002 — GAS STATION

Once the group had dropped off Kira and Malia. Stiles, Lydia and Scott made their way into the vet clinic followed by Laura who had been told to come with them as they wanted her to meet with Deaton.

As they got inside Deaton cleared his table gently laying Derek down on it. Once they had him laid down Deaton took some time to fully look at him and he was shocked to see the boy that used to come and visit him with Talia.

"Wow" Deaton said as he continued to examine the boy not quite believing what he saw.

"Wow? Wow as in I've seen this before and I know what to do kind of wow. Cause that's the kind of wow we're hoping for"

"I think you might be overestimating my abilities" Deaton told Stiles as he had never seen anything like this before so he had no idea how to reverse it.

Lydia took a hold of one of Derek's hands. "He's cold" She told them "Really cold" She looked up at Deaton worried who in turn took his other hand before placing it back down on the table.

"You think this is permanent?" Scott asked his boss.

Laura who was stood on one side of the table furrowed her eyebrows as she tried to make sense of what they were all talking about, she didn't understand why they were so worried or what had happened to the boy lying on the table.

Deaton took his flashlight from his pocket and flashed it into one of Derek's eyes "I'm not sure a medical diagnosis is even adequate...this is well beyond my experience" He told the three teenagers and Laura who looked up at him expectantly.

"So what do we do?" Stiles asked him, wondering what's going to happen to Derek.

"Till he wakes up, probably not much" Deaton answered "Might Be best to leave him with me, he'll be safe here" He assured them.

"You mean from Kate" Stiles stated.

"If she's alive and she's what you say she is, she won't be able to walk past that gate." He assured them.

Laura took a part of the blanket that had fallen off of Derek and placed it back over him, taking one of his hands and stroking it knowing that he probably wouldn't feel it, but it made her feel better.

"Why would she want to do this to him?" Lydia questioned.

"Knowing Kate, it's probably for a reason that won't be good for anybody but her" Deaton told them softly knowing that the group cared deeply for the man.

"And bad for everyone else" Stiles said solemnly. He rolled out his neck trying to loosen the tension that had begun to form due to all the recent events.

"You know you guys should probably go home" Deaton told them as he could tell how tired they were and knew that they had to be back at school the following day. "He doesnt look to be in any danger. So maybe the rest of you should get some sleep... it is a school night and you all need to start taking care of your own lives again" He told them.

Scott looked up at Deaton "Someone should stay with you and we also came here to talk to you about her" Scott motioned to Laura who lifted her head up knowing that he meant her. "The Calaveras had her, we found her in the jeep she must of escaped from them. But she doesn't seem to want to talk to anyone" Scott informed Deaton who looked down at Laura interested to know who she was.

"Her wound also healed, so we know that she's not completely human. She could be a werewolf like Scott?" Lydia suggested.

"I'll keep the girl here with me and do some observations the rest of you...go home, you need to rest" Deaton told them sternly.

"I'll stay" Lydia said causing the two boys to look at her "My grades are fine, despite missing a few classes" Lydia shrugged

"I'm so not okay with this" Stiles shook his head causing Laura to smile at the boy who refused to leave her.

Lydia turned her head towards Stiles in annoyance "Guys, go" She told them.

"Nooo" Stiles answered

"Text is if anything happens" Scott told her but Stiles was still adamant on staying with Lydia though.

"Nope, still not okay with it. Not going anywhere" He refused to move but Scott dragged him along forcing him to leave.

"Alright, just cause you're stronger" He whined.

Deaton turned to Laura as soon as the boys had left and motioned for her to sit on a stool he had placed in the room.

She hesitated at first but complied once she looked up to Lydia who nodded her head assuring her it was safe.

"My name's Doctor Alan Deaton and I am a special kind of veterinarian. You were being held by the Calaveras correct?" He asked the girl who just looked up at him blankly not giving him a reply. He could tell that she wasn't comfortable talking to them so he didn't push her.

"My guess is that you're not your average kid, you're different yes?" Laura didn't reply she just continued to stare at the floor following the pattern with her eyes.

"Would you mind showing me? You don't have to if it makes you uncomfortable. I promise nothing bad will happen to you" Laura didn't move, she didn't know whether this man could be trusted or not for all she knew he could be one of them and as soon as he found out what she was he could get her taken away.

