"t-tobio," erena sobbed, launching herself into a tight hug with her boyfriend who had just arrived at the vending machine.

he blinked, confused, but returned the hug nonetheless. "erena. what happened?"

without really meaning to, the setter began stroking her brown hair in an effort to calm her down and still the tears running down her cheeks.

"t-tooru," she hiccupped. "h-he's leaving!"

"wait," kageyama blinked again. "what?"

she buried her head into his shoulder. "he's going abroad for volleyball. to damn brazil! that's on the other side of the world! at the most he can visit twice a year. but...that's not even a lot."

on the inside, kageyama was busy thinking about how people could stand on the other side of the world without falling off. but he pushed that aside since more urgent matters were at hand. unfortunately, he was not the best at comforting people. "oh. i-i'm sorry?"

erena let out a sound that was either a chuckle or a sob. perhaps both. "you really are helpless at comforting people, aren't you?"

"i'm sorry," kageyama bit his lip. 

she shook her head. "don't apologize. it's cute. that itself made me feel better."

erena leaned back, smiling at kageyama. he returned the smile, softly muttering, "i'm glad. but still. i'm sorry i can't comfort you when you're sad, even though i hate seeing you like that. maybe i should practice comforting people?"

the brunette laughed, a rather beautiful sight to kageyama considering she had just finished crying. "no, don't practice. i like the way you are now."

kageyama gently smiled again, and then the two were enveloped in a comfortable silence as they stayed there, relishing in each other's presence.

"hey, erena?"

"hm?"

kageyama gazed at her. "i just wanted to let you know i won't ever leave you."

"promise?" erena asked, a big grin taking over her face as she extended her pinky.

kageyama intertwined her finger with his and shook it gently. and for the third time in five minutes, he smiled. "promise."
