"YOU GUYS EVER SEEN SOMETHING like this before?"
Never once in her life did Lynn see anything like this before.
If she wasn't standing right there in that moment, she would've thought that it was a completely fake story. But it wasn't, it's real. Slowly sinking in the water in front of her, was a plane that seemed to have split into two halves. The water, probably due to the oil seeping into it, was now on fire from impact. People were screaming, either from the wing of the plane, waving their arms on top of the plane, or thrashing around in the water.
After a short round of introductions from station 118 towards the Coast Guard. They all managed to carry a red safety boat down towards the water, jogging quickly since they were running on minutes before the entire plane would sink to the bottom.
After making it to the waters edge, they all went silent for a second to acknowledge the person almost ziptied to a plane seat. They were quite obviously dead by now, but the sight still seemed to hurt them; more so Buck than anyone.
"Just keep moving, Buck."
After a short ride towards the sinking plane, they finally made it over to the half that was open with people yelling out for them to stop, for the firefighters to save them.
People were diving into the water, and a man startled Lynn as he gripped ahold of her arm. She instantly flinched backwards, slamming harshly into Buck's chest behind her. She let out a muffled apology, and then rushed forward to start helping the man climb onto the raft.
"Where the hell are we gonna evacuate all these people to?" Buck questioned, and Lynn switched from the broken plane to his sad blue eyes.
"We have to get these people out of here and to the beach," Bobby explained, and he glanced down to the watch on his wrist. "This thing is going down in four minutes."
"It looks like no ones pulled the emergency raft yet," Lynn stated, pointing towards the front door that was now missing from the plane. "That's where it'll be, all planes are installed with them now."
Carefully and steadily, the firefighters climbed off the boat and onto the ruptured plane. First was Hen, who said she would head towards the raft at the front, followed by Bobby, then Lynn, and lastly Buck.
Lynn stopped to check the pulse of a man who was stitched to the airplane's seat, and she shook her head towards Buck before moving forward.
"You'll always have to move forward, there's nothing you can do for the ones who are already gone," Lynn's fathers voice echoed in her skull, and she needed to get ahold of her emotions if she wanted to help save anyone at all.
"Swim to the raft! Swim to the raft!"
Lynn glanced past Bobby in front of her to see that Hen had released the safety raft, and she was a bit more relieved since it would be easier to get people from the water to the raft and then to the boat.
"I can't get my seat belt off!" A man cried, and instantly Bobby and Hen swarmed around the harmed man, and Lynn's eyes landed on his stomach. The seat belt was tightened so incredibly that when the force of the plane came down, it broke through the skin.
"Mommy!"
Lynn's head jerked at the sound of a child crying out, and her blue eyes landed one two people who were still alive a few seats back.
"Cap! I'm going back there!" Lynn barked instinctively, not even waiting for approval from her captain as she started darting down the middle ground.
"Buck, go with Lynn!" Bobby ordered, pointing towards the small woman as he met eye contact with Buck, who nodded almost hesitantly and started jogging to catch up with her.
"Mommy, c'mon, we have to go," the child, who Lynn now recognized as a young boy who had a deck of cards in his hands. He was tugging on his mother's gentle hands, and Lynn was confused as to what was stopping her from moving, that's when her eyes landed on the seat from in front of her seemed squeezed against her legs.
"Ma'am, are you trapped?" Lynn questioned, placing on hand on the woman's shoulder for support while the other was on the soft, wet cushion. Without muttering a word to anyone, Buck started tugging intensely on the same crushed seat on the woman's legs, but she only let out shrieks as he did so. "Evan, stop!" Stop, Evan! Her legs are stuck in between them."
As Lynn was reaching down past the woman's lap to see if she could wiggle her skinny legs through, she gripped Lynn's shoulder tightly to gain her attention.
"Please save him," she mumbled, her voice laced with emotion, and Lynn glanced up to Buck. He instantly wrapped his large hands under the boys arms, but he started to thrash in Buck's arms.
"No, no!" The boy cried out, throwing his arms about he almost nailed Buck in the face. "I'm not leaving without you!"
"Okay, baby, listen," the woman spoke up, gripping her son with right hands to pull him closer to her. "Look, look. The firemen, and women, are here, okay? I need you to get on their boat so they can do their job. If everyone is worried about you and your pretty face, how are they gonna do what they need to do to save me?"
Lynn and Buck shared a sad expression as they listened to the speech the woman gave so confidently, and she could feel her heart strings tugging ever so tightly with each passing word
"Have I ever lied to you?" The woman questioned, where the boy slowly shook his head, and Lynn saw a tear drip down from her eye. "Then you have to believe me, I will be with you again so soon. Mommy loves you so much. Do this for me."
