40: Dear Diary... (Epilogue)

~ 10 years later ~

"Gee, come in." Frank greeted Gerard. "Welcome home."

Gerard smiled at him and carried a few boxes in the flat. Frank and Gerard were now 26 and that day, they were officially moving in together. Also, they got engaged.

They were renting that flat that happened to be near Frank and Anthony's old house.

Gerard was finishing his studies in art school. As to Frank, he had never liked going to regular schools and he had dropped out. He had joined a band called Pencey Prep and it had enough success for Frank to pay all the rent by himself - but Gerard had insisted on paying his share.

Gerard gave Frank a kiss and started unpacking his stuff in the room they shared. Then he joined Frank on the balcony.

Frank was leaning on the metallic fence, smoking and enjoying the view. It wasn't worth the hill but it was still nice.

Gerard approached him silently and gently wrapped his arms around Frank's body, snapping the latter out of his daydream. Gerard put his chin on his fiancé's shoulder and planted a kiss on the crook of his tattoed neck.

Gerard had noticed that Frank had got himself another tattoo between his collarbones, 'let love in'.

Gerard's favorite one was the one on his hands though. 'Hopeless Romantic'. Gerard was Frank's hopeless romantic.

Frank's tattoes were either creepy or adorable. The latters really contrasted with how rough and muscular Frank had gotten those past five years. He hadn't grown so much though, but still.

"Baby, we talked about this. If I can deal with my anxiety and my eating disorder, then you can stop smoking." Gerard said and Frank put out his cigarette.

"You're right," Frank turned to face Gerard, whose arms were still around him. "Let's keep each other healthy and happy."

"I have a deal to offer you." Gerard began and Frank raised an eyebrow.

"A deal?"

"Yeah. Whenever you feel like smoking, you can kiss me instead. How does that sound?"

Both of Frank's eyebrows were now amusedly raised. "Mmh, sounds good." He pecked Gerard's lips and both left the balcony and went to their bedroom.

"Gee?"

"Mmh?" Gerard turned and Frank wrapped his arms around his fiancé's waist.

"I feel like smoking," he said before pulling Gerard into a heated kiss.
"I feel like smoking like a fucking chimney..." he mumbled against Gerard's lips before spreading kisses on his jaw and neck, making Gerard laugh.

"Hey, don't take advantage of that," Gerard giggled.

"Oh, but you're my drug, Gee. I need you even more than I need smokes." Frank said in a lustful voice that kind of sounded fake, which made Gerard have a fit of laughter as Frank laid him on their mattress.

"Frank, haha, stop! I've got things to do."

"Why won't you do me for starters, baby?"

That didn't help Gerard's case, who had a fit of laughter.

"No, I have to unpack first. Now get off of me, you gorilla."

"So here it is," Frank pouted, still straddling Gerard. "We're gonna get married and we already stop having sex?"

"Hey, I'll tell you what. I unpack all my stuff and then, I'm all yours."

"Hmm... I like that thought. All mine?"

"All yours."

Frank grinned and helped Gerard up. "Deal."

•••
Gerard had finished unpacking his stuff when Frank walked in the bedroom with a sneaky smile on.

"Hey, done unpacking?"

"Mmh, maybe..." Gerard grinned.

"Oh and just before I forget, Anthony's gonna drop by in about an hour."

"Yeah?" Gerard wrapped his arms around his boyfriend's waist and threw an almost defiant and surely flirting gaze at him. "Bet there's a lot you can do to me in less than an hour..."

"Wanna try, hm?"

Gerard snorted, not answering, and pulled Frank closer by the waist. "Everything is like heaven Frankie, and you're, like, my god."

"I'm your god?" Frank chuckled, raising his eyebrows amusedly. "Like, a sex god?" he smirked, his lips brushing against Gerard's.

"Yeah, you're my sex god." Gerard grinned against Frank's mouth.

"Well, let me take you to cloud nine then," Frank mumbled before kissing Gerard deeply.

"Go on the bed baby, and strip. I'll go get the lube, I'll be back in a minute." Frank said. "You will see everything your personal sex god can do to you in less than an hour."

"Grab the handcuffs while you're at it." Gerard spoke casually as he was undressing.

Jesus fucking Christ.
Frank did have the best future-husband one could ever wish for.

Gerard opened the door to Anthony, who was carrying a box in his arms.

"Hey Anthony, what's that?"

"It's yours, actually. Mikey called to say you had forgot that but he had stuff to do with Pete so I'm the one dropping by. Can't believe he and Pete are still a thing."

