"What can go wrong?"
Summary
How each of the four main and lead characters ended up in squid game season two.
The sunlight shined on my face, causing me to flinch and wake up from my slumber. I slowly opened my eyes, my eyesight blurry. On the edge of my bed, laid the card the man gave me yesterday. I blinked twice and reached down to pick it up.
"Should I join?" I asked myself, eyeing the brown piece of paper. "45.6 billion won, if I win I'm covered for life." I thought, still eyeing the paper. A smile spread across my face as I began to daydream what my life could be like.
Lost in my thoughts, I got out of my bed and began imagining I was driving a Mercedes.
"Skrrt Skrrt, Watch out I'm coming through!"
I started to laugh, while still driving my imaginary car.
Splat.
I turned to see one of my books lying on the floor. "Oh jeez, let's stop for a while." I giggled to myself and reached down to pick it up. Tales of a Cat, by Nu Janie. "My favorite author." I walked over to my bookshelf and propped it back onto it.
"I'm gonna join those games." I stated.
I rushed into my apartment, slamming the door behind me. Breathing heavily, I set my backpack on the counter. "This can't be happening." I said distressed. I went and plopped myself on the couch, unlocking my phone and going to twitter.
I sat there dumbfounded, I could no longer go outside without someone recognizing me. I never thought people would find out I lied. Turning my phone off, I set it to the side and just sat there, entering deeper into my thoughts.
"Myungi is a scammer!"
"He deserves to die!"
"Why would you lie to us, we trusted you!"
"I can't believe this."
"Wow, I trusted him with all my money."
I screamed and reached for my remote and thrown it. I was enraged.
"These people are just fucking idiots, all of them!" I yelled. "It's not my fault that they listened to me."
My hands are shaking, my eyes twitching with every blink. My legs ready to stomp whoever made those insane and vulgar comments about me. I walked towards the kitchen, to grab a drink to calm me down.
"Please, have some alcohol Myungi, hopefully you didn't drink it all." I said in third person. I opened the fridge door to see absolutely zero alcoholic beverages.
"Fuck." I scoffed as I slammed the door shut, causing the fridge to move sideways.
"Why does this have to happen to me!" I cried out, begging for someone to let me know. Suddenly, I remembered my professor, and our conversation.
"I could get you expelled, watch your mouth."
"I could get you expelled."
"get you expelled."
"expelled."
Expelled.
"Oh that motherfucker—" I said growling in between. "I'm gonna fucking kill him." I screamed.
A knocked suddenly was heard at my door, interrupting my menacing thoughts.
"Who the fuck is it?" I yelled loud enough for the person to hear. Instead of replying, they simply knocked again, annoying me further.
Rolling my eyes, I walked out towards the door and forcefully pulled it open revealing a man in a black suit.
"Hello, I am a recruiter from Squid Games Inc. We have chosen you and four hundred forty-five others to join our game to possibly win—" He stopped to catch his breath. "45.6 billion won." I stared at him, taking in everything he said.
"And this free money right?" I asked. He simply nodded and handed me a card. "Call the number on the back to secure your spot." The guy said letting me know, as he turned to walk away.
"Count me in." I stated smiling as I closed my front door.
"Today class we are talking about WWI and how Korea played a part in it." My history teacher announced, gaining everyone's attention, except mine.
I already knew the in's and outs about the war from the army. I simply stared at clock, waiting for the final bell to ring.
"Kim Juri." A voice from behind called out to me. Sighing, I turned around to see one of my classmates.
"Is it true that trans women—, give better head?" He asked jokingly. I simply stared at him showing no expression, making him stop laughing.
"Sheesh don't take it so seriously, it was just a joke." He shrugged while saying it, causing fury to build in my body. "Your insensitive comment was not 'just a joke'" I said mocking him. "It was blatant disrespect." Rolling my eyes I turned around to face the teacher again.
"Is everything okay back there?" She asked staring at me. I nodded and she continued to teach again.
"Hey Juri." The same voice stated, trying to get my attention. This time, I didn't turn around to face them. I felt someone breathing near my right ear, "I just know, that hole is tight." He whispered. Suddenly but swiftly, I turned around and punched the boy in his face, causing everyone in the class to stop and look at us.
