22. Loca Goes to Chicago.

______

"Welcome back to Chicago, Stefan," Klaus spoke as he parked their SUV in a warehouse.

The hybrid glanced behind him and saw Emersyn had fallen asleep on Stefan's shoulder. He sighed before grabbing a pack of gum from the center console and throwing it at them.

As the gum smacked Stefan in the face, resulting in the pair waking up, he rolled his eyes, "Wake up. We have things to do."

He grinned slightly when the pack of gum ricocheted off of Stefan and hit Emersyn in the face. The Stark glared at him, "Do that again and I will shove this so far up your assโ€“"

"Easy, love. We've got a long day ahead of us. Play nice."

Emersyn grunted as she got out of the car and stretched her legs, "You started it."

"Yes, well while you and Stefan were cuddling, I was busy working away trying to find out why this isn't working. You could have helped."

Emersyn's eyes lightened as her lips parted slightly, "You know, I just realized why I don't like you."

"And why is that?" he asked with a sigh.

"Because you're a fucking child. And a whiner."

He sent her the best glare he could muster, "I could kill you right now."

"Remember how that turned out last time? I came back so chances are, I'll come back again and then we'll be back at square one of me being pissed off at you."

"What are we doing here?" Stefan asked, cutting the pair off.

Klaus' eyes moved from Emersyn to see the ripper, "I know how much you loved it here." He opened a door revealing the cityscape that resembled Emersyn's home causing her feeling of homesickness to reappear. "Bringing back memories of the good old ripper days?"

Stefan held his hands on his hips, "Blacked out most of them. Lot of blood, lot of partying. The details are all a blur."

"Well that is a crying shame. The details are what makes it legend."

As Klaus delved into one of his story telling's, probably the hundredth Emersyn had heard that week, the Stark decided to move back to the car and sit in the passenger seat.

Pulling up the tower's security cameras, she found Natasha was the only one alone and decided it was time to call her.

As the phone rang quietly, Emersyn began to look through the car, starting with the console. As she rifled through Klaus' belongings, stealing every other thing that she thought could be cool she frowned when she saw a familiar knife sitting at the bottom.

"For a thousand year old guy, he really is an idiot," she said with a sigh as she wrapped the knife back up in cloth before putting it back just before Natasha picked up the phone.

"Emersyn Stark! I have been calling you for months!"

Emersyn flinched, not realizing her phone was connected to the car's speakers which meant both Stefan and Klaus were most definitely listening to her conversation now. Nosy bastards.

"Hey... Natasha."

"Don't you 'Hey, Natasha' me. Where the hell have you beenโ€“ Don't quote twilight, I know you are doing it right now. Emersyn, stop it."

"Where the hell have you been, loca..." Emersyn whispered quietly but Natasha heard it.

"If you weren't kidnapped, I would shoot you."

"It is a beautiful piece of art, Natasha. You just don't understand it like I do."

"You just think Edward is hot."

"More like Bella," Emersyn muttered.

"You're trying to distract me."

"Me?" Emersyn blew a raspberry, "Never."

"Where are you?"

"On Earth... Where are you?"

"For fucks sake. You are so much like your father."

"You say that like it's a bad thing. I happen to think my dad is pretty cool."

"Well he's not. Moving on, you need to put on your tracker so we can come get you. Clint hasn't left the vents in weeks and Thor keeps crying in corners while eating poptarts. It's weird. And, to top it all off, Barnes and you dad are buddies now."

"Really?"

"Yes. We need you to come back to bring some order back to this shit hole."

Emersyn's eyes met Klaus' dark ones.

"Um... You see, the thing is..." Emersyn paused, still feeling his glare on her. She opened the door, holding her hand over the speaker so Natasha couldn't hear her,
Can you stop fucking looking at me like that!? It's creepy as shit!"

He sped toward her so that he was between her legs, their chests almost pressing against her. The fast movement knocked the air out of her lungs in surprise.

