"WE'RE PLAYING A SCHOOL DANCE?SWEET." Reggie mumbled staring at the piece of paper in his hand, he showed it to Luke who smiled but still seemed a bit dissatisfied.
"It's not exactly the Strip." He mumbled looking at the girl in front of him who watered the many dying plants in her garage.
"Well, your not exactly alive so you should be happy we have our first gig." Reggie replied as a loud clattering caught his attention.
"I dropped it again!" Roxy groaned and picked up the watering can again, "But that's my record 3 minutes." She grinned and began to count again.
"I wasn't in love with the idea of performing at my school at first either, but it could be a great way for us to build a following, right?" Julie said.
"Yeah, yeah, we need to play wherever we can, whenever we can." Reggie added.
"No, you're right, let's rock those kids faces off and then play at the clubs." Luke encouraged as Julie smiled and followed along.
"And then record an album that gets billion streams."
"I don't know what that is, but hopefully it lands us a manager and a tour."
"Then will release a bunch of hit albums."
"Put out a country album that does surprisingly well." Reggie tried to add but Julie looked at him with a raised brow, "I shred on the banjo so.."
"I'm actually really good with a harmonica." Roxy lost her focus as she spoke which caused her to drop the water can, she pouted as her lip stuck out. "Damn it."
"Then I'll learn how to fiddle." Julie laughed and gave a small fist bump to both Reggie and Roxy after she gave up on the water can.
"And before you know it, we're being inducted into the rock n' roll hall of fame." Luke exclaimed in excitement as they all imagined the dramatic scenario.
"But one of us isn't there." Reggie dramatically saidΒ "Because we had a blow out in 2032, my money's on Alex, he's just so sensitive."
"Now, don't be mean Reg." Roxy punched his arm, "If anything it might as well be me, I mean, you know how bad I get when I'm put under extreme pressure."
"Your right."
"What are we waiting for, let's get rehearsing!" Luke spoke up as if he was a manager.
"Uh...where's Alex?" Julie asked as they all shrugged and looked at Roxy who most likely knew where he was since they 2 were inseparable.
"What?" She asked
"Where's Alex?" Luke began
"I'm not telling you."
"You have to, we gotta practice."
"Then we'll wait till he comes back."
"We don't have time for that Rox."
"We have all the time in the world."
β
Roxy sat on the couch with her arms crossed as the 3 band members practiced the song, she refused to play unless Alex was their, does that make her stubborn and annoying, yes, but she felt as thought it was a betrayal to play without all the band members there.
She looked up when she heard footsteps approach the garage and saw the blonde with a smile enter the room, "Lexie!" Roxy smiled as the boy waved and gave her a smile back.
"Oh, hey Alex."
"Where have you been, we need to start practicing." Luke said as Roxy rolled her eyes, "Don't roll your eyes at me Roxanne Gomez."
"Alright mom."
"What are we practicing for?" Alex asked as the garage door swung open and a girl peeked inside with a mischievous grin.
"Dance news!" Flynn shouted enthusiastically throwing her arms in the air but she slumped her back as she entered the room "I don't have a date." She mumbled "But I don't care because I'm so psyched to see you guys perform."
"Oh man, we're playing a dance?" Alex questioned looking at bit disappointed at the news of their first gig.
"Of course dude, that's how we get a following nowadays." Luke shrugged and sat down on a chair behind him.
"Yeah, get with the program Alex." Julie chuckled as Roxy suddenly stood up.
"I understood that reference." She shouted as the band looked at her weirdly, Julie laughed and gave her a thumbs up.
"I so proud Roxy."
"What?" Flynn suddenly yelled "The guys are here?" She said and waved in the opposite directions "Hey guys."
"Hey!"
"Come on Flynn, there's a girl too, she doesn't like it when people only appreciate the men." Julie explained "Beside, it's the other way sweetie."
"Oh, sorry girl ghost, hey guys and girl." She waved in the correct direction as the band mates waved back.
"Okay...well now that Alex has graced us with his presence, can we start working." Luke said and turned to Roxy, "With all of our members"
"Yes, we're gonna rehearse, you wanna stick around?" Julie asked her friend.
"I'm suppose to blow up 500 balloons for the school dance, but this sounds way better." Flynn laughed as a boy suddenly came running in with a paper in his hand.
"He Julie, you know those pictures dad took of the house, well I think those orbs were actually ghost, but don't worry, this room is......is.....this room is clean." The small boy inspected as he looked around the garage, "I'm not getting the ghost tingles."
"Wrong again little dude." Reggie laughed as the group all quietly snickered at the boys oblivious actions.
"Ghost tingles? What is that suppose to mean?" Roxy asked as her brows furrowed, "Do we smell or something."
"Have no fear, if they come back, I will protect you because I am the man of the house." He puffed his chest trying to look brave but Julie clearly looked behind his façade and chuckled.
"Isn't dad supposed to be the man of the house?"
"There can be two." Carlos crossed his arms and awkwardly laughed "Dad needs all the help he can get, right?" He shrugged and suddenly reached into his pocket "According to the Internet, salt burns are sold out." The smiles each of the band members had dropped as they galanes at each other, Roxy stood up and protectively stood in front of Alex before the boy could do anything. "A little sprinkle will keep them from ever coming in here."
He began to throw salt around the room nearly hitting Luke and Reggie before he turned towards Alex and Roxy, Carlos threw salt as Roxy protected the blonde, it landed and went through her stomach. She let out a pained yell and dropped in Alex's arms, the band mates stared at her with shocked faces as she gripped her stain her.
"Oh god, it....it...it's fine, I'm all good." She smiled as Alex hugged her from behind and rested his head on her shoulder with a pout."Yes, yes, Lexie, I know." She mumbled and patted his head.