"Juri, why would you punch him?" My teacher asked, shocked. I turned around and faced her a stern expression displayed on my face. "You know exactly why, don't act oblivious." I told her, a hint of aggravation in my voice. "These boys—" I turn around to point at them. "Have been harassing me for years, ever since I was 17 in high school." I expressed. "And I got tired of the constant harassment, which I told you about Miss." Still pointing at the boys, I noticed the one I punched slowly get up from his chair. "And yet, you did absolutely nothing about it." I voiced, watching the boys every move.
He stands up and walks towards the teacher, blood dripping from his hand. I noticed, the hand the blood was dripping from held his nose. "I must've broken your nose, did I?" I asked him in a mocking tone. He glares at me. I simply laugh.
"Well, it seems you handled it yourself Juri." The teacher stated, shaking her head as she started helping my tormentor.
I began to pack my stuff up when I noticed a cardboard like piece of paper on the ground. It had a square, triangle, and circle displayed on it.
"Someone must've left this." I muttered to myself, reaching down and grabbing it.
The card read Squid Game Inc. Join for a chance to win 45.6 billion won.
"45.6 Billion won? That can pay for my surgery." I whispered to myself, making sure nobody heard of this amazing deal. I quickly stuffed the paper in my bag.
"Juri, where are you going?" My teacher asked me. I looked up and stared at her confused.
"To the office, I committed assault." I blatantly told her.
"Why? What you did was justified." She stated, staring at me with puzzled eyes.
"He didn't touch me, I touched him first." I told her, putting my bag on my right shoulder.
"Well, go ahead, I wasn't gonna write you up for this anyways." She told me, shrugging as she helped my classmate with his nosebleed I gave him.
"45.6 Billion won, for free?" My friend said in a mocking tone. "There's no way that's real." I nodded as I added, "You might be right."
I began eating my sandwich, full of protein of course, while discussing this Squid Game card with my friend. Although, we both didn't believe it, if it was true that cash will set us for life.
"I might actually call the number tonight." I told him. He stopped chewing on his sandwich to look at me. "You have to be joking, you really believe this?" He gestured towards the card. "Plus, didn't a random guy give this to you?" He added, making me remember how I got it.
"Excuse me sir, would you like to play a game?" A low voice called out. I kept walking ignoring whoever it was. After-all, it was eight pm at night, alcoholics roamed the streets.
"Sir please play this game with me." The same voice called out. I stopped walking and turned around and seen a man in a suit. I have to admit, he looked hot.
"Are you asking me?" I asked the man and he nodded pulling two small envelopes out of his suit pocket.
"Of course, you know Ddakji right?" He asked me and I nodded. Who doesn't know Ddakji?
"Alright, choose your color." He stated. I choose red as I always won this game with my lucky red envelope.
He set the blue one down and explained how he played it.
"The rules are simple, if you flip my envelope over you win 100,000 immediately." He pulled out a load of cash from his other suit pocket. "But, If I win, I get to slap you." He sternly stated. I nodded and agreed to his rules, confident in my ddakji skills.
The first throw I did completely missed the envelope, receiving a chuckle from the guy.
The second throw hit it, but did not have enough force to flip it over.
The third throw made it fly in the air, but it stayed on the same side.
"Sheesh, this is hard than I thought." I told him, placing my envelope on the ground.
His first try, he made it flip to the other side. I stood there amazed.
"Wow, your really good—"
Smack
He slapped me so hard, his handprint was left on my face. My body immediately jerked back, out of shock. I wasn't expecting it.
"Damn dude, at-least give me a warning." I stated irritated.
He just shrugged and we continued to play the game.
Fifty-five slaps later, I finally flipped the envelope over.
"Finally!" I screamed, fist pumping the air.
"Congratulations, here's your prize money." The guy handed me the cash and a card.
"If you want more than that, just called this number." He stated as he walked away, happily.
"Damn dude, fifty-five slaps?" My friend asked joyfully. I side eyed him. "Yes, the game was harder than it seemed!" I expressed, rubbing my sore right cheek.
"I mean, you have to call the number now, all those slaps for 100,000 won? What a scam." My friend stated, encouraging me to call the number.
"I'll call it when I get home."
