Chapter Two

── A NEW START ──

Brooklyn, New York

The sun began to rise over the city, the streets busy with people already rushing around from home to work or work to home. Alessia opened her eyes slowly as she let out an unattractive yawn, rolling over onto her back to face the light gray ceiling. It had been almost a month since Alessia had escaped Hydra in Siberia and almost two weeks since they had moved into the current residence. Aaron had spent most days exploring the city while Alessia spent her time searching for work and learning as much as she could about the large packed city.

Upon arriving in New York, Alessia and Aaron were introduced to Marcus Craiglyn. The older gentleman was funding the rebellions against Hydra and other world threatening groups, due to this he got some deep pocket funding. The mansion that they had moved into was owned by Marcus and protected by the city, ensuring no harm came to it without severe consequences. Alina was already living in the home with her Marcus but the rest of the place was empty.

Alessia was beyond grateful for the new beginning in life, but also because it meant she'd be able to plan her attack on Hydra thoroughly. The young woman could sleep peacefully, well, as peaceful as a severely traumatized insomniac could. And today, she was starting her new job with Alina at a nice small cafe owned by a sweet older couple who were more than happy to hire the girl despite her lack of experience. They didn't necessarily need to work but it was good to fit in and act normal rather than hide in the house.

After a relaxing shower, Alessia changed into some nice jeans, a nice shirt and a warm cardigan. She slipped on her vans before brushing her hair and letting it sit naturally on her shoulders. She checked her bag to ensure she had everything she needed before heading downstairs into the kitchen where Alina was making coffee. The blonde woman was dancing along to the music playing through the radio as she flipped the pancakes, Alessia sat down next to Aaron with a smile as he read through the newspaper.

Marcus walked into the kitchen stopping for a moment before speaking, "I am certain that you to are gonna be late for work." Alina continued dancing ignoring their older friend as Alessia looked at the time making him laugh. "He got you, didn't he?" Alina asked as she plated up some pancakes for everyone. "Wow, so clever. Not all that funny," Alessia spoke sarcastically before getting up and making herself a coffee. "It's all fun and games, Miss Hart. All fun and games," Marcus told her before making his way towards his office.

Alessia rolled her eyes and poured her coffee before sitting back down and digging into the pancakes that Alina had cooked for her. So far, normal living was a good thing for the former trapped soldiers but their concerns were far from over. Marcus was trying to get in contact with someone who would be able to essentially destroy the programming system within their brains to prevent Hydra from taking them back whenever they wished too.

Alina was attempting to get in contact with an old friend who has a talent in regards to technology and inventions, someone who could outshine their standard knowledge. Aaron had finally gotten in contact with an old friend of his, they had plans to meet up and strike a deal. Alessia wasn't too sure what she was bringing to the table, they were building a front line team but she didn't have any friends or family out there. But she was certain that someone out there was made for the team and she'd find them, or they'd find her.

Aaron rolled his eyes as Alessia overpowered the fifth guard, the two of them had be fighting off guard after guard for hours now as the doctors and Viktor tested their stamina and strength. The same young man stood in front of them beside Viktor, they knew nothing about him except for his obsession towards Alessia. Viktor raised his hand, signaling the training to stop which lead to Alessia stepping up next to Aaron awaiting their next orders.

The man walked down to the room and took a moment to look at Alessia and Aaron before nodding to Viktor. The arrogant Russian smiled widely back before signaling the guards, they made their way into the room and grabbed both Alessia and Aaron before taking them to separate labs where they were strapped down to beds. Alessia, numb to what was happening, just let them do whatever they wished to do to her. But Aaron fought back, thrashing in an attempt to get off of the table that he hated.

The man walked up beside Alessia with a sly smirk resting on his face, "Don't worry, Mi Amor. This will only hurt... a lot." He chuckled to himself before looking at the doctor, "Let's begin Phase One." The doctors got to work preparing everything as Alessia watched multiple needles appear before sticking into her skin. She gritted her teeth as the liquid injected into her skin, everyone went quiet as they awaited any sort of reaction to whatever was within the needles.

The silence soon faded out and the room filled with blood-curdling screams that left Alessia's lips, the serum burned within her bloodstream. She began thrashing around in an attempt to escape, tears burned in her eyes and her heart raced like a marathon. Alessia's screams bounced off of the walls, Aaron lay silent as tears streamed down his face due to the pain his best friend was clearly in. It wasn't until they injected him that he truly understood, the facility filled with the deadly screams, with no one to hear.

Alessia's first two days working at the cafe were successful, she truly enjoyed her time there despite the occasional customer with an attitude problem. But today was the day that Marcus' contact would be arriving at the house, they were gonna be moving in to join the team. Alessia was sitting on the couch with a Stephen King novel in her hand when Aaron wandered in and face planted the other couch making the raven-haired girl laugh before sipping her coffee.

Alessia placed her mug on the table next to her book before looking up at her best friend. "So, tell me what happened?" Alessia asked kindly. Aaron turned his head to look at her, "I got in contact with Jonas and guess what!" Alessia shrugged. "He's friends with the Korean woman I met, her code name is Kitsune," Aaron explained before sighing, "I think she has a thing for me but I'm gay... what do I do?" Alessia was silent before she began laughing for a moment, she looked over to the deadpan expression on Aaron's face.

