The funeral was held on a sunny Monday morning in a family-owned graveyard that accommodated every single family member of the (L/n) clan that had perished. Ever since (Y/n) parents died in the fire two days ago he has been the only surviving blood from the (L/n) family, and so he was the only one who attended that actually had their blood rushing through their veins.
The reception was brief yet extravagant as business associates stepped up to him and offered them their condolences, notifying him that if he lacked anything to just go to them and they would readily serve him in any way desirable. Through all the pathetic smiles and consoling handshakes, (Y/n) kept his heartbreaking frown throughout it all as he bowed and accepted their words obediently, bearing down the chuckle that yearned to bubble up from inside his throat at how easy they could be seen through.
They just wanted to take advantage of the new, inexperienced head of the (L/n) family.
Four hours had passed since then and (Y/n) was now making his way back to a new manor that he purchased with the money that was passed down to him by his mother and father. 'The only thing they ever did that was good for me.'
Staring out the car window, his frown uncoiled into a thin line as he watched others walk and enjoy their Monday morning, some already out of their school, as they headed back home with their friends. With annoyed eyes (Y/n) glanced away and plucked out his brand new phone, reviewing the time to see if he had time to check on his friends and see if they were alright.
But as much as he wished to meet them just one more time (Y/n) knew he couldn't. He knew he was the current head of the (L/n) family, thus meaning he was also of age to rule over the family business. Though he was still in school (Y/n) just had two more months until graduation meaning that until then he would have to deal with courses and then go to a college to further broaden his ties with the heirs of other families and enhance the influence of his organization.
He just preferred to satisfy others for his own benefit. Just like his father.
Banging his fist onto the car door (Y/n) breathed out and reclined in the car seat, not caring for the minor dent that he created because of his force. He could just compensate for it later.
'I'm not like my father. I just wish to survive in this greed-brimming world of business and power and to become the top of the top, on top of everyone, for then no one will ever take profit of me ever again.' Scowling at his thoughts (Y/n) glared at the car window, the crossing pedestrians now lessening as the limo arrived into a vast and light-filled forest, far away from civilization as the mansion that he adopted was to be in the heart of the woods; far away from everyone else.
Watching as the limo took a gradual left (Y/n) regarded as it passed the golden gates with the (L/n) family crest in the middle as it closed behind them soon after. Driving on the red brick driveway (Y/n) heard the car come to a halt as his passenger's door opened. Striding out (Y/n) acknowledged the chauffeur and strode away, up the steps as two guards opened the two front doors and bowed, awaiting him to go in before closing the door solidly after.
Inspecting the interior of the mansion (Y/n) hummed in endorsement at the home designer's work. 'I suppose taking notice of those greedy bastards' praise for that woman really paid off.' Walking forwards as all the maids, butlers, and chefs came to receive him, (Y/n) only bowed towards them and advised them to do their finest for the (L/n) family, and on which they nodded with their eyes closed in compliance.
Detecting a relatively young butler come up to him, the young man bowed and reached his hand out, pointing towards the red-carpeted stairs. "May this tame butler show you to your room, Master?"
Master. (Y/n) enjoyed being called that. Magnificent evolution from typically being hailed young master.
"You shall." No other words were traded as the butler led him upstairs and down hallways before walking to the end of the hallway where a great, golden stripped burgundy door presented before them. Bowing down in reverence as he opened the door, the butler said: "After you, Master (Y/n)."
Stepping inside his new room (Y/n) scanned around as he realized it was precisely like how he preferred for it to be; the room was broad, extensive—it was the grandest room he had ever laid his eyes on. Four skinny yet towering windows with extraordinarily intricate golden curves encircled the window as the elegant (F/c) silk colored curtains were drawn aside letting the morning light flow inside, crowding the room with a warm and pleasant environment as no dust particles could be seen drifting around. In the middle of the four lanky windows was installed a balcony door half the other windows' length as it lead to the outside world—which was facing the newly grown garden. Inside the room hung an imposing chandelier as it was already lit up, its numerous glass tear-drops sparkling in brilliance as it supplied the room with even more light.
In the middle of the room was an elevated ground with an Alaskan King bed on top of an upholstered bed frame, reinforcing its load on the elevated ground. Amid the lengthy room were two facing elegant lounges with a burgundy table in the middle, a lovely rug under it. On the other end were two meeting doors—one led to the walk-in wardrobe, and the other led to the private library that (Y/n) had equipped.
