◇The Medusa◇

Fairies and Specialists together in the same training for the first time. Unlike anything they were used to.

Some looked anxious, others didn't like the idea. Or taking it seriously, or excited to be able to hit and use magic on each other without getting detention.

Unbelievable. They're going to be trained not to die and that's what they think about.

"As many of you may have heard or suspected, Burned Ones are prowling territories near the school" I say loud enough for everyone to hear.

Murmurs and whispers filled the silence of the countryside.
I take a deep breath feeling my irritation increase.

I clasp my hands hearing a mention of Medusa. Gossip and secrets spread among the students faster than fire.

I see Viperine clench her jaw, shooting daggers at Terra with her eyes. That would bring problems.

"Silence!" I shout. Harvey jumped a little in shock. "From today, until second order, Fairies and Specialists will train side by side. You will learn the true techniques of fighting the Burned Ones"

"We separate you into pairs: a fairy and a specialist" explained Saul, looking at me slightly "When we call your names, get together and discuss what you have in common and what your weaknesses are. Side by side, the fairy's mission is to defeat the Burned One while the specialist protects them"

I watch the students pair up as Saul announces them.

"Bloom and Sky. Viperine and Riven" finished "Discuss and deliberate. Nicolai will be here to answer your questions"

We walked away towards the school.

I can't help but notice something between Viperine, Riven, Sky and Bloom.

There was something very wrong there.

"I'll head over to Viperine's dorm. Meet you later."

"Celeste" I feel a hand on my arm "Can we talk for a second?"  He asked

I agree, letting him guide me.

Saul placed one hand on my forehead and the other on my neck.

"You have a fever" He sighed worriedly.

I wasn't well and he noticed.

"I'm fine Saul" I'm not.

"No, you're not. Something's wrong. You should go to the doctor!"

"I'll see later..." I try to dodge but he holds me

"As soon as this is over, I'll take you to a doctor whether you like it or not. You've been like this since yesterday"

"You don't need to worry so much"

"And I'll always worry" he gave me a long peck "Will you go with me to the doctor?"

"Of course" he smiled relieved "not. Get ready"

I take advantage of his surprise and start walking again.

I needed to stop Dawling from using runic limiters again.

The door to Saul's office was opened by Harvey, who was accompanied by Maia, Octavian, and Dorian.

We were all tense for what we were going to do. This was not how I imagined it would be. But like I said to Beatrix, this would be our push. Soon this hell would come to an end.  Which didn't make me very excited. Since soon after, something worse would come.

"I don't like it" I bite my lip hard "This is wrong"

"We need to protect our students" Claimed Dowling

"Beatrix and Viperine are also our students" I retorted
"They've done wrong. But they're still two girls. Two kids who don't know the truth or what really happened."

"You're defending two morders" looked me up and down

"We are too Dawling. At least they never decimated an entire village"

She looked like she was about to jump on my neck, but Saul, Harvey, and my friends approached. Everyone looking from one to the other feeling the tense atmosphere.

"Let's go with it?"  Harvey suggested, shifting his body a little anxiously, "Did you get it?"

I nod moving my hands from behind me showing the tiger snake coiled around my arm.

"This is the snake that strangled me" Silva sighed

"Anakin" I commented "Viperine's snake"

"I thought we were done with them all" grumbled Dawling "For years Luna managed to hide the last living Medusa from the whole world. But how?"

I see Saul swallow hard. I knew his history with Viperive. He cared about her. And he was as hesitant as I was about hurting her.

"It makes no difference" I ignored the question asked "Shall we go with it?"

Dawling looked me up and down again. She was silently judging me. I knew that in part she trusted me. But there was something that bothered her about me.

Harvey stretched out his hands, making as if to hold Anakin.  His sudden, jerky movement stirred the reptile.
He bared his fangs ready to pounce.

I move out of Harvey's reach. Anakin was used to me, so he wouldn't hurt me. I can no longer say the same about the others.

"Don't push it too hard, or I'll let him squeeze your neck" I lift a finger silencing Saul "Medusas are spiteful. Viperine already has a problem with your daughter. Seeing you hurt Anakin will piss her off even more. So watch out."

With the snake in hand, Harvey wasted no time in smearing an oily liquid onto his skin. Anakin squirmed, opening his mouth without making a sound.

"This potion will slow the connection between the two of them for a few minutes" He explained "We have to run. If we get there and Viperine is squirming...."

"She's the Medusa" Saul completed

I reach into my coat pocket, squeezing the small syringe.  I wouldn't let them do to Viperive what they did to Beatrix.

Viperine's high-pitched, excruciating scream reverberated through the air.  She dropped to her knees, writhing as she clutched her body in anger.

Red and purple spots forming under her skin.

Riven and Sky beside her not knowing what to do or how to help.

Riven decided to get closer to help his girlfriend, trying to ignore the one he called a friend but stab him in the back.

He bent down, but was stopped by the director's voice.

"Don't touch her, Riven" she ordered, approaching quickly being followed by other teachers "Unless you want to be petrified"

"Riven" muttered Viperine, tears of pain streaming from her eyes "Help me Sky! Please"

None of them can do anything. Silva and Harvey lifted her hard while she couldn't breathe without feeling pain.

The other students approaching, curious to know what would happen.

"Viperine Gorgon, you're being arrested for the petrification murders in Alfea" Dawling decreed

"I told you she was Medusa!" yelled Terra, happy and satisfied to be right "I told you! I knew it!"

"Bloody cow!" Viperine mustered up the strength to scream too "Shit bitch!"

Dawling moved to place the rune limiters, just as she had with Beatrix. But she couldn't. Without anyone being able to stop it, Verena quickly appeared from behind and held Viperive's neck, ingesting a pinkish liquid.

It looked like it was painful, but Viperine was out instantly.

"Bracelets won't be necessary, Farah Dawling" She stated, practically spitting out the director's name "From now on, I'll take care of Viperine"

Silva carried the girl in his arms looking at her worriedly.

"She's sleeping. And she's not feeling anything anymore" Verena assured pulling the hair that covered Viperine's sleeping face.

The students cleared the way allowing the Specialist Headmaster to pass.

"The rest of you, get back to training. Now!"  Verena ordered

All running, not wanting to test the woman's mood, which was clearly not the best.

"Except Sky, Riven and Terra" she crossed her arms "You three in Silva's office!"
