Serena had heard all of the stories surrounding the original family. Legends spread all throughout the world about the first-ever vampires and the chaos and bloodshed that followed their every move. But the myth of the hybrid would always sent chills down her spine. She never expected to ever cross paths with the infamous Niklaus Mikaelson nor did she ever expect to fall in love with him.

Back in the 1920s, Serena had put her whole life on hold, desperately trying to bring her twin brother back from the edge. His humanity was buried deep in the depths of his guilt and pain, and he wore his apathy like armor. It was in Chicago where she almost came close to breaking through to him when Klaus Mikaelson came in to the picture and ruined all her progress. She hated him then, and her hatred for him amused him—it intrigued him. The more he fought to know her the more she pulled away, but it became a game they both grew to love.

Eventually, Serena had let down her walls, and Klaus opened the doors to the fortress he had built around his heart. She discovered every scar, uncovered every secret and desire, and nurtured every wound. She stood by Klaus throughout every battle no matter how big or small. When he waged war against his enemies, she never once ran for the hills; instead, she ran towards the battlefield, and with his current fight it was no different.

Serena headed to Mystic Falls ready to help her husband break his hybrid curse only to discover that the doppelgänger was being protected by her own brothers who she hadn't seen in years. Now, Serena is caught in a war between her newfound family and her own blood.