"Remember that if you tell her where you are, I will kill you. And I will make sure you don't come back alive."

Emersyn nodded shakily.

"Good," he smiled, enjoying her fear as he reached over and grabbed her phone before holding it up, "Now finish the call."

"I gotta go, Nat."

"Wait, Synโ€“!"

It was too late. Klaus had already hung up.

Emersyn glared at him, "You're such a dick. I wasn't going to tell her."

His hands came up to hold her shoulders, stopping her from leaving. She stared at him expectantly as she waited for him to speak.

"I'm..." he paused, unable to find the words. "I'm so... Never mindโ€“ Come, we have things to do."

Klaus left quickly, leaving Emersyn more confused than when she was figuring out whether she was a lesbian or bisexual.

Ignoring her thoughts, she got out of the car and began to trail behind him. "You have really bad mood swings," she told him, earning another glare.

"What? It's true. It's like you're on your period but instead of once a month, it's four times a day."

Klaus held the bar's door open, letting Emersyn walk inside first before he closed it in Stefan's face. Emersyn grinned, holding in a laugh as she saw the vampire's angry face.

"Looks familiar, doesn't it?" Klaus asked, smiling.

Stefan looked around the bar, "I can't believe this place is still here."

Their heads turned when they heard footsteps before a woman appeared. "You gotta be kidding me," she spoke.

"So a hybrid walks into a bar, says to the bartenderโ€“" Klaus' bad joke was cut off by the woman rolling her eyes, "Stop. You may be invincible, but that doesn't make you funny."

Emersyn grinned as she patted Klaus' shoulder, "You just got owned."

He smacked her hand away making her smile wider. She liked that she could get under his skin so easily.

"I remember you," the woman said, her eyes moving to Stefan.

"Yeah. You're Gloria."

"Mm-hmm."

"Shouldn't you be..." Stefan trailed off, not wanting to offend the woman with his next words. However, it seemed that the woman knew exactly what he was going to say.

"Old and dead?" she asked, continuing his question. "Now if I die, who's going to run this place, huh?"

Klaus looked between Emersyn and Stefan, "Gloria's a very powerful witch."

"I can slow the aging down some. Herbs and spells. But don't worry, it'll catch up to me one day."

Klaus looked back at the two, "Stefan, love, why don't you go and fix us up a little something from behind the bar?"

"Yeah, sure thing," Stefan replied before Emersyn could argue and pulled her along with him.

"I am not making him a drink," Emersyn told him, crossing her arms as she leaned against the bar.

"You don't have to. I will. I just didn't want the two of you to kill each other while I was gone."

Emersyn sighed as she glanced around the bar, looking for anything good only to find herself empty handed. "I don't like it here," she told Stefan.

"Neither do I," Stefan muttered. His eyes moved to look at her, "You're doing okay, though?"

The Stark shrugged, "I'm fine."

"Said every woman who wasn't fine," Stefan told her, smiling slightly. His smile fell however when he noticed something behind her.

"What the hell?..." he whispered as he reached behind her and grabbed a photo off the wall. Taking Emersyn's hand, he led her back to where Klaus was.

"What is this?" Stefan asked, holding up the picture.

Klaus grinned, "Well, I told you, Stefan. Chicago's a magical place."

Stefan looked at him confused, "But this is me... With you."

Emersyn looked to her right and saw Kol Mikaelson standing there with a grin, "Duh, duh, duhhhh," he said dramatically before he disappeared.

She pursed her lips, trying to hold in her laugh but failed miserably. "Sorry, I'm sorry."

Klaus looked at her strangely, "What was that? Don't tell me you're going insane."

She grinned, "Out of all the Mikaelson's I've met so far... I gotta say you're the boring one."

"I'm touched," he responded, "And out of all the people I have met, you are the most annoying one."

"You flatter me."

