, and then he started the guilt trips. "So, presumably Miss Potter is well prepared by now and could do with a good night's sleep."

Ron and Hermione were still reluctant, so he snarled. "Go! Now!"

Rosalyn didn't care at that moment whether Moody was an ally or not. She said loudly. "Brilliant! Do you happen to know why McGonagall wants to take two of my three best friends away?"

Moody growled low. "Miss Potter, I've heard about your sassy attitude, and you won't use it with me. McGonagall wanted these two and I'm following orders!"

Rosalyn sighed, moving closer to Moody. "Fine. I said it. You said it. The teachers all agreed. And if I die during this task then I'm sure that regret won't be strong enough for what you feel."

Moody said slowly, facing her, his voice a low snarl. "I don't suspect you'll die, Miss Potter, you always find a way not to." He turned and walked away. "Granger! Potter! With me!"

Once the three of them had gone, Ron said to Rosalyn. "Well I don't have a bloody clue what to do, d'you?"

"No," Rosalyn laughed, then brought up something that she thought she never would. "You know, Ron, I never wanted this, it sucks to be me. Really."

Ron laughed. "Rosie, I know. I was a bit of an asshole as well."

Rosalyn smiled. "I thought that, but now I realise that you couldn't help it. I'm sorry, Ron."

"I'm sorry, too, Rosie. Now, how can we solve this?"

"Maybe I can help," said the hopeful voice of Neville. Since the ball, Rosalyn and Neville had made up, and they had been talking a lot. Hermione had been sniggering and saying that they had to get together soon, but Rosalyn had turned her down. It was never going to happen.

Ron sighed, for once realising that he couldn't ruin the moment. "I'm going back to the common room, Rosie, Neville can help you."

He left and Rosalyn gave Neville some books on underwater plants.

Neville started to ramble. "You- you know, if it's plants you're interested in, you'd be better off with Goshawk's Guide to Herbology, d'you know there's a wizard, in Nepal that's growing gravity resistant trees-"

"Neville," Rosalyn said, her forehead hitting the book. "Please. I'm so sorry, but-"

"Rosie..." Neville said slowly, sitting down next to the girl. "Are you... okay?"

"I'm fine," Rosalyn said, bringing her head back up with her hands on her face, tears pricking her eyes. "I'm just about to die in the next twelve hours and Moody's just taken the only brains I have away from me, but... yeah, I'm fine."

She turned to face him, Neville looking at her. He smiled warmly. "Rosie... if there's one thing I know about you, it's that you are inhumanly good at avoiding death. So, even if you think you're going to die in the second task, which I doubt you even will, luck will probably get you through."

Rosalyn chuckled slightly, wiping the tears that fell away.

"But," Neville said, his cheeks going slightly rosy. "If you were to tell me what you're up against, we could maybe... work together?"

Rosalyn gave a wry chuckle. "I doubt you'll be able to help, but... I'll tell you."

Neville smiled. "Thanke."

Rosalyn couldn't see any reason to not tell him. "So... long story short, I... have to learn how to breathe underwater for an hour straight by tomorrow."

Neville looked at her, blank, for a second.

"So, if there's any way you can help, let me know," said Rosalyn sadly. "Of course, I'm not an idiot, I know there's gonna be no way-"

"Rosie- I- I can help."

Rosalyn looked up, eyes wide, rendered silent.

"What?"

β˜†β˜†β˜†

Gillyweed. That was the answer. A green, slimy plant that would give Rosalyn breathing ability underwater for an hour.

A

nd thank god she gad found something, because it was starting soon.

The second task. Fred and George were collecting bets and Ginny was telling them off, walking down with Ron. Hermione and Harry were nowhere to be seen and Ron had come with his siblings.

So it was just Rosalyn and Neville, walking on the pier, awaiting a boat out to the three huge structures of stands in the lake.

Neville had stolen gillyweed from Snape's office last night and he now held it in his hand. Rosalyn took it from him and he was thrilled when their hands touched.

Rosalyn, meanwhile, was shaking, barely breathing, all the muscles in her body tense.

Rosalyn, however, was too worried to think about anything like that right now. She held the slimy green plant in her hand. "You're sure about this Neville?"

"Absolutely," Neville said back.

"For an hour?"

"Most likely."

"Most likely?" Rosalyn asked.

"W-w-well there is some debate amongst other herbologists about the effects of freshwater versus salt water-"

"You're telling me this now?" Rosayn raised her eyebrows.

"I just- I just wanted to help you, Rosie," Neville went bright red.

Rosalyn smiled slightly at him. "And you have. Way more than you know."

Neville's face lit up, smiling.

"And that makes you a right side better that Harry, Ron or Hermione," Rosalyn muttered under her breath, turning round on the pier. "Where the hell are they, anyway?"

Neville didn't answer so the two of them got on the boat in silence. However, once on it, Neville said nervously. "I- I hope you win, Rosie."

