I looked up and saw Ruhaan standing there with a gun in his hands.
Did he shoot this bastard?
Ruhaan's gaze shifted towards me. Our eyes met, and tears welled up in mine as I looked at him. His eyes, too, were filled with tears, and he bit his lower lip, trying to hold back his emotions.
"Ruh..." I whispered softly, my voice trembling.
I missed him, I terribly missed him. I wanted to hug him right now, to hide in his embrace. My body was aching in pain, and I needed him near me. I wanted to ease my pain by staying in his arms, to rest my head on his chest. I longed for his kisses on my face, hoping they would make me forget all my pain.
Ruhaan slowly stepped towards me, his eyes flickering to Advik, who lay unconscious in front of me. His face was not visible and blood dripping from his back. Without a word, he pulled me into his embrace, and I broke down, crying uncontrollably in his arms.
"Are you okay, sweetheart?" he asked softly, his voice a soothing balm to my wounded soul.
I shook my head, tears streaming down my cheeks. He gently wiped them away, his touch tender and filled with love.
"I am so sorry, Sohana. I am late," he apologized, his voice choked with guilt and regret. I buried my face in his chest, seeking comfort and warmth. I snuggled closer to him, his arms wrapping around me protectively as he caressed my head. My sobs continued, my body trembling with the force of my emotions.
"Shh, everything is fine. I am here with you. I'll always be with you. You are safe, my baby," he whispered, his words soothing my frayed nerves. His hands moved in slow, comforting strokes along my back.
I lifted my face from his chest and looked up at him, my eyes searching his for reassurance. His gaze was steady, filled with a depth of love and determination that made my heart ache. He gently cupped my face, his thumbs brushing away the remnants of my tears.
"You're safe now, Sohana. I promise I won't let anything happen to you ever again," he vowed, his voice firm and resolute.
I clung to him, the fear and pain slowly ebbing away in the warmth of his embrace. His presence was like a beacon of hope in the darkness that had enveloped me. The nightmare I had endured seemed to fade into the background as I focused on the man who had come to my rescue.
Ruhaan's arms tightened around me, his breath warm against my hair. "I love you, Sohana," he murmured, his voice breaking slightly. "And I will never let you go."
"I love you too, Ruhaan," I whispered back, my voice filled with all the emotions I couldn't put into words. In his arms, I felt safe, loved, and cherished. And for the first time in what felt like forever, I allowed myself to believe that everything would be okay.
He broke the hug and began to untie the ropes that had caged my body for the entire week. As the restraints fell away, I felt a surge of relief wash over me. He smiled gently and placed a soft kiss on my forehead. His fingers lightly traced my cheeks, a feather-light touch that conveyed his love and concern. Then, he stood up, his expression shifting as his gaze fell upon Advik, who lay on the ground with his shirt soaked in blood.
Ruhaan tilted his head to get a better look at Advikโs face. His eyes widened in shock and recognition. I could see the pain and betrayal flash across his features. My heart ached as I closed my eyes, knowing how much this moment hurt him.
"Ad... Advik?" Ruhaan whispered, his voice laced with disbelief. He lifted his gaze to me, searching for answers.
"Is he the same person who kidnapped you?" Ruhaan asked, his voice trembling with a mix of sorrow and rage. His eyes filled with unshed tears, reflecting his inner turmoil.
I nodded, biting my lower lip to keep my emotions in check. Tears threatened to spill over, but I held them back. Ruhaan's eyes turned red with fury, and he shifted his gaze back to Advik, who was beginning to regain consciousness.
Advik opened his eyes and groaned in pain, trying to rub his aching back. Suddenly, he let out a scream, a guttural cry that echoed in the room.
"Ahhh..." he gasped, wincing as he struggled to move.
Advik looked up and met Ruhaan's furious gaze. He gulped nervously, his face pale with fear. Before he could react, Ruhaan landed a punch squarely on Advik's face.
"You bloody moron! You tried to hurt her? You bastard! How dare you, rascal? You were the one who called me and threatened to kill her, right?" Ruhaan roared, his voice shaking with uncontrollable anger.
