After I came back from the club, I freshened up and crawled into bed. But sleep didn't come easily. I couldn't stop thinking about Ruhaan Raichand. There was something about him-a weight he carried that was impossible to ignore. He must have a past. He's definitely suffering, and the thought of it made me feel sad for him. But then, a memory stirred within me, something I hadn't thought about in a long time.

Suddenly, I sat up and went to my closet. Hidden in the back was a small box. My heart raced as I opened it, revealing an old photograph-his photograph. I took it out, my mind instantly transported to the day I clicked it.

Flashback - 2014

It was the sports day at school, and I stood near the basketball court, eagerly waiting for him-my handsome crush-to arrive. The moment he walked onto the court, my heart skipped a beat. He looked as perfect as always. I couldn't take my eyes off him. Every time I saw him, an inexplicable happiness washed over me.

He started playing, and soon the crowd erupted into cheers. Girls all around me were swooning, calling out his name, and I felt a surge of possessiveness rise inside me.

"He's mine, you bitches," I muttered silently to myself, glaring at them.

I turned my attention back to him just in time to catch him smiling at his fan girls. No! My heart screamed in protest. You can't smile at them! You can only smile at me. Watching him made my head spin. He had this effect on me-an effect no one else ever had.

The match ended, and as expected, he and his team won. I was bursting with pride, my eyes never leaving him for a second. That's when an idea hit me-I needed a way to see him whenever I wanted. I had my camera with me, originally meant for taking pictures of my younger brother, who was playing badminton. But now, it would serve a different purpose.

As I focused the lens, I saw the most breathtaking sight-he was smiling, showing off his dimples. Oh my Krishna, he had dimples! He looked adorable, and before I could even think, I clicked the photo. It wasn't perfect-a little blurry since I was far away-but it didn't matter.

I turned back, hoping to get another shot, but he was already gone. Disappointment washed over me, but I consoled myself. One blurry picture was enough for now. I could see him whenever I wanted, even if it was just through this photograph.

Flashback ends

"I don't know who you are, or what your name is," I whispered to the photo. "I don't know where you are now. I don't even know how I fell for you. But I do know one thing-I love you. You were my first crush, my handsome, and I never imagined I'd fall this deeply for someone I barely knew."

My voice trembled as I continued, "But I saw you that day on the basketball court, and something changed in me. Ten years have passed, and I still can't forget you. Maybe it was the way you smiled... that smile has stayed with me all these years. My friends say it was just a crush, that it was nothing more than a passing attraction, but I know the truth. It's more than that. It's love. Wherever you are, I hope you're happy."

Tears slipped down my cheeks as I placed the photograph back into the box. I quickly wiped them away and took out my phone. I clicked a picture of the photograph and set it as my wallpaper. Smiling softly, I whispered, "You'll always be special to me."

With that, I tucked the box back into the closet and fell asleep, hugging my phone tightly against my chest.

The next morning, I was startled awake by the sound of shouting. It must be Sanaya, I thought, rolling my eyes. She was probably yelling at poor Papa again. I got up, hurried through my morning routine, and went to the hall where the argument was in full swing.

"Papa, I'm not a kid anymore! Please let me go to Bangkok. If I lose this opportunity, I'll never become a fashion designer. You know how much this means to me!" Sanaya pleaded, her voice breaking.

Papa, his expression softening, sighed. "Sanaya, I understand. But you're so kind-hearted and innocent... this world can be cruel. I can't bear the thought of something happening to you."

After losing Maa, Papa had become incredibly protective of us. When I wanted to study MBBS in Mumbai, he refused and enrolled me in the best university in Ahmedabad, not willing to let me go far from home.

"But Papa-" Sanaya began again.

"Papa, please," I interrupted. "She's serious about this. She needs to chase her dreams. How will she learn to face the world if we shelter her all the time?"

Sanaya nodded eagerly. "Yes, Papa! I know I overthink and I'm sensitive, but I need to stand on my own two feet. It's only for four months. Please give me this chance."

After a moment of hesitation, Papa finally relented. "Alright... but if anything happens, you call us immediately."

Sanaya and I squealed in delight and threw our arms around him in a tight hug. "Thank you, Papa!" we chorused.

