FIVE
warning ! cursing , death and blood
walking through the carnival, cassius let his eyes roam through every concession stand, the smell of funnel cake and burgers were the only thing filling up his senses. his hands slightly twitched his pockets, a constant reminder that his mind would give him an answer at any given moment. in the corner of his eye, was wednesday wearing a white and black stripped sweater. what bothered him though was tyler galpin. the boy was walking beside wednesday, as if the two were friends.
it annoyed him how tyler had taken up his mind for the past hour. it was a constant flow of indecipherable images.
tyler , wednesday, the woods, rowan...
it was like an old record on repeat.
a groan escaped cassius' lips, a sharp pain hitting the front of his skull, his hands coming up to grip both sides of his head. stumbling into a tree, cassius leaned his weight onto it as another groan escaped his lips. it was happening. his visions were starting.
"cassius" a voice called out. the sound causing cassius to flinch softly. "cassius, get up"
"i'm busy" cassius snapped, not bothering to glance up at the four-eyed boy. cassius knew who had called his name the moment he heard their voice.
"cassius"
"rowan please" cassius huffed out, trying to concentrate as his visions were finally starting to clear up.
rowan and wednesday were arguing. a picture of wednesday surrounded hy flames and a demonic looking man. rowan using his powers to kill wednesday. a monster. slashing. blood. slicing. so much blood. wednesday on the ground. staring at something with wide eyes. a body.
"cassius ! this is serious !" rowan yelled.
"cassius !"
"just shut the fuck up for a second !" cassius threw his arm out instinctively as a way to keep rowan in his place.
who's body was it? ... a red sweater... wednesday crawling over to the body...
"we need to kill wednesday addams !" rowan whisper yelled. pulling cassius out of his visions.
cassius froze. a shaky breath leaving his lips. tears threatening to fall from the stabbing pain his felt in his head. snapping his gaze up at rowan as those words left the boys mouth.
"what?" cassius gulped.
his hands shaking. his heart beating so fast and strong that his whole body shook with each beat.
"i found this, cassius, my mother drew this decades ago !" rowan shoved the picture into cassius view.
the picture from my visions.
cassius shifted his gaze between rowan and the picture. the dots were connecting. rowan was going to kill wednesday addams wether cassius joined him or not. that decision would lead rowan to his own gruesome death.
"rowan, stop" cassius tried.
"we have to kill her before it's too late, before she kills everyone else, you know she will" rowan pointed to cassius, who furrowed his eyebrows
"what the hell are you talking about? how would i know that?"
"oh please, you're always one step ahead of me! you knew about this picture, didn't you? were you planning to kill her yourself ?" rowan chuckled manically.
he's lost his mind. the visions have caused him to go mad.
"rowan, listen to me" cassius started, slowly regaining his composure, standing to his feet. "your visions, they—"
"not again with that crap! don't give me that damned speech, cassius. we've both heard that one too many times"
"why would wednesday try to kill us? she's been trying to leave the moment she stepped through those gates" cassius started. "your vision doesn't add up with the facts, rowan"
"don't" rowan pointed towards cassius who took a weary step forward. "if you won't help me, then i'll do it myself" rowan turned on his heels.
"rowan"
"no!" rowan shouted as he turned back to cassius, shooting his hand out and pinning the youngest vandeleur child to the tree behind him.
cassius groaned in pain as he felt a piece of tree bark stab his side. he would certainly have to ask idalia to clean his wound, if he actually survived the night. that is.
"you don't get it, do you?" rowan chuckled out. "you really think, i'm gonna let you let everyone else die? you're weak"
cassius' head snapped up at rowan's words.
me? cassius vandeleur, was weak? a dry and bitter chuckle escaped cassius' chapped lips. this kid must've lost it.
"rowan, you know..." cassius stared rowan straight in the eye.
his body fought against rowan's hold on him, it wasn't long before his body was completely removed from the tree. his power canceling out rowan's. cassius was levitating off the ground, letting himself land on the ground with a soft thud. he looked into rowan's wide eyes.
