THE WALKING DEAD
( season one episode one )
THE APOCALYPSE was unexpected, just like most global disasters โ except this one wiped out half the population. It left humans lost to the darkness of the world where their only chance of survival was by killing. Lucky for some people, they found refuge in the hills of Atlanta.
One of those people was Alana grimes. The sixteen year old had gotten away from the city and thanks to Shane, her and her family were safe with a group. Well, not her whole family. Her father, Rick grimes was in a coma at the hospital when everything started and unfortunately, he had passed away.
The camp was quiet, not many walkers were around and the people were pretty nice except the Dixon brothers. Both of them seemed to be assholes but Alana hadn't even spoke to them so who was she to judge?
Now, it was officially day forty - five and Alana was just praying this was some sort of nightmare and she would wake up soon โ but it was real and no matter what she did, the world wouldn't go back to normal.
"Lana!" Carl yelled, climbing into their tent and glancing around for his older sister. He finally spotted her sat in the corner, doodling in her journal.
Alana looked up at him, grinning as she sat up "what's wrong with you?"
A frown appeared on his face "did you eat my candy bar?"
Alana raised her eyebrows at him while smirking at him "sorry Carl"
He sighed before grinning back at the girl. He raised his hand slowly before throwing a handful of grass onto Alana.
"Hey- Carl I'm gonna kill you" her mouth dropped as she pushed her leg out for him to trip but Carl was too fast. He ran out the tent, laughing away at what he did. She jumped up and followed him "punk!"
"What happened to you?" A familiar voice asked. Alana turned around to see her mother sat on a log, smirking at her daughter.
"Your son" Alana replied, approaching her as she pushed the grass off her clothes "I swear to god I'm gonna kill him. He's driving me crazy, mom!"
Lori shrugged, shaking her head in disagreement "you did eat his last candy bar"
"I was starving!" Alana told her, shocked that her mother would take his side "and you said I could eat it. Nobody told me it was carls" she glanced to her little brother who was stood laughing with sophia "at least he's having fun even if it is at my expense"
Sophia was a young girl they had met on the highway. She was carls age and her family seemed nice. Her mother, Carol was lovely but her father seemed quite controlling.
Lori turned to her daughter and softly smiled "I just wish you would too"
Before Alana could reply, her mother cut her off "I know, you are but โ I just wish you had a friend. Someone your own age"
"I have Glenn" Alana argued, brushing her hair behind her ears. Glenn Rhee was one of the first people at camp. He was the first person Alana had spoke to that wasn't Shane, Lori or Carl and instantly she'd felt like she'd known him for years.
Lori frowned at Alana "Glenn's twenty-two"
"But he acts sixteen most the time" she responded, grinning at her mother.
"I mean โ" Lori replied, shrugging her shoulders "I can't really argue with you on that"
"Exactly" Alana stated in a I told you so tone.
All of a sudden, a frantic voice caught their attention. "Hello? Hello? Can you hear me?"
It was Amy Harrison, crouched on the floor beside the C.B. The blonde was pushing all sorts of buttons, eager to contact the person on the other side "yes โ I can hear you, you're coming through. Over."
Lori jumped up and gestured for her daughter to follow. They both approached Amy and Dale who were stood over the C.B. The radio crackled and all they could hear was small snippets of a voice.
Dale peered at Shane who was making his way toward them "come on son, you know best how to work this thing"
Shane slammed his axe into the wooden table and took the walkie from Amy. "Hello? Hello? Is the person who called still on air?"
Nothing but static.
Shane glanced up to them before looking back to the radio. "This is officer Shane Walsh broadcasting to person unknown, please respond"
Again, nothing but static.
Shane placed the radio down and stood up, sighing heavily "he's gone"
"There are others" Lori began, stepping toward them "it's not just us"
Shane turned to the brunette and gestures to the C.B "we knew there would be, right? It's why we left the C.B on"
"Lot of good it's been doing" Lori commented, putting her hands on her hips "and I been saying for a week, we ought to put signs up on eighty - dove to warn people away from the city"
Amy nodded her head in agreement "folks got no idea what they're getting into"
Shane shook his head "well, we haven't had time"
"I think we need to make time" Lori shot back, glaring at him.
Shane rubbed the back of his head "yeah, that's โ that's a luxury we can't afford" he paused before glancing around at everyone "we are surviving here. We are day to day"
Dale frowned, staring at shane. It was silent before he turned to Lori, arching his eyebrows "and who the hell would you propose we send?"