Alessia rolled her eyes before looking behind him where Jonas and Kitsune stood with amused expressions on their faces. Aaron looked up to see them looking at him, he quickly jumped up and smiled politely at them. "Hey... uh, Jonas... uh, Kitsune..." Aaron stammered making the three others in the room break into laughter due to the situation. Marcus walked into the room followed by two others and Alina. Alessia looked around the room before thinking carefully, "Well, this is quite an interesting team being formed."

Marcus motioned for everyone to follow him, the group followed the order and they made their way into a room with a few couches and a desk in front of them. Marcus walked up and stood in front of the desk with his arms against his chest, he was wearing his usual business suit with a stoic expression on his face. Everyone split to sit down on the couches, Alessia opting on sitting on the arm of the couch next to Aaron as she looked around at the entire team.

Marcus cleared his throat, "I've done my research on each of you already. But here is your opportunity to introduce yourself." Alessia smiled lightly before standing up straight, "I'm Alessia Hart, Assassin." She sat back down and began playing with some loose strings in her ripped jeans. Aaron nodded, "I'm Aaron Spencer, Assassin." Marcus nodded to the two of them before looking towards the second couch.

Kitsune stood up, "I'm Lana Lue, Assassin and experiment survivor known as Kitsune." Aaron and Alessia looked at each other before focusing back on the others. The blonde woman stood, "Alina Sanchez, Spymaster and trained fighter." Alessia had sparred with Alina a few times, both girls were almost equal to one another but Alessia had some spare tricks up her sleeve helping her win each time. "I'm Jesse Valdez, Informant and Tech master," His accent made Alessia smile, her love for accents seeping through.

They turned there attention to the other couch where a man and woman sat patiently. "I'm Jonas Cortez, Skilled fighter, hacker and I am working with Shield," Jonas informed them with a professional tone. "And I'm Harper Hanby, High class informant with deep pocket connections," Harper introduced. Alessia looked around at them before nodding happily, "Welcome to Team Exo-Topics everyone, let's test these skills." Alessia then looked to Marcus who nodded.

They followed Marcus towards a metal door protected with a keypad, he typed in the code followed by a handprint before the door opened to reveal an elevator. The group piled into the elevator and stood in silence as they lowered into what was automatically assumed to be some kind of hideout for the team. Their expressions consisted of wide eyes and jaw drops as they looked around the large room filled with the latest tech, vehicles and training equipment. Alessia smiled at Marcus as the others wandered around towards specific sections where they would be spending most of their time.

Marcus rested his hand on Alessia's shoulder, "And so it begins, Miss Hart." Alessia nodded along to Marcus' words before she decided to get to know her team. They had a lot planned and quite a few Hydra bases and more to attack, so the better they worked together, then the quicker they can help this word become ten times safer. Aaron smiled as he watched Alessia talk with the others about some of her past, he made his way to Marcus. "This will help her get better, right?" Aaron asked the older man who simply nodded, he knew Alessia would be okay. They all would be, now that they had each other.

November 17th, 2011

Alessia adjusted her black dress, ensuring her spare blades were in there places as Jonas double checked the cameras. Alina and Aaron were going over the blueprints and making sure the weapons and tools were in good condition. Jesse adjusted the earpiece for Alessia before they tested it, the earpiece and microphone were active. "All right. Your first mission, team. I expect great things. Let's do this," Marcus spoke through the microphone from the hub.

With a nod, everyone split up to enter the large home where music was blasting through speakers as high class men and woman danced, talked and drank together in some useless celebration. Alessia rolled her eyes, "God, I cannot wait to get out of this dress." Lana laughed as she did the final touches on Alessia's hair, "Well, you look beautiful either way." Alessia smiled at her before taking a deep breath, "Let's do it!" She made her way out of the van and headed straight for the door, showing her ticket for the event.

She walked in through the doors in search for her target, Nikolai Lombardi. He was a deep pocket sponsor for Hydra and their dark experiments, someone who Aaron and Alessia knew Lana hated with a passion. She was pulled from the front team for this mission at the risk of being noticed, but she wasn't upset about that considering she'd still get to see his death on screen. Alessia grabbed a champagne as she finally spotted the smug older man, now she just needed to get the man's attention.

She smirked to herself as he stood by the bar speaking with a woman that he seemed to lack any interest in. Alessia made her way over to order a whiskey rather than drinking champagne, her drink choice gained the targets attention. "My kind of woman," Nikolai spoke with a deep Italian accent. Alessia downed the glass before smiling at the older man, "What can I say? I hate stereotypes. But I love the burn." Nikolai smirked as he looked Alessia up and down before waving for two more drinks.

The aim of the night was to start a war between two organizations, therefore Alessia's aim was to put cyanide into his drink before saying the two words necessary to begin the war allowing them to take down both organizations without the risk of being caught. After a few glasses and some agonizingly painful pick up lines, Nikolai was distracted by another woman with a desperate look and a gold digger attitude. As Nikolai was distracted, Alessia slipped the cyanide into Nikolai's drink just in time.

The man downed the glass and turned back to Alessia who smiled slyly, "Hail Hydra..." And with that, she strutted away leaving the man choking on the cyanide before dropping dead to the floor. "Target eliminated, signing off," Alessia spoke into her comms. The woman screamed gaining the attention of the partygoers leaving the perfect opportunity for the team to slip from the party without anyone noticing. Jonas wiped any evidence of the team being on the cameras before the team left feeling accomplished, their first mission as a team worked perfectly and they celebrated with drinks.