"Can you two stop flirting for one minute?" Stefan asked, causing both Klaus and Emersyn to look at each other, "What? We aren't flirting."

Gloria chuckled, "Could've fooled me. The two of you bicker like a married couple."

"Married? To him? That's disgusting."

"It would be the best thing that ever happened to you if you married me," Klaus defended.

"Like fuck! Have you met yourself? I would poison myself if it meant being married to your paranoid ass."

"Oh, like you're all that special!"

"I am, actually. Unlike you!"

"I'm the only one of my kind which automatically makes me special."

"Yes, and I have the blood of the gods running through my veins. You're not special. You're just average. Unlike your dick, which is below average."

"How would you know?-"

"Can you two stop?"

"No!" they both yelled, causing Stefan to hold up his hands before moving over to sit down next to Gloria. "They'll calm down in an hour. Once you get them riled up it's better to let them work it out themselves," he explained, earning a nod from the witch who watched in amusement as Emersyn slapped Klaus.

The hybrid glared at her, "Did you just hit me?"

"I bitch slapped you, you fucking cocksucker!"

Klaus stared at her for a moment, still holding her wrist, "What did you just call me?"

"Would you prefer little bitch?"

He sighed before letting go of her wrist, "Say another word and you are going in time out. We have things to do and I do not have time for this."

"You're not my dad."

Klaus smirked, "I could be your daddy."

Emersyn's face fell into a look of disgust. "I'm leaving."

Klaus motioned for Stefan to follow as he ran after Emersyn's retreating body. "Oh, come on, love. Everyone in this bloody world has daddy issues. Are you really saying you don't?"

"Yes! I fucking love my dad."

"That's strange."

"Why? Cause your dad fucking hates you?"

"Yes, actually."

Emersyn paused in her steps, "Oh... I'm sorry?"

"You should be."

Now back at the warehouse, Emersyn sat comfortably on a couch, her legs resting on Stefan's lap.

"This doesn't make any sense," Stefan spoke up. "Why don't I remember you?"

Klaus looked at the pair, "You said it yourself, that time had a lot of dark holes."

"No, if you knew me, then why haven't you said anything?"

The hybrid moved over to a set of coffins, "I'm a little busy right now. Memory Lane will have to wait."

Stefan sped over to him, grabbing his wrist, "What the hell is going on? Answer me."

"Let's just say we didn't get off to a brilliant start. To be honest, I hated you."

As Klaus delved into yet another one of his dramatic story times Emersyn faked being asleep on the couch. When the hybrid finished, he looked at the girl, "I know you're not asleep, love."

She didn't answer.

Rolling his eyes, he moved over to her and poked her shoulder causing her to open her eyes. '"Oh, I'm sorry. You must have put me to sleep with how fucking boring you are."

"Wait a minute. So I knew another Original vampire?" Stefan asked, referring to the memories Klaus had shared moments before.

"You're not special. I know three of them. And each one is more annoying than the last. It's like the Kardashians, except they aren't hot, they're just annoying."

Klaus moved back over to the coffins, "If you can't handle it, then don't ask."

Emersyn adjusted herself so she was more comfortable, "He has a point."

"Thank you, love."

As he opened the coffin revealing a dead blonde woman, Emersyn flinched, "That's creepy."

As Klaus smiled at the dead body and gently touched her face, Emersyn's eyes widened, "This is creepier than Chucky."

The hybrid looked back at her, "Cool it on the commentary."

"Well I would if you weren't so fucking creepy. Who the hell in their right mind keeps dead bodies around?"

"A completely normal person?"

She stared at him, "I'm not even going to answer that. Go back to your creepy hobby."

Stefan looked inside the coffin, "I don't recognize her."

"Rebekah's temper is worse than mine," he told them as he pulled the dagger out of her chest. "Time to wake up, little sister."

After five minutes of waiting, Klaus had moved to sit next to Emersyn who insisted on laying her legs on his lap after saying they were cramped from the long car ride.