Advik's head snapped back with the force of the punch, blood trickling from his nose. He coughed and tried to shield himself, but Ruhaan was relentless. He grabbed Advik by the collar and pulled him up, his eyes blazing with fury.
"You think you can get away with this? You think you can mess with my family and walk away?" Ruhaan hissed, his grip tightening on Advik's shirt.
Advik whimpered, his eyes darting around desperately for an escape. "I... I didn't mean to... I was just..."
"Just what?" Ruhaan interrupted, shaking him. "Just playing a sick game with her life? You're a coward, Advik. A pathetic excuse for a human being."
Ruhaan shoved Advik back to the ground with a force that made him yelp in pain. He turned to me, his expression softening instantly. He knelt beside me and gently took my hand, his touch tender and reassuring.
"Are you okay?" he asked, his voice a soft whisper now, filled with concern and love.
I nodded, tears finally spilling over. "I am now, thanks to you."
Ruhaan pulled me into another embrace, holding me tightly as if he would never let go. "I promise you, Sohana, he will pay for this. He will never hurt you again."
Behind us, Advik groaned in pain, trying to crawl away. Ruhaan noticed and stood up, his eyes narrowing. He held a gun and shot bullets at Advikโs back. He shot all the 6 bullets at his back and kicked him. Advik again laid on the ground as Ruhaan took big steps towards him.
โYou tried to hurt my Sohana?โ
โRuhaan...โ I called him, my voice trembling. He lifted his gaze to meet mine.
โHe is the one who murdered Avantika,โ I said, watching as his eyes widened in shock.
Ruhaanโs expression changed from shock to fury in an instant. He snapped his head towards Advik, his fingers tightening into fists.
โWh...what?โ he whispered, his voice coated with disbelief.
Ruhaan grabbed Advik by the collar and hauled him to his feet. Advik was already bleeding and looked terrified. Without hesitation, Ruhaan punched him in the stomach, causing him to stagger back and hit the wall.
โYou...you killed my Avni?โ Ruhaan's voice broke with emotion.
He grabbed Advik's leg, lifted him off the ground, and slammed him back down.
โUghhhhh!!!!โ Advik screamed in pain.
You deserve this, bastard. I cursed him in my mind.
โWait! You became friends with me just to hide your truth, didnโt you?โ Ruhaan said, realisation dawning in his eyes.
โYes, Ruhaan, this bastard tried to manipulate you,โ I said, panting heavily.
Ruhaan's eyes burned with rage as he looked at Advik. He kicked him hard in the chest.
โYou ruined my life, you rascal! You killed my Avantika. What did she ever do to you, huh? Why the hell did you kill her? She was innocent, pure, and never did wrong to anyone. Why did you take her life? You made me suffer for two years. My family cried and worried about me because I became a rude, arrogant, and emotionless person. My Maa, my poor Maa, always missed the son she used to know, her Ruhaan. She cried so much, trying to understand why I changed, but I pushed her away, along with everyone else. My cousins missed their brother, the one with whom they spent their childhood, the one who used to do everything for them when they were kids. My best friend Kabir always tried to console me, comfort me, and make me understand, but I treated him like a jerk. And lastly, my Sohana...โ He lifted his gaze to look at me.
His eyes were red, tears streaming down his cheeks. He bit his lower lip, trying to control himself.
โMy Sohana, she did so much for me. But in return, I hurt her the most. I broke her beyond limits, so much that she had to leave this city. I made her suffer because of my pain, my anger. And all because of you, Advik. You are the reason I lost everything!โ
Advik coughed, blood dripping from his mouth, but Ruhaan wasn't done. He lifted Advik by his shirt again and slammed him against the wall.
โYou will pay for this,โ Ruhaan growled.
โYou will suffer for what you've done. You took away my peace, my love, and turned me into someone I despise. You made me push away the people who loved me. You killed my Avni and tried to destroy my Sohana. You will rot in hell, and I will make sure you never see the light of day again.โ
Advik's eyes were wide with fear. He knew there was no escape. Ruhaan again kicked him on his balls and he groaned in pain.
