Leon's POV

The instant her vitals began to drop at a monumental rate, nearby doctors and nurses rushed inside the room straightaway. Including Dr. Rodriquez as well. They rapidly pushed the three of us out of the hospital room, outside into the hallway. The medical staff briskly moving apace around Laura's hospitalโ€”working in order to stabilize my stepdaughter once again.

"Leon!" I turned around. Seeing Chris, Piers, Tyler, and Emile run up to Rebecca, Moira, and I. "What in the hell is going on!?"

"I don't know Chris. Laura was perfectly fine just a second ago. Then all of a sudden, her vitals began to rapidly dropโ€”"

"She's crashing!" One of the nurses yelled from within the room, with a frantic tone of voice while administering medication into Laura's IV tubs, catching our attention. As all of us peered over at the monitor, the lines on her heart monitor went completely flat. Indicating that her heart had ceased beating.

"Code blue! We have a code blue!" Another nursed shouted. He pulled down the top part of Laura's hospital gown, revealing her navy blue bra as the nurse began performing CPR on her. Using his gloved hands to perform chest compressions against Laura's chest.

Emile and Tyler reacted by trying to rush back inside the room, to be back by Laura's side. Chris and I immediately stopped them in their tracksโ€”grabbing ahold of them. Preventing them from interfering, as the doctors and nurses worked tenaciously to bring back Laura.

"No! Let me go you fucking asshole!" Emile yelled at me. She violently thrashed around against my hold, as tears began to brim in her eyes. "Please..."

Soon after her outburst ended, Chris released his grasp on Tyler, as I let go of Emile. She abruptly collapsed onto her knees, with numerous tears running down her cheeks. Emile covered her face with her hands, starting to sob hysterically.

Tyler kneeled down beside Emile. She removed her hands from her faceโ€”glancing up at him and sniffling. He genuinely pulled his friend into a hug. Tyler let her cry into his chest, holding her compassionately while shielding her from the scene in front of us.

"Stand clear!" Dr. Rodriquez moved to stand right beside Laura, holding a defibrillator in each hand. She pressed them heedfully against the pads taped her bare chest, as one of the nurses adjusted the charge on the machine.

"Clear!" She administered the electric current to Laura's chestโ€”causing her to slightly bounce in her hospital bed. Even so, they all concurrently glanced over at the heart monitor, the lines still remained flat. "Again!" She placed them against her chest again, while the nurse turned up the charge a bit.

"Clear!" Laura bounced against her bed again, as her heart failed to revitalize. But that didn't stop Dr. Rodriquez from trying again. Determination dawned on Isabelle's face, as she kept the defibrillators pressed against Laura's chest. The nurse turned the dial againโ€”increasing the charge one last time.

"Clear!" After administering an electric current for the third time in a row, Laura's heart rejuvenated miraculously back to life. Pumping once again with vitality, as her vitals finally began returned to normal. For now.

Laura's POV

'None of this is real...? Why does it hurt so damn bad though?' I thought to myself. I coughed up more blood onto myself, staining my clothing as a drop of the velvet bodily fluid trickled down from my lips. As I recalled why I was in pain, it didn't take me long to figure out why. 'Now I remember. I was shot... The last thing I remember before blacking out was Rebecca operating on me, while I was still bleeding out.'

"...Laura you gotta fight to stay awake! You gotta stay with us...!

ย  ...Laura has sustained massive internal bleeding from the gunshots. Some of those bullets had punctured a couple of her vital organs inside of her body, including her lungs. We need to get her to a hospital, and quick...

ย  ...We have three minutes to leave before the anti-viral gas bombs are deployed onto the city. We need to go, now...!"

The moment I regained my memories back, the immense bleeding stopped, along with the agonizing pain. I partially sat upโ€”using my arms to support myself on top of the wooden floor. Partially pulling back my tank top and flannel. As Alex and I gazed down at my bloody chest, the both of us watched as the bullet holes in my chest and stomach closed up.

