39| Crazed Reaper

The son of the Prime Minister was dissatisfied. Dissatisfied with the results that he received from his father, how Run was still able to be one step ahead of him even though he's dead. How proof of his actions that abused his power was easily found out and easily convicted him of losing his police force.

Swaying with anger, Syura headed down the archway and began to head for the entrance to the torture room. He wanted to take his anger out on Lubbock and extract information from him.

Syura: (thoughts) 'I'm not done yet. Not by a long shot. I still have a way to turn this around. I can still use my authority over Wild Hunt to work over the prisoner. I'll get him to spill Night Raid's location and capture the rest of them before the day is through. Then my dad won't have anything to complain about! And if he doesn't talk... I'll use my last resort. I'll turn the Capital into a sea of fire. That'll lure Night Raid here for sure! And the moment they come to the rescue... I'll kill them.'

He thought of this scenario while he held a crazed grin on his face. He was getting way in over his head.

Barging into the torture room, he finds the torturer holding a whip, Lubbock shackled to the ceiling. He then yelled with all of his might, as loudly as he could, angry clearly filled in his voice.

Syura: "Now do you feel like telling me about Night Raid!? You hate that asshole Tatsumi, don't you!? You gotta survive so you can give him a piece of your mind!"

The green-haired assassin flinched at how loud Syura's voice was. He shivered, shook, and trembled, almost looking terrified. The son of the Prime Minister thrust a finger out to him.

Syura: "If you refuse or stay silent, I'll poke an eye out, you hear me? Then I'll shave off all your ears and nose and cut off each finger, one at a time! So you'd better get talking, got it?"

He didn't receive a response. Syura clicked his tongue grabbed the needle off the table and prepared to poke out Lubbock's eye. But it was at that moment...

Lubbock finally cracked.

Lubbock: "Okay! Wait!" (lets out tears) "...Wait. I'll talk. I'll talk, so please, spare me..."

Syura: (chortles) "I knew I was right to take one of your balls! You're a smart kid."

Torturer: "The kid spent the entire night trembling."

Syura: (smug whilst crossing arms) "That's more like it. Now, spill all of your secrets. From the top."

Lubbock: "Tatsumi's Teigu, Incursio... Has the ability to turn invisible."

Syura: "I know that already. I already have him, so I don't care about Incursio. What about the Ice Cold Reaper? He's apart of your team, yeah? What's his?"

Lubbock: Ak... The reaper's Teigu, Harvester allows him to steal souls... And he can use them to bring them back as his servant to fight. That's all I know."

Syura: "Okay? Tell me about Murasame. What's Murasame's secret?"

Lubbock: "...It has one...and yet it doesn't..."

Syura: (angered) "What!? You trying to be funny!?"

Lubbock: (grin) "It's true. It has one, but... Apparently, Akame can't use it as she is now... That's why I've never seen her use it."

Syura: "Tch. Useless." (getting impatient) "Tell me about the hideout."

Lubbock: "If you get me a map of the area around the Capital... I'll point it out to you..."

It all sounded too good to be true from what the tanned-skin man was hearing. It was possible that what Lubbock had proposed could possibly be a trap. Either way, he needed information so he could get back on his father's good side, but he still needed to be cautious. Lubbock was a very crafty and tactful person.

He then looked to the torturer that was to his left.

Syura: "You heard him. Go fetch one."

Torturer: "Yes, sir."

Before going to go fetch one, the torturer went over to the chain links and began to lower down Lubbock. Undoing the shackles that were wrapped around his wrists, Lubbock suddenly dropped to his knees. The torturer then proceeded to take off the bindings on his hands, Lubbock getting a feel for them once they were off.

The torturer was ordered to go find the map Lubbock requested, Syura walking up to the green-haired teen. However, he soon grew confused when he saw Lubbock dig into his mouth, then quickly taking his hand back out.

Lubbock: "...I just realized, there's something I forgot to tell you about."

Syura: (crouches down) "Oh?"

Lubbock: "There's one more Teigu user with a secret."

Syura: "And who's that?"