"I hope it's to your liking, Master (Y/n)?" Understanding the young butler speak (Y/n) nodded adamantly, glancing away from the sight that was his new room and over at him. "It's magnificent—grand in size—but it's sufficient for my tastes. Tell the chefs to arrange me a light meal for this exquisite morning, then draw up my chauffeur."
"Yes, Master (Y/n). Which vehicle?"
"The least eye-catching I own. Have it pulled in the front in twenty minutes and no later."
"Yes, Master (Y/n)." With a bow, the young butler retired, closing the door behind him, leaving (Y/n) alone with his thoughts and the hushed room that he could now hail his own. In fact, every individual item in that house—that wasn't from one of the manor's members—was his now.
So was the family business.
Taking out his phone soon after the door closed (Y/n) unlocked it and touched the calling app on his phone, scanning for Reki's name before spotting it. Pressing the calling button (Y/n) put his phone to his ear as he heard the first ring halfway rung before the deafening squealing of Reki to break inside of his eardrums driving him to tear his phone away from his ear in fear of going deaf.
"Reki, how have you been-"
"(Y/n) where were you all day?! You didn't show up in "S" at all for the past two days, and you've also been ghosting all my texts and calls! I've been really worried! If something happened to you, I don't know what I would do!" Hearing the panicked voice of Reki made (Y/n) smile a tad bit in appreciation. There weren't that many people out there who could truly mean it when they say that they worried about him.
"Relax, Reki, everything is fine. My parents died two days ago, and I had to organize their burial and the hardship given to the households that attended the launch of our recent product. So saying that I have been unavailable is quite correct." Silence buzzed in the other line as (Y/n) was now heading downstairs for his breakfast that he skipped just a couple hours ago. You know, to look worried and actually advertise the "distraught dutiful child" act.
"Oh, (Y/n), I didn't know! I'm so sorry, I'll come over to your house right now and-"
"No, I'm afraid that you can't. My last house has already been demolished by a bulldozer as I know live somewhere else; far, far away from there." Greeting one of the bowing maids (Y/n) went on walking before exhaling as the hysterical shrieking of Reki in the other line clogged his ears.
"Does that mean that we'll never be able to meet up anymore?! (Y/n), please tell me you're joking!" Yelling in heartache yet rage that (Y/n) would ever do something like this to him Reki shoved away the board that he was renovating onto the floor, not caring if it was damaged or ruined at all at that moment.
Sitting down on the head chair of the lengthy wooden table (Y/n) rocked his head, munching on the scrambled eggs that were made for him. "We will, but only for three more months. After I graduate from my school, I'll have to go to college and such, you know—classic business man life." Finishing his eggs (Y/n) chugged his almond milk and got up, striding away as the maids rushed to clean up his dishes and send them to be washed.
Granting for his personal butler—the young man from before—to help put on his business jacket (Y/n) strode out of the door and into the opened car door, sitting down on the leather seats as the car drove away.
"Where would you wish to go today, Master (Y/n)?" Lifting his eyes to glance over at the veiled chaffuer, (Y/n) hummed. "To the Shindo manor."
"(Y/n)? Are you sure that it's only for three months? There're colleges here that you can attend!"
"I can't, Reki. I need to go to the best of the best, and none of them are here. I'm presently residing somewhat away from the city, so I'm not that far away. Besides, you, me, and Langa can go hang out whenever I have time, alright? Right now I'm the head business man in the technology field and business and the last member of the (L/n) family. Still having to go to school and college, yet still preserve my family's honor and influence. Do you realize where I'm going with this?"
Hearing shuffling on the other end of the line, Reki ultimately answered. "Yes, yes, I do. But please—come here once in a while to hang out, okay? I have been really, really missing you."
(Y/n) smiled affectionately. "I to you."
Receiving the cheerful squeal coming from Reki, (Y/n) smiled. "Alright, I gotta go. Have somewhere important to be. Bye."
"Bye."
Hanging up the call (Y/n) clicked on another contact and typed something before turning his phone off and dragging out the skateboard that he brought inside of a skateboard backpack, admiring the rugged qualities even though it seemed polished. The uneven surface to keep his feet more in control of the board rubbed his skin; though (Y/n) appreciated the familiar feeling.
'Skateboarding...'
"... has really made my life so much more colorful."