The open pieces of flesh molding back together by themselves, as the bullets popped out of my body. Clinking once they hit the bloody, wooden floor. I looked around once moreโ€”noticing that all traces of blood were gone as well. I gazed up at Alex, my features clouded with nothing but utter shock. My eyes went round, before I pulled her into a hug.

"I can't believe it's really you..." I muttered, as my eyes began to brim with tears.

"I know. Nice to see you too little sis," Alex conceded, as I pulled away from her.

"Wait... How are you even here? What'sโ€”"

"I know Laura. All of this is confusing to you, but I promise to explain everything to you once we get to some place safe," Alex notified me, as she helped me up from off the ground. Back onto my own two feet.

"What do you mean some place safeโ€”" I was cut off abruptly when the living room began to violently shake all of a sudden. As if it was the beginning of an earthquake, and a strong one as well.

It quickly grew dark outsideโ€”turning almost pitch black in a matter of seconds. Everywhere except for outside the front door, glowed and shined bright with white light, instead of growing dark like everywhere else. Everything began rumble, tossing, turning, and crashing onto the ground. The force of the tremor was so great, that cracks began to form in the living room. All over the walls.

"We need to go Laura! Now!" Alex grabbed my arm. Tugging me along with her, running towards the front door.

"Come on! Hurry!" Alex hastily opened the door, as we dashed outside into the bright light.

Once we're out of the house and in the open, we were engulfed by the pure, white light. So bright that it practically blinded the both of us momentarily. Alex and I covered our eyes using our hands, to shield ourselves from the intensity of the light. Moments later, the light began to slowly dissipate.

Revealing to us our new surroundings. East Queen Anne playground. There were children of all ages all around us, playing on the playground and having the time of their lives. While their parents stood from afarโ€”watching their children have fun.

"Where are we?" Alex inquired, as she was taking in our new surroundings.

"East Queen Anne Playground," I responded.

"Your favorite playground?" She inquired, turning to face me.

I turned aroundโ€”glancing back at her. "How'd you know that?"

"It's one of your favorite places after all. No wonder you transported us here."

"Me? What do you mean, Alex?"

"We're inside your head Laura. Inside your very mind." Alex pointed at my forehead, beginning to pace in circles around me. "Nothing but a maze filled with a limitless number of rooms in that noggin of yoursโ€”containing every single one of your memories. From your early childhood, up till now. So this place, it's just another mirage." She halted for a brief moment, gesturing to our vicinity. "One of the many rooms within the maze that was recreated from your memories of the playground. And this." Alex picked up a leaf on the ground, wrapping her fingers around it. Enclosing it in her grip. "It only proves my point even further." She opened her hand up, revealing a small butterfly with rainbow colored wings. The butterfly began flapping it's wings, lifting itself into the air and flying away from us.

"But what about you? How do I know that you're real? Or even here? For all I know, you could be just another optical illusion created by my mind as well," I questioned her, as I crossed my arms over my chest.

"If I were an illusion, then I wouldn't know any of these things about you: Your favorite is blue. Your first crush was a man named Piers Nivans. Your favorite kind of soup is clam chowder. Your first kill was when you were eleven years old. And your guilty pleasure consists of binge watching your favorite TV show "Supernatural" for days at a time all while daydreaming about your favorite fictional character, Dean Winchester," She stated. A familiar smirk curled onto Alex's lips, as she crossed her arms over her chest.

My eyes widened right away, as I stood there in front of Alex. Frozen with shock and disbelief. 'How the fuck does Alex know about all of that? Especially about my fictional crush!?' I thought to myself.

"The answer is twin telepathy Laura." Alex answered simply, right as a bright red light began to brighten up briefly from within both of our chests. Illuminating both of our hearts, as they continued to beat persistently and pump life into us. "Since we're identical twins, not only do we share the exact same DNA, we also share a unique bond between us that most siblings don't have. Our bond is so strong, that we can easily read each other's thoughts. Like I just did."

"But how are you even here? In my mind," I inquired.

