SHAY WOKE UP THE NEXT MORING FEELING WELL RESTED, and while her tense run in with Tara Knowles was still roaming around in her mind, Shay just didn't have the energy or the time to entertain the doctor's baseless accusations.
The Miller woman knew she could deny the doctors lies until she was blue in the face, and Tara would still be adamant that Shay and Gemma had something to do with Wendy's hospital overdose. Tara could believe whatever she wanted to and Shay would just go on living her life as she always had β not giving one fuck about the doctor.
Leela's soft cries came over the baby monitor breaking Shay from her thoughts. She placed a soft kiss on the corner of Ben's mouth before slipping out of his embrace and making her way out of the room.
"Good morning, baby." Shay spoke softly, a smile on her face as she walked into the pale yellow room. "Are you hungry?" The raven haired woman asked β even though she knew she'd get no answer from the baby other than some excited babbling.
Shay picked Leela up from her crib, placing a kiss on the top of her daughter's head before quickly changing her diaper and getting her dressed into a pink Samcro shirt (courtesy of Gemma) and a pair of shorts before making her way to the kitchen with Leela in her arms.
A sigh escaped Shay's mouth as she sat down at the kitchen table with a cup of coffee in front of her. It had been a few days since she last saw Jax and she had made the decision last night that she would go over to his house to check up on him.
She was still trying to digest her father's words about people dealing with things in their own way, but Jax needed a push. He had two children he needed to there for. So, moping around wasn't an option for him in Shay's opinion.
"It's my two favorite ladies." Ben's deep voice interrupted Shay's thoughts as he walked into the kitchen with a lazy smile on his face. "Good morning." He spoke, placing a kiss on Shay's lips before sitting down next to her.
A soft smile took over Shay's face as she stared at Ben. Her and Ben's relationship was unconventional like most things in her life. It had only been two months after giving birth to Leela when she reconnected with her old friend Benjamin Costello, and while she felt an attraction, Shay was nowhere near wanting to be in a relationship. But, life had other plans for her and she would always be thankful for Ben re-entering her life when he did. He brought some sense of normalcy into her otherwise chaotic world.
"Morning." Shay smiled, a laugh falling from her lips as Leela excitedly reached her tiny arms out towards Ben. "I think she wants you to pick her up." She deadpanned as she raised the coffee cup up to her mouth.
"I got you, Lee." Ben chuckled as he picked the nine month old up from her high chair. "What do you have planned for today?" He asked while placing Leela on his lap.
"I'm gonna go over to Jax's. He hasn't seen Leela in a few days with everything going on, and I need to see how he's doing." Shay said while scratching her forehead.
Ben nodded, his dark eyes staring into Shay's blue ones. "I can't even imagine what he's going through. I know me and him aren't friends β hell, I don't think he'd even consider us acquaintances if it wasn't for you, but if he needs some to have a beer or two with I'm here."
Shay smiled gratefully at her boyfriend. His words were nice and meant a lot to her, but she wouldn't be extending Ben's kind offer to Jax. Jax had the club or her if he wanted to have a beer or two and talk about his feelings. So, while it was a nice sentiment it was pointless.
"You're really great. Has anyone ever told you that?"
"Once or twice." Ben laughed.

A FRUSTRATED SIGH ESCAPED THE MILLER WOMAN'S PURSED LIPS as she stood outside of Jax's house, knocking loudly on the front door. She knew he was home (his motorcycle in the driveway a dead giveaway) she had sent him a text β that went unanswered βΒ before leaving her house that she was coming over with Leela. So, her arrival wasn't (that) unexpected.
Shay removed her knuckles from the door, muttering a few choice words for her best friend under her breath as she searched through her bag for a bobby-pin. It wasn't the most ideal way to pick a lock but it was the way she had learned to do it, and it never failed her.
