"but mommmm i don't want to move 4 hours away." said ariana, who had just got the news that her mother had got a job in Boston, MA and will be moving there in a couple days, it isn't joyous news for a 6 year old to process, especially since she was looking forward to going to kindergarten and learning in her hometown, Brooklyn, NY.

"oh honey i know it's going to be hard to transition to a new life but this is a great opportunity for me." said her mother.

"how about we get some icecream from here?" her mom pointed out the window to a small icecream shop in the distance ahead, "yes please!" ariana replies, already forgetting about the move, caught up in the excitement of ice cream.

moving day

ariana looks out the house window, she looks at the movers packing up all of her toys and stuffed animals into big trucks, she looks at her mom directing them around, she looks around at her empty house.

it didn't really bother her anymore, she told herself that she didn't have anything to lose in NY. she wasn't really a people person and didn't have many friends and the friends she did make didn't stay.

she sat down and started reading her favorite book, probably for the 100th time. books are her favorite way to escape reality and live in a world of the books choice. she found herself at peace while reading.

her mom worried about her. that she was so young she didn't realize the enormity of the situation,

but ariana? she was just happy that her mom had let her get ice cream everyday that week.

as ariana's mom pulls into their new house's driveway she can't help but let her jaw drop, it was a beautiful neighborhood and on top of that, her house was gorgeous. she had never seen such a immaculate view. her mom looks at her as she awes over everything and smiles to herself.

"mom are you sure this is OUR house?" the little girl asks while her mouth forms an O shape. "yes sweetheart, and there are some kids across the street who are your age. once we get settled how about you go across the street and give them some of the cookies we bought." her mom thinks it will be a great way for little ariana to socialize for she realizes that her little girl isn't too social recently. with her face shoved in books ariana doesn't believe she needs friends when she can be best friends with the characters dancing on the pages.

"mom do i have to?" the little girl says with a frown, she would much rather read the new book her grandmother bought her as a "happy moving" present.

"yes honey. it will be good for you," her mom pushes. "oh alright but don't think i will be friends with anyone." the little girl fiercely says. her mom laughs and shoos her away with a plate of cookies.

she paces back and forth in front of the door after she rand the doorbell.

"why did i agree to this..." she mutters under her breath. the door opens revealing a boy who looks around her age, maybe older. "um hi.. we just moved in an-" "ARE THOSE COOKIES?" another boy interrupted from behind the boy who opened the door, the boy who interrupted her comes closer and she notices that they look quite similar, they must be twins.

"nick you shouldn't interrupt.." the boy who opened the door mutters under his breath. she tries continuing her sentence, "i moved in next door and i brought ove-" "I HEARD COOKIES??" another boy behind both of them runs up and she notices he also looks a lot like the other boys. she assumes that they are triplets.

wanting to get back to her new house she quickly blurts out, "take the cookies." she shoves the plate of cookies into the boy who opened the doors hand. she immediately regrets it looking up at their expressions after her random outburst. she thinks of what to say, but fortunately they all start laughing, hard. she just stands there not knowing what to do.

should she laugh along? should she be offended? she just continues standing there.

a older woman, most likely the triplets mother walks up and shushes all of the boys. "hi there sweetheart, my apologies for my boys, you are the new neighbor right?"

i automatically feel safe around her and respond right away. "it's okay, i am the new neighbor i moved here with my mom." she smiles at me, i continues talking, "i brought over cookies" i gesture towards the cookies in the boys hands, noticing that one of the boys has already ate 2.

"thank you for the cookies.." the boy who interrupted me says, "oh ariana, my name is ariana." i reply realizing he's asking for my name. "nice to meet you ariana, i'm chris," "i'm matt!" the boy who opened the door says, and then the last boy stops shoving cookies into his mouth and quickly says "i'm nick" at least she thinks that's what he says, his voice was muffled by the four cookies shoved deep into his mouth.

she quickly tells them all it was nice to meet them, starting to feel the social anxiety hitting her she turns and heads back to her house, she stops when she feels a hand grip on her arm and she turns around to see chris looking at her, she looks up at his eyes as he asks if she'd like to have dinner with them that evening. she didn't think much of it as she agreed, but little did she know that this was going to be a start of a long journey.