Words did leave Lubbock's mouth, but they were incomprehensible. Syura couldn't hear him speak, the green-haired assassin muttering something. This prompted Syura to cup his own ear, leaning in a bit so he could better hear Lubbock's words.

Syura: "Huh? I can't hear you."

Syura was expecting an answer, yes. But the answer he received wasn't the one he was expecting at all. In fact, it happened so fast that he didn't even have time to react.

Lunging his arms forward, Lubbock used whatever thread he had left from Cross Tail, wrapping them around Syura's neck and body. He then proceeded to strangle him, Syura choking as he dropped to the floor and tried to wriggle out of it. The tanned-skin man could see Lubbock holding a grin on his face, the green-haired assassin's plan having paid off.

Lubbock: "I had some threads stored in my mouth. I fooled you with that 'scared shitless' act. The members of Night Raid are united! I would never turn on my teammates!" (thoughts) 'Thinking about Najenda enables me to endure any kind of pain.'

Syura was bleeding out on the ground. He couldn't believe that he was taken out by a measly assassin, someone that had outsmarted him. Outsmarted for the second time.

He then outstretched his hand outward, seeing a vision of his father casting a disapproving look at him. The vision of Honest was then engulfed in smoke, Syura's life leaving him as he faces the light. Syura's eyes then roll in the back of his head, his body moving limp. The door to the cell soon opens, the torturer from before coming in with a map, along with another torturer. However, they gasped as they see Lubbock standing over a now dead Syura.

Torturer 1: "H...! He... He killed the Prime Minister's son!"

Torturer 2: "Get him!"

The first torturer rushes at him, Lubbock doing the same as he lands the first strike. He grabbed the arm of the lunging fist coming towards him, Lubbock pushing it upwards to bypass the strike. The green-haired assassin then punches the torturer in his chest, then moving his hand down to his pants as he grabs the hem of it. Lifting him up, Lubbock then throws him back over to the entrance, quickly running over as he punches the torturer in the face.

The face mask that protected the torturer didn't do much, the torturer grunting in pain as he fell to the ground. The stone tiles below soon cracked and broke, the impact it sustained from the torturer doing damage as he didn't move. The other torturer stared at Lubbock in fear, quickly turning around as he ran away.

Torturer 2: "P-Prison break!"

And now, it started. Lubbock's escape.

Taking the blade that belonged to the executioner, he grabbed it before walking over to Syura's corpse. He then rummages around in his back pocket, looking for something. Standing up, Lubbock held the former Syura's Teigu, Shambala. He was determined to survive and make it back, no matter what.

Esdeath was currently in the midst of sorting some paperwork in her office. She wanted to get it done as fast as possible so she could head back to Tatsumi's cell and convince him to come to her side. But she knew that swaying him wouldn't be so easy.

As she scribbled away and shuffled through the many papers, the door to her office was slammed open. A panicked soldier had rushed in, fear being written all over his face.

Imperial Soldier: "G-General Esdeath!"

Esdeath: (annoyed) "What? You're being a distraction, so hurry it up."

Imperial Soldier: "W-Were being attacked! Great General Budo has already mobilized the rest of the Imperial Guard! Please, hurry!"

Esdeath: "Is that so? I don't see why you need me then."

Imperial Soldier: "B-But it's a huge threat! I-It's the Ice Cold Reaper!"

The icy general immediately halted what she was doing, the quill she held in her hand stopped writing on the paper. She then stood up, adjusting her hat and grabbed the soldier by the front of his collar.

Esdeath: (demanding tone) "Where?"

Imperial Soldier: "J-Just down the corridor!"

With the directions received, she quickly shoved the soldier aside. Esdeath quickly took off down the corridor, not long after finding Akira's bloody work. The many corpses of many Imperial soldiers littered the corridor, most of them having their body parts being dismembered and heads lopped off. If the limbs were still attached, then they would be severely mangled, cuts or chunks missing off of it.

Along with these body parts, blood and intestines were sprayed everywhere. Especially the windows and walls, everything being painted a dark red. This wasn't just a murder, far from it.

It was a massacre.