As his hands gently ran across her jean-covered leg, soothing her pain, he leaned his head back, "Any day now, Rebekah..." His eyes moved to Emersyn, "She's being dramatic."

Emersyn rolled her eyes but stayed silent. Instead, it was Stefan who spoke up, "Look, why don't you just tell me what the hell is going on? I mean, you obviously want me here for a reason, right? Same with Emersyn, why are you keeping her around when she obviously hates you?"

"Well, you have many useful talents."

"Do I?"

"In fact, I learned some of my favorite tricks from you."

"Hmm. And Emersyn?"

Klaus' eyes moved to the Stark as a smile took over his lips, "I like her temper. After a thousand years of people being afraid of you, it's refreshing to have someone around like her."

"So if I start kissing your ass you'll let me leave?"

He patted her thigh, "Not a chance."

She shrugged, "Worth a shot."

Before long, Klaus delved into a story of how Stefan made a man drink his wife's blood, the story making Emersyn want to vomit in disgust but she held it in for Stefan's sake.

"I was your number one fan," Klaus told Stefan as he stood up, offering his hand to Emersyn though she slapped it away and got up herself. Grinning, he led them out of the warehouse.

"Why should I believe any of this?" Stefan asked but Klaus ignored him as he spoke to a security guard. "When she wakes up, tell her to meet us at Gloria's bar. Then volunteer your carotid artery and let her feed until you die."

Emersyn sighed at his words.

"Where are you going?" Stefan asked again.

"You think I'm lying, Stefan. You and I knew each other. You trusted me with one of your secrets and now I'm going to prove it to you."

"How?"

"We're going to your old apartment."

As they entered Stefan's old apartment, Emersyn's phone rang, AC/DC blasting out of the speakers.

Klaus glanced at the screen, seeing her father's name at the top of it. His eyes moved to hers as he nodded. "Stay near me. Don't want you revealing where we are."

The Stark rolled her eyes but complied nonetheless as she answered the call, "Hey, Dad."

"Syn. Good, you're okay. We need you in New York. Now."

Emersyn's eyes met Klaus', "What do you mean?"

"The team's split. Cap is starting a war."

"What do you mean Steve is starting a war? Didn't he have enough fun back in the forties?"

"Yes, well he hates agreeing with me."

"What's it even over? Did you eat the last donut again? If so that is not a reason to start a waโ€“"

"It's Ross."

Emersyn groaned, "That guy is such a buzzkill."

"There was a problem on his mission in Lagosโ€“"

"Yeah, I saw that. How's Wanda doing?"

"Not well. I have her here. She's been in her room most days. They were going after Rumlow."

"Is he dead?"

"Yes."

"Good."

Klaus frowned, he had never thought she would say such a thing. Usually, Emersyn was against murder.

"Why is Ross getting into this?"

"The Sokovia Accords. It states that the Avengers shall no longer be a private organization. Instead, they'll operate under the supervision of a United Nations panel, only when and if that panel deems it necessary."

Emersyn nodded, "And you agreed to it and Steve didn't."

"You always were the smartest."

"Dad, don't start complimenting me. You know I'm on your side no matter what."

She heard Tony sigh, "I know, kiddo... It's justโ€“ I thought we were all beginning to get along. Even Robocop and I were getting to be friends."

Emersyn's eyes met Klaus' again and he nodded at the door, silently saying it was okay for her to step out. Emersyn sent him a somewhat shaky smile as she left the apartment and stood in the hallway.

"Who are we fighting?"

He stayed silent.

"You can tell me. I can take it."

"Alright... Sam, Clint..." That one hurt. "Rogers," he trailed off.

"And Bucky?" Emersyn asked, finishing his words.

"Yeah. And Barnes."

The younger Stark nodded, blinking fast, "Okay. luckily we already know how they fight so if we can plan a good defenseโ€“"

"No. You're not fighting."