The boy nodded, making a whining noise as he did so. He was going against every natural instinct of leaving his parent behind, so Lynn didn't judge the crying.
"Okay, baby," the woman finished, pulling her son into the tightest hug even possible.
"Alright, got to go. I'm sorry," Bobby interrupted, and Lynn moved over a space so he would be able to see the situation they were stuck in. "That's not the last time
you're gonna see him, because I'm gonna get you out of here."
"Lynn! Buck! Check the rest of the plane! We're running low on time."
Buck and Lynn shuffled through the rest of the plane, passing by quite a few dead bodies but Lynn refused to let her eyes linger on them.
There's nothing you can do.
"Help us! I don't want to drown!"
"You hear that?" Buck questioned, pointing towards what looking like a small restroom near the back of the plane. Lynn nodded, and they stated skipping faster down the line towards them.
The two firefighters quickly started banging and shoving the cart, that was preventing them from opening up the door, and they soon realized there was no way there would be able to fiddle the metal loose in time.
"What's going on?"
Lynn glanced up to make eye contact with Hen, and she was hopeful that her bright mind would be able to come up with a situation.
"They're trapped in there, the cart is blocking it," Lynn commented, and she started scanning the area for any hopes of tools that could help them to an advantage, but there was nothing about.
"Wait, hold the boat!" Buck shouted, and Lynn realized the voice echoed twice, one in real-time and then the other in her earpiece for the radio. "Hen, tie the rope to the cart. Give me the other end, c'mon."
"Here, take the bag," Hen spoke quickly and loudly, handing off the black bag over to Buck, who instantly starting darting down the walkway, Lynn followed him, holding the rope so it would be easier for him to move faster.
"Tie it on the end!" Buck ordered the man in the raft, and after hearing Hen give the thumbs up that her side was tied nearly, Buck yelled again. "Good to go! Now, go, go, go! Everyone, stay clear!"
Just as Buck spun on his heels, preparing to dive any second, his already panicked and flushed eyes went wide as he saw Lynn standing in the middle of the isle way, checking the pulse on a man they had yet to see, "Eve, move now!"
Knowing she wouldn't be able to hear him fast enough, he launched his whole body forward. He hooked his hands onto Lynn's waist, pulling her down to the flooding floor of the plane. Apparently, he had pushed her out of the way just in time, or else Lynn's body would've been stuck to the cart as it flew by them.
When they both glanced up, they had been fully submerged into the water. When they swung their heads back from under water, that was when Buck realized he was still on top of Lynn's body, covering almost all her body just in case of the worst situation. Instantly, he retracted himself from her so he could stand up. He held out his hand for the girl, who intertwined her fingers with his palm as he raised her body up from the water.
"Thanks," Lynn breathed out, trying her best to give her lungs enough oxygen for her regular heartbeating to come back.ย
By the time the two had gotten themselves back up and working, Hen was already making towards them with what looked like two young adults; the two who must've been stuck inside the bathroom.
"Watch your step. Y'all walk ahead," Hen commanded, carefully stepping since the dirty water was covering almost everything and she wouldn't be able to see what she was stepping on. "Get on the boat. Come on, Buck, Lynn, let's go now, now, now!"
Buck and Lynn shared one glance, and after hearing the call from Bobby to order any rescue personnel to leave the plane now, they knew what they had to do.
"The rope can get the seat lose," Buck instructed, grasping the rope in his hands even tighter than before.
"Exactly," Lynn nodded, and almost as if they were sharing the same thought, they both dived into the water that was now growing up to their necks, and made it towards the back of the plane where Bobby and the woman was.
"Cap! Bobby!" Lynn cried out, rubbing her eyes a bit as water fully went over her head, but she bobbed back up to the surface. "The rope!"
But it seemed like just as soon as Bobby gripped ahold of the rope in her hand, a tide swept both Lynn and Buck backwards. Even against all the struggling, all they tried to push themselves forward back into the plane for their captain.
It was no use.
"No!" Lynn shouted, slamming her fist into the water as she saw the front of the plane now fully sinking, and it would be a matter of seconds before the rest of it went down too. "Bobby!"
Lynn heard Buck cry out as well, and the two firefighters quietly swam there for a few seconds before they heard a noise. And they both let out loud gasps at the sight. Pulling them from a helicopter swarming above, was Bobby tied off with a secure rope, and intertwined in his hands? The strong woman with the magician son.
"They made it," Lynn breathed out, switching to glance behind her shoulder towards Buck with a wide smile, who shared an equally as happy smile. "They made it!"
