Chapter One
With a smile on her face, and tears in her eyes, Venessa hugged her aunt tightly. "I'm going to miss you so much," her relative sobbed, making Venessa cry as well.
As a tear rolled down the girl's cheek she pulled away, "You promised you wouldn't make me cry! You're lucky I don't have makeup on right now."
Her aunt laughed and then sighed, "I know, I know. I just can't believe it."
Venessa shook her head, "Me neither, I'm finally going to live out my dream."
"Then I guess I better leave you to it then huh?" her aunt stated as she grabbed her purse.
Before she left, Venessa pulled her back into a tight hug. "I love you so much," she whispered. Her aunt pulled away and walked to the door, "I love you to Venessa."
And with that the only family Venessa had left, walked out of her dorm room. The young woman smiled to herself as she started to unpack.
Her first day of college did start tomorrow, and her new life started today. Eager to begin, Venessa plugged in her ear buds and began to sing along as she unpacked. An hour or so had passed by and the dark haired girl was almost finished.
She picked up a box and spun around, running smack into someone. The girl went tumbling to the ground, and she hit with a hard thud. Venessa shook her head and muttered, "Good going dumbass."
Luckily there wasn't anything in the box, because with Venessa's luck it would have gone everywhere. With an eye roll, Venessa moved her hair out of her face and looked up, there stood a girl with dark blue hair.
Her hair was half shaved, she was dressed in a leather jacket, pink crop top, white jeans, and black combat boots. The girl had on bold makeup and a nose ring.
She was pretty, no, she was sexy. And very intimidating. However the colorful girl held out her hand, a warm smile plastered on her face.
Venessa took the offer, and once on her feet she apologized, "I'm so sorry." "Don't worry about it. I'm Octavia Wells," she stated, plopping on her side of the room.
"Okay so a few things you should know about me," Octavia started, "I throw a lot of parties, not here of course. I'm stubborn as anything and I'm here to have fun and get laid, I have to break my high school record."
Venessa laughed and sat on her newly made bed, "Well first off, I'm Venessa. I'm quite and I won't snitch, so your secrets are safe with me. I'm here to pass, and have some fun."
"You're a virgin aren't you?" Octavia asked, reading the girl like a book. Venessa shook her head and laughed, it's not like she was ashamed. The fact was that she had never found anyone she loved.
Sure she had had boyfriends and they had all tried, but she wanted it to be with someone she loved, and she didn't love any of those boys. "Well you're hot and there are plenty of boys to go around. So if you ever want to get it out of the way let me know," her new roommate laughed.
Venessa laughed as well, a warm feeling forming. She could feel a new friendship coming, and that's exactly what she needed. The girls talked and laughed all night, but soon drowsiness took over the two. And Venessa fell soundly asleep.
The next day the girls alarm clock went off. Venessa opened her eyes and slammed her hand on the button, stopping the silence. She rubbed her eyes and pulled her covers off of her. The raven haired girl stood, promptly making her bed.
Venessa then turned around noticing that her roommate wasn't there. She most likely had an early class, Venessa's first class didn't start until ten, and it was currently nine. The girl made her way to the bathroom, brushing through her tangled hair, and then brushing her teeth. Turning on the shower, Venessa stripped herself of her clothing. Careful talking of the cloth bracelet that covered her scar.
Venessa still remembered that night, the pain was as clear as day, even if the other stuff was fuzzy. She would sometimes even have nightmares about the pain. The scar was the one thing that Venessa was self conscious about. So she covered it up. Wearing bracelets, long sleeves, or a wrap on it.
At first it didn't bother her, but the kids started to make fun of her. Saying she had tried to take her own life, even though it wasn't true. Sure once upon a time Venessa thought about it, but she never did. She was never serious. Because the reason she got her scar, the story behind it made her strong.
After that night, Venessa learned all types of self defense. She didn't want to be that helpless little girl who needed a boy to save her. As these thoughts flowed through her mind, Venessa let the water fall around her. With the wetness of the shower surrounding her body, Venessa cleaned herself quickly, singing as she went.
A few minutes later she was out and letting her wet hair air dry. As her hair curled up, Venessa applied light makeup. It was just mascara, and lipgloss, nothing special. Soon after completing the natural look, Venessa put on a light baby blue dress. It had long sleeves, and fell right before her knees. She then slipped on some white converse, grabbed her book bag, and headed out of the door. Venessa looked down at her schedule.
Her first class was trigonometry with Mrs. Clayton, it was her only class of the day. Venessa checked her watch and figured she had time for coffee, which she did.
With her caramel frappuccino in hand, Venessa took a seat in the back of the class. That way if she was having a bad day she could sleep in class, increasing her chances of not being caught.