"What do you mean I'm not fighting? Of course I am."

"No. I need you to stay at the tower where I know you are safe."

Klaus and Stefan suddenly walked out of the apartment, causing Emersyn to look up. Both vampire's noticed her slightly teary eyes but neither chose to speak on it.

"I'm not letting you do this alone," Emersyn told her dad, ignoring the two vampire's who began to walk out of the building, Klaus signaling for her to follow.

Trailing far enough behind, she tried her best to stay out of earshot of the two vampire's but she knew Klaus was listening.

"I'm not. I have Natasha, Rhodes and Vision."

"That's not enough."

"It has to be. Where are you? I'm sending Happy to come pick you up."

"You know I can't tell you," Emersyn told him.

Klaus stopped in his steps, causing her to bump into him. His hand came up to her phone, taking it so that he was holding it against her ear as he sent her a look..

"I don't give a shit, Emersyn. You need to tell me where you are right nowโ€“"

Klaus hung up the phone causing Emersyn to scoff as he placed the device in his front pocket. "Are you serious? I'm gonna be in so much shit now. I'm already grounded."

"For how long?" he asked, amused by how annoyed she was.

"For till college! Which is stupid because I've already been to college."

"You have?"

"Of course I have."

Stefan looked at the pair, "She went to MIT. How did you not know that?"

Klaus shrugged, only then noticing the MIT sweatshirt she was wearing. "Oh..."

Emersyn shook her head, laughing softly at the embarrassed hybrid. Patting his shoulder, she walked forward, "So... Did you two ever sleep with each other back then?"

Both men blushed as they stared at her with strange looks.

"What? You two have so much sexual tension. It's suffocating."

"Maybe that's your ego, love."

Emersyn pursed her lips, "That could be a possibility."

After Klaus' dramatic reveal of how he had compelled Stefan to forget both him and Rebekah, Emersyn took a sip of her drink that Gloria had graciously offered her.

Squirming in her seat, she tried to make herself comfortable as she leaned her elbows on the bar and looked over at the two vampires.

"Finally. I was wondering when this story was gonna get interesting."

While Klaus grinned at her, Stefan scoffed, "You compelled me to forget."

Klaus' eyes turned down to the bar, "It was time for Rebekah and I to move on. Better to have a clean slate."

"But why? You shouldn't have to cover your tracks..." Stefan paused, "Unless you're running from someone."

Klaus stood suddenly, pulling Emersyn up with him, "Storytime Is over. I need another drink. A real one."

Emersyn looked at his grip on her arm, "Well I am not your goddamn drink so let me the fuck go."

He grinned as he led her over to a booth, moving his arm so that it was resting on her shoulders, "Come on, love. I'd like to have a taste of that godly blood you have."

She elbowed his side, the act doing nothing to take the smirk off his face, "Not a chance in hell."

Emersyn glanced over and saw Stefan had disappeared which meant she would have to distract the hybrid once again from noticing.

"Have you been working on the things I've taught you?" she asked, glancing at his hair seeing it hadn't grown much in the last week. "Your hair still looks terrible but your personality is somewhat better... at times."

He gave her an offended look, "What do you mean? My personality is perfect."

"You threatened me nine hours ago."

"That's just part of my charm. You'll fall under my spell one way or another."

Emersyn rolled her eyes, "Sure. It that helps you sleep at night."

"You know what would really help me sleep at night?"

"What?"

"You, in bed... with me?"

The Stark bit her cheek, "You make me want to vomit."

"You make me want to cum."

Emersyn laughed at his words, "That one was actually funny."

Klaus grinned at her, "I've been working on that one for a while. I just needed you to give me an opening."

They were silent for a moment before Klaus spoke again, "Are you lonely?"

She frowned, "Am I what?"

"Lonely... Homesick? You just seem unhappy."

"Like I would tell you."

"Then pretend I'm someone else."

