chapter seventy four

Adena came back to her house the same day. She found with surprise that her parents were already there. For once she was welcomed home. It was really a happy birthday.

"When is Grandma coming?" asked Candace as Adena was setting the table with her wand, finally enjoying the freedom of using magic.

Adena turned at the voice.

"Oh, you're back? Happy birthday silly!" said the blonde girl, giving her sister a little tap on the arm.

"Thanks idiot," muttered the brunette with a smile.

"Did you have fun with your boy?" asked Candace, nudging her sister jokingly.

"Please stop, Mum wouldn't stop pestering me with questions when I arrived."

"I guess I look like her. Now answer me!"

"Well, it was fun."

"That's it? No crusty details?"

"Why do you want to know? You hate him and you hate this relationship..."

"Right, but I don't hate you as much so I'm curious."

"Well... we flew around London."

"Muggles didn't see you right?"

"Of course not, we were flying high."

"And you got a present?"

Adena, thought for a moment then answered casually, "An astronomy book."

"How original," said the eldest, rolling her eyes.

"I like it even though I already have some. All my books are different you know."

Before Candace could say anything, some noise was heard from the living-room.

"Isn't there anybody to welcome me, here?" said the loud voice of their grandmother.

They didn't hesitate to go meet her in the other room as she was just getting out of the fireplace. They hugged her one by one, and she smiled gently at them, her wrinkled eyes smiling as well.

"Here's your present big girl!" she said, handing her a package which revealed to be a new pair of shoes that included a polishing potion.

"Welcome, Mum," said their mother as she greeted her mother.

"Good evening Philomena," next said their father.

They all next sat themselves at the dinning table, enjoying the delicious dinner that Pimchin had made.

"So, how's your little comrade Jacob? Haven't seen him in a while," said the old woman. Jacob's family happened to live in Grandma Philomena's neighborhood. "Still not dating him?"

The girl almost choked on her food and her eyes widened before she baffled an answer, "No! Of course no! He's only a good friend!"

"Too bad I like this one. And he likes you very much too."

"There's no girl Jacob doesn't like..." muttered the brunette.

"He's a good guy right," agreed Juliet.

"Jacob's so funny and I can confirm he really doesn't like Adena!" added Candace in amusement.

"So, who do you like then?" The old woman was giving her a piercing stare through her big round spectacles.

Adena was slightly surprised by her grandmother as she always seemed to have a talent to read other people. When asked about it, she would say her wise age made her this way.

"How... how do you know..."

"You have that glint in your eyes. I had that gaze too when I fell in love with your grandfather. You also give me that impression, you're different."

Adena stared at her dumbfounded, everyone had gone quiet. She felt her cheeks grow hot at the sudden exposure from her grandmother. She wasn't explicit about her feelings towards Regulus but even her grandmother had noticed.

"Adena's blushing!" suddenly exclaimed Candace as she pointed her finger at her. The girl glared at her sister while their parents started laughing.

"So, you plan on telling me his name or no?" asked impatiently the woman while wearing a sly smirk.

"...Regulus..." she said, looking down. She was scared of what her grandmother could think of him.

"Last name?"

"Hm... Black..."

"A Black? Don't tell me those mental people still make children! And my own grandchild is even dating one of them!" exclaimed Philomena with a laugh.

Candace burst out laughing as well. Their grandmother had always been very funny, even though Adena didn't want to laugh at the moment.

"Grandma! Don't say anything mean about him, he's a good boy. Different from his family," she muttered the last part, still looking down.

"If you had told me Black first, I would have thought of Sirius. This one's a good boy. How many times did he visit me with your sister..." she said with a low chuckle.

"Maylyn and Sirius really like visiting you Grandma. I don't even have a choice anymore."

"Adena, why don't you invite your friends over before coming back to Hogwarts?" asked Juliet to her daughter.

"That could be fun. I should ask them if they're available."

She wasn't usually the one to ask to hang out, it made her feel a little uncomfortable having to organize something.

"Candace, could you bring us to the closest beach? Eugenia really wanted to see the sea."

"Yeah I can surely do that," answered the girl while munching on her food.

"Thanks."

They continued eating and Adena went to bed early. She liked to be back to her room, but she missed the presence of Regulus by her side. She even had a hard time falling asleep with every memory of the day and she felt content. She eventually fell asleep full of happiness.

The next day she woke up early since she had to ride the Knight Bus and be at London before 9am. She wished she could pass by Regulus' house on her way there, but it was on the opposite side of the city. She would pass by his house before coming back she thought.

Unsurprisingly, Jacob wasn't in the bus yet. As long as they weren't late it was fine for her, but she knew Jacob. After a few minutes of riding, the bus stopped in front of Jacob who quickly hopped on the bus.

"You're late idiot!" hissed Adena, frowning at him. He had a guilty grin on his face as he sat by her side quickly, to avoid falling with the bold movements of the vehicle.

"Sorry Adena, I woke up late."

"I noticed... we better not be late at the exam," she said through greeted teeth while glaring at him.

When they arrived, it was nine o'clock precisely. They ran through the crowd of people and arrived at the meeting place. Everyone looked at them because of their slight lateness but they tried to act innocent.

By the end of the test, both Adena and Jacob had succeeded.

"You finally got it," laughed the girl.

"Yeah, my parents will be proud. And Felix will stop making fun of me that git..."

"For sure since it was unexpected."

"Shut up idiot!"

She laughed again then said, "Would you like to meet with the others tomorrow? At my place?"

"One last day to have fun before school?"

"Exactly."

"Okay then. I guess the others can too."

"I'll send them letters when I get home."

"That's bloody great! I'll come by your place tomorrow!"

He disappeared from her view after saying this. Adena quickly disappeared too after. The girl appeared at 12 Grimauld Place. She knocked on the door, waited a few seconds before the door slide opened to reveal Kreacher who let her in. And all of the sudden, she appeared in her boyfriend's room.

Regulus jumped in surprise at the sight then cursed under his breath when he calmed down, which made Adena laughed.

"Nice greeting."

"You scared me dummy," he muttered walking to her and offering her a sweet kiss to which she responded with all her love.

"That was funny..."

"Don't make fun of me," he hissed but she couldn't help laughing.

"Anyway, you could congratulate me."

"Congratulations, even though I'm not even surprised."

"Jacob got it too, after the third try-out."

"What an idiot, but at last he got it," sighed Regulus and the girl laughed again.

"I know... by the way, my grandmother had dinner with us yesterday and... she could guess I was dating... and so I talked about you."

"Really? And what did she say?"

Adena froze a little before saying, "Hm, nothing in particular. However, I'd like you to meet her one day. She means a lot to me you see..."

"I'll meet her one day then, don't worry. With your parents as well."

"Great, I'm so happy." And she smiled brightly. She started hugging him again. "I have to leave, can't wait to see you again."

"It will only be a matter of five days you know," he said, holding her tightly.

"I know, I'm counting the days until going back."

"But you actually enjoyed these holidays, right?"

"I did yeah, especially because you made it so great," she whispered to him. She lifted up her head to place a gentle kiss on his cheek, smiling at him.

"I love you. Come back safe."

"I will. Love you too." She detached herself and finally left him.
