Cold greetings and meetings

The Underworld was something that Evangeline always found peaceful even if it was where people's souls would end up when they died but this time it was more or less chaotic. Let's see when she comes back home she got into an argument with Hades then she stayed in her room for two whole days.

Then on her birthday Hades came by her room and wished her a very cold and bland happy birthday he had gotten her something but he wasn't telling her what it was so it meant one thing A: He was going to kill her, or B: he was going to kill her. But to her surprise, he did neither of those options.

"What's going on?" The brunette asked following after her father.

The god didn't respond instead he kept walking to the balcony.

"You're going to kill me aren't you?"

"Evangeline, I am not going to kill you." Hades sighed as he closed his eyes.

"Yeah, right," she scoffed earning a glare from her father. They finally reached the balcony where Hades ordered two dead soldiers to get the 'thing'.

"Is it poison?" Evangeline asked looking to where the skeletons left.

"Evangeline," He warned. The soldiers came back with a large crate.

"Open it," He said as the soldiers left. "Go on."

She hesitantly opened it and was scared to death when a Doberman head popped out. "A hellhound?" Her eyes wide as she took in the dog in front of her.

"Yes, for your anxiety, that is what Persephone told me you have."

"You got me a therapy dog?" She patted his head.

Hades didn't say anything instead he just watched the interaction between the two. "There now you can get over the whole situation."

She shot him a look as she kneeled in front of the dog to take in its appearance. The dog licked her hand. "Sam," she whispered.

"You're naming the hellhound Sam?" Hades arched a brow.

"Yeah," she shrugged.

Hades let out an annoyed sigh. "Of course you are." He grumbled.

"Thanks," She got up turning to him, looking him in the eyes she hadn't done that since she had come back. "For the dog, not for the lying."

"When will you understand I did it to protect the three of you." He spoke sternly. "I did what I had to, to keep you safe." He walked out leaving the girl and the hellhound out on the balcony.

The hellhound looked up at Evangeline. "Come on, Sam," she spoke softly walking out and motioning for the dog to follow along as well.

Till summer the dog was with her 24/7 looking for Nico, she hadn't given up on him she wasn't going to. She was going to find Nico di Angelo and bring him home. Sam comforted her during some panic attacks she had over the months, she was silently thankful for Hades getting her the dog. But she was still mad at him. She hadn't spoken to Percy a lot since iris messaging from the Underworld was complicated and she kept forgetting because she got so caught up in finding Nico.

Summer had finally arrived which meant she could go back to camp, she was painting Sam on a stool completely aware of her father watching her from her door frame.

"You know you can't keep standing there, keeping an eye on me." She turned her head towards her father she wasn't in her usual clothes she was in a dark green spaghetti top with dark blue jeans and a black denim jacket, the white streak in her hair braided.

"Why are dressed like that?" He asked stepping inside the room.

"Going back to camp." she shrugged, she hadn't told him about the thing with Percy since she knew he would threaten to obliterate Percy.

'Mhm' Was all he said as he observed his daughter. "I know that, but where are you actually going?" he asked.

She shook her head trying to think of a way to come up with something to tell him. "New York," she muttered.

Hades arched a brow. "And why are you going to New York?"

"Can't I see the world?" she lightly chuckled.

"Evangeline," he mumbled, staring her down.

She cleared her throat and swallowed. "Percy asked to hang out with me, today."

His nostrils flared and he clenched his fist. "Jackson?" he asked.

She slowly nodded. "Why does he wish to spend time with you?"

"I don't know, can't friends catch up."

"You will see him at camp, I do not see a reason for you to meet him early when you will see him there."

Evangeline scratched the back of her head. "Um, that's-"

"Evangeline," he spoke. "What's going on?"

"Percy kind of asked me... to look around New York with him," she said the last part silently but he heard.

"What?" He raised his eyebrows.

"Percy asked me to roam around New York with him." she played with her necklace looking at the ground.

But Hades didn't get mad he just watched his daughter with his eyes slightly wide. But his expression did something she had never expected to happen, it softened. "Oh," he mumbled.

Silence fell over the two as the hellhound tilted its head watching the father and daughter. Evangeline finally managed to look up at her father, she let go of her necklace and sat up straight. "Dad?" she asked softly.

He turned his attention back to her from the picture of her and her mother on the dresser, he took a deep breath. "Well," he said. "Have fun then."

Evangeline felt her jaw drop, did he really just tell her to have fun with the boy he hates? "Okay," she got out of her shock. "I'll see you after the summer." she got off the of the stool she was sitting on and watched him up and down, this had to be a trick was he going to send a fury to murder Percy?

He looked at his daughter taking in her appearance, he curled his lip. "I am not going to kill the boy Evangeline."

"That's not what I was thinking." she shook her head.

"I'm your father, you should learn how to lie to me better." he pointed to her twisting her ring back and forth.

The brunette immediately stopped spinning the ring. "I should get going." she turned to the hellhound on the other stool still posing, he came down and walked up to her feet she leaned down and petted it. "I'll see you when I come back, okay? I promise." She promised.

The dog left her room, she stood there for a moment before she grabbed the rock Nico had given her from the dresser and put it in the pocket of her jacket as she left the room. "Goodbye, Father!" she shouted from down the corridor.

Hades heard the shout from down the corridor and yelled back. "I'll destroy him if he tries anything!"

He looked at the painting she had been making and walked out of the room locking the door.

Percy burst out of the alley onto East 81st and ran straight into Evangeline.

"Slow down, waterboy." Evangeline said as they steadied each other so they didn't go flying into the street.