Later at the hospital, I was sitting in my cabin, catching up on work, when my phone rang. It was an unknown number. I picked it up, my curiosity piqued, but there was only silence on the other end.

"Hello?" I prompted.

A deep, dangerous voice finally answered, sending a chill down my spine. "Is this Dr. Sohana Shekhawat?"

I swallowed hard. "Y-Yes. Who's calling?"

"This is Ruhaan Raichand," the voice replied coldly.

My heart skipped a beat. Ruhaan Raichand? "Oh... um, why are you calling?" I managed to ask.

"I won't be able to make it to the hospital today. I have an important meeting. I'll come tomorrow instead."

"Okay, as you wish," I said, but before I could say more, the line went dead.

The day passed quickly as I busied myself with rounds, patient checkups, and lunch in the hospital canteen. By the time I checked my phone, it was already 7 p.m. I gasped. The business event! I had promised Papa I'd come home early.

I rushed home, barely making it in time. Papa opened the door, looking less than pleased. Without waiting for him to scold me, I flashed a sheepish grin and bolted upstairs to get ready. I threw on my favorite black, shimmery gown, tied my hair into a bun, and added a pair of earrings.

Downstairs, I found Papa and Sanaya waiting, Papa still looking annoyed. But after a few hugs, his anger melted away, and we headed to the event like an obedient trio.

The event venue was stunning, filled with businessmen from all over the city. We roamed around, admiring the decor until the speeches started. Boring speeches. I was barely paying attention, my mind elsewhere, when suddenly the announcement I wasn't expecting echoed through the hall.

"The Best Businessman of the Year Award goes to... Mr. Ruhaan Raichand!"

My heart skipped a beat. I had to see him. I just had to.

Just as I was about to catch a glimpse of him on stage, my phone buzzed with a call from my three monkeys-Alisha, Rishi, and Nitya. Excusing myself, I stepped outside, though my eyes lingered on the stage, hoping to see him.

"Hellooo, Sohana! Zinda hai ya mar gayi?" Alisha's annoyed voice rang through the phone.
(Hello, Sohana! Are you alive or dead?)

"Haan, haan, bol. Kya bol rahi thi?" I responded, though my focus remained on the stage. The lights were too bright, and I still couldn't get a proper look at him.
(Yes, yes, speak. What were you saying?)

I chatted with them for a few minutes but quickly hung up, eager to return. As I walked back to my seat, I scanned the room, searching for that Raichand, but he seemed to have vanished.

"You know, di, that Ruhaan Raichand is so damn handsome!" Sanaya exclaimed excitedly when I sat down.

"Really? Is he?" I asked, raising an eyebrow.

"Yes, diiii, he's so freaking handsome! He's perfect for you," she said mischievously, her eyes twinkling.

Why on earth is everyone trying to ship me with him?! I groaned internally.

"Shut up, you little cat! I don't even know him, and you're already shipping us," I said, faking an annoyed expression.

"Okay, okay, don't get mad! I was just joking. But I swear, if you see him, your eyes will be glued to him," she teased with a grin.

After a while, the event ended, and we headed back home.

The next morning, I woke up in a panic-I was late. Rushing to the washroom, I quickly completed my morning routine, threw on my white coat, and dashed out the door. Today, Raichand was supposed to come to the hospital, and knowing he's a businessman, I doubted he'd be the type to appreciate tardiness.

I reached the hospital and headed straight to my cabin, not bothering to greet anyone on the way. But to my surprise, when I arrived, there was no one there. I had sacrificed my beauty sleep and hurried through my morning routine just to make sure I wasn't late-and for what? No Raichand.

Frustrated, I decided to do my rounds and check on the kids admitted to the hospital. As I approached their room, I noticed several guards standing outside the door.

Frowning, I asked, "What are you all doing here?"

One of them replied, "Our boss is inside, playing with the kids."

Suspicion crept in. No strangers are allowed in patient rooms, especially not in the kids' ward. Yet here someone was, inside, playing with them?

I pushed open the door and stepped inside, glancing around. What I saw left me speechless. And the person I saw? Even more shocking.

I never imagined I'd walk into this kind of situation.
