chapter one hundred and four
The young girl was glad she got news from Regulus soon after, it was much needed.
'Dear Adena,
Firstly, I hope you are doing well, and you did not worry about me.
I got home safely, took some rest and have been feeling much better thanks to your good care. Thank you very much, it would have been more difficult if you had not been there at that moment. Every day I wonder what I could be if you were not by my side, and what happened that day just proves that I would not be anything. I will never be able to thank you enough for what you did to me and what you brought to me. So, I will just say it again, I am really grateful to have you by my side.
I will come visit you in a few days. Take good care of yourself while I am not here.
I love you.
Yours truly,
Regulus'
A huge amount of happiness bloomed inside her as she finished reading. There was always something special about Regulus' letters, something that made her feel some type of way. She read and read again his words, like she had done with his other letters before. It was always written in the same green ink and same elegant and neat handwriting. Those were so precious for her.
Like he mentioned in his letter, Regulus came to visit Adena a few days later. It was Saturday morning and Adena was conversing with her mother in her bedroom. Her health had improved even more, and she was now able to have casual discussions which reassured Adena very much.
"Miss Adena. Mister Regulus has just arrived," said the small voice of Pimchin as she appeared in the room.
Adena turned away from her mother to look at Pimchin. "Is that so? I'll go meet him then."
She left the room in order to greet her boyfriend. He was waiting by the staircase, in the entrance hall. A grin placed itself on her face upon noticing his much healthy stature. She walked down until reaching his side. The girl's arms tried to hug him, but she retreated back, afraid she would hurt him.
"What are you doing? I'm feeling much better, don't worry..." he told her, offering a smile to his girlfriend as his strong arms encaged her smaller figure against his chest.
"Are you completely sure? I'll do a check-up anyway..." she murmured against his torso as her arms snaked around his neck, and he laughed at this. The smell of blood that used to float around him a few days ago had disappeared and his usual intoxicating scent was back. She took a deep breath, letting his familiar sweet scent take control of her for a few seconds. Adena lifted up her head then, and Regulus was staring down at her. His grinning lips were an invitation that she couldn't decline and so, she stood on her tiptoes and kissed him without hesitation. It felt like they hadn't kissed in forever, making every one of their movement very passionate, full of love, and full of comfort. Adena was so enchanted by his kiss that she had no wish to let go of him. It always felt so perfect, she was living again every time they would kiss.
They parted after a while and their warm breathes came brushing on each other's lips. Regulus was fondly looking into his girlfriend's hazel eyes, shining brightly in happiness.
"Shouldn't we do that elsewhere? Your sister might come down anytime."
At these words, the beautiful glint in her eyes faded out and she looked away, her smile disappeared as well.
"What? What happened?" asked Regulus, a little alarmed.
She stayed quiet, detaching herself from him. The girl grabbed his hand, leading him upstairs. The raven-haired male could see something was off and something had definitely happened with her sister.
Once in her room, she made him sit on the bed, and kneeled on the floor to grab the first aid kit under her bed. She sat in silence next to him and he was still watching her worriedly.
"Adena..." he sighed.
She tried to keep her calm as she discarded him of his shirt, choosing to check on his chest wound first to avoid meeting his gaze.
"She isn't here right? She came back?"
"Yes..." spoke the girl almost inaudibly as she removed the band aid to look at the scar in the middle of his torso.
"Another argument?" he asked softly, trying not too sound too insistent.
She bit down her lower lip anxiously before replying. "Yes..."
"Do you want to talk about it?"
She stopped her movements, in the middle of cleaning the wound. Her hand fell on his lap and her head laid on his shoulder.
"She left me. She talked about your fight and I think it was too much for her, and she couldn't bear it. I think... she hates me..." said Adena, her voice trembling.
"Rather than you, I think she hates me."
"Maybe. But she chose to cut ties with me and blamed me for our ruined relationship."
"You know it's not your fault, right? She can't accept your happiness," he told her, taking a hold of her hand, interlocking, their fingers.
"I know. That's what I thought..."
"You still have me. I may be not like your sister but I'm still with you."
"Yeah thank you," she said, smiling a little.
She lifted up her head, deciding to continue cleaning his wound. Before she could move her hand, he brought it to his lips, kissing it softly. And she looked up to him. Regulus' other hand went to her face, wiping off the small tears welling up at the corner of her eyes. She offered him a small grin as she continued to wipe his scar slightly before going to his forehead. Their faces were so close, and she couldn't help but smile when she felt his intense gaze not leaving her face.
"I like it when you smile like this," he whispered, and she finally looked down into his eyes. She placed the cotton in the first aid kit and before she could do anything else, the boy grabbed her waist and positioned her on his lap, making her yelp in surprise. Adena's hand started caressing his cheek as they stared lovingly at each other.
"Tomorrow's your birthday."
"That's right. Thanks for remembering."
He chuckled lightly before speaking again, "My parents are out this weekend, how about you come to my house."
His words made her freeze in place for a moment. Come to his house, leaving her mother the whole day until her father would come back. He noticed the drop of mood by looking at her face.
"It won't be long. You'd come back tomorrow night or on Monday maybe..."
"I'm not sure. You know, my mum..."
"I know I know. But she's feeling better."
"I can't help feeling worried..."
"Okay... just finish putting on that band aid then," he concluded curtly.
She got up from his lap and did as he said. For a moment, she felt guilty about ruining the mood and making him upset by declining his offer, he was always so patient with her, maybe he was tired of that. They both stayed silent as she finished patching him up. Once she was done, he put back his shirt on and started leaving her bedroom. The girl confused, followed him, fearing he would leave without any word, but to her surprise, he made his way to her mother's bedroom.
"Good morning Mrs Winsten," he said as he entered the room after knocking on the door, not forgetting his manners obviously.
"Good morning Regulus. How are you my dear?" asked the woman smiling gently at him.
"Fine thank you... I have a favor."
"Go ahead, I'm listening."
"Do you accept that I invite Adena to my house this weekend to celebrate her birthday?" he asked politely but his tone and eyes reflected seriousness.
Adena who was behind him, stared in shock as he expressed his thoughts.
"Mum..." she tried but her mother interrupted her.
"Of course, Regulus. She needs to go out a little."
"Mum is that okay?" asked worriedly Adena.
"It's totally fine. And if you worry so much, I'll ask your sister to come."
"Hm, please do that."
"Then it's settled. You two, you can leave, and do not worry about me."
"Thank you. Take care of yourself," finally said Regulus before turning around.
Adena's eyes were still watching the scene in shock.
"Let's go," he whispered to her as he came to her side.
The boy took a hold of her hand, dragging her outside without her letting out any complain.
"You're sly..." said the girl once the door was closed.
"I'm a Slytherin, don't forget," he told her, smirking at her.
Then she remembered something and instantly asked, "You got your N.E.W.Ts results, right?"
"Yeah. I got my seven N.E.W.Ts. You got them all too I suppose."
"Yeah I did," she answered with a proud smile.
He loved seeing a smile back on her face, she was happy, and it was such a beautiful sight.
author's note: not to worry anyone but things will go downhill from now on, it's the end...
