7. Unlikely Encounters Lead To Broken Noses.
______
Emersyn didn't like high school the first time around, but she definitely didn't like it the second time. Both Elena and Caroline had skipped, leaving her alone for the better part of the day until she came across Bonnie, who happened to be busy, which left her alone once again.
By lunch hour, the Stark was sitting alone outside of the school at one of the picnic tables, staring at her notebook with music blasting in her ears thanks to Jarvis.
Glancing up from her notebook where multiple equations were written out -she was trying to figure out how exactly a person could time travel- she noticed Stefan and Caroline not too far away from her.
Her nose scrunched as she looked back down only for the pair to sit in front of her. Her face didn't move, however, her eyes looked up questioningly at the pair.
"I'm a little busy, guys," she muttered, biting the tip of her pencil.
Caroline glanced at her papers and frowned, "What are you working on? That doesn't look like algebra."
"I'm trying to figure out how to go back in time. What are you doing?" Emersyn asked with a sigh, closing her notebook after realizing this was going to be a conversation, not a quiet sit down.
"What? You think it's possible?"
"You two are blood sucking vampires. Bonnie is a magical witch. And one of my best friends is a God from outer space. I think anything is possible unless proven otherwise."
Stefan smiled slightly as he grabbed her book and opened it back up, "What does all of this mean?"
"Absolutely nothing," Emersyn answered. "Well, not until I have Jarvis open it up on a hologram and can view it in the shape of a mobius strip. Until then, this is all garbage."
"Jarvis as in your robot?"
"AI," she corrected, "But yes. And I can't exactly have holograms open here, so I'll have to wait until later. Besides, I think we have chemistry homework."
"You're figuring out time travel while also doing chemistry homework?" Caroline asked, baffled by the Stark's intelligence.
"Yes? What else is there to do around here?"
"Anything but schoolwork."
"I've been here for three weeks and I think I have been to school more than all of you combined in the last four years. Seriously, Caroline, I have seen you here one day; my first day. How do you all expect to graduate?"
"Compulsion."
"I figured as much," Emersyn said with a sigh. "Or you could stick it out with the rest of your grade and actually put some work in."
"Where's the fun in that?" Caroline answered with a smirk, while Stefan sighed, rubbing his forehead at the blonde vampire's enthusiasm.
Packing up her bag, Emersyn took her notebook back from Stefan and stood up from the table, "Alright. I gotta head out. I have to head back to New York. I have something to do there."
Stefan looked up at her, "Will you be back?"
She grinned as she placed her hand on his cheek, "Don't sound so sad. You're giving me mixed signals, Stef."
Blushing, he shook his head, "I didn't mean it like that. I justโ"
Caroline cut him off, "You two would be hot together."
"I would be hot with anyone," Emersyn answered, her smirk never leaving her lips as she patted Stefan's cheek. "Don't worry, honey. You're Elena's. I know that. You're just so much fun to tease. I'll be back tomorrow afternoon."
"Do you want someone to go with you?" Caroline asked.
Emersyn shrugged, "If you want to. It's not anything exciting. My dad just needs me to look at something."
"You're dad as in... Can I come? Please, Emโ Max. I'll be good."
The Stark chuckled, "With the way you're talking, it sounds like we're fucking. But yeah, you can come."
"I would not be opposed to fucโ" Stefan put his hand over Caroline's mouth and sighed. "The two of you will be the death of me, I swear."
"I mean, you can always join us."
"Get out of here. Go back home."
She grinned, "Yes, sir."

Landing the quinjet, Emerson stood on the helipad on the top of Stark tower alone. Caroline had been pulled away, something about Elena needing her, which left her all to herself for the hour and a half flight.
Walking through the glass sliding door, she was immediately tackled to the ground. Grunting, she grabbed the person by their throat and flipped them over so she was on top.
Her eyes were hard as she stared down at the person. The person below her, however, smirked.
"Hello, Natasha."
"Hey, little Stark."
"Was that really necessary?"
"Of course. You haven't trained in weeks. I needed to test you."
"And how did I do?" Emersyn asked, not letting up on her grip on the red head's neck.
"Reflexes, good. Reaction time, not great," Natasha answered bluntly. "Now will you let me go?"
"I'm thinking about it. What will I get in return?"
"I'll steal some of your dads chocolate he had imported from Belgium."
"Tempting. Okay," Emersyn answered, letting her neck go before standing and holding out her hand. Natasha grabbed her hand and stood.
"You're dad's in his lab, by the way. I think he was waiting for you."
"Okay. See you later, Nat."
"Bye, Starky."
