Talent Showcase: You Can't Hug A Ghost

Unknown's P.O.V-

She cackled as the chains clasped onto her wrist. The metal seared with pain on her skin, but she continued laughing.

(Ten hours earlier)

"I don't know, Mina," The girl with black hair whispers "It's a long drop." The blonde girl shushes her

"Quiet! We're getting out of here tonight!" The blonde girl looks out the window the girls are standing by.

She tugs on what looks to be a makeshift rope, "Okay, it's ready," There's a loud rapping noise on the door. The black-haired girl stifles a scream as the blonde starts to climb out of the window.

"I know you're in there!" A witchly voice screams from inside the house. Who is she? "Come out! Amina! You shouldn't be around that adopted brat!" The words are harsh, but the girls seem unaffected.

The blonde has reached the ground, tugging the rope twice to let the other know she can come down. Without a second of hesitation, the black-haired girl grabs onto the rope and climbs down as quickly as her body will allow.

As she lands with a soft thud, the other girl- Amina- takes her hand. Seconds later, they're off into the woods, leaving the creepy, castle-like house behind.

They run through the woods for a good four hours, stopping every fifteen minutes or so to rest. Amina seems to run quickly whilst the other one tires easily.

"Winnie, do you need to stop?" Amina asks her sister

"No, keep running." She insists "We have to get to the castle. It's been four hours, we only have six more."

"Right," The girls fall silent.

What happens then? One can only wonder what the girls are whispering about. It'll be midnight in six hours. If something happens ad midnight, why do now? Why not wait?

After a long journey, the girls reach their destination. A large, looming, abandoned castle. Made of large, grey stones and built as high as the eye can see.

Winnie is shaking as they climb the stairs. Amina refuses to show her sister that she is scared and shoves open the door.

It opens with an eerie creak. A cackle comes from inside "You shouldn't have come here," A sickening voice calls.

That alone would be enough to send a grown man running. The two make eye contact before nodding and setting off into the house.

Naturally, I follow.

A tall woman, towering over the girls stands in the center of the large ballroom. What is this castle? Has it always been here? Hidden from sight. Somehow, two ten-year-old girls managed to find it?

Winnie must've said something wrong because the woman lashes out, making her across the cheek. Before she can strike again, Amina jumps in between them. She gets struck as well.

Neither girl shouts. They just stare at the women, eyes boring into her.

They're angry.

The woman grabs them by the arms, dragging them away, out of sight, down a long hallway. At the end of the hallway, there's a staircase, leading to what one would assume is a dungeon. All castles have them.

She throws them into a cell. Shackles sit on the floor "This will teach you not to search for things you cannot have," She clamps the shackles to Amnia's wrist's first. She screams out in pain as they dig into her skin.

Winnie is next.

As the old hag clamps them onto her wrist, Winnie catches my eye. A smile appears on her face. She starts to laugh.

She cackled as the chains clasped onto her wrist. The metal seared with pain on her skin, but she continued laughing.

She sees the old women's fate.

I come out from the shadows, admiring the girl. Winnie. My daughter.

The old witch notices me and lets out a bloodcurdling scream. She looks as if she's seen a ghost.

"You're dead! I killed you! I was going to kill your daughter, too!"

"Mommy!" Winnie screams, "I was trying to find her, for you! I knew you were alive!" That's what they were searching for. The witch. To avenge me.

Simply waving my hand, the old woman chokes on the breath she took in. Unable to breathe, she drops dead.

I walk into the cell that holds my daughter. I undo her chains with another wave of my hand. The chains keeping her hostile clatter to the ground. She jumps up to give me a hug, but goes right through me, falling to the ground.

After all, you can't hug a ghost.

It says this is over 700 words. But, I put the prompt in there twice (Wich was stated that it fdidn't count as part of the story), and I excluded the bolded parts, because they aren't really a part of the story!

Wattpad wasn't allowing me to publish a new book so, I'm sorry, SPHYNX1014. I'll put it in my TAHG book as soon as possible!
