Chapter 60 ~ I Choose...
Episode: Season 9 - I Think I'm Gonna Like It Here Pt. 3Β
It was like I just got punched in the gut. And believe me, I knew what that felt like. But be fore i Had time to even react, the small blue bundle was being shoved into my arms. I was about to object when suddenly the monitors started going crazy, beeping incessantly. My heart lodged in my throat just as nurses flitted around the room.
"I'm sorry, sir, but you're going to have to leave," one of them said, trying to push me and the infant in my arms out the door.
"Why? What's going on? What's wrong?" I demanded.
But after the words left her mouth, I realized I hadn't wanted to hear them after all.
"We're losing her."
Solemnly, I walked down the hall in a daze, the squirming baby still in my arms. I hadn't had the heart to even glance down at the child. Parker was dying. My Parker - the only woman I had ever really loved...was dying. The door to Sam's room squeaked open then as I pushed at it with the toe of my scuffed boot. Ezekiel sat in a chair opposite Sam's unconscious form in the bed, looking worse for wear. But what I noticed first was the incessant blinking monitors.
"What's happening?" I demanded to know.
"This just started," he gestured to the heart rate monitor near the bed, "I'm afraid I'm weaker than I thought. I am sorry, Dean,"
"No. No, no, no. No, we had a deal, okay? I fight. You save,"
"And would that I could. I'm just afraid it's too late - for the both of them,"
"You kidding me?" I asked in disbelief, "Are you saying there's no way to save my brother's life? Or my wife's?"
"No good ways, I'm afraid," he replied, looking away.
"Well, what are the bad ones? We're out of options here, man. Good or bad, let me hear them,"
"I cannot promise, but there is a chance I can fix your brother from the inside. And if you allow me to do this so I can simultaneously heal myself then I will proceed to heal your wife,"
"From the inside. So, what, you gonna open him up?" I asked in confusion before he shook his head in response, "What, possession? You want to possess Sam?"
"I told you,"
"No way,"
"Understood. It's your call,"
"No, it's Sam's call," I said, glancing down at my motionless brother, "There's no way he'd say yes to being possessed by anything. He would rather die,"
Ezekiel waved a hand then and the beeping monitors ceased, filling the air with an eerie silence as he began to walk off. I glanced over at my battered and broken little brother once more and could feel my heart chipping off bit by bit in my chest. Then, for the first time, I risked a glance down at the tiny newborn nestled against my navy green army jacket - my brother's son. The baby was so...so small, helpless even. The tufts of dark brown hair all the way down to his mouth and nose he definitely got from Sam. But as soon as I got a glimpse of the chocolate brown eyes peeking out from tan skin, a genuine smile split my face.Β
There was a hint of the Devil in them - those eyes were all Parker.
"Wait," I said suddenly, glancing up at Ezekiel's receding form before finally, he turned back around to face me, "Do it."
