track two : here comes the sun
DAISY JONES AND THE SIX
002. | "come and get it"
JENNY: I remember meeting Camila Alvarez like it was yesterday; our washer and dryer had just broken at home. I came in to bug Billy while he was washing laundry, and that's when I saw him making a fool out of himself in front of Camila.
CAMILA ALVAREZ (billy dunne's wife): One of the reasons I even agreed to go out with Billy was because of Jenny, she walked into that laundromat and even though she spent most of the time making fun of him. She's also quite convincing, but he was also Billy freaking Dunne.
Billy was failing and failing hard, and the fact that the youngest Dunne child had walked in with her hands full of their last load of laundry was his worst nightmare. Especially when the last thing he had said to the beautiful girl in front of him was, "Well, how about this... you give me your number, and I'll write you a song.."
Jenny groaned as she walked in to hear Billy's stupid lines. "Oh god, Billy, leave the poor girl alone," she said, handing off Graham's laundry. "I'll write you a song." She mimicked him, Billy just glared back at her. She had the worst timing.
"I'm Jenny, by the way." She stuck her hand out towards the girl. Camila knew who she was, Billy's younger sister. She seemed to be close with her brother, who was always around. "The famous band player's sister." Billy rolled his eyes as the girl accepted his sister's handshake.
"Camila, it's nice to meet you." She chuckled.
JENNY: Then Billy sent me outside; usually, I wouldn't have listened, but he seemed into this girl. I didn't wanna be blamed if he blew it.
She sat on the sidewalk outside of the laundromat, being that her older brother had snatched the car keys from her when she walked in. Bored as all hell, until she watched as Camila came out and Billy was still inside. She quickly got up and bounced in front of the older girl.
"Hi again." Jenny smiled; this was her chance to score her brother, his dream girl.
"Hey, Jenny!" Camila smiled back.
CAMILA: I thought Jenny was adorable when I met her, and still, to this day, her impression of Billy, and I meeting it still always makes me laugh. So I was glad when she stopped me.
"Look, I wouldn't blame you if you never called my brother. I mean, his pickup line was really stupid." Jenny started on her to speak, and Camila giggled at her words.
"But I promise he's not that bad; all the boys in the band kinda think they're the shit right now, but it will fade. So consider giving him a chance, and if it goes badly, I'll buy you dinner, but if it goes well, you buy me dinner." Jenny Dunne was the world's best wingman.
Cami smiled at her. The sheer amount of hope in that young girl's face was enough for her to say. "Okay, I'm convinced."
JENNY: We went out for dinner a year later.
CAMILA: And I was the one who ended up buying it.
WARREN: For that next year, it felt like all we did was practice. If my hands were red and raw by the time I got to bed, I knew it was a good day.
EDDIE: Jenny and Camila came to every rehearsal; Jen liked the gigs, but I'm pretty sure Cami dragged her kicking and screaming to band practice.
The girl lounged on Chuck Loving's couch, listening to the boys practice; Camila went around filming them with her camera. Jenny sat there studying the way Eddie strummed his guitar strings watching how he moved from each fret.
She was so in awe of his playing that she didn't even realize that half of the boys had gone on a little break. Cami sat beside her, "You play, right?" She asked the younger girl. "Hmm?" Jenny looked at her brother's girlfriend.
"The guitar? Billy says you play, but I've never heard you." Cami repeated, noticing how she watched Eddie play, but her eyes weren't focused on him; they were on his guitar. "A little bit, I guess," Jenny mumbled. She loved playing the guitar, but now that her brothers were big rock stars in Pittsburgh, she hadn't been into it.
"A little? I'm pretty sure she plays better than I do." Graham flopped down on the couch beside his younger sister wrapping an arm around her shoulder. "Shut up." Jenny punched her brother's arm in embarrassment.
Camila got up and grabbed Graham's guitar, and tried to push it into her arms. "Play me something." Jenny looked up and shook her head no. "C'mon Jen, It's just me, Cami and Eddie." Graham encouraged his little sister to get up there.
When Graham and Jenny were little, all they did was play together, but since the band, he had also noticed her interest in music had started to go away.
She looked at Eddie, and he gave her a little nod and a smile of encouragement. "I don't even know what to play!" Jenny exclaimed.
"Here Comes the Sun by The Beatles," Eddie suggested, everyone looked at him in confusion. Eddie was a man of pure rock and roll, not Folk-Pop. "She's been humming it all week, so I got the record; it's not bad," he explained his knowledge of the song.
She sighed, grabbed the guitar out of Cami's hand and traded spots with Eddie. She took a deep breath as everyone stared at her and slowly started strumming the first chord of the song and started playing. She let herself relax into the music and started singing. "Here comes the sun, doo-dun-doo-doo."
Her voice was silky sweet. Camila and Eddie watched in awe, and Graham sat there smirking. Knowing his sister was good, she was really good.
EDDIE: When I heard Jenny play, I was impressed, but the moment she started singing, I was in awe. To this day, it's one of my favourite sounds I've ever heard. I love that song, but only when she sings it.
"Little darling, the smile's returning to their faces Little darling, it seems like years since it's been here." She continued to sing, smiling into the mic.
GRAHAM: I told them she could play, and she sings beautifully.
CAMILA: I made her record her version of Here Comes the Sun. That's how much I adored it. I adored her.
As she got to the chorus, Warren, Billy, and Chuck walked into the garage, and she froze and stopped playing. "I was just messing around," Jenny told them as they all just stared at her.
"Man, keep going." Warren smiled.
"C'mon, kid, I don't wanna stop you now." Billy grinned at his younger sister.
So Jenny played, and she sang until everyone clapped for her, and rehearsal went on as usual.
JENNY: No they didn't let me in the band when I played for them. Yes it's still because of Billy.
As Jenny and Camila began to walk to the car Eddie chased after the two. "I think someone wants to talk to you." Camila whispered into her ear. She turned around to see Eddie right behind her.
"I'll meet you in the car Jen." Cami winked before leaving the two alone.
"What's up." She grinned at the boy. He stood in front of her one hand carrying his guitar case the other one in his pocket.
"You were amazing, I just didn't get to tell you before." He smiled.
Jenny's cheeks started to redden at his compliment. "Did you actually buy their record because I was humming it?" She asked.
"I um I just wanted to know what you were listening too." He stuttered not knowing how to admit that the only reason he got it was because he wanted to know what she liked.
"Edward rock and roll Roundtree, has a Beatles record. Those are word I'd never thought I'd say." Jenny smirked at him and he just smiled back at her.
EDDIE: When she smirked at me I just knew, I was fucked.