Rosalyn smiled at him, shrugging. "I just hope I survive."

He looked at her, blushing scarlet. Rosalyn was about to say something else but suddenly they had to get off the boat, they were at the stands. Not two seconds later, either, Rosalyn heard Dumbledore's loudened voice echoing through the stands.

"Welcome to the second task! Now, last night, something was stolen from each of our champions, a treasure of sorts. These four treasures, one for each champion, now lie on the bottom of the black lake. To win each champion need only find their treasures and return to the surface, simple enough-"

All the champions were lined up on a stand that didn't have a barrier. Rosalyn and Fleur wore swimsuits, Cedric and Krum vests and shorts.

"Put that in your mouth," Moody hissed to Rosalyn as she lined up.

Stweeling herself, Rosalyn put the gillyweed in her mouth and chewed on it. It tasted disgusting. She choked and coughed and eventually Moody had to pat her roughly on the back to snap her out of it.

"-And it will begin at the sound of the cannon!"

The cannon went off and Fleur, Krum and Cedric dived gracefully and in sync into the water. Rosalyn stayed on the edge, trying to digest the gillyweed. She only actually went in when Moody pushed her off the edge.

At that moment, the only things she registered were the freezing coldness of the water and the aching of her entire body. She writhed under the water for a second before she felt the side of her neck. It was bumpy. She checked her feet and hands, yes, they were webbed.

I have gills, she thought. Oh Neville, thank you so much...

Meanwhile, Ron, Dean, Seamus and Neville were leaning over the edge, trying to get a glimpse of Rosalyn.

"What's the matter with her?" Seamus asked.

"Dunno,I can't see her," Dean replied.

Ron laughed. "She'll just be recovering from that shove Moody gave her."

But Neville stayed silent. For one, dreadful, never-ending second, he thought that Rosalyn was dead. And he couldn't have that, he couldn't have that-

But then Rosalyn came up to the surface, did a flip and came back down. The four boys cheered and laughed, wishing Rosalyn a good journey in her way to her stolen treasure...

Now, though, Rosalyn swum in the dark, murky water, between giant seaweed and huge plants. She had no idea where she was, but she just kept on going, she had to...

A few fish joined her and swum effortlessly the ways he was going. Wish I could do that, she thought longingly, as it was taking a lot of effort to paddle with her feet. The fish suddenly veered away, though, and she was left to go through another patch of giant seaweed alone.

Suddenly, though, she heard the merpeople song again. It was faint, slow, muffled, but there. She followed it immediately.

Something, she heard, was coming towards her. She dodged quickly and saw it was a grindylow. She remembered doing them with Lupin last year, though, so she wasn't in much danger if it was them.

Rosalyn was starting to give up hope. How long had it been? She didn't know, but if it was an hour, she was going to fail.

Her red hair floated around her in the water and she came to a stone arch in the water. She saw many pillars around this arch, and then she saw four black things, suspended in the water. She swam towards them, and realised that they were people. One for each champion.

Harry was on the left, and then Hermione. A shorter girl with blonde hair was beside her and then... Rosalie was on the right.

Harry for me, Hermione for Krum, Fleur's youngest sister, Gabrielle for her and her younger one, Rosalie, for Cedric, she thought, these are the treasures, but if all are still here then... then I'm the first champion here.

She thrilled with that thought, but then she realised that she needed to save Harry. She went up and cupped her hands round his face. She saw that he had ropes around each arm and leg. She dove down and tried to untie them. This was when she got her first sight of merperson.

They had scaly tails shaped like they were in kids stories, but the other parts were completely different. Their faces were pale, with crazy eyes and hair that burst from their heads. They held tridents as well, not like anything she had ever seen before.

Suddenly, she saw Cedric come towards her. He had a bubble on his head and Rosalyn presumed that it made him able to breathe. He did a non-verbal spell to untie Rosalie's ropes and dragged her off with him. But he didn't forget to point to his watch with his wand and nod to Rosalyn.

Rosalyn undid Harry's roped by hand, and then started to work on Hermione. She knew this wasn't allowed, but-

"But she's my friend too!" Rosalyn tried to yell as a trident was shoved at her neck, the sound only came out as bubbles though. People with gills couldn't talk.

"Only one!" Came the raspy voice of a merman.

Rosalyn rolled her eyes and turned round to see a shark coming at her. She dove out of the way and then saw that the shark was Krum. He had tried to transfigure himself and failed. However, his teeth were useful for cutting the ropes and in a few seconds, he had Hermione and was dragging her to the surface.

Rosalyn swam back up to Harry and linked her arm with his unconscious one. She was about to go when she set her eyes on the blonde girl. An hour... She thought, there's only an hour...

Fleur... what had happened to her? Would she come? Or not? Rosalyn looked at the girl one more time, and made her mind up.

She was going to rescue both of them.