"Okay, I understand you don't trust me and that you're scared and I don't blame you. We can try again tomorrow I might know someone who can help, maybe try and get some rest hmm" He told her leading her over to the chairs. She sat down next to Lydia who gave her a smile before turning back to Derek watching him worried about what might happen to him and whether or not he would change back.

Laura grabbed one of her comics from her bag and began to read it peaking Deaton's interest. He didn't say anything to the girl just observed her as she read the comic trying to connect the dots.

Once Laura was certain that the two had fallen asleep she shook the blanket from her shoulders and shoved her comic in her bag zipping it up.

She turned to the boy on the table and hesitated before proceeding to exit the building. She began to wonder aimlessly through the town until she stopped at a 24 hour gas station.

Laura stepped inside and saw that the guy at the counter barely noticed her so she started to look around she picked up some sunglasses trying them on and then continued to where the food was kept and picked up a tube of pringles and an energy drink and opened them both consuming them the man looked up when he heard crunching and looked down at the girl frowning.

"You know you're going to have to pay for those right?" He asked her in a dull tone.

Laura just gave him a blank look, blinking back at him.

"Do you have any money?" He asked her cocking his head at her silence.

But she pretended that she didn't know what he was talking about and shook her head.

"Money, mon-neyy!" He slowly pronounced, you can't just eat this stuff without paying...HEY!" He yelled as Laura started to walk out the door "Hey you can't take that, you didn't pay for it, I'm calling the cops" He yelled at her but she ignored him and continued to walk down the street.

Before long she heard sirens and soon enough a police car stopped in front of her along with a truck, the same guy from the gas station.

"That's her, that's the thief" The man pointed at her. The sheriff walked up to Laura slowly holding his hands out as a sign of peace.

"Miss, I'm going to have to take you down to the station for some questioning and I'm also going to have to ring a parent or guardian to come and collect you" He told her calmly. He took another step forward but she saw this as a threat and took off in a sprint.

"God damn" He muttered under his breath before Jordan his new deputy got out of the car and chased her down having to cuff her so that she would stop running. Laura contemplated using her claws but knew that it wouldn't help in the situation so she let the man cuff her and willing followed him back to the cruiser.

"I'm sorry, but it's protocol" He gave her a weak smile.

When they got to the station the Sheriff walked into his office asking Parrish to do a background check on the girl who was now sat handcuffed to the bench, curiosity of Haigh.

Laura glared at the Deputy called Haigh who just smirked at her before continuing with his paperwork.

Jordan found a file on the girl which didn't hold much but before he could show the Sheriff, himself and Haigh were called out for a trespassing.

A short while later the boy who Laura recognised from Mexico was escorted into the station by the deputy's and Haigh sat him next to Laura also cuffing him to the bench.

The boy turned to her recognizing her from the day before.

"Thanks" He said out of the blue. She tilted her head not understanding why he was thanking her.

"For helping me in Mexico, well your friends" Laura furrowed her eyebrows those people weren't her friends she barely knew them but she didn't bother correcting him she just shrugged her shoulders and continued to look down at her hands.

The nice deputy from before came over to the two and crouched down in front of them.

"The other deputy thinks I'm an idiot for even asking, but I have a feeling if I take these cuffs off you're gonna be okay? And I think you'll help us figure what happened to your families so we can get you guys out of here" He spoke softly not wanting them to feel uncomfortable or attacked. "Am I Right?"

Derek and Laura glance at each other before looking back at the Deputy nodding. He then takes off their cuffs smiling at them.

"The other Deputy is the idiot" Derek speaks up as Laura listens to their conversation.

"Can't argue with that" Jordan chuckles.

The two were interrupted by the other deputy "Parrish! Get over here" Parrish walked over to the other deputy having a conversations before the Sheriff joined them.

Derek turned to Laura examining her before asking.

"So what are you? Are you a werewolf?" Laura turned to him shaking her head for some reason she felt like she could trust him more than the Doctor, that might of been because he was more her age and so less of a threat or maybe because she knew he was like her...different.

"No" She replied and that was the first time that she had spoken since she arrived from Mexico. Her father had taught her more English so she could understand what everyone was saying and could speak it although not as well she was still able to string some sentences together but her accent was still thick.

"You speak Spanish?" Derek asked her.

"Si" She nodded.

Derek was about to ask her something but he caught eyes with the Sheriff who was looking at him funny almost like he knew him and was trying to figure out where he came from. The sheriff walked closer to them and bent down in front of Derek looking at him closely before two boys stormed into the station grabbing his attention.
