1.5 | Soulmate Understanding

════ ★: *.☪ .* :☆ ════

It hadn't gone unnoticed by Lydia Martin that Scott and Stiles seemed to be enchanted by the presence of Jasmine Portman and with everything she had learnt about Lute Sirens, she felt a little concerned about the cause. Kira had to remind Lydia about the Soulmate side of Lute Sirens leaving the Banshee with many, many questions about its true possibility and whether or not it was something that she should be worried about. In the time that Lydia had known Scott, she knew with the trauma of Allison's death, he would be very overprotective and possessive over Jasmine in fear of losing her and lack of understanding. While Stiles' more human instincts, though altered by his time possessed by Void, weren't as strong as an Alpha Werewolf.

So while they focused on the threat of the Deadpool, Lydia had tasked Malia and Kira with learning more about Jasmine's species and their Soulmates. With the help of the Beastiary, they learnt that Lute Sirens had been gifted with Soulmates for their transition from Sailor Killers to protectors of their own free will. The news eased the three girls worried for their best guy friends but it left them with one question; Was Jasmine mated to both of them? Malia hadn't been too bothered by that question, she didn't see any issues with the three being together as it was more protection and love for the baby and Jasmine herself. Kira was a little uneasy, worried about Jasmine's wellbeing while Lydia was sure that if Allison were around, the Argent Huntress would want Scott and Stiles happy.

Meanwhile, Scott and Stiles were a little more preoccupied with solving the whole Deadpool issue to protect the seventeen-year-old-to-be mother from a horrifying fate that didn't settle well in either of their hearts. The simple thought of Jasmine adorning a single cut from one of the assassins stirred an anger in Scott's mind that he feared turning into Peter Hale while Stiles was still affected by the aftermath of Void's presence which left him with a tense possessive feeling swirling through his body; protecting Jasmine and her baby was above everything - no matter how selfish it may seem. This, of course, left Jasmine worried as her knowledge of Soulmates was so little that she had no idea how to help them through it.

And to add to their chaos, Liam was Scott's new Beta and the young boy was already protective of Jasmine; eager to keep her safe much like his Alpha. But it wasn't difficult to tell that Jasmine had formed a bond with the young Beta as proven as she sat in the gym alongside Mason and Liam; both boys working out while Jasmine was studying. "You know how I keep reminding Garrett to give me back my hoodie?" Mason asked a distracted Liam. "Yeah..." Liam breathed in response, though his attention was more focused on the bar he was lifting. "Well, I remembered you said that he lived in that housing development on Spaulding... So, I went there, and guess what?" Mason questioned but immediately added, "The housing development? Is still in development."

Jasmine furrowed her brows at that, she raised her gaze to the Freshmen with a confused expression, "That's... strange." Mason nodded in agreement with her, glad at least one of his friends was listening. "So?" Liam asked distractedly. "There are no houses yet! So, unless the dude lives in some backhoe, there's something he's not telling us..." Mason trailed off as Liam added more weights to the bar, the sight caught both Jasmine and Mason's full attention. While Jasmine was heavily unsettled about the information on Garrett who was determined to be her friend alongside his girlfriend, Violet, she became more distracted by the way Liam kept adding more weight that an average fifteen-year-old would not be able to lift.

"And then there's this other dude, man..." Mason began with a shake of his head, "He's... He's been acting really strange-- running to school for no reason, disappearing at parties... He used to be my best friend..." Jasmine felt for Mason but it wasn't her place to reveal the big change in Liam's life, it was up to him to do that. "...And, he's apparently on steroids..." Mason spoke alarmed while Jasmine walked over to Liam and placed her hand on the bar. "What?" Liam asked confused, he hadn't taken notice of what he was doing. "You're not actually going to lift that, are you?" Mason asked the boy who looked up at Jasmine, the girl shaking her head; even with Werewolf strength, she wouldn't let him strain himself.

"Are you all right? I mean, is it about the game tonight?" Mason asked his best friend who sat up, he relaxed as Jasmine placed her hand on his shoulder. "I'm fine. It's just a scrimmage," Liam replied to his best friend evasively. "...You know who you're playing, right?" Mason asked while Jasmine looked between them feeling left out, she could see the worry in Mason's eyes. "Yeah," Liam replied before shaking his head, "I mean, no. I guess I missed the announcement." Mason frowned deeply as he spoke his next words, "Liam... it's your old school. Devenford Prep." Liam tensed up under Jasmine's hand, she could feel the anger burning through him as he stood up and walked out of the gym leaving Jasmine and Mason to share a look of concern.

"What the hell? Where's my stick?" Liam muttered as he looked around the locker room. After he had stormed away from Mason and Jasmine, he went to find his things to prepare for the Scrimmage against his former school. "Is this yours?" An unfamiliar voice to the boy spoke, stepping out of the shadows with a Lacrosse stick in hand and a smirk on his face. Liam let out a warning growl as Derek snapped the stick in half angering the teen wolf who rushed forward only for Derek to slam him against the lockers, Liam growling. "Liam..." Scott's voice echoed through the room, the steady presence of his Alpha allowed the boy to relax. "You're right-- he is angry," Derek spoke up as he released the teen.