"You scared me Roxanne." Alex sighed as Roxy rolled her eyes and laughed until Julie cleared her throat and looked towards Flynn. She nodded her head towards Carlos and Flynn stood confused for a few seconds before the idea clicked.
"Oh..Carlos, you know who's hungry, me." Flynn terribly lied "Um...salt me a path to the kitchen." Carlos nodded and took the picture and salt with him as he walked out the garage.
"Shall we try this again?" Julie asked as they all gathered their instruments.
"Yes, please, but remind us later there some Sunset Curve songs we wanna show you." Luke told her as Julie seemed to be interested.
"Ooh, show me now."
"Yeah, okay." Luke mumbled and reached down for his notebook full of songs but his eyes furrowed when he saw paper sticking out. "Home is where my horse is..Reggie stop putting your country songs in my journal." He consolides and threw the paper on the ground.
"That, was a gift."
"Thanks buddy." Luke sarcastically sneered.
"Yeah, you should maybe circle back-"
"I dog-eared the ones that I think you would slay." Luke interrupted and handed the notebook to Julie, she flipped through the pages and stopped on one that seemed to get her attention.
"Who's Emily?"
"That Obed not dog-eared." Luke quickly said and tried to grab the notebook from her hand as the band mates awkwardly glanced at each other.
"If you could only know, that I never let you go." Julie read from the book and looked up at Luke, "Wow Luke, I didn't know you were such a romantic."
"He's not." Alex spoke up, "That one's actually about-"
"No one." Luke interrupted again, "Uh, that's just something that I tried, and..." tried to reach for the notebook again but Julie pulled away. "But if you go to the next dog-eared page, I got a tune that's just....it's got a killer beat." He plucked his strings and showcased the killer beat to Julie trying to pull the conversation away from the Emily song.
"So you wanna sample?" Julie questioned
"What do you mean sample?"
"Sample someone else's music, me and my mom used to sing that song at the top of our lungs in the car all the time, it's a classic Trevor Wilson song."
"Nope, it's a classic our song." Roxy said, "I literally helped with that one since this dumbass was having trouble."
"Pure Sunset Curve, never even heard of Trevor Wilson." Reggie added
"Maybe you're mixing it up, you know, with another song." Alex suggested as Julie put a sarcastic offended look on her face.
"I don't mix up songs, trust me, me and his daughter used to be best friends. I used to hang out at their place all the time, I know that song." She turned around and grabbed her laptop, "Here, i'll prove it." She quickly typed something and turned the screen so it faced the band. "His first album had a bunch of hits, but none of his latest stuff is as good."
It's almost as if time had stopped, they stared at the picture of a older man, he had a beard growing and a large grin. Silence filled the room as they all stated at the picture, "That's Bobby." Luke spoke up.
"Seriously, I just told you his name is Trevor."
"Okay, great, t-then..he changed it, all right. That's definitely Bobby, he was our old rhythm guitarist before we died, that's why we replaced him with Roxy." Alex explained in a rushed tone.
"Trevor Wilson was in your band?" Julie asked not believing a single thing the band told her, but they couldn't blame her. A famous singer part of a old ghost band, it sounded extremely unbelievable, but it was true.
"I can't get over how old he looks." Reggie mumbled looking closer at the picture in disgust.
"I told he should've put on more sunscreen, now he looks.....old..all the wrinkles and ew." Roxy gagged and covered her mouth as she looked at the picture, "He looks like a substitute teacher."
"I was say that." Alex said as the 2 friends smirked at each other and high-fived, "Great minds think alike."
"Julie." Luke muttered, "What were his other hits?"
"Get lost."
As the words came out of her mouth Luke sucked in a breath, "Yeah, I wrote that."
"Long weekend?"
"Yeah, like wrote that one too."
"Crooked Teeth?"
"And that." Alex replied and pointed towards the boy next to him, "It was about Reggie."
"What, I thought it was about you!" Reggie looked at Alex with a shocked look, "I don't like that song anymore." He muttered
"Okay what about mommy issues, it can't be about any of you guys right?"
"Do not get me started on that song." Roxy snapped, "He wrote it about me when my mother died."
"Oh.." Julie eyes widened as she went into an awkward silence, "Wait this is....freaking me out, Trevor songs are kind of big to me, he's the one who introduced me to rock."
"Yeah, like introduced you to rock." Alex scoffed as he glanced at the boy aggressively throwing arrows at a target.
"So this whole time, I thought you were connected to my mom...but instead your connected to Carrie's dad?" Julie questioned, "Out of all people it had to be the one girl who had it out for me."
"All right, well, add it to our list of questions." Alex said
"Back when Carrie and I were friends, the three of us used to talk about music all the time." Julie explained "He never mentioned you guys."
"And that's unbelievable!" Luke shouted as he turned towards his group friends, "Okay, he can take all the credit and he doesn't even mention us?"
"And he's rich," Julie added "He has his own helicopter."
"He has....he has a...a helicopter?" Alex asked
"With his face on it."
"And he parks it in front of that hotel?" Reggie asked
"No, he gets to park in front of his mansion."
"Mansion?"
"Dude, we live in a garage." Alex complained as Roxy rolled her at the sight of the things Bobby did, all of that because of them, yet he didn't even say a single word
about Sunset Curve.
"It's not about the money, it's about the music!" Luke yelled.
"It's a little bit about the money though!"
"A little bit about the money."
"He could've shared it with our families." Reggie argued, "Maybe then my parents wouldn't have had their house turned into a bike shack."
"What he did is steal our legacy." Luke said angrily and turned towards Julie, "Where does he live?"
"Above the beach in Malibu."
"Let's go teach him a lesson." Reggie muttered
"Wait what? Guys we have to rehearse for the dance, this is our first gig." Before she could even convince any of them to stay they teleported out without another word.