Walking into her fathers lab, she was immediately pulled into a bear hug. Laughing at her fathers actions, she wrapped her arms around his back.
"I missed you, kid," he told her, his voice muffled slightly by her hair.
They had never been apart for this long. They were used to being away from each other for a couple of days, not a couple of weeks. Except for one time where Emersyn had been away for a year, but they had both blocked that out.ย
It was safe to say they missed each other.
"I missed you more, dad," she admitted, holding him tightly, gripping the back of his shirt.
Waiting till he let go, she moved back a step. Smiling, she glanced around the lab. Nothing had changed, other than a few more coffee cups and energy drinks.
"So why did you call me here?"
"Do I need a reason? I missed my daughter."
She chuckled, "Mhm. And what is the real reason?"
"We have a mission."
Her eyebrows scrunched as curiosity flooded her. "Oh? Is it a good one?"
"Better than the last one," he told her, trying his best not to think about their previous mission. It had ended with Emersyn on life support and an angry Winter Soldier in their hands. "We're more prepared this time. Got the whole team. Except for Barnes. He's not mission ready yet."
Emersyn nodded. She knew Bucky didn't want to fight anymore and she was happy he wasn't being forced to anymore.
"When do we leave?" Emersyn asked, excited to finally be doing something of meaning. Being a fake high school student was very boring.
"An hour. Suit up."
Emersyn stared at him, "Isn't my suit fucked? Last time I saw it there was bullet holes and blood allโ"
"I made you a new one. This one is bulletproof. It's in your room."
Sitting on a motorbike behind Steve, Emersyn had his shield on her back while she shot one of her guns at the Hydra agents. The ground was covered in snow, leaving them with a rough terrain through the forest as they zipped by trees.
She grabbed Steve by his shoulder as they made a rather large jump on the bike before she threw his shield at a group of men before it bounced back into Steve's hand.
"Good throw, Syn," Steve told her. He had been teaching her how to use the shield during the duration of their stay in Mystic Falls.
Through their earpiece, they heard Tony yell out. "Shit!"
"Language," Steve replied. "Jarvis, what's the view from upstairs?"
"The central building is protected by some kind of energy shield. Strucker's technology is well beyond any other Hydra base we've taken," the AI answered.
"Loki's scepter must be here," Thor spoke up as he threw a man across a field. "Strucker couldn't mount this defense without it. At long last."
"At long last is lasting a little long, boys," Natasha said as she shot a man who attempted to attack her from behind. Clint shot an arrow at a group who were on a tank, "Yeah. I think we lost the element of surprise."
"Wait a second. No one else is gonna deal with the fact that Cap just said 'language'?"
Emersyn grinned while Steve grunted. "I know." Glancing back at Emersyn, he nodded and she jumped off the bike, landing on a Hydra agent's shoulders while Steve flipped his bike in the air, throwing it into a tank that had been speeding towards them.
Grabbing the man's neck beneath her, she held it tightly, pushing on the pressure point below his ear, instantly making him pass out.
Jumping off his shoulders before his body hit the ground, she looked back at Steve who was holding in a sigh. "Just slipped out."
A ringing noise took Emersyn's attention off of Steve and she glanced down before fishing her phone out from her pocket. Audibly sighing, she answered it and held it up to her ear.
"What's up? I'm a bit busy."
"Sorry, Emersyn. Do you know where Elena is?" Stefan's voice asked through the small speaker.
Glancing behind her, Emersyn grabbed Steve's shield from his back and threw it hard, sending it flying through the air, knocking down five guards before landing back in Steve's hand.
"What was that?" Stefan asked, a prominent look of confusion on his face. "Where are you? I thought you were in New York."
"Like I said, Stefan. I'm a little busy," Emersyn said with a pained grunt as a man tackled her from behind. Dropping her phone, she wrapped her legs around his throat and held him tightly, while grabbing her phone once more.
"I don't know where she is, Stef."
"Forget that. Where the hell are you? Are you okay?" Stefan's voice rushed out.
"I'm fine. I'm in Sokovia."
"Sokโ You know what? I'm not going to ask. Let me know if Elena tells you where she is. Be safe with whatever it is you are doing."
"Kay."
"Bye."
"Kay."
Hanging up, she glanced down at the man between her thighs who was staring at her with an angry look.
"You're very ugly," she perceived. "That haircut does nothing for your face shape. It makes you look all lopsided."
The man growled, causing her to recoil. "Ew. What the fuck was that? Are you a dog? Oh my god. Are you a furry? You know, for a long time I thought Bucky was a furryโ"
"Kid, stop messing with them!" Tony yelled through her earpiece, causing her to sigh. "Fine, fine." Grabbing her gun, she shot the man in his stomach, before standing up with the help of Steve's outstretched hand.