"Hey," he said, breathlessly.

"What happened?" she asked.

Before he could answer, a girl, was still covered in monster dust. She had curly red hair, freckles sprinkled across her face, soft features, and emerald green eyes: Rachel Elizabeth Dare. The girl from the Hover Dam. She came charging out of the alley, yelling. "Percy, wait up!"

"What happened?" Evangeline pressed.

"Right, Evangeline this is Rachel... Rachel this is Evangeline."

"Hey," Rachel said quickly. She looked at Percy. "You are in so much trouble. And you still owe me an explanation!"

Evangeline heard the sound of police sirens getting closer. "We need to go. Before you become a criminal again."

"I want to know more about half-bloods," Rachel insisted. "And monsters. And this stuff about gods." She grabbed Percy's arm, took out a permanent marker, and wrote a line of nine numbers on his hand. "You're going to call me and explain, okay? You owe that. Now, get going."

"But-" Percy tried to protest.

"I'll make up some story," the redhead said. "I'll tell them it wasn't your fault. Just go!"

Evangeline watched the girl run back towards the school. She sighed and turned around, walking away.

Percy followed behind, hot on her heels. "I didn't really tell her, well kind of..."

"You don't owe me an explanation," Evangeline dismissed.

"She's the girl I almost chopped last winter at the Hoover Dam," He tried to explain. "I barely even know her."

"She's cute, but redheads aren't really my type." The brunette shrugged.

"I never thought about that."

Evangeline kept walking toward York Avenue.

"I'll deal with the school later," He promised. "Honest, it'll be fine."

"I really don't care," she grumbled. "We just need to get going, before the police really start looking for you."

"You're right," Percy said. "We have to get to camp. Now."

Percy tried to talk to Evangeline, but she barely even looked at him. All Percy managed to get out of her was that she still didn't know where her brother was and some stuff about Annabeth having a monster-infested spring. He did notice the hint of malice in her voice when talking about Nico.

"Any word on Luke?" Percy asked.

The brunette shook her head. She still held a grudge against the boy she used to consider a friend apparently children of Hades tend to hold grudges. She began hating Luke after the fight on Mount Tamalpais, but Annabeth was still hung up on him. Evangeline tried her best to help Annabeth move on but the blonde couldn't move on from the Castellan boy.

" Annabeth told me that Mount Tam is still overrun with monsters the last time she was in San Francisco. But she didn't go near it. She doesn't think Luke's up there anymore, either."

"What about Grover?"

"He's at Camp," Evangeline said. "We'll see him when we get back."

"Did he have any luck? I mean, with the search for Pan?"

Evangeline twisted her ring. "You'll see,"

They didn't talk much after that. The city melted away until they were off the expressway and rolling through the countryside of northern Long Island, past orchards, wineries, and fresh produce stands.

Evangeline didn't understand the burning feeling in her throat as she glanced at the raven-haired boy eyeing the redhead's phone number that was written on his hand.

The driver pulled over on Farm Road 3.141, at the base of Half-Blood Hill.

The driver frowned at her. "There ain't nothing here, miss, You sure you want out?"

"Yes," she said, pulling out a roll of cash she had. The driver decided not to argue at the sight of all the cash.

The children of the Big Three hiked to the crest of the hill. The young guardian dragon was dozing, coiled around the pine tree, but he lifted his coppery head as the two approached, and let Evangeline scratch under his chin. Steam hissed out of his nostrils like a teakettle, and he went cross-eyed with pleasure.

Below them, Camp Half-Blood looked peaceful, with green fields and forests, and shiny white Greek buildings. The Big house sat proudly in the midst of the strawberry fields. To the north, past the beach, the Long Island Sound glittered in the sunlight.

They walked down and into the valley, finding the summer session was in full swing. The satyrs were playing reed pipes down in the strawberry fields, making the plants grow with woodland magic. Campers were having flying horseback lessons, swooping over the woods on their pegasi. Smoke rose from the forges, and hammers rang as kids made their own weapons for Arts and crafts. The Athena and Demeter teams were having a chariot race around a dirt track, and over at Canoe Lake, some kids in a Greek trireme were fighting a large orange sea serpent.

Percy lightly grabbed Evangeline's arm stopping her and turning her around. "How was your dad's?"

Evangeline tensed. "It was fine," she looked around.

"What happened when you got back?"

"The usual we fought he screamed, I stayed in my room for a while then it was my birthday-"

"Wait, it was your birthday?" Percy interrupted. "When?"

"November 4th." she shrugged.

"Evangeline," Percy's eyes widened. "What did you do for it?"

"Nothing, then dad got me a hellhound for an apology and said that 'it would help with my anxiety' " She air quoted.

"A hellhound?" Percy blinked. "He got you a hellhound for your birthday?"

The brunette nodded. "He's pretty cute."

"What'd you name it?"

"Sam."

"You named a hellhound Sam?"

She rolled her eyes. "Says the guy who named the Ophiotaurus Bessie."

Percy flushed. "Yeah, okay, got me there."

The two started to walk towards the cabins, when Evangeline saw a familiar boy, in the distance with the new kids. Landon saw Evangeline and had the biggest smile plastered on his face as he waved to her.

"Right..." Evangeline slowed down as they got closer to the twelve cabins. "I have to go and... work on something I guess."

Percy frowned. "Work on something?"

"Yeah, I'll see you later or something," she answered, walking away from the son of Poseidon to greet the son of Hermes who hugged her the moment she came in range.

"Yeah..." he muttered. "Great talking with you, too, Evangeline."