People started to pile in the room, soon filling with no chairs left available. However Venessa paid no mind as she studied her book. But the she heard someone next to her speak, "Damn it not again."
The soft voice somehow got Venessa to look up from her book. She stared at the boy next to her. he was digging through his backpack.
"Are you okay?" the girl asked, wanting to help if she could. The boy then snapped up and hit his head on the desk, causing Venessa to start giggling. The boy rubbed his head as he fully turned around and looked at who had spoke.
He had bright red hair and sparkling green eyes, hidden behind thick glasses, which were full of a familiar warmth. A wave washed over Venessa as she stared at the boy, "Do I know you?"
The boy blinked and a slight panic flooded his body, making him tense, "I don't believe so."
"What's your name?" she asked curious about who this boy was. "Xander Wilde," he stated, fidgeting with his hands.
"Huh, I guess I don't know you. Sorry you just remind me of someone from a long time ago. I'm Venessa Foster by the way," the girl explained, not wanting to seem like creep or a weirdo.
She could see Xander instantly relax, "It's perfectly fine. It's nice to meet you." He stuck out his hand and Vanessa shook it with a smile, another sense of familiarity flowing over her.
"So are you going to tell me if your okay or not?" she asked, referring to the first thing she said to him. Xander smiled, "Oh right. I forgot a pencil. Do you have one I can borrow?"
"Needy on the first day. You're lucky you're cute," Venessa stated, digging in her bag and fishing out a pencil. As soon as she looked up, she could see Xander's face was almost as red as his hair.
A smile creeped onto Venessa's face as she grabbed Xander's hand, and placed the pencil in it. "Cat got your tongue, Puddin'?" Venessa asked, settling on the nickname.
His face got even more red, and Venessa laughed like a little girl, another warmth flooding through her. But this one wasn't like the one with Octavia, it was better.
Xander stared for moment, watching her laugh. And then he seemed to pull himself out of his trance as Venessa's laughter began to die down. "Oh, uh thanks," he coughed, trying to act casual.
Venessa sent a wink, which in turn made Xander's eyes fly away, "No problem."
Just then Mrs. Clayton entered the room, gave a warm welcoming greeting, and then began the first day of class. As class droned on, Venessa couldn't help but smile every time she felt Xander's eyes filter over to her.
He was cute, extremely cute. And he seemed different from other guys, no matter how cliche that sounded. It was true, he was geeky and wore glasses, he was also polite. And in a weird way, he was boyishly charming.
But it was only the first day, and Venessa didn't judged a character that quickly. However it was fun to casually look at the boy next to her and send a wink, it was fun to flirt with him.
And Venessa could flirt, just because she was a virgin didn't mean she couldn't have fun with boys. She had kissed and made out with them, but never more. So she wasn't completely innocent, however Xander seemed to act as if Venessa was the first person to ever flirt with him. It was funny and made him even cuter.
The whole class went that way, him staring at her with a glint in his green eyes, Venessa sending a wink when she could catch him, and listing to the teacher drown on and on. The bell rang all to soon and Venessa sighed and packed up her things, then she stood and watched as Xander stood. He was surprisingly very tall, six feet to be exact. And that was tall compared to Venessa's whopping height of five feet two inches and a half. The half was very important to her.
"You're very short," Xander pointed out, laughing. Venessa rolled her eyes, walking out of the classroom. But a smile crept onto her lips, "And you're a genius."
Xander laughed once again at the sarcasm, still staring at her with that glint in his eyes. Venessa liked his laugh, it was warm and inviting, and slightly soothing if you would say that.
Just then Venessa's phone buzzed. She pulled out her phone quizzically and saw it was a text from Octavia. They had just exchanged numbers last night. The text read something about a party, and as her roommate she was required to attend.
Venessa typed back that she would be there, and then she slipped her phone back into her bag. Looking back up at Xander, because that's what it took to look him in the face, she smiled.
"Sorry my roommates throwing and party, says its tradition for the first day of school. Looks like I'm getting laid tonight," she joked. The sentence made Xander's eyes go wide, his face growing slightly red again.
Venessa laughed and grabbed his arm gently, noticing the toned muscles underneath. "I'm kidding Puddin'. And geez you must work out," she stated, with a wink of course. "Good to know," Xander stated, his smile returning. The girl cocked her head to the side and smirked, "Is that so?"
"Maybe," he replied. Venessa laughed, throwing her head backwards and clinging onto Xander as they walked across the court yard. "Do you want to get lunch?" Venessa asked, still wanting to talk to the boy she had just met.
Something about him intrigued her, and she wanted to figure out why. Xander smiled, a small blush forming on his cheeks once more. He swallowed and then answered, "Sure."