"Gotcha." Shay muttered. A satisfied smirk made it's way onto her face as she heard the lock make that oh so wonderful click noise. It was like music to her ears. "Jax!" The Miller woman yelled as she walked into the house, hoisting a fussy Leela up on her hip.
"I swear to god." She muttered as she walked further into the quiet house. It was completely silent and still inside the home, unnerving the woman. "It's okay, Leela." Shay assured the now crying child. "Daddy is in here β somewhere." She mumbled the last part to herself.
Shay made her way further into the house, walking towards Jax's bedroom only to stop short when she noticed his body passed out on the floor of Abel's nursery with an empty bottle of alcohol in front of him. A soft sigh fell from her lips as she stared at her blonde haired best friend, the frustration she once felt slowly began to disappear from her body.
"Jax." Shay spoke softly as she kneeled down in front of his sleeping body, lightly shaking his shoulder. "Hey, Jax, wake up." Her voice came out louder and firmer this time as she shook his shoulder with more force.
"Shay?" Jax's blue eyes were bloodshot as he stared up at Shay with confusion on his exhausted face.
"Clean yourself up, Jax." Shay said with a sigh as she stood up. "Then we need to talk." She added before walking out of the room, leaving Jax to sigh and run a hand over his face.

IT WAS HALF AN HOUR LATER WHEN JAX ENTERED THE LIVING ROOM in just a pair of gray sweatpants β his Leela and Abel tattoos inked proudly across his bare chest. A smile formed on his face as he sat down next to Shay on the couch, taking Leela from her arms, placing his daughter on his lap while kissing the top of her head.
He hated that it had been a few days since he last saw his daughter. Jax never realized how much love a person was capable of until Leela was born, and then it was like his heart grew just so it was able to carry all the love around inside he felt. It was the exact same feeling when Abel was born. He didn't think he was capable of anymore love until Abel came along, but Wendy managed to fuck that all up.
Now, Jax didn't even know if his son would survive, and he wasn't sure what would happen to his heart if that happened. Would all the love he felt just suddenly disappear?
"So, you wanna tell me why I found you passed out in Abel's room with an empty bottle of alcohol?" Shay questioned with a raised brow as she stared at Jax.
A deep sigh left Jax's mouth, "It's not a big deal, Mills. I had a bad night and decided to have a drink and I just passed out in there."
"I didn't know having a drink meant drinking the whole bottle." Shay spoke with sarcasm dripping from her words. "You know you could of came over and talked to me."
"Didn't want to interrupt you and Benny boy." Jax teased with that infamous Teller smirk on his face.
Jax watched as Shay rolled her blue eyes at his comment. The Prince of Charming didn't have any problems with Benjamin Costello, he was a nice enough guy and he treated Shay and Leela well, but Jax always felt a pang of jealously whenever he saw Ben with his arms wrapped around Shay or whenever he made those stupid voices that his daughter seemed to go crazy for.
"Don't be an ass, Jackson." Shay stated. "You also wanna tell me why you haven't been to the hospital to see Abel?"
It didn't surprise Jax that Shay was asking him the questions no one else dared too (besides Gemma of course) Shay had never let Jax off the hook easy. It just wasn't in the Miller woman's nature to let Jax Teller get away with anything.
"What if he doesn't survive, Shay? What am I suppose to do then? I'm just suppose to get attached to him and then watch him die? I can't do that." Jax said, running a hand over his face.
"You need to be there for Abel." Shay stated firmly. "He's growing stronger each day, and it's not fair that your mom is sitting up there while you do stupid shit. If he doesn't survive you still need to be there, Jax. Wouldn't you rather be there enjoying every second you can with him?" Her blue eyes connected with Jax's, praying that she had gotten through to him.
"You're right." Jax nodded after a moment, letting Shay's words sink in. "Will you come with me?" He asked. His blue eyes were full of need and hopefulness as he stared at his best friend.
"Of course." Shay nodded, a smile growing on her face.
"I love you, darlin'." Jax said, placing a kiss on her cheek.
"I love you, too."