Feeling a breeze sweep by her, she watched as Steve was knocked off his feet before he fell on his ass. Holding her hand to her mouth, a laugh escaping through her fingertips earning a stern glare from Steve.
Quickly getting back to his feet -without the help of the giggling Emersyn- he spoke through his ear piece, "We have an enhanced on the field." Glancing down a few inches, he sighed, "Stop it, Syn."
"Steve just got knocked on his ass," Emersyn told the team, smirking as Steve's glare turned icy.
"Seriously?"
Natasha and Tony's giggles filtered through the comms earning a pink blush to form on America's Sweetheart's cheeks.
Annoyed by the young Stark, Steve gently smacked her shoulder - a silent act of telling her to shut up and get to work.
Her smile fell however, when she heard Natasha's voice come through once more. "Clint's hit! Somebody want to deal with that bunker?"
Hearing Hulks roar before a loud bang sounded, Emersyn figured it had been taken care of.
Confirming her suspicions, Natasha spoke again, "Thank you."
Glancing ahead, Emersyn and Steve noticed another round of guards running their way. While Steve grabbed his shield, Emersyn pulled out her gun and began shooting. Steve's shield knocked down half of the men while the rest received a bullet in the left shoulder.
"Stark, we really need to get inside," Steve spoke as he punched a man square in the nose, knocking him out instantaneously.
"I'm closing in," her father answered, voice full of concentration. After a beat of silence, he spoke again, "Jarvis? Am I closing in?"
"Oh, great. That sounds convincing," Emersyn muttered as she elbowed a man in the throat.
"If you have nothing nice to say, say nothing, kid. Didn't I teach you that?"
"No, you taught me that if I ever got an STD to leave you alone and go to Natasha."
Steve sent the girl a weird glance while she just shrugged it off.
"Never mind. Do you see a power source for that shield?"
"There is a particle wave below the north tower," the AI answered.
"Great. I wanna poke it with somethingโ Don't laugh, Emersyn."
Holding in her laugh, Emersyn rolled her eyes, "I wasn't going to laugh."
"You're laughing right now," Tony replied with a roll of his eyes before sending a pulse blast towards the tower before shooting a missile towards it. This time, it broke through the shield. "The drawbridge is down, people."
Emersyn glanced over at the super soldier, a smile prominent on her red lips, "Steve, speaking of things getting poked... What are you doing tonight?"
"I'm turning off comms!" Tony yelled, his tone full of disgust at his daughters previous words.
Steve blushed, bumping shoulders with the young Stark's.ย
Glancing around, Emersyn noticed Thor not too far away and began to run towards him, with Steve just behind her.
"The enhanced?" the god asked.
"He's a blur. All the new players we've faced, I've never seen this. In fact, I still haven't."
"I have," Emersyn spoke suddenly, lifting her hand. "It was in a comic, but basically the same thing."
"Are you seriously talking about Barry Allen right now?"
"What? He's hot."
Tony sighed loudly, "I don't want to hear you talking about who you think is hot, kid."
"Have you seen him? Grant Gustin is by far the hottest man on the planet."
Thor glanced down at her, "What about me, Lady Emersyn?"
Patting his shoulder, Emersyn smiled, "You're a close second, big guy."ย
"Clint's hit pretty bad, guys. We're gonna need evac," Natasha told them and Thor nodded as a tank grew closer to the trio. "I can get Barton to the jet. The sooner we're gone, the better. You two and Stark secure the scepter."
"Copy that," they answered in sync.
"Looks like they're lining up," Thor mused.
Emersyn's iron fists appeared, the palms of them lighting up, while Steve readied his shield and Thor spun his hammer.
"Well they're excited," Steve replied.
The young Stark smirked at her opening, "That's a common reaction when men see me."
The two men sent her a glance which made her smirk turn into a smile, "What? You gave me the perfect opportunity to use that."
"She's not wrong," Thor said, a smile on his face.
Holding his shield, Steve angled it before both Emersyn shot her pulse rays and Thor smacked his hammer against it, causing a force to knock back all of the agents within their radius, including the tank.
Moving to walk away, Thor looked at them, "Find the scepter."
"And for gosh sake, watch your language!" Tony spoke suddenly as Thor disappeared, earning an amused laugh from Emersyn.
Steve's head turned to the ground as a sigh left his lips. "That's not going away anytime soon."