"Yeah, in the end they did get along pretty well. I'm glad Mikey never had to deal with a broken heart."

"Yeah, I've heard Pete was the one ending up completely head over heels for Mikey. He has started writing songs for him."

"Aww, that's cute. By the way, how is Jamia? And Sweet Pea?"

Anthony had met Jamia Nestor three years ago and was now Anthony's fiancé. As to Sweet Pea, it was their dog.

"They're really good, everything's for the best."

"And the baby?"

"Another three months to go. But..." Anthony took a deep breath, making Gerard frown in concern. Was something wrong?

"What is it, Anthy?"

"It's- I don't know how to say it... There are two of them." Anthony put a hand before his huge blissfull smile. He could cry from happiness right there and then.

Gerard's mouth opened widely, like a cartoon character's. He pulled Anthony in a hug. "Oh my God, I'm so happy for you !"

"Hey, what's going on? Who's happy for what?" Frank walked in and patted Anthony's shoulder in greeting.

"Frank, I'm gonna be a dad! I'm gonna have twins!"

"Oh fuck..." Frank's jaw dropped. Both Anthony and Gerard laughed at his unseating. "But like, for real?"

"Yeah !"

"Oh fuck..." Frank looked genuinely sorry for Anthony.

"You already said that, baby." Gerard giggled and pecked Frank's lips. "Have you thought of a name? I mean - names?"

"Yeah, Jamia and I agreed on Cherry and Lily."

"That's pretty!" Gerard commented.

"Yeah. I really intend to avoid what happened to Frank and I. I'm gonna raise them to make them better kids than we were."

"I'm sure you'll be a great dad." Frank said.

"Thanks, bro."

"Hey, you guys could spend some time together, I'll just sort this box out." Gerard suggested.

"Yeah, we'll just go for a walk or something." Anthony shrugged.

Frank giggled. "Damn, we're old people already, taking walks and feeding birds in parks."

"Yeah well, don't come back too late, it's already night."

•••
The twins were out and Gerard opened the box Anthony had brought him. Random things and at the bottom of it, Gerard's red, dusty diary.

Gerard picked it out of the box. He couldn't believe he had forgot it. In fact, he had completely forgot about that diary.

The pages were a little bit torn and frayed but still in good shape. Gerard couldn't help but notice that a single page was still blank, at the end of it.

Gerard had an idea and went to his desk. He took a pencil out. It was time for him to put a endpoint to that story.

Gerard started writing with his old, skewed handwriting.

     Dear diary,

Anthony, Frank and I have had our fair share of sorrow and pain. We've cried, depressed and suffered, but also smiled, laughed and fell in love. And we did all of it together.

You see, in the end, I kept my promise. In the end, my story ended well.

Dear diary, you've seen me grow up from the shy kid, then the lost teen, to the man I am today, and today is the last time I write.

I'm at peace now. I won't tell you goodnight tonight, dear diary, but rather goodbye.

Farewell, Dear Diary
- Gerard Way

Here it was, his life, in his own hands. All he had felt, all he had loved and hated. His fears, his desires. His story in his own words.

Gerard smiled nostalgically. Now he had one last thing to do before he could allow himself to be fully happy, at last.

•••
Gerard joined Frank and Anthony on the hill. He knew he would find them there.

Frank and Anthony were watching stars, together. When was the last time they had done so? An eternity, on a human scale. Not even a split second, for stars. Stars had seen many humans process there, and those two ones weren't more, or less special than any other. But for those two little humans, those stars surely were special.

"I hoped I would find you here." Gerard spoke.

"Hey", Frank said as he and Anthony stood up next to each of Gerard's sides. They saw what Gerard was holding in one of his hands.

"Is that...?"

"My diary, yes."

Gerard threw it on the floor and took out a match.

"What are you doing?" Frank asked.

Gerard smiled sadly. "Moving on with the past."

He lit the match and threw it on the diary, lighting it up. He put his hands in his pockets and watched.

"Why burn it? Why not just keep it?" Anthony eventually asked and Gerard looked up at him and smiled.

"Because I'm happy now," he simply said, watching the pages turn into ashes.

And the three of them just stood there, watching the diary burn under the black sky and the smoke go up to the stars.

The End.

______

I could say that Frank and Gerard lived happily ever after and had babies, but they were too lazy to adopt, so let's say they just lived happily ever after.

I really hope you liked that book :)