And they would continue to suffer more casualties, the defense of the palace being crippled if Akira's bloodlust continued any longer.

Using Shambala, Lubbock slammed the Teigu onto the ground, the object activating as a yin-yang symbol appeared below him. He was then transported, the green-haired teen looking around as he searched for where he was.

Unfortunately for him, the Teigu didn't transport him far.

Lubbock: "I'm still in the palace!" (places Teigu on ground) "Anywhere will do! Just get me out of the palace!"

Nothing happened.

Lubbock: "Shit! I can't use it twice in a row!?"

Soldier: "A rebel! He's over here!"

Lubbock: "And now there's a horde of them!?"

Soldiers and personnel began to rush out of the doors coming from the archways. Sooner or later, Lubbock would be surrounded and evidently killed.

Soldier: "A fugitive! Kill him!"

Clicking his tongue in frustration and annoyance, Lubbock took off in the opposite direction of the soldiers. It seems that after using Shambala once, there's a cool down to how many times you can use it in succession. So his choice is either wait it out and fight them off for the cool down to finish, or stand still and let himself be killed.

He chose the former.

As he kept running across the courtyard, he spotted a man with a katana coming towards him. It was Izou, a fern in his mouth as he kept a hand on the handle of his beloved sword.

Izou: "Kotetsu... Time to eat."

Lubbock: (thoughts) 'Playing dead won't work with this guy.'

Letting out a rage-filled battle cry, Lubbock ran forward with the sword in his hand, the other holding Shambala. Izou prepared to take out Kotetsu in response to the green-haired assassin's attack. But just before they could attack each other, something drew them to the right.

Screams of terror could be held. They could see streams of Imperial soldiers running for their lives, some of them even pushing down their comrades to save their own skin. But in a quick second, they were all frozen in an instant, Lubbock and Izou shocked to see the display. They were then suddenly shattered, a figure leaping out from under the archway and onto the field.

Opposite of the figure, Esdeath ran out onto the field as well, her eyes wide as she caught sight of him.

Lubbock: "Akira!? What the hell are you doing here!?"

He received no such answer from the boy. Akira's crazed glare was deadset on Esdeath, to whom was responded with an icy glare of her own. Some Imperial guards soon rallied with her, the three guards holding lances as they kept them ready.

The black-haired teen simply giggled in a sadistic nature, which soon morphed to laughter, slowly walking towards her, but still kept a cautious distance.

Akira: "I've been looking for you..." (crazed grin grows wider) "I will take that head from your shoulders. And hang it... From the gates of the Capital!"

The icy blue-eyed teen let out a cackle as he ran straight forward, his scythe in hand. Izou went to attack but soon stopped, noticing the three guards on Esdeath side ran towards the reaper. Clearly they thought that they would win in numbers.

As they charged forward, meeting him head on, Akira threw his scythe in the direction of Esdeath. It just barely missed the soldiers' heads, grazing the top of their helmets. Esdeath's eyes widened as she didn't have time to react, the scythe that was thrown toward her nearly slicing her head off. Fortunately for her, the blade of the scythe only stabbed her hat, flinging it right off her head and embedding it into the wall behind her.

Once the first guard drew near, Akira immediately shoulder bashed him, knocking him to the ground. He quickly conjured an ice dagger and threw it, killing the soldier as it struck his face. The second one went to thrust his lance forward, but Akira reacted quickly, dodging the thrust and grabbing the back of the soldier's helmet. He forces him down to the ground, the Ice Cold Reaper having the soldier face him, Akira reeling his fist back before rushing it forward. He punched the soldier's head so hard that his fist went right through, going past the skull as his fist was covered in blood and parts of the soldier's brain.

The third one had flanked from the side and went to slash with his lance. Akira quickly stood up and lunged his left hand to the side, grabbing the soldier's face. The soldier quivered in fear, begging for Akira to let him go and spare his life. However, he soon found his head being encased in ice, the icy blue-eyed teen crushing the covered head with all his strength. Shattered into smaller crystals, the corpse dropped to the floor.