Emersyn grinned as she patted his shoulder, "I would feel sorry for you but you did it to yourself. Oh, and I'm telling Bucky," as her words left her lips, she ran away from the super soldier.
"Emersyn! You are not telling Bucky!" Steve yelled as he ran after her.
"Hey, Steve?" Emersyn asked quietly as they walked through the stronghold. Holding his shield in front of his chest as he glanced down a hallway before walking through it, he looked back at her, "Yeah?"
"Do you ever wonder why people don't put cream cheese on toast? Like, why does it have to go on a bagel? They are basically the same thing, they are both bread but it feels wrong to put it on toast."
"I don't care, Syn."
"But you should. Why does it feel so wrong but taste so right?"
He sighed, turning his head away from her as they walked past a few doors which lead to empty rooms. "I don't know," he replied after a moment of silence.
"I'm gonna make you try it tonight." She gasped softly, "Maybe jam would be good on it tooโ" Emersyn cut herself off with a scream as a guard jumped on her back, knocking her to the ground.
Smacking her nose against the concrete floor, a crack sounded. "Mother fucker!" she yelled as she felt the bone break in two before she elbowed the man on her back in the throat. Twisting her body so she was on top of the man, she sat on his lap as her fists began to pound on his face.
"I," she punched his jaw, "was," another punch, "in the middle," yet another punch, "of a conversation," punch, "you dickless man!"
Standing up over the unconscious man, she glanced at Steve, "How rude was that? He could have at least waited till I was done talking."
Steve stared at her for a moment before nodding, "It was really disrespectful. You never interrupt a lady... Even if that lady is you."
She was about to argue, but she stopped herself, "You're right. Little mean, but right."
Taking a step toward her, his hand came up to her face, thumb trailing along her bruised skin earning a soft hiss from the Stark. "It's broken," he told her, his voice guilty as his eyes stared at her with a soft expression.
"I figured," she answered breathily.
She and Steve had never been this close before.
Her face tilted up slightly as his inched closer.
"You're bleeding," he told her, his thumb moving to swipe away the drop of blood between her eyebrows.
"Mhm."
"You're Tony's daughter."
"I don't care."
Their comms were off. No one could hear them.
"It's wrong," he tried to convince but his eyes failed him. He couldn't help himself from staring at her ruby red lips.
"I don't care," she muttered before grabbing the collar of his suit and pulling him towards her, breaking the space between them with a kiss.
The kiss was different from any other she had experienced. It wasn't fast or needy, instead, it felt safe; comforting in a way.
His lips were soft as they encased hers, sending warmth through her body in the form of butterflies and fireworks.
Pulling away, the need for air rising in the lungs, their eyes stayed closed as his hands moved to hold her waist. His forehead leaned against hers as she let go of his suit, moving her hands down to his chest.
"That was wrong," he muttered. "Why do I want to do it again?"
"I don't know," she answered honestly, opening her eyes to meet his. "Why do I want to do it again too?"
Choosing not to answer, he leaned down once more, connecting their lips again. It was as though he was drunk on her lips, on the softness of her touch.
He had never thought he could feel this way about her. She had always been his best friend, nothing more than that. So why did he long for her touch?
"You two should be careful doing that. Papa Stark will kill you both," a voice spoke up, causing them to quickly part.
Faces pink from the nerves of them being caught, they glanced to the source of the voice and saw Natasha standing there, leaning against the wall with a knowing smirk on her lips.
"I never expected this, I'll give you that. I always thought it'd be Bucky. This oddly makes sense though," the assassin continued, as she stalked towards them.
"Nat..." Steve trailed off, unsure of what to do in this situation.
"Was that your first kiss since 1945, Rogers?" Natasha asked, amused by his awkwardness.
Sighing, Emersyn stepped forward, meeting Natasha before she could continue taunting the blonde man. "Stop it, Nat. You don't have to make him nervous."
Chuckling softly, the red head nodded, "You just make it so easy, Rogers."
"You won't tell my dad, right?"
Shaking her head, Emersyn let out a breath of relief. "Thanks, Nat."
"You're lucky you're my favourite or I would be telling him right now. Next time maybe don't make out while we're on a mission though? It's probably not the best idea."
Steve coughed, still flustered from being caught. "Noted."
"We're all locked down out there," Natasha informed them and Steve nodded. "Alright. You should get back to Banner. Time for a lullaby. Syn, you should probably meet your dad, see if he needs any help."
Emersyn grinned as she patted his shoulder before turning to walk away, "See you later, soldier."
As she walked away, she could hear Natasha's giggle, "You're blushing, Rogers."
"I am not," she heard him reply.