"i really hate that word"
cassius uses his telekinesis to hold rowan in place. rowan's body not moving an inch, unless you count the fearful shake. cassius stepped towards rowan, his gaze lowered into a glare.
"you know, i thought you were going crazy when you attacked me at the dorms" cassius sighed out. remembering the event like it was yesterday. he had finally seen what his parents were talking about. psychics really do tend to turn themselves made.
"but you really are obsessed over this picture, to the point of trying to kill someone..."
"you don't understand"
"you're right, i don't" cassius shrugged. "you know why?"
rowan stared up at cassius as the boy stood in front of him, only a few inches apart.
"because i'm not a murderer"
stalking away from the still boy, cassius let out a breath he didn't know he was holding in. not worried about rowan, as his hold on the boy wouldn't be released until cassius was 2 miles away. that gave cassius enough time to find wednesday and warn her about not only rowan but tyler galpin as well. the normie was a part of his visions, cassius didn't know why yet but he swore it had something to do with that greyish looking monster image that flashed only for a quick second.
his eyes moved every which way every second, not noticing the tall blonde not far ahead. bumping into a hard yet soft surface, cassius mumbled an apology and went to side-step whoever he bumped into when he felt a soft grip on his wrist.
"cassius?" cassius closed his eyes at the voice. "what happened?"
"nothing" cassius spoke quickly, not meeting xavier's piercing gaze. trying to keep the boy's thoughts out of his.
"cass, who did this?" xavier's voice deepened as he noticed a small red blotch on cassius green sweater, not to mention the several small cuts on the back of his neck.
"it's nothing xavier, i have something to do—"
"cass"
"xavier" cassius finally looked into those ocean blue irises he had been avoiding for almost a year now.
upset about my appearance. worried about what happened to me. annoyed that he couldn't prevent it.
"don't. you couldn't have done anything" cassius stated. "i'll tell you about it later"
xavier opened his mouth to protest but cassius beat him to it. he was a mind reader after all.
"i promise, we can talk later, okay?"
xavier sighed out; removing his gaze from cassius' as well as removing his grip from cassius' wrist.
"okay" xavier spoke softly, a tone that made cassius make a mental note to talk with xavier, he hadn't realized how avoiding the boy didn't erase any positive emotions they held for each other. it only made them stronger.
nodding, cassius stepped away from xavier, his mind flashing images of the woods. the same woods they were near right now.
"i gotta go"
cassius ran towards the woods. not thinking about where to go, letting his body do the work of a psychic. he heard a growl not far from where he was. sharply turning the the left, cassius slipped on the mud and leaves, catching himself as he almost fell onto a fallen tree branch.
a sharp pain shot through his head once again. this time, the pain was strong and lingering when it was usually quick and bearable. cassius shouted in pain as he fell to his knees, his hands gripping his heads.
a blurry image of a monster. bloodied hands and claws, standing over a body. meeting wednesday's eyes and then running off.
shaking his head, attempting to ease the throbbing, cassius stood to his feet and stumbled down the muddy ground, his breath creating a air of smoke as he took deep breaths.
"no" he huffed out, trying to clear his visions as he let his feet move on their own. "no, no, god no. not now"
cassius was too late. the throbbing pain and numbness of his body let him know he was too late. he could've prevented this event from happened. as he stumbled into the view of wednesday, the girl whipping her head around and noticing cassius swaying figure.
"cassius?"
"rowan" cassius breathed out as he got a clear view of rowan's body. "i'm too late"
was the last thing cassius had said before he fell to the group, his eyes rolling to the back of his head. his body made a soft thudding sound, his head hitting a small rock.
"cassius" wednesday called out as she shakily stepped over to her fellow psychic.
cassius' conscious only set on one thing before he had lost it. he couldn't save rowan, he couldn't protect wednesday, he couldn't catch the monster... he had failed. once again. cassius had failed.
