SHAY DROVE TOWARDS HER FATHER'S HOME with a smile on her face and Taylor Swift blasting loudly through her speakers. The brunette was in a good mood, work had been surprisingly pleasant and it out the Miller woman in a good headspace for the day.
Shay sung along to the radio as the sun began to set behind her. Her father had happily offered to watch Leela for the day while she worked and since Gemma had her hands full with Abel β not that the matriarch would ever turn down watching Leela, but it gave Caleb some time with his granddaughter.
The brunette turned off her car once she pulled into the small driveway at her childhood home and quickly grabbed her bag before exiting the car. Shay didn't bother to knock on the door before entering the small house. It was pointless.
"Dad!" She called out while closing the door behind her. "It smells good in here." Shay commented as she got a whiff of her father's famous Shepherd's pie.
Shay made her way towards the kitchen with pursed lips and her brows furrowed. It was usual for her father to cook his Shepherd's pie unless it was for a special occasion or a holidayβ which it currently wasn't. Gemma wasn't planning on having any family dinners soon so that wasn't a reason for him to be cooking it either.
"Dad." Shay called again as she stepped into the kitchen. "What are you doing here?" She spat with venom in her tone as she stood there in shock, staring at the woman who gave birth to her.
The overwhelming feeling of wanting to throw up formed in the pit of Shay's stomach. She felt sick and could hear the blood rushing to her ears. It was like she couldn't move though she felt frozen in time. Her blue eyes could see that Farrah was holding Leela in her arms, but her body couldn't move to take her daughter away from her.
"I wanted to see you. I haven't got a chance to see my granddaughter yet. I missed you and Natalie." Farrah's voice was soft as she spoke, her dark eyes staring into her daughter's angry blue ones.
"You shouldn't be here!" Shay spat as she rushed forward to grab Leela from her arms. "You shouldn't be holding my daughter. What gives you the fucking right." The brunette held the happy infant close to her chest as she backed away from the older woman.
"Hey, Shay." Caleb Miller unaware of the hostility in the kitchen walked into the room with a smile on his face as he placed a kiss on top of his daughter's head.
Shay shook her head and stepped away from her father with a look of betrayal on her face. How could he do this? He knew how she felt about this woman and yet he allowed this. It hurt her to her core and broke her heart that he of all people would do this to her.
"What is your fucking problem, dad? I told you I didn't want that junkie around my daughter and yet here she is." The anger that coursed through Shay's body was enough to make any person take a step back from her.
A sigh fell from Caleb's mouth as he stared at his youngest daughter. "She's sober now, has been for years. I tried talking to you about this when Nat and Kozik came to visit, but you both didn't want to hear it." The Miller man explained as though it would help anything.
Caleb Miller always wanted his family to be together. He longed for the day when his family could be all together again. He loved his daughters and he loved his ex wife β he just wanted everyone to get along.
A bitter laugh fell from Shay's lips. "Because there was nothing to talk about! I don't want to see her! I don't want her around Leela and you disrespected my fucking decision. Leela is my daughter not yours! I make the choices for her life. Jax and I do, no one else."
Shay could feel her body shaking with anger the more she spoke. She needed to leave that much she knew. If she stayed in this house any longer it would be very bad for everyone.
"You know what you really fucked up. I know you still love her, but there's no excuse for this." Shay shook her head as she turned on her heel ready to leave the house.
"Shay." Farrah finally spoke up before Shay could make her quick exit.
A deep sigh fell from her lips as tears filled her eyes. She stood in the doorway not turning around but waiting to hear what she had to say.
"I really want to have a conversation with you and Natalie. Please just think about it." Farrah's voice held a desperation to it as she stared at the back of her daughter's head.
A scoff left her lips as she shook her head and quickly exited the house with tears falling from her eyes.

SHAY KNOCKED ON JAX'S DOOR with Leela sitting on her hip. She didn't know if Tara was at his house right now and honestly she didn't care. Shay needed her best friend right now even if he came with the bitchy doctor glued to his side.
"Shay?" Jax opened the door with concern all over his face as he took in Shay's tear stained eyes and an excited Leela on her hip. "What's wrong?" He immediately asked while taking his daughter into his arms.
Jax was glad Tara wasn't here right now. He was glad she hadn't moved her things in yet and that he told her to wait a few more weeks β even though that only pissed her off. The blonde biker wasn't sure about Tara and him, even though she claimed to be pregnant something wasn't right.
"My mom is back." Shay sniffed as a sad smile formed on her face. "My fucking dad let her hold Leela. Can you believe that?" A humorless laugh fell from her mouth as she scratched at her forehead.
"Fuck, Mills." Jax quickly pulled the brunette into a tight hug. "I'm so sorry." He whispered into her ear as he gently pulled her into his house, closing the door behind her.
To say Jax was shocked would be an understatement. Of course everyone knew that Caleb Miller was still completely in love with his ex wife, but he always put his daughter's first and listened to their feelings on their mother. It made him angry to know he had allowed the junkie woman to hold his daughter. It didn't matter if she wasn't a junkie anymore or claimed she wasn't, everyone knew how Shay felt about her. Especially Caleb.
"I'm sorry if you're busy. I just didn't know who else to go to." She apologized as Jax wiped away her tears and lead her to the couch.
Jax shook his head as he sat down next to her with Leela on his lap. "Don't be sorry. I'm not busy darlin' and especially not for my two favorite ladies." He smiled while placing a kiss on the top of Leela's head and then one on Shay's cheek.
Shay smiled as she leaned against Jax, relaxing against his body as he placed his free around around her side. This felt right to both of them. They felt like a family, but there were things and people stopping them from always being like this.
