thea gravel is chosen from a bowl of names for the 66th hunger games at only sixteen years old. terrified and shaking, she joins her opponent atom on stage, staring straight into the crowd with one thought: she's going to die. her father, a past victor himself, tried to strategize her without falling under the unfair capitol's eyes. thea was against others with more experience, more skills than she had. she doesn't believe she has a chance.

except, she really does. when thea grows protective of the boy atom, they stay under the radar, far away from their enemies. towards the end, they're chased into the grand finale by a career pack and it leads into the ultimate showdown. thea walks away with a crown and bloodied hands. she won at the cost of her sanity. when thea returned home, she can see the way her family, mostly her siblings, stare at her with fear in their eyes. she doesn't apologize, but hears what the media says. she's a psycho, a storm with skin, and a weapon to be feared. eventually, thea believed everything said about her, deciding to embrace her new title. it meant she was isolated, cut off from people considered normal, and she had a hunch that the capitol preferred it that way. she was easier to control; only a puppet in their games.

however, thea gets a sudden hit of realization being forced out of hiding. her name is read from a paper drawn out of a bowl once again for the seventy-fifth hunger games. furious and full of hate, thea will do anything and everything it takes to overthrow the capitol even if it cost her sanity - again.

circe romero, meanwhile, wins her games two years later at the same age doing what she knew best: hacking meat. district ten was known for raising the capitol's livestock, and her father owned a popular butcher shop that was known for feeding the hungry around them, sharing what they could. circe was punished when snow caught word of their activities. although their actions weren't technically illegal, he rigged the sixty-eighth games so her name was picked on the reaping to make a statement.

the only message that got across was that circe romero was bloodthirsty and brutal when faced with survival. her most memorable kills were beheading her district partner for his betrayal at the beginning and drowning a district two career in quicksand before strangling their partner in a fit of hot rage at the end. exhausted, she thought she was dead. then she was very much the opposite... until she actually felt dead again.

victory wasn't as sweet as circe imagined. in fact, it tasted a lot like the warm, bitterness of blood, and she would know as much. panem wanted to know all about circe and doted upon her in a way that snow caught onto. he could have easily gotten rid of her for her survival, but thought better of it afterward. besides, it was easier to have a desirable with the threats of her loved ones and district than another body to toss away. circe has wanted to crawl out of her skin since day one, but she must keep playing the role the capitol wants to see. truth is, she would rather see what snow looks like from the inside out. and joining the rebellion seems just the way to do that.

🔥 a u t h o r ' s n o t e ༻¨*:· wowza i rewatched the hunger games series and had to come back to this plot i created LITERALLY forever ago. however, this time i added her love interest in a different way!! so happy to also introduce circe romero. thea gravel and her are so amazing and i feel like i'm gonna stick with the plot this time. so, the first part is going to be switching between them remembering their games and catching fire - so you'll see what i mean once i go back and get the chapters published again. this is also gonna tag on a bit to my tbosbas, circe will remind snow a lot of athena, so i can't wait to make some parallels. stick around for a really sad time! ❤️
