"...here's your coffee," Bokuto said as he placed a mug next to Akaashi, the other gave him a subtle nod and continued writing, no glances or words exchanged once again. Bokuto sighed heavily, his strong hands found their ways to Akaashi's slumped shoulders as he started massaging them. "At least tell me one word, Akaashi..."

"I'm busy...", Akaashi said quietly, not moving from his position at all.

"I know, but you need a break right now. If you don't take a break, I will force you to" Bokuto sighed once more, he felt like he just got 20 years ripped away from his lifespan, Akaashi was a mess, but there was no reason to be.

'X' is gone, at least for now. The general public was going out again, to bars to restaurants, at night, and whatnot. It's been almost three months since the last killing was confirmed to be X's. They found the victim in his own home after he failed to show up for work, a kindergarten teacher who has never hurt a fly in his entire life - that was the last one for now. The police and other forces were beginning to settle down, for now, the public had other issues to complain about, such as the cancelation of a festival or the fact that the most popular diner ran out of meat and couldn't operate for half a day. Life was beginning to come back to its original place, after months of terror the nights were finally silent.

Roy could finally breathe, his routine was slowly readjusting itself too. The pressure he felt had faded away, for now, he could calmly focus on all the evidence they had even if it wasn't much, he could finally go home in peace to his wife Riza and enjoy his evenings... the only one struggling was Akaashi.

"Hmm? And how would you do that?" Akaashi asked quietly, his eyes not moving from the piece of paper in front of him, the letters had become a blur. Without another word, Bokuto yanked the chair away from the table (a/n YANK), Akaashi didn't even have a spare second to comprehend whatever was going on before Bokuto picked him up and threw him over his shoulder. "Bokuto! Put me down!", Akaashi exclaimed, but the other had no intention to listen.

Bokuto made his way to the bedroom and threw Akaashi on the bed, he stared at him for a few seconds before sighing. He sighs too much these days, all because his boyfriend refuses to rest... "Akaashi, please, rest at least a bit", Bokuto begged.

"I have no time to rest" Akaashi answered, but he knew he couldn't resist Bokuto's puppy eyes.

"When I go to sleep, you are working. When I wake up, you are working. When I go and come back from work you are still slumped over that desk. What is wrong? Why are you so obsessed with work? I know that something is wrong...", Bokuto sat down on the bed next to Akaashi and took his hand, drawing circles on the back of his palm. "I just... It hurts to see you like this..."

Akaashi... had no excuse. He took up minor cases to get his mind off of everything that was happening around him, he was trying to abstain from that gruesome hobby of his, but it had already taken too much of a toll on him.

Nightmares upon nightmares, upon nightmares. Every single time he closed his eyes he could see them, all of them, their bodies bleeding as they stepped closer to Akaashi, leaving bloody footprints behind. They kept on screaming at him, they would flail their arms around and splash blood everywhere, once they would get close their bodies would all fall at Akaashi's feet and then... he would see Bokuto, Roy and Daichi standing there - they would look at him with tears in their eyes before screaming at him as well. Well, Bokuto would stay quiet and just let the tears roll down. Before Akaashi can answer to explain himself they would all fall, their bodies full of wounds as they whisper how much they hate him.

Akaashi couldn't sleep, no, seeing Bokuto's mutilated body had too much of an effect on him. Adding up to his nightmares was constant paranoia and anxiety, as much as he liked to bask in the sun of his crimes, the paranoia within him would make him panic whenever anyone would stop him or whenever someone would knock on the door. What if it's the police? What if it's Roy, finally here to take him away? What if... Bokuto finally saw something he shouldn't have?

"I've been having bad dreams..." Akaashi admitted, he looked up and into Bokuto's eyes, the latter was a worried mess already. "Sorry, I'm just trying to get away from them, so I'm working..."

"Akaashi... Why didn't you tell me earlier?" Bokuto watched as Akaashi slowly relaxed.

"I knew you would be worried" Akaashi managed to squeeze out a small smile. Without much deliberation,  Bokuto pushed Akaashi down, he scooted right next to him and pulled him into his embrace. The warmth of Bokuto's body and the sound of his heartbeat made Akaashi realize just how much he had been neglecting the other. "I'm sorry for being like that"

"Don't apologize, you had a reason to. If I hold you... maybe you can get some rest. Why don't you try to sleep for a bit?" Bokuto suggested, but once he got no response from Akaashi he finally looked down at him, the other had already passed out - after days of consuming coffee and energy drinks he finally felt safe enough to catch some rest, the rhythmic beat of Bokuto's heart was like the finest lullaby.

Hours passed, neither of them was sure how many, Akaashi slept until his phone rang the twenty-second time and he picked up out of pure spite. He squinted his eyes at the screen, it was Roy, as usual. Bokuto pulled Akaashi closer in his sleep, but after a minute of struggle, the other managed to get out. "Yeah?", he asked he picked up, his paranoia kicking in as he heard Roy sigh.

"Akaashi... is there something you want to tell me?" Roy's voice sounded tired and hoarse, Akaashi glanced at the electronic clock, 00:44 it showed, not exactly business hours.

"Not really, why?" Akaashi had to sound confident, he cannot let anything slip by.

"Well... I heard you took up many cases and I know its not like you to just do that, you like to focus on a case and do research. So, what is going on? Troubles with Bokuto?" Akaashi breathed a sigh of relief, Roy still has no clue.

"It's fine... We got our issues sorted, I'm more curious as to why you're calling me this late. Riza not with you?" Akaashi let out a chuckle, his fatigue had washed away and for once he felt good enough to take a walk.

"Riza is sleeping, I was on the call with Daichi till late. He's was researching deep into Kageyama's and Hinata's cases until he got a call that they managed to track Sugawara once again" on the other line Akaashi could hear Roy sipping on what he guessed could only be whiskey.

"I feel so bad for him... So, what about Sugawara?", Akaashi snickered away from the microphone, oh Roy, you have no idea who you have been working with, who you have been presenting all the evidence to. "He's good at hiding..."

"Yeah, he is. They tracked him down in South Korea. Someone reported seeing him and the CCTV cameras confirmed it. Question is, how did he leave Japan and how did he go unnoticed all this time?" Roy took a sip of his whiskey once again, at least X was being quiet, so that's one less problem to worry about. "I should stop keeping you awake, Riza will yell at me if she wakes up and I'm not there"

"Yeah, get some rest, you've been working hard", they said their goodbyes and Akaashi hung up. He got an urge to go outside, see the night sky, maybe get something from McDonald's, whatever the sidewalks take him. He placed his phone on the table to headed out, Akaashi didn't bother to even put an outfit together, he just slipped in his jacket and went out the door.

The night was breezy and without a thought in his head, Akaashi's feet took him to a nearby park. The dim lights there were barely enough to see where you were going, Akaashi put his hands in his pockets, unfortunately to whoever would pass him, Akaashi's knife was in those very pockets. He didn't expect it to be there, he had forgotten he put it there, but the moment his fingers touched that cold metal he felt himself falling deep into his darkest desires. The nightmares, they would go away if he only did what he wanted to do, what the public deems a crime, but to him it was medicine.

In the corner of his eyes, way down by a small pond in the park, he saw someone - a mistake from their side and such unfortunate fate to be out during this one night. Well, it's not like the world will miss one more person, right?