"Because of the strength of our bond and our unique genome, we can telepathically communicate with one another. Only whenever we're both asleep or unconscious though."

"So that means..." I trailed off.

Alex nodded her head. "It means that neither of us are awake. We're both asleep. However, the only difference is that you're in a coma right now and dying as we speak, and I'm not."

I froze in place. My breath hitched in my throat, as a chill went down my spine. 'I... I'm in a coma... And I'm dying... Oh god.' I glanced down at my hands, slowly but steadily fading away while trembling involuntarily.

"Look Laura," I directed my gaze back up at my twin sister. "I know that this is all appalling to you, but that's why I'm here to help youโ€”"

"Something's wrong," I cut off her off, as I noticed that our surroundings started to change.

"What do you mean Laura?" Alex asked me.

"Look." As the two of us peered all over the playground, the everyone had disappeared. Leaving Alex and I all alone on the playground. The sky gradually began to grow dark, as clouds started to form and cover the whole blue sky. Blocking out the sun in the process.

Not only did our surroundings darken, the wind began to pick up speed as well. Blowing all of the leaves on the ground into the air around us. The moment I heard the loud perpetual echoes of children giggling and laughing, my eyes went round, as I realized what's going on.

"Oh shit," I muttered under my breath.

"What Laura?"

"We have to get out of here! Now!" As Alex and I turned around, our eyes quickly landed on Dad. Technically, a mirage out of our real father. Standing only a couple of feet away from us.

"There's no point in hiding Laura," He stated, with an intimidating tone of voice.?Just as he began advancing towards us as the speed of lightening.

Jake's POV

After Sherry and I boarded the private plane, we placed our luggage in the cubby compartment, then sat down in our seats and buckled up. Once sitting down, I kept adjusting myself in my seat, still feeling tensed up and uneasy from earlier. Out of the corner of my eye, I noticed that Sherry was staring at me. Her eyes flickering with concern.

"Are you alright Jake?" She inquired, using a worried tone of voice.

"Yeah, I'm fine," I lied, only causing her eyes to slightly narrow. I sighed.

"Sherry," I started off. "It's just this whole situation is so fucking baffling yet staggering to me."

"I know how you feel, Jake. I'd feel the exact same way if I were in your shoes."

"It's not just that. After finding out who my father was two years ago, I thought that nothing else, no matter how big or how small it may be, could be as hellish and as eye-opening as that shitty experience was. But I guess I was wrong... While I was in the Middle East, fighting off against the B.O.W.s that were unleashed upon the small villages in Syria, I wondered... I wondered to myself if I wasn't the only one. If there was anyone else out there in the world besides me, who was fathered by that bastard, and forced to live through the consequences of his actions. I guess I was right about that though. I don't even know if I should be glad or upset about this."

"What do you mean, Jake?"

I glanced over at Sherry. Giving her full eye contact. "After my mother died eight years ago, I was left alone in the world. Mom was the only family I had left, up until she got sick and passed away. Leaving me completely on my own, so I had no one else to share my pain with. Then after finding the truth about dear old Dad, it only made things worse. Turning my loneliness into anger, and then fueling that anger into pure rage when Redfield decided to spill the beans about his death at the worst time possible. Oh boy, I had never been that pissed in my entire life... Now I find out that I'm actually not alone, that I'm not the only one. I have a little sister... I'd never thought I would have a younger sibling, or be a big brother for that matter. After everything I've went through in past few years, a lot has changed. Even for me and you as well. Now here we, on a private plane, on our way to Washington. To go help save my baby sister's life. Where my blood is needed once more." I wrapped my arm around Sherryโ€”pulling her close to me.

"And I'll always be there by your side," She added. Sherry grabbed my handโ€”intertwining her fingers with mine. She laid her head on top of my right shoulder, while resting one hand on her stomach.

"I love you super girl."

"I love you too, Jake," She replied. I planted a kiss on her temple, before leaning back against my seat, as the plane began to take off.
