Skyler's Past - Part 2

"Spider-Man, o Spider-Man, does whatever a spider can," I sang whilst making some sketches.

"Could you stop singing that?" Peter grumbled and I snorted. "Nope," making a popping sound by the 'p'.

"You're the worst best friend."

I stuck my index finger in the air, still sketching with my other hand. "Ah, but you just admitted I am your best friend."

"For now," he joked and with a last stroke I finished my sketch. I put down the pencil and held the piece of paper in the air, inspecting it. I turned around in the office chair, facing Peter who was sitting on his bed, reading a comic.

"What do you think?" I asked him and he looked up from the comic he was reading.

He frowned. "What is it?"

I was deeply offended. "It's that weapon I was talking about!"

"You're still serious about that?"

"Of course I am, I want to help you." I couldn't believe he thought I wasn't serious. I mean yes, I like to pull pranks a lot and I can be quite immature but this was something completely different. I wanted to help Spider-Man and help him in his fight against criminals.

"But you're not exactly superhero-like," Peter commented and I rolled my eyes.

"That's what the weapon is for, Spidey."

He hushed me to be quiet. "Not that loud! Aunt May could hear you."

Only I knew Peter was in fact Spider-Man - well, me and MJ; his girlfriend-, because lets be honest, it's very hard to keep things secret from your best friend. I had noticed he was starting to act strange about a year ago. Suddenly he didn't wore his glasses anymore, he said he used contacts now but I knew he never would think about that since his eyes were that bad to even consider contacts. So that was the first thing that made me trigger putting some questions by him. Second were his suddenly very fast reflexes, he could catch anything even if he wasn't actually looking. And then Spider-Man started to show up after his uncle Ben's death. It was not really that hard to connect it all. Ben had always stood for what was right and just, and suddenly this Spider-Man stood for everything Ben had been. When I had concluded that, Peter hadn't been surprised, he knew I would eventually find out.

"So, what does this weapon do?" he asked when he had made sure aunt May hadn't heard us.

I turned the chair back to the desk and put the drawing on top of it. I pointed at the gloves I had drawn, which were going to be most important equipment for the suit - which I still had to design... But with the device in the gloves I was going to be able to create the soundwaves. I started to explain everything when Peter was standing behind me, peeking over my shoulder.

I was quite sure I could actually make this weapon work, but even with my skills and mind it still took me some attempts to make it work.

It was a dreary afternoon and I was determined yesterday had been the last failed test. Today it would work, it had to. I crossed my fingers - figuratively speaking then because I needed them now - and activated the device. It started to make a charging noise and suddenly I layed with the chair on the ground. The blast had knocked the lamp off the desk and the force of that had thrown me back with chair and all. I grinned while I was staring at the ceiling, my legs pointing in the air. I was sure I kind of looked ridiculous now but it had worked, finally! And this had only been a small blast, when I would adjust the strength, the damage it could do would be catastrophic! Spider-Man had no longer to do everything alone. Speaking of Peter... I probably needed him to test the weapon somewhere safe because I hadn't had a driver license yet but Peter was two years older than me. I figured I couldn't exactly test it in the backyard of the orphanage, I had to test its full power somewhere out of the city.

I scrawled back on my feet and layed the device back on the desk, carefully so that it wouldn't be reactivated again. I grabbed my phone and texted my best friend, saying it finally worked and with just some little adjustments we could test it tomorrow somewhere out of the city. Luckily it was saturday tomorrow and then we would have all the time of the world.

Peter replied he was very curious about it and we decided to drive tomorrow to an abandoned warehouse outside New York City. Hopefully they wouldn't be needing Spider-Man tomorrow because there was no way we could stayed informed about the happenings in the city when we weren't there. But ah well, every superhero can have one day off, right?

Right?!

I thought wrong.

We had been practising all day but when we returned to the city, we couldn't cross the border city easily. There was an huge traffic jam. Why? Apparently there had been some kind of alien attack and now a part of Manhattan was destroyed. Only after we had identified ourselves, we were allowed to go further. Concerned we drove back home - well, Peter's home - and once inside we turned on the television.

The scene we saw almost looked as if it was coming out of some kind of science-fiction movie. Aliens appeared out of a hole in the sky, above Stark Tower, while six superheroes tried to stop them. Five men and one woman. They called themselves the Avengers, and luckily they did manage to stop the attack.

I pointed at the team of superheroes. "Perhaps we should join them, Peter. Help them defend the Earth."

He glanced at me. "I'm not sure if they allow youngsters in their team."

I shrugged. "We can try, right?"

"I don't know, Sky."

"Well, see for yourself. I'm going to try to get in their team," I said and Peter chuckled.

"You're so stubborn. I'll do just fine by myself."

"You can accomplish more in a team, Spidey."

"Let me know how it goes..."

I rolled my eyes, he said I'm the stubborn one but I'm quite sure he was even more stubborn. Eventually he would agree with me, you'll see. I said goodbye to Peter and returned to the orphanage, trying to think of a plan to become an Avenger. I had to admit, I liked the sound of that word and I would do anything to call myself an Avenger. Yes, I would love that.

A/N: And again, that took me longer than expected. I just was not sure how to write it, I had the idea in my mind but somehow I couldn't get it on paper. And now that I have written it, it's not really as I had imagined... Still, I hope you liked it?

And updates probably won't come fast, the classes of the university are killing me already, ugh. But luckily I passed the second semester with flying colours! Two down, two to go! Wish me luck... I need it :P

Next chapter shall be Kathy's past! (I don't know yet if I should do another Elizabeth-chapter? I won't be writing any Katherine's or Iris' since they have their own books) And after that another teaser of the present! Mwhahaha!

And yes, the picture... I know I don't really use pictures in my story but I though this one was funny xD (Please tell me you can see it... Otherwise I'm making a fool of myself here)