They were all shocked with the carnage they had witnessed. He had spared no mercy, ending them all with sheer brutality, all while he kept an emotionless look on his face. Akira looked up again, his gaze set on Esdeath. The voice in his head told him to kill her. Make her suffer. Relish in the bounty of blood that would spray on him once he's killed her.

Hearing the orders from his head, it brought enjoyment to him. His previous emotionless face soon contorted into the crazed grin he was associated with.

Izou measured his opponents. It was either he went after Lubbock or Akira, the latter being the most dangerous. It was clear that he was deadset on Esdeath, so the logical choice was to go after and kill the green-haired assassin.

But how could Izou pass up on such a powerful opponent?

Unsheathing Kotetsu, he ignores Lubbock and dashes for the Ice Cold Reaper. He readied his weapon and went to decapitate his head off. But he was surprised when Akira caught the blade, the sharp edge cutting into his skin. Akira was unfazed by it, turning to look at Izou with an annoyed and bloodthirsty glare.

Akira: "Don't stand in my way!"

He kicks Izou off of him, his sole focus now on him. Taking Gin's blade off his back, he rushed towards the swordmaster and began to attack him relentlessly, giving Izou no time to retaliate whatsoever.

Izou acknowledged Akira as a worthy opponent, seeing as he was being held off like this. In turn, a grin began to elicit on his own face, the swordmaster wanting Kotetsu to drain the blood of the reaper in front of him.

Lubbock only kept staring at the scene in front of him with wide eyes. At this point, Akira wasn't even something to be called a human. If you were to ask any other person that was watching this, they'd mostly respond with, "The massacre of a demon." Soldiers and personel alike were ignoring, focused on the huge threat that was in front of them. Even Esdeath was ignoring him. Despite the hordes surrounding him, Akira was able to take them all on by himself, using his blade to swiftly cut down anyone that was near him. He did this all while he kept a pleased and pleasured smile on his face, enjoying the blood bath that was being created.

He was now left with two choices. Should he stay to help him or should he flee?

After weighing the possibilities, Lubbock made his choice to leave the palace and regroup with everyone else. He had to report it back to them. The green-haired assassin soon went to a safe place, out of plain sight and used Shambala, teleporting himself to elsewhere.

With Lubbock gone, there was nothing holding Akira back. He continued his massacre, dodging strikes from Izou whilst using his own blade to cut off the heads and bisect the soldiers that coming to him. He then held his arm out, his scythe soon returning to him and began his onslaught again. Cutting more soldiers in half, cutting their heels before decapitating their heads or mincing them into smaller pieces. Akira continued to relish in the endless bloodshed, his cackling and laughs filling the palace courtyard.

Once most of them had been eliminated, he quickly made his way toward Esdeath, dodging slashes from Izou in the process. He laughed maniacally when he swung his scythe, only for it to be parried by Esdeath's rapier. Her gaze was that of awe, but also slight pity. She honestly didn't think her student's sanity would stoop down to this low. And now, a spectacle was occurring.

Whatever remaining soldiers that were alive, along with Izou, simply watched the growing battle, the two showing no signs of stopping.

But it would soon be stopped by a particular armored man. Budo would later appear and fire a controlled shock from his Teigu, stunning the teen and rendering him unconscious. The remaining soldiers went to kill him, but Esdeath simply held up her hand, halting them in their place. After all, she felt that as his teacher, it was her responsibility to be the one to end his. She then had two soldiers drag his unconscious body to the dungeon while she held onto his Teigu.

This little skirmish that had just happened wasn't over. They knew that this wouldn't be the last they'd see of Night Raid.

---

It was the next day. She remembered what he promised. He had promised that he would only be out for a few minutes, no longer than that.

And yet, he never returned. He never even returned for the night, Akame having been missing the comfort of his warmth. The warmth of his warm body, how she felt so safe in his arms, how they wrapped around her comfortably and comforting. It was at times like those she could really let her guard down.

But the only thing she received the next morning was a flyer. A flyer that announced something.

A public execution of two people that belonged to the Rebel cause. A public execution of two Night Raid members.

Tatsumi and Akira.