"I'll go" Lori snapped at him, crossing her eyebrows "give me a vehicle"
"Nobody goes anywhere alone" Shane argued, seemingly sick of talking about it "you know that"
Alana stepped beside her mother, making eye contact with Shane "I'll go with her โ"
"Nobody's going anywhere" Shane instantly cut her off, folding his arms.
"Yes sir" Lori responded, giving Shane a dirty look and storming away.
Carl immediately chased after Lori before Shane blocked his path. "Hey buddy, you stay with Alana okay?"
Alana approached them and placed a hand on carls shoulder as she glared at Shane. She didn't hate him, she was just irritated. He kept acting like their father when he wasn't and he had been hooking up with her mother. The girl had saw them kissing in his tent the other week and now it all made sense.
In her opinion, he was just taking advantage of Lori. She was a grieving widow that needed comfort. It was him that turned it into something else.
___
CARL SAT BESIDE HIS SISTER both of them waiting for Lori. It was getting late and she was still 'talking' to Shane. Alana glanced down to her little brother who was messing around with the gravel.
"hey โ you wanna play a game?" Alana asked, sweetly smiling at him as she tied her hair back into a ponytail.
He looked up back at her, raising his eyebrows and sitting up properly "what type of game?"
the girl shrugged, she could hardly think of any suitable games that you'd be able to play in their circumstances. "How about โ uh hide and seek?"
Carls lips formed a grin before he jumped up and began backing away "your it!"
Alana watched him walk away while she shook her head "I always am!"
her eyes drifted to the floor where she began counting.

"Ten!" Alana said, getting up and glancing around for her younger brother. She approached their tent, the RV and the cars but Carl wasn't anywhere.
The brunette looked onto the RV roof where Dale was stood peering around in his binoculars "hey Dale, have you seen my brother anywhere?"
"I don't think so" Dale replied, shaking his head and glancing around the camp.
Alana ran her tongue across her teeth, her last guess was the woods. But Carl wasn't stupid enough to go in there, was he?
She made her way toward the trees and without realising, she was further away from camp than she should have been.
All of a sudden, leaves rustling caught her attention. Alana peered into the distance as the sound got louder "Carl? Carl โ this isn't funny!"
She back away slowly and grabbed a stick from the ground. She held it in front of her before Shane jumped out in the clear "Jesus Christ!" Alana screamed, flinching at him.
Shane glared at the girl, taking the stick from her hands "Alana? What are you doing out here?"
"I was โ" the girl began, getting rudely cut off by him.
"Does your mom know you're out here?" He asked, his voice getting louder.
"Calm down" Alana told him, frowning "it isn't a โ"
"what if there was a geek? Did you think of that?" Shane snapped, cutting her off once again "what about Carl? What if he came out here and got lost? You know your not supposed to be out here!"
"well if you had finished talking to my mom sooner maybe I wouldn't be out here!" She shot back, using air quotes as she spoke "you're not my dad so please โ just stop!"
Alana stormed off back to camp before he could respond. He kept acting like her father and she was sick of it. He wasn't her father and he never would be. No matter how hard he tried. Nobody could replace rick grimes
___
THE SUN HAD SET and most people in camp were asleep including Carl. He was hidden with Sophia in her tent and after a while, he had given up and played a new game with her without telling his older sister.
Alana couldn't sleep. She had tossed and turned in her bed for hours now but it was useless, she couldn't sleep. The girl grabbed her pair of dirty converse and slid them on her feet before creeping out of her tent.
The group was set in the Atlanta hills and lucky enough, right by the quarry. After a few minutes of walking, Alana was soon sat on a rock above the quarry where she had a view of almost everything.
the lake, the hills, even the city in the distance but most importantly, the brunette could see the stars. the sky was full of them. Whenever she couldn't sleep at night, she would sit and look at the stars.
Stars were eternal, no matter what happened the stars were always there. They were beacons of hope for all the lost souls of the world, all of the people lost to the darkness due to this plague.
Her father used to tell her that stars guided you home, especially the North Star. Alana always believed in heaven, in spirits and even life after death. She liked to believe her father was watching over her, making sure she was okay. Maybe it was childish and delusional? or maybe it was due to grief? But it was real for her.
Authors note
This is basically like a prologue so the chapters will get longer soon โผ๏ธ
But yeah anyway this is Alana!! She's sixteen and currently missing her father. As Shane is like the closest thing she has to like a father figure, she is taking it out on him.
I kinda hate this โ but I'm republishing so i might make changes cause why not! But I hope to have every chapter republished soon so I can finally finish season four!!
The stars are gonna be like a repeated thing!! For example after the prison falls, when everyone's separated โ I'm not gonna spoil tho โญ๏ธ