"Ruhaan!!! You fucking moron!" Advik screamed, his voice echoing through the dimly lit room, but Ruhaan didn't care. His face was a mask of cold determination, unmoved by Advik's pleas. With a swift, brutal kick to Advik's groin, Ruhaan sent him crashing to the ground, gasping for breath.
Ignoring the pained whimpers, Ruhaan walked to the corner of the room and grabbed a heavy iron rod. He swung it with a terrifying precision, bringing it down hard on Advik's knee. The sickening crack of bone echoed in the air, followed by a scream of agony from Advik.
Ruhaan wasn't done. He drew a pistol from his waistband, the metallic gleam catching the light. Without a moment's hesitation, he fired a single shot into Advik's mouth. The bullet tore through flesh and bone, leaving Advik's face a bloody mess. Blood poured from the wound, and Ruhaan gripped Advik's hair tightly, yanking his head back violently.
Is he really my Ruhaan? The gentle, loving man I knew seemed to have vanished, replaced by this avenging angel, this ruthless warrior. My heart pounded in my chest as I watched, unable to tear my eyes away from the horrifying scene.
"You know, Advik," Ruhaan said, his voice low and menacing, "I don't like to hurt anyone. I know the pain of losing someone precious. But do you know this?" He jerked Advik's head, forcing him to look at me. "Look at her, the girl behind me."
Advik's eyes, filled with fear and pain, met mine. I could see the terror in his gaze, the dawning realization of his fate. Ruhaan's grip tightened, and he leaned in closer, his eyes never leaving mine.
"I can definitely kill anyone for her," Ruhaan said, his voice steady and unwavering. His eyes held a fierce truth, a promise that chilled me to my core. There was a fire in his gaze, a protective fury that both frightened and reassured me.
In that moment, I saw a side of Ruhaan I had never known existed. He wasn't just the caring, compassionate man I loved; he was also a force of nature, a man who would go to any lengths to protect those he cared about. The depth of his love and loyalty was both awe-inspiring and terrifying.
Advik's body trembled, a mixture of pain and fear rendering him helpless. "Please, Ruhaan," he gasped, blood bubbling from his mouth. "I'm sorry. I'll do anything you want. Just don't kill me."
Ruhaan's expression hardened, and he pressed the barrel of the gun against Advik's forehead. "Sorry won't bring back the dead," he said coldly. "Sorry won't undo the pain you've caused. You made your choices, Advik. Now you have to live with the consequences."
Advik's eyes widened in terror, his pleas turning to incoherent babbling. Ruhaan glanced at me, his gaze softening for a brief moment. "Sohana, turn away. You don't need to see this."
But I couldn't move. I was rooted to the spot, unable to tear my eyes away from the scene unfolding before me. I knew that this moment would haunt me forever, a brutal reminder of the lengths Ruhaan would go to for those he loved.
Ruhaan looked back at Advik, his resolve unshaken. "This is for Avantika," he whispered, and was about to pull the trigger but suddenly the police officers entered.
"Mr. Ruhaan, don't do this." The officer's voice trembled with urgency as he watched Ruhaan's hand steady on the gun's trigger.
"No, officer, this bastard killed my Avantika," Ruhaan's voice cracked with the weight of his pain and fury. "And now he hurt Sohana. He tried to kill her. There's no way I'm going to leave him unpunished."
His eyes were dark with rage, his grip tightening on the gun. With a swift motion, he aimed the gun at Advik's chest, his finger pressing down on the trigger.
A loud bang echoed through the room as the officer lunged towards Ruhaan, his hands desperately grabbing at Ruhaan's arm. The bullet veered off course, striking Advik's hand instead of his chest. Advik screamed in agony, clutching his bleeding hand.
"Mr. Ruhaan, think calmly," the officer pleaded, his voice steady but urgent. "We need him alive. He has to admit his deeds in court. We need his confession, his words of guilt recorded. It's the only way justice will be served."