"This one's yours," Scott threw Liam his actual Lacrosse Stick, "Get to class, Liam." The Beta glared at Derek for a moment before listening to Scott and leaving the locker room. Derek turned to Scott with a smile, pride swirling in his eyes that caught Scott's attention, "What are you smiling about?" Derek chuckled slightly, "You're gonna be good at this." Scott scoffed as he sat on the bench, exhaustion showing in his eyes. "Are you kidding? I am totally unprepared!" Scott exclaimed to Derek, "Remember how you said you could teach me a few things? I think right now, I could use a full-on training manual..." Derek was amused by Scott's self-doubt but he knew that Scott could handle this, he just needed a little boost of confidence.

"I'll tell you one thing-- that anger he's got? It'll make him strong," Derek advised. "And dangerous..." Scott added with a worrisome frown, he felt so much guilt for biting Liam and changing his life so drastically. "Very," Derek agreed. "This was supposed to be the semester I could focus on school again... But Kate's back and I've got a Beta, and there's a Deadpool..." Scott trailed off as Derek spoke, "If all of our names are on that list, then that's what we should be focused on. Do you think Lydia can get the second key?" Scott sighed, his mind immediately trailing to Jasmine as he spoke, "She's working on it..." Derek nodded before smirking, "So Jasmine Portman, huh?" Scott looked up at Derek, the eighteen-year-old wolf didn't know that Derek knew about her.

"How'd you know about Jasmine?" Scott asked while Derek sat down next to him on the bench, resting his hands on his lap. "I used to be an Alpha, I felt the presence of a Lute Siren the moment she showed up in town," Derek replied with a fond smile, "I knew one when I was a teenager, her name was Selene. Peter was absolutely smitten by her and I never understood it until the day she had died, Peter had never been the same after that day." Scott raised his brows at that, it explained why Peter claimed the one person who could pull him back was long gone back when they went against him the night they believed he killed Kate Argent. "Let me take a wild guess, every moment you're away from her, you feel almost itchy. You can't seem to focus enough nor feel as calm as you usually do?" Derek asked him.

"Uh, yeah. I want her to stay right by my side knowing it's safest for her... but I don't want to be overbearing to the point she refuses me... It's weird..." Scott expressed before frowning, "Everything I've learned about her already, has me completely in awe." Derek had a fond older brother smile on his face, he knew how much Scott loved Allison but that mundane love was barely anything like the bond between two mates, and this was just after the first stage of a first look. "You think you're bad now, wait until after the first kiss. The feelings only intensify with each step taken," Derek told Scott who sighed, he didn't dread it as the idea of someone made to match him perfectly was beyond anything he could ask for but the thought of scaring her or even putting her in danger by being with him terrified him.

"Stiles is the same way," Scott added making Derek's eyes widen, he turned to look at Scott who was staring off into the distance; he had no issues with the idea of sharing a soulmate with his best friend since childhood but he thought that maybe, Jasmine being with Stiles would guarantee her a safe life compared to being mated to a True Alpha as well. "You know, that makes sense to me," Derek commented with a slight chuckle, "You and Stiles are practically each half of a soul designed to match Jasmine perfectly. And you shouldn't fight it, Scott. It'll only hurt all of you in the end." Derek cupped his hand onto Scott's shoulder as he finished off by saying, "I'll grab the journal I have on the bond. Read it, understand it, and cherish it."

Jasmine was at her locker when someone leaned against the one next to hers, she closed her locker and smiled with uncertainty at the man standing before her in a leather jacket. "We haven't met, I'm Derek," Derek introduced with his hand out. "Oh, yeah! Lydia mentioned you in her update session with me," Jasmine replied as she took Derek's hand in her own, shaking it firmly before letting go. "I just wanted to say that should you need anything, feel free to ask," Derek told her as the warning bell rang out. "I greatly appreciate that, Derek. I guess I'll be seeing you around then," Jasmine replied before waving to the older wolf, she headed straight to Economics where she was slowly becoming Coach Finstock's favourite student.

"Economic disparity exists in all forms. Well, take sports, for example. Some teams have better training facilities, some have better equipment... Unlike Beacon Hills, that can barely afford the duct tape to keep our equipment together..." Coach Finstock spoke as he walked around his classroom holding a Lacrosse stick in hand, Jasmine was slightly unfocused as she stared out the window unaware of Scott's glances. Coach Finstock stopped by Stiles' desk and frowned at the crime scene images in front of the teenager, "You know, Stilinski... If I could grade you on how profoundly you disturb me, you'd be an A-plus student." Stiles smiled with pride at that while Jasmine and Scott shook their heads fondly.

"Thanks, Coach," Stiles replied with his classic grin, his eyes landing on Jasmine who smiled back before looking down at her book. "Put those pictures away," Coach Finstock ordered Stiles who immediately moved to do so before taking notice of the end of the Lacrosse Stick, he reached out and snatched the end of the stick, looking between the stick and the images of the stab wound; the end matched the indent around the stab wound. "Stilinski! The hell is wrong with you?" Coach Finstock snapped once he had gotten the stick out of Stiles' grip, "Don't answer that." Coach Finstock walked away, giving Stiles one more look as he did so. "It's a Lacrosse player," Stiles whispered to Jasmine and Scott. "The killer's on the team," Scott added, his worried gaze focused on Jasmine.
