Chapter 01 - The Haunted Past
I kept looking at the waves, how they kept struggling to rule the shore yet they were again dragged back to the deep ocean, showing the dominant strength of the sea.
The ocean...
A normal person would love gazing at the sunset in the evening with their dear ones. Of course, It brings harmony and serenity. Well, it does bring peace and tranquillity to me as well, but, there was a sorrow I couldn't conflict.
Deep inside, there were blazes of agony that burnt my heart to ashes.
Why did you do that to me? How could you leave me like that?
I sighed and kept staring at the thin line on the rim of the ocean. The salty breeze wrapped me with its gentle and replenishing touch.
I love the waves, also I hate it so much...
There was no point in accusing anyone, the only one I could blame was myself. It was me, I was the reason it happened. Maybe, just maybe if I never met him, he would still be alive, won't he?
I gritted my teeth as I felt a tear streaming down my cheeks. How silly, am I still trying to be strong even though I know that my whole world is just filled with darkness? I felt a hand on my shoulder, patting me softly as he always does,
"Y/n, we should head back to our house now," I heard him saying. I quickly blinked to dry my tears.
It's useless, he knows me too well...
The man who was three years older than me sat by my side, hastily looking at the horizon which was covered with a mix of orange and light purple.
"Isn't it beautiful?" He started talking. I sighed. I knew he was trying to divert me, he knew who I was thinking about, and he knew everything.
"Yeah, but it hurts" I cleared my throat as I felt like there was a lump in my throat. He watched me, as he did, his eyes soften,
"It isn't your fault you know, we can't change what was meant to be,"
"But still-"
"It's okay Y/n," Jimin wrapped his arms around me, giving me the consolation I needed at that moment. I crouched on his shoulder with a heavy heart. His jacket kept flipping because of the wind. I stayed in his embrace for a while.
He always told me that it wasn't my fault, but why can't I stop feeling guilty?
I feel so empty without him, the one who was as beautiful as this ocean... Suddenly a flashback fiddled inside my head,
"Your eyes are like the ocean," he chuckled as I said while looking into his doe eyes.
"Why do you say so,"
"They are beautiful and deep, just like the ocean, I love them,"
"So you love only my eyes? Not me?" He breathed on me. "Don't be silly, come here you stupid," I crashed my lips on his, kissing him like my whole world was him.
Of course, for me, the whole world was him...
I smiled as I recalled the buried memories inside my heart. It hurts a lot, but still, I keep running behind those memories. In no time, I found myself sobbing on Jimin's shoulder. He kept stroking my hair while I silently cried.
After crying, I felt somewhat better than I was before. We ambled towards the car which was stopped on the upper road. Jimin drove me back home to his apartment. While he was driving the car, I was quiet, I was always like that after we visited the beach. Every Sunday he took me there. Even though it hurts, I still love the place where I first met him, I will never forget the day I met those doe eyes three years ago.
Jimin turned on the radio to break the silence inside the car. He kept tuning it till he heard the news channel.
" Recently Kang Kwan, the president of marine sciences at Seoul National University has started an investigation about the ship Titanic which was sunk three years ago..."
I felt like my heart stopped beating when I heard those lines. My orbs almost left their sockets as they stated about the ship Titanic, which sank three years ago and buried some mysteries with it, the incident that I will never forget.
Jimin widened his eyes and looked at me. I gulped, my lips were feeling dry after a flashback started running on my head.
That ship, that miserable day, it's like the history is repeating...
I turned the volume up with a pounding heart.
"A team of Mr Kwan has already been sent to the research, as mentioned in the signed deal, a half of the wrecks they had discovered while diving in the deep Atlantic has been assigned to be legal properties of Mr Kwan and his team..."
"Stay tuned for more updates about-"I switched off the radio.
I felt like I was running a million miles per second. The past is haunting me.
"Y/n-ah, are you ok?" I nodded as the man in the driving seat queried me. I said, "I'm fine," even though I was screaming "Save me," from inside.
I want this nightmare to end, why does it keep haunting me like this?
We pulled into the roadway as we reached our house.
"Jimin, can you please switch on the news, I want to see what's in there," he shook his head as he understood me. He loosened his blonde man bun and ruffled his already messy hair before he got the remote controller. I got seated beside him.
The blonde-haired guy quickly checked his wristwatch and turned on the evening news channel.
"I hope we didn't miss it yet," he mumbled and grabbed the coke can on the coffee table in front of us. I kept biting my lip, waiting till the news about Titanic came up.
"Want a sip?" He stretched his can at me and offered me a drink.
"No thanks and you smell alcohol," I scrunched my nose and denied his offer. He snorted loudly,
"Like you don't drink, when did you stop drinking, sweetheart?" I rolled my eyes at him.
"Am not in a mood to joke right now Jimin, and you know that, " I fixed my eyes on the TV screen instead of the annoying human being who was sitting beside me. He muttered and continued drinking his coke, waiting till the news appeared. Even though he loved to annoy me, I loved him a lot.
He's my only family, the one who took me under his wings when I was broken and hopeless. He's the only one who treated me as a part of the Park family.
Again my eyes softened as I saw him watching the screen with half of his forehead covered with his long bangs. He still acts like a brat like he always did.
"Ugh, just look at you Jimin, you look like garbage," I moved his bangs away from his face and snatched the coke can from his hand.
"Hey! That was so uncool," he started blurting like a kindergartner.
"Hush hush, news is on at twelve o'clock," I kept my finger in front of my lips to make him quiet. He suddenly became silent and straightened his spine bones. My lips formed a thin line as the host started speaking.
"Now we will be contacting our crew member from the southern dock to state news about the most recent research which is led by Mr Kang Kwan," the camera was shifted to the other end, showing the busy harbour area. Through the sound of the crowd, the news broadcaster started speaking.
"As you see, this place is already crowded with the people who came to see the ruins of the Titanic. From my right-hand side, you can see some of the richest CEOs who came here to participate in the auction that will be held as a special event by the government..."
Auction? Sounds like the government got their hands on some business...
"Yeah, of course, to fill their pockets with money. I mean, those people are already filthy rich..." Jimin rolled his eyes. I kept watching the news without uttering to speak my mind.
The host continued talking.
"And now you can see some of the wrecks that are prepared for the auction tomorrow,"
The television screen displayed the rusty metal parts that were already wrecked, which cried out the tragic event they met years ago. The golden and silver colour badges that once stunningly stood their pride, glimmering as they were pinned to the crew member's uniforms now turned their selves into a greyish-green colour, escorting the same fate as their owners. Once they were owned by the cheerful faces of crew members of the ship named Titanic...
I remember everything like yesterday...
My head started throbbing with pain. The affliction made my throat go dry. As the camera keep showing the scenery around, suddenly I saw something that caught me off guard.
My shaky legs made me shoot away from the chair and make me stand frozen as my feet were glued to the ground. My heart started pounding loudly as it wanted to jump away from my rib cage.
I couldn't believe my eyes,
That pendant...it's there...the pendant he gave me is right there..,
So guys that's it for the first chapter, more mysteries to be solved..wait for it loll ;)