Ruhaan stood frozen. He glanced at me, I was watching everything with wide, fearful eyes, my face pale.
The room was tense with silence, the only sound the ragged breathing of Advik, now whimpering on the floor.
"Ruhaan," I called him, my voice was soft, a fragile whisper. "Please... for Avantika. Let the law take its course."
"Fine," he muttered, his voice barely audible. "But he better not get away with this."
Then he dropped the gun and turned to me, his eyes searching mine. "Are you alright?" he asked softly, his voice full of concern.
I nodded, though my mind was still reeling from the violence I had just witnessed. "I... I think so," I whispered.
He stepped closer, his hands gentle as they cupped my face. "From now, I'll always be there to protect you, Sohana. To make sure no one ever hurts you again."
Tears filled my eyes, and I leaned into his touch, seeking comfort in his familiar warmth. "I don't know how to feel," I admitted. "Part of me is scared, but another part of me... I'm grateful."
Ruhaan's eyes softened, and he kissed my forehead tenderly. "I understand," he murmured. "It's a lot to take in. But remember this: I will always protect you, no matter what. You're the most important part of my life." He said and stood up.
He walked towards the officer, and I stayed in my place, watching his every move.
"Officer, I need the best punishment for this bastard. I want him to die, to rot in hell," Ruhaan said, his voice trembling with anger and pain. He started talking with the officer, but something caught my eyeโLisa and the man who had escaped from jail were gone. Panic surged through me as I realized they were still a threat.
My heartbeats quickened as I tried to stand up, using my bleeding hand for support. The pain was excruciating, but I had to warn Ruhaan. I couldnโt let them get away.
"Aaahhh!" I screamed in pain when I felt a strong hit on the back of my head. I crumpled to the ground, the world spinning around me. Slowly, I looked back and saw Lisa and the man standing there, their faces covered with masks, holding a metal rod. My vision became blurry as I struggled to stay conscious. They both ran away from there.
"Ruh...Ruhaan!" I called out, straining to lift my head and see him through the haze of pain. He sprinted towards me, his face a mask of desperation, and gathered me into his arms.
"Sohana!!!" His voice cracked as he said my name, his tears mingling with the rain that soaked us both.
"Ruh..." I whispered, entwining our fingers, the simple touch grounding me in the reality of the moment.
"I am going to die..." I whispered again, a weak smile playing on my lips as I fought to keep my eyes open.
He shook his head fiercely, tightening his grip around me as if his sheer will could keep me alive.
"No, Sohana, you can't leave me like this. I'll die without you. There is no Ruhaan without his Sohana," he said, his voice breaking with each word. Tears streamed down both our faces.
"This was it, Ruhaan. This was our journey," I said, my voice faltering. "Now, I have to leave you. I can't handle any more. My heart is aching. I am...ahhh, I'm so sorry, Ruhaan. I couldn't spend my wh...whole life...with...you." I struggled to complete my sentence, each word a monumental effort.
"No, Sohana, please. I'll die without you. You're the sole reason for my existence. Don't leave me. I can't endure this pain again," he pleaded, his voice raw with anguish. I lifted my hand, trembling with the effort, to wipe away his tears.
A faint smile touched my lips as I looked into his eyes, those eyes that had always held so much love for me. "You have to be strong, Ruhaan. You have to live...for both of us. Promise me you'll find happiness again."
He shook his head, his grip tightening. "No, Sohana, I can't. I can't imagine a life without you."
"You can," I insisted softly. "You have to. For me."
He kissed my forehead, his lips trembling. "I promise, Sohana. I'll try. For you."
With the last of my strength, I squeezed his hand. "I love you, Ruhaan. Always remember that."
"I love you too, Sohana. More than anything," he replied, his voice breaking as he held me closer.
As the pain ebbed away, I felt a strange sense of peace wash over me. I closed my eyes, feeling his warmth, hearing his heartbeat one last time. And then, with a final breath, I whispered,
"Thank you so much for loving me Ruhaan."
"Thank you so much for loving me Ruhaan." With that she closed her eyes.