She scanned his face, trying to see if he was being serious or not, but after a thousand years, you earn a pretty damn good poker face.

"I'm fine, Klaus. Really. Just a little stressed."

"Tell me what you're stressed about. It'll help."

Before Emersyn could, someone walked up to their table and sat across from them. Emersyn sighed, it was Damon. How stupid could someone be?

"Last call. Drink 'em up," Gloria spoke loudly to the drunken people in the bar.

Klaus smiled, "I see they've opened the doors to the riff raff now."

"Oh, honey, I've been called worse."

"You don't give up, do you?" the hybrid asked, playing with a mini drink umbrella that he had taken from Emersyn's drink.

"Give me my brother back... You'll never have to see me again."

"Well, I am torn. You see, I promised Stefan I wouldn't let you die, but how many freebies did I really sign up for? And clearly you want to die, otherwise you wouldn't be here, so..."

With the way Klaus' smile never left his face, Emersyn knew he was up to something.

"What can I say? I'm a thrill seeker."

Klaus suddenly sped toward the vampire and grabbed him by his neck as he stabbed the umbrella into his chest, "Oh, dear, what was that? I'm a little boozy, so you'll forgive me if I miss your heart the first few tries."

"Klaus..." Emersyn spoke, but her voice faded knowing she couldn't do anything to stop the hybrid.

The hybrid heard her, however, and sent her a smile, "Relax, my love." He stabbed the wooden stick deeper into Damon's chest, "No, that's not it. Hmm," Damon groaned loudly, "Ohh. Almost..."

Damon grunted, "You want a partner in crime? Forget Stefan and Emersyn. I'm so much more fun."

"You won't be any fun after you're dead."

Before Klaus could puncture Damon's heart, Gloria ran into the bar and used her magic to throw the two men apart.

"Really?" Klaus said with a groan as he stood up from the floor. If Klaus hadn't been trying to kill her friend's brother, she would have been amused by his childlike manner.

"Not in my bar. You take it outside."

Damon attempted to stand only to be pushed back down by Klaus' boot, "You don't have to negotiate your brother's freedom." His boot pushed into Damon's chest, "When I'm done with him, he won't want to go back."

He held out his hand in Emersyn's direction, "Love. We'll be going now."

Emersyn pushed past him and walked out of the bar, bumping her shoulder against his harshly.

Sighing, he followed after her. Walking quickly down the empty street, he reached her, "Love, come on. Talk to me."

The Stark didn't react, instead, she kept walking.

"You don't know where you are going."

"I can figure it out."

"Yes, I'm sure you can. But when is it that you will figure out you are going the wrong way?"

Emersyn spun on her heel, ready to turn the other way, only to bump into a hard wall. That wall being Klaus' chest.

She gasped softly as she felt his hands move to hold her waist, stopping her from falling.

"Careful, Emersyn. I can't have you falling for me yet. We've only known each other for two months now."

"Has it only been two months? I had thought it had been twenty years," Emersyn told him, squirming as she tried to get out of his hold. Klaus' hold, however, stayed strong yet delicate as his thumbs traced patterns on her covered waist.

"Dramatic as ever," he replied with a grin as he stared down at her. "Tell me what's wrong?"

"What's wrong? Klaus, everything is wrong! You killed me. You kidnapped me. My family is being torn in two and I have to pick which side I want to help but I can't even see them because of you! You are my problem, Klaus."

His eyes stayed calm, not a look of anger flickering through them as he looked at her.

Her eyes welled with angry tears, months of pent up anger flowing through her as though he had opened the floodgates.

"Please let me go," she begged.

It was the first time he had heard her voice so weak, fragile as the words cracked while she tried to hold in a sob.

His eyes flickered with a look of hurt as her words sounded in his ears. His hands abruptly left her waist as he took a step away from her.

"No. I will be waiting for you at the warehouse. If you are not there within the hour, I will kill all of those who you love. Starting with Stefan."ย
