"Any news?" Roy marched into the room without even knocking, throwing everyone off for just a few seconds.
"No, unfortunately not" Kageyama sighed, he gripped the coffee mug tighter as he continued staring at the bulletin board. Nothing was making sense.
Non of this made any sense at all! All these victims were not related at all apart from the fact they were all of asian descent. The murders were just getting more and more gruesome, X was getting bolder and bolder - and yet they couldn't do anything about it.
"Tobio, do you want to take a break? You really don't have to help us right now." Roy startled Kageyama by putting his hand on the younger one's shoulder.
Kageyama simply shook his head. "I don't have time to rest..."
He tried avoiding those thoughts. He wanted to forget everything, but he couldn't. The moment he saw Hinata's body, his heart shattered into a million pieces. Stabbing him, burning his skin and just slicing him wasn't enough. No. X just had to sew his mouth shut.
This was a declaration of war and Kageyama was willing to do anything to get to the bottom of this, even if it meant finding that sick bastard on his own. He was willing to work 24/7 if it meant that the person who took his Hinata away will be put behind bars.
"Bad news!"
Everyone's eyes fell on the police officer who had just busted into the room. Just from his eyes it was easy to understand... another victim.
"I'm going. Tobio, are you coming with me?" Roy asked in hopes that the other would decline. Kageyama simply stood up and nodded without a word, his determination to catch X was getting the best of him.
The car ride was silent, Roy didn't dare ask any questions. He couldn't even imagine the pain Tobio was going through. He momentarily transferred here in order to escape the fact that his senior was a killer, and now his partner, the one he had known since they were babies, was dead.
This was personal.
The crime scene, as usual was a relatively empty place. Sandwiched in between to abandoned buildings was an alley, mostly known to be a place full of drug dealers and cultists. The atmosphere itself was more than terrifying, but it got even worse as the body came into view. It laid there, on the dirty ground. A small pool of blood had formed around the body of the boy, and not surprising at all - there was an X slashed on his face.
The view was...disgusting. It drove several police officers away, but Roy was used to them at this point. His eyes fell on Tobio, who had an unreadable expression on his face. He looked confused, scared, shocked and angry at the same time.
And there was a reason for that. Kageyama could swear he had seen that face before. It was stored in his memory, that young boy, he couldn't quite put his finger on it.
Yet.
It didn't take much time for him to remember. The body was brought back to the lab, DNA samples were taken and soon they found his identity. It was at that point when Kageyama was suddenly hit by realization. It was the boy... the same boy he had seen strolling into Akaashi's house last night.
Last night....
No, it couldn't be, right? This is all just a funny coincidence? No way Akaashi would do anything like that. Akaashi was empathetic, kind, loving and caring - no way he could hurt another human being, right? Kageyama wanted to believe that, but he couldn't help but doubt his mentor.
He needed answers.
Akaashi, in the mean time, was at home, reading the newspaper and stroking his own ego. All this panic about X made him satisfied, he wanted more though. He needed more. He wanted the town to go into mass hysteria, of course they would, if the news about Hinata were released. To think they would collectively hide all the information about Hinata's death made Akaashi indescribably mad.
Bokuto was still at his parents, he called him late at night when Akaashi was in a middle of something, good thing Goshiki had fainted before that and Akaashi could talk without any troubles.
To say the truth, he missed Bokuto. He wanted to hug him and press his head against his strong chest. Was it too much to ask for? If Akaashi had told him that, he would have surely returned and given Akaashi all the attention that he wants.
He sighed before putting down the newspaper. He craved his touch, his lips... It was like an addiction. To tell the truth, Bokuto was the only reason why Akaashi was still holding up well, his love kept him sane on a considerable level. His thoughts were interrupted by a door bell.
Akaashi wasn't expecting any guests, so this pissed him off greatly. He stomped to the door angrily and swung the door open only to see Kageyama.
"Tobio, you surprised me, I wasn't expecting guests" Akaashi said in a nice tone, it wouldn't be good if he just exploded in front of Kageyama, right?
"Sorry for that.. I just had a couple of questions" the other quietly stood in the living room, there was nothing out of the ordinary. No traces of fighting, no traces of blood, just a normal living room.
"What is it? You want any tea?" Akaashi asked, not suspecting a thing.
"No.." Kageyama thought about not asking him anything, it was extremely unlikely that Akaashi had anything to do with the victim. And yet, he wanted to, he wanted answers so bad he was willing to suspect his mentor. "You know Goshiki Tsutomu?"
Akaashi froze in his place, this was the first time someone confronted him like that. What was he supposed to say back? One wrong word and his cover will be blown.
"We found a new victim today. Teenager, his parents said he left to meet up with friends and never returned... I think I saw you with him yesterday. If you know anything, it would help us greatly" Kageyama continued digging his own grave.
For a moment there Akaashi felt as if his cover had been blown, but he soon came back to his senses. There is not a person on earth who could make him feel scared, not a person who could escape from his grip alive - this was a simple truth Akaashi had come into terms with.
Who cared about his answers now? Not like Kageyama would escape anyway, he would try to fight Akaashi, he would try to arrest him - but to no avail.
"Yeah I do know him" Akaashi said with confidence. He could see his reflection in the cup of tea, his eyes were as dark as the bottom of the ocean. Full of mystery, but ice cold. He turned to Tobio who was staring back at him with confusion, perhaps it wasn't an answer he was expecting.
"How.. do you know him?" Kageyama could feel his knees turning into jelly, the air got colder the moment he looked into Akaashi's eyes. All his inner instincts were telling him to run, adrenaline was pumping through his veins, he was chained up in fear - but Kageyama stood there, he didn't want to trust himself. Akaashi is his mentor, he trusts him with his life, right?
"We met last night. What about it?" Akaashi walked closer to Kageyama. "Frozen in fear" would be the right way to describe how Kageyama was feeling, he didn't dare to move a muscle. Akaashi's cold hand slithered on his shoulder. "Are you scared of me?"
That was a question Kageyama never thought would shake him to his very core.
"Akaashi-san... Did.." Kageyama wanted to ask that god-forbidden questions, but was it worth it? He could feel Akaashi's eyes on him, following the way his chest moved as Kageyama breathed.
"Just ask me the question"
"Did.. did you kill him? No way, right? You killing him would mean that you're X, and that's ridiculous, right?"
"What if I said yes?"
"You're lying...."
Tears started swelling up in Kageyama's eyes. He didn't want to believe it, he wasn't going to believe it. Akaashi was just playing with him, he was just joking...
"I was planning to take a small break, but I can't let you go now. So, come with me, will you?"
"Come where?"
"To my special room"

Hello, hope you enjoyed this!
I didn't include the actual murder scene because I felt like it would ruin the mood of the chapter.
Anyway, hope you find this enjoyable to read and see you next chapter!