"Nooooooo!!!!!!!"
Time skip....
I was standing in the corridor of the hospital, anxiously waiting for the doctor to arrive. My Sohana was in the operating theater, and I was consumed with worry.
One question kept circling in my mind: who had hit my Sohana on the head?
The police officers had taken Advik to the station. That bastard would confess to everything, but right now, my only concern was Sohana.
The doctor finally emerged from the operating theater and approached me with a grim expression.
"Mr. Raichand, her condition is critical. It appears she was struck on the head with a metal object. Additionally, she's extremely scared because of her injuries. It's a very delicate situation, but we'll do our best," he said.
Frustration boiled over inside me at his words. I took a few aggressive steps toward him.
"Three years ago, you said the same thingโ'We'll try our best.' And now you're saying it again. Remember, if anything happens to my Sohana, I will burn this whole damn hospital to the ground," I threatened, my voice shaking with anger. The doctor looked at me with fear in his eyes before stepping back and hurrying away.
I clenched my fists, desperate for answers. "I need to know who the bastard is that hit my Sohana. I have to report this to the inspector," I muttered to myself.
"No need for that, Ruhaan," came a voice from behind. I turned to see Kabir approaching with two people in tow, their faces covered by masks.
"Kabir? Who are they?" I asked, confusion and anger mixing in my voice.
"They're the reason Sohana is here," he replied, his eyes hardening as he looked at them.
"What?" I asked, my heart pounding faster.
"Yes, Ruhaan. They are the ones who attacked Sohana. When you were inside, they came from another entrance, their faces hidden. They were running fast, so I suspected them. I managed to catch them and was going to tell you, but after hearing about Sohana, I got distracted. This woman was holding a metal rod; she threw it away when she was running. After hearing the doctor say that Sohana was hit with a metal object, I'm certain these two are responsible. Why else would they run away like scared cats?" Kabir explained.
I stepped closer to the masked figures, my eyes narrowing as I took them in. The woman flinched under my gaze, while the man stood motionless.
"Take off their masks," I ordered, my voice cold and authoritative. Kabir obliged, revealing their faces. My heart stopped when I recognized the woman.
"Lisa?" I breathed, unable to comprehend what I was seeing. Lisa, my best friend, stood before me, her eyes filled with guilt and fear. The man beside her had a hardened expression; he was someone I knew all too well. He was the same man Sohana and I had caught and sent to jail, along with others, for causing the death of Avantika, my ex-girlfriend, by tampering with the brakes of her car.
"Why did you do it?" I demanded, my voice trembling with rage and betrayal.
Lisa looked away, "You want to know?" she sobbed. "Then listen."
"It's because I liked you from the beginning Ruhaan, even when there was no sign of Avantika in your life. I liked you since I met you in the US but you never understood my feelings. And when you left US and I got to know that you have made a girlfriend. I was heartbroken, I was broken beyond repair. But again after 3 years, I got to know about Avantika's death. I thought my path was clear, and I would re-enter in your life but again that Sohana ruined everything. So I thought to clean her from my path to get you." She said, her voice trembling.
"And what about Advik? Why the hell you were with him in all this?" I asked her, my voice raised.
She looked up at me and whispered, "He is my brother."
My eyes widened at her words.
"And why did Advik kidnapped Sohana?"
Lisa glanced at the man beside her before answering. "Advik. He wanted to frighten her, to make her back off from something she was investigating."
My heart pounded in my chest. "What was she investigating?"
"Something about his business dealings," Lisa said, her voice trembling. "She found out something she shouldn't have. He wanted to silence her."
I felt a cold fury settle over me. "Take them to the police," I said to Kabir. "Make sure they confess everything."
Kabir nodded, leading the pair away. I turned back toward the operating theater, the weight of the situation settling over me. My Sohana had been trying to uncover something important, something dangerous. And now she was fighting for her life because of it.
I took a deep breath, trying to steady myself. "Hang in there, Sohana," I whispered.
"I'm going to make sure justice is served. For you."
